Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

The Emperor Reads Storybooks Hidden in His Official Reports 52

Chapter 52: Reunion

Flames soared into the sky, and the originally silent night sky was now dazzling.

This sub-camp was now in a sea of fire. The fire was not too big, and as long as one did not go into the tents, it was fine. Now that the entire army was in motion, neither Yi Miaosuan nor Li Jianyu was afraid of the fire. The two of them came to a tent not far away and saw a carriage parked at the side.

Was Feng Juhua inside?

Li Jianyu frowned slightly.

Lifting the curtain, Li Jianyu finally saw the Emperor of the Great Xi.

“Mmm…”

The white-robed man with delicate features was curled up in the carriage. He opened his eyes slightly.

Looking around, the man realized where he was and became a little panicked, staring blankly at Li Jianyu.

Li Jianyu turned to look at Yi Miaosuan and asked with a frown, “What’s wrong with the Emperor?”

“The Emperor did not dare to leave the main tent. I knocked him out and brought him here with a secret art.”

Alright then…

Li Jianyu shook his head and went forward, wanting to take Feng Juhua’s hand.

“Your Majesty, let’s escape with me while it’s chaotic!”

On the way here, Li Jianyu had accidentally overheard the conversation of the Great Xi’s soldiers and had vaguely learned that the invaders were from the Great Gong.

Someone had come to save them!

Li Jianyu couldn’t be completely sure, but now was a good chance to escape!

“No…”

Feng Juhua’s lifeless eyes blinked. He avoided Li Jianyu’s outstretched hand, shrank back, and muttered, “I was wrong, I didn’t run away… I didn’t run away.”

Li Jianyu’s eyes widened.

“Feng Juhua! Come out quickly! I’ll take you to see Xu Zheng!”

Feng Juhua tilted his head slightly, as if he were trying hard to understand what Li Jianyu was saying.

“Don’t you want to see him?”

Li Jianyu looked around. Yi Miaosuan had already left after completing his mission. He couldn’t drag this on any longer.

Feng Juhua was now weak, and Li Jianyu had been learning martial arts from Zhao Linxu all this time, so it was not a problem to subdue him.

Clang…!

Li Jianyu directly pulled Feng Juhua down, and the two of them mounted a horse. He whipped the horse, and it charged wildly out of the camp.

The sound of the horn was long and melodious. The soldiers from the other sub-camps were rushing here.

I can do it!

Li Jianyu squinted, held Feng Juhua, and spurred the horse under him to go faster, faster.

Bang—

A blue firework exploded, its captivating light trying to compete with the firelight.

Li Jianyu was stunned.

This was… this was the signal Zhao Linxu had given him!

Zhao Linxu was here?!

Li Jianyu’s heart had been beating fast due to nervousness, but now he felt as if his heart was about to burst, pushed out by a surge of emotions he couldn’t explain.

Li Jianyu squinted slightly and tightened his grip on the reins.

He had to go to Zhao Linxu!

“Hee—”

At a turn, Li Jianyu had originally wanted to charge past but barely managed to stop his horse.

The horse was so startled that it bucked, almost throwing Li Jianyu and Feng Juhua off.

The reason for the sudden stop was that a small army had suddenly appeared in front of them, surrounding them. The one leading the army was none other than Rong Qing.

Rong Qing cupped his fists to Feng Juhua, his expression blank. “I have come on His Highness’s orders to capture the person who created the rebellion and to escort His Majesty safely back to the camp.”

Li Jianyu bit his lower lip.

Don’t panic.

Bang—!

Another firework exploded, dazzling and brilliant.

Zhao Linxu was coming.

But now that Rong Qing was here, it meant that the reinforcements from the other camps had also arrived. How could Zhao Linxu fight against the entire camp by himself!

“Imperial Brother, so you’re here? I’ve been looking so hard for you.”

Hearing this suddenly familiar voice, a bitter smile appeared on Feng Juhua’s lips.

There was no escape.

There was no escape at all. As Feng Juheng had said to him, wouldn’t it have been better if he hadn’t struggled from the beginning? It couldn’t change any outcome.

Feng Juheng also rode over and smiled. “Why is it so lively tonight? Imperial Brother, come here.”

Feng Juhua lowered his head and prepared to dismount.

Li Jianyu grabbed Feng Juhua’s arm and said in a low voice, “You are the Emperor of the Great Xi! Not his livestock!”

