The Justice I Never Expected Has Increased 46

Chapter 46

—Calvados really is a traitor.

This news spread through the organization in the middle of the night. Bingo presented concrete evidence to Rum, pointing out that Calvados had a conversation with Gin two days ago and had been missing since.

“I don’t believe it,”

Even though she was already in position at the sniping point, Chianti still said subconsciously upon hearing the intel through her earpiece.

“This might be Bingo’s scheme, he’s always held a grudge against us, aren’t we playing right into that bastard’s hands?”

No one in the earpiece dared to reply. Chianti waited for a few seconds, only hearing Vermouth’s laughter.

The woman, wearing a helmet, leaned against her parked motorcycle: “It’s the Boss’s order. The surveillance footage of Calvados repeatedly letting traitors go is clear, Chianti, don’t deceive yourself.”

Of course, even with that, the Boss wouldn’t have decided to deal with Calvados. What truly angered Karasuma Renya was the crow left in the mansion.

Asuka Kazuya broke its wings, pinning its body to the table with a dagger. The viscous blood dripped onto the floor, like a foreshadowing of everyone’s fate.

Not to mention his ability. Calvados had a lot of information in his head. If he was allowed to escape to the police alive, it would definitely cause a huge loss to the organization.

Vermouth was slightly curious as to why he suddenly did this.

If he wanted to escape, he could have just snuck away. Even if he swallowed the poison Rum prepared for him, taking Rum hostage and escaping wasn’t impossible either.

Vermouth didn’t believe that Bingo was the one who found the evidence. She glanced at the Porsche parked by the road, quickly realizing that Calvados did this to drag Gin down.

The organization had been pushing him, that was true.

But the only one who truly pushed him to the edge was Gin.

Vermouth raised an eyebrow, suspicious of the list Gin hadn’t finished analyzing yet.

If Calvados could manipulate Bingo, he could manipulate others too. To maximize the damage to the organization, there might be a few more code-named members added to that list. Half-truths, with Gin’s personality, he would probably kill them all.

“I remember Calvados saying many times that he was undercover,” at another sniping point, Calvados looked down at the empty street, saying expressionlessly, “unfortunately, no one believed him, especially you, Vodka.”

Vodka: “…”

Vodka’s feelings were complicated. Perhaps from being gaslighted too much, strangely, he didn’t feel much anger at being deceived by Calvados.

“I have a question,” Vodka said quietly under everyone’s gaze. “How can you be sure that Calvados will come out from this place?”

This was one of the organization’s properties. Vodka, shaken awake from his sleep, was still confused about the current situation.

“Knowing Calvados, usually, by the time we receive the alarm that he’s broken into a building, he’s already one foot in the trap.”

“Then why don’t we switch?” Tequila, slowly searching the building, leaning against the wall, said, “There’s no signal inside, if Calvados wants to take the data out, he has to come out himself.”

“…Even so, wouldn’t one suppressor be enough? What’s the point of bringing ten? Decoration?”

“Shut up,” Tequila cursed, his suit covered in suppressors, his clothes gleaming in the moonlight, the reflected light making his face look even more terrifying. “I don’t want to drop dead before even getting close to him. If it weren’t so expensive, I would have stuck a few more on my face.”

“You’re too afraid of him.” In contrast, Scotch, also sent to scout the building, was unhurried. He glanced at the guard’s body at his feet, finding a suitable sniping position. “Without his ability, Calvados is just a slightly more capable ordinary person.”

“Hmph,” Tequila scoffed. “Easy for you to say.”

04:18, all organization personnel were in position.

Gin stood on high ground, coldly watching this scene. The night wind gently lifted the hem of his trench coat, his figure disappearing into the darkness, his entire being like ice, radiating a faint chill.

04:32, Tequila reported finding Calvados’s movement on the thermal imager, launching a joint attack with Scotch.

04:42, Ireland and Vodka joined as backup. Ten minutes later, Ireland’s weapon was seized, Calvados was shot twice, and disappeared again.

“Your idea?”

Gin took a drag of his cigarette. Although he didn’t turn around, his emerald eyes shifted to the side.

Bourbon, also wearing a trench coat, stood there, his frivolous smile irritating. He shrugged nonchalantly upon hearing this.

