Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

The Cub Comes from Planet Meow 39

Chapter 39: Meow

When Jing Mimi woke up, Papa was sitting in front of the computer working. The membrane keyboard didn’t make much noise when tapped, just muffled clicks.

He was wrapped in a small blanket, just like the burrito game he used to play with his papas.

Jing Mimi blinked his eyes, realizing there was a gap in his memory.

One second he was sitting at the table, happily scooping fermented rice wine with a spoon, and the next second he suddenly teleported to the bed, wrapped in a small blanket.

…What happened?!

The kitten was terrified.

Jing Mimi tried to move his body, but in the burrito game, the wrapped kitten couldn’t move, and neither could he now.

“Papa.” Jing Mimi had to ask Papa for help.

Hearing the little cub’s sober voice, Jing Zhi, who was looking at the computer screen, turned around immediately and finally met a pair of clear eyes.

It was “Papa,” not “Meow meow.”

Jing Zhi took off his headphones and breathed a huge sigh of relief.

The cub finally sobered up.

The doctor in the welfare institute briefly checked the little guy wrapped in the small blanket and said there was nothing serious, no alcohol allergy symptoms or other adverse reactions. If nothing unexpected happened, a sleep would fix it; such rice wine wouldn’t have much impact on his body.

Halfway through, Jing Zhi untied the small blanket wrapped around him, thinking he would sleep more comfortably, but he slept very restlessly, rolling around on the bed and almost falling off. Jing Zhi had no choice but to wrap him up loosely again.

Like a swaddle, children naturally couldn’t refuse sleeping in such an environment; it was very comfortable and safe.

Xu Sumei stayed by the bed for a while, wiping the little guy’s face with a towel soaked in hot water while he slept. Later, as it was getting late and winter days get dark quickly, she left first.

Before leaving, Jing Zhi picked a fresh plum blossom branch for her.

He also put the broken plum branch on the ground back under the plum tree. When the snow melted next spring, it would turn into spring mud and nutrients, blooming full plum branches again in the winter of the new year.

After arriving home, Xu Sumei sent Jing Zhi a photo of the plum branch in a vase.

The background was the living room at home, where a bit of his stuff could still be seen.

Jing Zhi sat in the room mixed with the scent of fermented rice wine and plum blossoms, working while waiting for the drunken little cub to wake up.

Putting the headphones on the table, Jing Zhi walked straight to the bedside and unwrapped the blanket around the little cub.

Jing Mimi twisted on the bed, moved his body, and stretched comfortably.

Jing Zhi smiled and asked him, “Do you remember what happened after secretly eating the fermented rice wine?”

Jing Mimi paused mid-stretch.

The word “secretly eating” was very subtle.

He did eat it secretly, but there was a lot of fermented rice wine, and the rest was enough for Papa. He didn’t selfishly eat it all, so it shouldn’t be unforgivable…

But the point should be the second half of the sentence.

After eating, he appeared on the bed wrapped like a little burrito.

He just realized the sky outside had darkened, obviously half a day had passed.

He clearly remembered the sky was still bright before.

What happened?

It was… it was the fermented rice wine!

He heard that there were many things kittens couldn’t eat. Eating them would make them sick, shorten their lifespan, and eating too much could even kill them.

Jing Mimi’s small face turned pale instantly.

His lifespan was shortened by half a day!!

The more Jing Mimi thought about it, the more scared he became, his little heart pounding.

He had just come back from the dead; he didn’t want to die again, nor did he want his lifespan shortened, separating from Papa too early.

Afraid this silly child would overthink, Jing Zhi picked him up directly from the bed and patiently explained to him what alcohol was, why eating too much fermented rice wine would make him drunk, and—if his body didn’t feel uncomfortable now, it was fine, but he couldn’t eat so much fermented rice wine at once in the future.

Jing Mimi’s wildly beating heart finally calmed down a bit, and he breathed a huge sigh of relief.

So his lifespan wasn’t shortened by half a day; he just got drunk and slept for half a day.

Jing Mimi hugged Papa tightly like a survivor of a disaster.

Because of the fright from the fermented rice wine incident, Jing Mimi became more disciplined and never got greedy again. He also strictly required himself to follow rules in other areas.