Feng Juhua wanted to break free from Li Jianyu’s grip.

“Feng Juhua!” Li Jianyu’s voice rose a few degrees. “Whether you are willing to be this emperor or not, you already are. You have to be responsible for the people, and even more so for yourself. If you lose your dignity, what do you have left?”

“Don’t go! At worst, we’ll charge out together and die! It’s better to die than to stay by his side.”

Li Jianyu’s eyes were burning.

How would he know if he didn’t try?

“City Lord…”

Feng Juhua pushed Li Jianyu away, kicked the horse’s flank hard, and he himself leaped off the horse.

“Thank you.”

The horse charged out, and Li Jianyu stared with wide eyes at Feng Juhua, who was still standing there.

“After him!”

Just as Rong Qing was about to have someone stop Li Jianyu, he saw Feng Juhua holding the dagger he had taken from Li Jianyu and holding it to his own neck. “Don’t chase.”

Rong Qing’s body stiffened, and he quickly raised his hand to signal everyone not to act rashly.

Feng Juheng’s gaze darkened. He took a pearl the size of an egg from his pocket and then closed his eyes, stroking this divine artifact that Red Snake had given him.

The pearl slowly emitted a strange red light. Feng Juhua felt his strength slowly being stripped away, his limbs going weak, and the ten thousand gu-worms in his blood erupting, both painful and itchy.

“Imperial Brother, come here.”

Feng Juhua held on desperately, cold sweat dripping from his forehead, and the hand holding the dagger was purple from the force.

“I am weak and foolish. In the past, I had originally just wanted to end the war, so that the people would no longer be in dire straits, and to help Qianli ascend the throne, so that our Great Xi could become better.”

“But now that it has come to this, I am of no use. All I have left is this body and my life.”

Feng Juhua smiled, looked at Li Jianyu, who was already far away, and shouted in a loud voice, “I wish the Great Gong a victorious flag and an invincible army—!”

Slash—

Feng Juheng stared blankly at the Feng Juhua before him, and the tragic smile on his face.

“Zhao Linxu—!”

Zhao Linxu looked up and saw Li Jianyu riding towards him.

Sweeping away the enemy with his whip, Zhao Linxu charged forward like a madman.

“Ah…!”

Li Jianyu felt a whip wrap around his waist, and Zhao Linxu leaped up, reaching out to pull him onto his own horse.

“Little Carp, I’m here.”

Holding Li Jianyu in his arms, Zhao Linxu greedily buried his head in the crook of his neck and took a deep breath.

“Little Carp, don’t be afraid.”

Li Jianyu rested his head against Zhao Linxu’s chest, suppressing the surging emotions.

Zhao Linxu’s body was covered in the thick scent of blood, and his whole body was covered in blood, with large and small wounds.

“You fool…”

Li Jianyu smiled lightly. “It doesn’t matter if I die here tonight.”

He was being held by Zhao Linxu, his strong and powerful arms around him, shielding him from the firelight and the enemy outside.

But it was clear that they would not die tonight.

A sharp cry rang out, followed by the sound of war drums that shook the heavens. Li Jianyu looked up and saw three phoenixes circling in the sky, arrogantly tilting their heads to display their nobility.

And not far away, Zhao Zhanqi and Feng Ju Qianli were leading the North-South army and the Ghost-Faced Army, slowly approaching. The big wolf followed beside the two commanders, looking majestic.

Hua Huanxi had probably arrived after Li Jianyu’s accident. The disciples of the Hundred Flowers Sect were holding white silk and had set up a formation.

Ten thousand horses galloped, and the dust was half a person’s height.

Although Zhao Linxu and Xu Zheng had come out secretly, this was Zhao Zhanqi’s territory. How could they have hidden it from him?

Zhao Zhanqi and Feng Ju Qianli were first shocked and had a headache over the two’s impulsive actions, then they simply played along with the plan, and now they had directly launched the first official battle between the two armies!

“Little Carp, where is Feng Juheng?”

Now, only by finding Feng Juheng could they save Feng Juhua.

Zhao Linxu had come with Xu Zheng, and the two had fought side by side. They naturally knew each other’s purpose. Now that Zhao Linxu’s was complete, he naturally had to help Xu Zheng.

“Let’s go find them. It’s best if we can take the enemy’s head and demoralize their army!”

The two of them went straight for the main camp, and that night, the ancient city was filled with the sounds of killing.