“Of course not,”

Bourbon said innocently.

“You asked me to get along with Calvados, I just did as I was told.”

Gin looked away, his tone calm: “Bourbon, do you think you can escape this?”

“It’s not about escaping,”

Bourbon uncrossed his arms, dusting off his clothes.

“You treated me as an expendable pawn from the beginning, it’s natural for Calvados to retaliate after discovering this.”

A bullet grazed Bourbon’s face, the metal embedded in the wall still spinning. Bourbon, expressionless, wiped the blood from his face unhurriedly.

“I remember Bingo is fully in charge of this operation.”

“He’s an idiot too,” Gin sneered, his hand gripping his gun, looking at him menacingly. “Exposing the organization’s actions to the public, is this your plan?”

“Whatever you say,” Bourbon smiled. “Do you think a name like Kurosawa Jin will appear on that list? Can you even kill yourself?”

Not angered by Bourbon’s words, Gin simply said calmly: “A dying struggle.”

“Being played by that guy, like a cat being toyed with by a mouse, Rum is hopeless.”

04:56, Calvados evaded the pursuit of the four and forced his way through the gate.

04:58, Calvados fired the first shot.

Whether it was due to his ability or he had anticipated Calvados’s location, Asuka Kazuya tilted his head and dodged the bullet, even having the mood to lament the punctured tire by the roadside.

He aimed at Calvados, whose expression was unreadable, with the weapon he seized from Ireland.

05:02, the weapon in Calvados’s hand was shot down by a sniper from another direction.

He moved his numb wrist, meeting Chianti’s eyes. Then Korn saw him open his mouth, seemingly saying something with a smile.

But these words clearly fueled Chianti’s fighting spirit. The woman cursed, gritting her teeth and firing a second shot.

Pedestrians were appearing on the streets. Logically, to prevent Calvados from escaping, switching to close combat was the more reasonable approach.

Vermouth started her motorcycle engine, gesturing to Tequila and the others who were chasing after him.

Eliminate Calvados and other witnesses before daybreak.

Tequila aimed at a few surprised high school students riding bicycles, just as he was about to shoot, he saw blood blooming on Ireland’s shoulder.

“Amuro-san,”

Kazami’s voice came through Bourbon’s earpiece. He was lying in wait at the corner with a small team, several Public Security officers pulling passersby back.

“We’re in position, ready to act.”

Bourbon, expressionless, was still confronting Gin.

“There are people close to Calvados everywhere in the organization. Are you planning to kill everyone, Gin?”

Nothing was going his way. Gin’s aim shifted, pointing at Bingo, who emerged from the shadows.

They were all organization members, but unlike when he was chased away from the base a few years ago, Bingo, having turned the tables, was full of mockery, his opening words being, “You’re taking orders from me now.”

Gin was expressionless, feeling that the organization was doomed.

“Cease the operation,” he said. “This is a special period, why do you think Calvados is making such a big fuss?”

Bingo didn’t care, having received Rum’s instructions, he wanted to take Gin down.

“Are you saying this to help him escape?” Bingo sneered, glancing at Bourbon beside him, “What do you mean by pointing your gun at me? You also want to betray us?”

It wasn’t an illusion.

They really were hopelessly stupid.

Gin had always been against recruiting these idiots into the organization. Stupidity was one thing, but obedience was acceptable. Unfortunately, there weren’t many obedient members, and after years of Calvados’s brainwashing, everyone thought they were special.

Gin sneered, losing his patience.

“Oh?” Gin holstered his gun, putting his Beretta back in his pocket, his tone mocking. “You call this commanding, standing here watching? After all these years, you’re still living in his shadow?”

Bingo scowled, annoyed by the contempt in Gin’s tone.

“Ignore the cops, eliminate them along with the witnesses.”

Vermouth raised an eyebrow, lowering her body to avoid Public Security’s attack, but she saw a little girl with blond hair at the corner.

She was wearing white clothes, round-framed glasses covering half her face. Unlike the other frightened passersby, she stood calmly, seemingly waiting for someone to pick her up.

Vermouth noticed the medal on her chest, awarded by Britain to outstanding individuals in military science. [1] The girl smiled, raising her camera at Vermouth.