That night, Jing Mimi wore the kitten hat with Jing Zhi and video called Jiang Suifeng.

—Mimi requested it, and Jing Zhi couldn’t refuse, not wanting to be a killjoy parent.

Although he felt this cute style hat didn’t quite match his style, Jiang Suifeng treasured it very much. After praising Mimi, it was his turn.

“Little Jing, very cute and suits you very well.”

Because he was in the ward with Grandpa Jiang, he only said a short sentence, daring not to say too much, but Jing Zhi still saw a lot of emotions in his eyes through the screen.

Where does it suit me…

Jing Zhi really wanted to retort, but after thinking about it, he let it go.

Grandpa Jiang was there; some words were inappropriate to say.

Besides, this wasn’t the first time Jiang Suifeng called him cute.

He knew long ago that Jiang Suifeng had some special little fetishes, like… coaxing him to wear some sexy costumes, the kind with furry cat ears and a tail.

It was prepared in advance for Jiang Suifeng’s birthday one year. He said he prepared a gift for himself. Jing Zhi wondered what it was, only to find out it was packaging him as the gift.

That outfit was still stuffed in the wardrobe at home.

The two adults and one child chatted about random things. Jing Mimi kept talking about Grandma, praising Grandma’s singing, praising Grandma’s fermented rice wine, praising the scent of plum blossoms on Grandma, but didn’t mention the dummy grandpa again.

After the video call ended, Jiang Suifeng satisfactorily admired the screenshots of Jing Zhi and Mimi in his album.

In the photos, two heads wearing kitten ear hats were touching, smiling at the camera with varying degrees of intensity.

Too cute.

As expected of his wife and his cub.

In stark contrast to the exceptionally good mood of Jiang Suifeng, Grandpa Jiang was silently emo lying on the hospital bed.

Mimi didn’t mention the dummy grandpa even once in tonight’s video call.

His heart was extremely unbalanced.

Did Mimi already forget him?

Because he ate too much fermented rice wine in the afternoon and slept too long, Jing Mimi had some insomnia tonight.

Jing Zhi noticed this and let him play with his phone for a while; lying dryly on the bed was also torturous.

Because of the British cat incident last time, Jing Mimi refused to play Happy Match anymore because there was English in it, and he didn’t want to hear English. The new game was the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies, which was also very interesting.

Jing Mimi was brave. Although young, he wasn’t afraid of the zombies inside.

He couldn’t read, but Jing Zhi introduced the functions of various plants to him. He remembered them clearly and had passed many levels with his assistance.

Listening to the sounds of zombies attacking, Jing Zhi couldn’t help but think of a new horror game about to be released that Fang Xiaorui, the University A junior and fan who came to volunteer at the welfare institute, told him about before leaving.

That horror game was zombie-themed and quite well-made. The game developer had invited him to test play it. There were some small bugs, but they were all fixed later.

The release date was January 11th. Recently, work was temporarily put on hold because of Mimi’s matter, but he didn’t miss this news.

At that time, regardless of the progress of Mimi’s adoption procedures, he had to go back to stream.

Before leaving, Fang Xiaorui looked forward to it, saying: “Little Jing, just waiting for your launch stream. Among all horror game streamers, watching your stream gives me the most sense of security.”

No other reason, Jing Zhi’s voice was on the cold side. Even if jumpscared by a ghost in a horror game, he wouldn’t panic, calm like an android, giving a strong sense of security.

He always felt this would reduce some entertainment effect, so he liked to find some timid streamer friends to collaborate with. He was responsible for carrying the game, and the streamer friends were responsible for screaming and creating atmosphere.

Actually, the person he wanted to collaborate with most was Jiang Suifeng.

Don’t look at Jiang Suifeng appearing steady usually; he was actually very timid in some aspects. Every time he watched Jing Zhi’s horror game stream, he would hug him tightly in fear at night and needed company to go to the toilet.

Once, accompanying him to the toilet in the middle of the night, the kitten Mimi heard the movement and approached, rubbing against Jiang Suifeng’s leg. The soft touch scared him into pouncing on Jing Zhi directly. Jing Zhi wasn’t paying attention, and both fell to the ground.

The kitten Mimi was also startled. Fortunately, the kitten reacted quickly and wasn’t crushed by his two papas.

However, Jiang Suifeng wasn’t in the circle after all, and he was his boyfriend, a sensitive identity. He didn’t want to sell BL content online for traffic, so he never pulled Jiang Suifeng to stream together, afraid of exposing the secret.

A few times during streams, fans discovered there were other people in the room. He just said lightly it was a roommate sharing the rent, and no one suspected anything.

He separated reality and the internet very clearly, not wanting them to affect each other.

Children lack sleep. After playing Plants vs. Zombies in Papa’s arms for a while, Jing Mimi got sleepy again. Turning off the phone, he nestled in Papa’s arms and asked him, “Papa, are there really zombies in the world?”

Jing Zhi couldn’t help laughing and asked back, “If there really were, would Mimi be afraid?”

Jing Mimi shook his head, his voice firm: “Not afraid, Mimi will protect Papa.”

Jing Zhi felt a burst of pride in his heart—the cub took after him, brave.

Thinking of someone surnamed Jiang, Jing Zhi had a mischievous thought and said, “Papa isn’t afraid either, but Big Papa is very timid. If we meet zombies, Mimi must protect Big Papa well and not let zombies get close to Big Papa.”

Jing Mimi: “Okay!”

“Sleep, you can see Big Papa tomorrow.”

Tomorrow was Jiang Suifeng’s 30th birthday.

Jing Zhi had already pre-ordered a birthday cake. When Jiang Suifeng got off work tomorrow, the family of three could celebrate his birthday together.

The next day, when Jing Zhi went to the shop to pick up the cake, Jing Mimi was sunbathing in the big yard.

The snow in the yard had melted and disappeared. Not naturally melted, but specially cleaned by people in the welfare institute for fear of children slipping on the snow. Only some corners where snow was swept and piled up hadn’t completely melted, but it was impossible to write or draw on it anymore.

He didn’t know when the next snow would be.

The kitten mold Big Papa customized for him hadn’t been made yet.

Hope the next snow arrives when it’s done.

The sun after the snow was very comfortable. Jing Mimi practiced the Happy Birthday song while waiting for his papas to return.

Suddenly, a fully armed figure approached him, limping.

Jing Mimi was stunned.

He recognized him; it was the dummy grandpa.

But why did the dummy grandpa walk like a zombie?

After Jing Mimi died, it went to Planet Meow.

The God of Planet Meow said to it: Mimi, welcome to the Cat Paradise. All the cats here will be your new family.

Mimi let out a "meow" and burst into tears: I want Papa.

The soft-hearted Cat God eventually sent this crybaby kitten back to its fathers' side.

In exchange, Mimi had to assist the Cat God in fulfilling the wishes of the kittens on Planet Meow.

For example, placing a kitten's favorite foxtail grass at their owner's doorstep; rubbing a little hand cream on the hand of a human scratched by a kitten; or giving a gentle kiss to the owner's newborn baby...

**

On the day the cat they had raised together for many years passed away, after yet another argument, Jing Zhi broke down and asked to break up.

Not long after, Jing Zhi found a sleeping little cub at his doorstep.

The little cub didn't cry or fuss; he just loved to burrow into his arms.

Soon, he learned his very first sound: "Meow."

**

After a cooling-off period following the breakup, Jiang Suifeng finally returned from his business trip. The first thing he did was buy a bouquet of Jing Zhi's favorite Chinese roses to apologize and seek reconciliation.

Unexpectedly, from a distance, he saw his boyfriend holding a little cub in his arms. The cub was calling out "Papa" with every breath, and his appearance actually bore a resemblance to his boyfriend.

Jiang Suifeng felt like he had been struck by a bolt from the blue. His brain crashed, unable to think. The flowers in his hand fell to the ground as he strode swiftly up to Jing Zhi, his eyes red, demanding an explanation.

The little cub blinked his eyes, suddenly giggled at him, and called out "Papa" again.

Jing Zhi looked at him as well. "Don't you think he looks a bit like you, too?"