Before her precious brain could be damaged by Vermouth, Asuka Kazuya grabbed her and ran.

“Don’t die here,”

“That’s my line.” Dr. Shelley—as a member of the British delegation, she looked no older than a teenager. “Not only did you trick me into coming here with a phone call, but you also carried me like luggage, are all Japanese people this ungentlemanly?”

“I didn’t trick you,” Asuka Kazuya said while dodging attacks and running, his voice steady, his stamina clearly much better than before. “Something interesting really did happen, besides, you could have just asked me about the Assassin King on the phone, why did you sneak here yourself?”

Dr. Shelley didn’t speak, curiously glancing at the slowly healing wounds on him, recalling her masterpiece.

As an ability technician, she was often proud of the ability user investigators she created, with independent intelligence and judgment.

She had also heard about the incident eight years ago in Europe where an experimental subject went berserk and was confirmed dead. Dr. Shelley had studied the footage, feeling that the little boy and Asuka Kazuya had some similarities.

“I believe in science,” Dr. Shelley said excitedly. “As long as you can provide me with sufficient experimental data, I can help you.”

“Of course, I hate the government’s approach, clearly the best data can be obtained through independent operations and social interaction.”

Asuka Kazuya glanced down at her, thinking she was even stranger than him.

“A contract?”

“My word is the contract.”

A troublesome child.

Asuka Kazuya stopped, his actions unexpected. The light of his ability enveloped the incoming bullets, he reached out and caught the fragmented bullets in his hand.

When he opened his hand again, a chibi Nakahara Chuuya doll lay in his palm.

Analyzing, then rewriting the code, creating something entirely new.

Dr. Shelley’s eyes widened, saying his taste was truly strange.

“Is it really that strange?”

Asuka Kazuya put the doll back in his pocket.

“As Chuuya’s older brother, of course I think Chuuya is the cutest.”

“You’re using ‘cute’ to describe a mafia member?” Dr. Shelley crossed her arms, thinking for a moment, then chuckling. “Next time I do this kind of research, I’ll have them write something normal inside.”

“Adam!”

The girl raised her voice, and a black figure appeared. As Dr. Shelley’s creation, the mechanical investigator blocked most of the subsequent attacks.

“You should at least have flowers when giving a lady a gift, but considering it’s your coming-of-age ceremony, I won’t hold it against you.”

Asuka Kazuya was puzzled: “You investigated me?”

“Was there a need to investigate?”

Dr. Shelley looked at him like he was an idiot.

“Your older brother, to commemorate you, leaves a gift at the old research facility every year. Three years ago, during the Queen’s assassination, he took the Queen’s crown.”

Asuka Kazuya exclaimed: “So cool, I want to steal it too.”

The news of a senior researcher from the investigation team being attacked in Japan spread.

At the end of the street, Nakahara Chuuya leaned against the motorcycle Tachihara gave him, watching the two people who seemed to be taking a stroll.

“Hey,” he said, slightly annoyed, “did you really have to keep this from me?”

Asuka Kazuya threw Dr. Shelley over, sincerely saying “sorry.”

As one of the people in charge of receiving the British delegation, Nakahara Chuuya was naturally responsible for Dr. Shelley’s disappearance.

But Nakahara Chuuya remained expressionless, replying, “Who’s talking about that?”

Asuka Kazuya took out a gun from his pocket, expertly loading the magazine: “I didn’t want to trouble you. The Port Mafia is your family—Tachihara said you said that.”

Nakahara Chuuya’s expression worsened.

He glanced at the pursuers in the distance, then at the snipers on high ground, recalling why he joined the Port Mafia.

For Yokohama’s stability, for the power to protect important people without being deceived.

“Who’s your younger brother?”

Nakahara Chuuya reached out and took his chibi doll from Asuka Kazuya’s pocket. He clearly heard the previous conversation, clicking his tongue and putting it in his jacket.

“Give it back if you don’t like it.”

“No.”

“Then hurry up and take this crazy doctor away.”

“I already said I refuse.”

As if back to their bickering days in the slums, Nakahara Chuuya stepped on the gravel, walking forward unhurriedly.

“The Flags, and Verlaine, I know what the Boss did.”

As dawn broke, Nakahara Chuuya stood beside Asuka Kazuya.

“You first, then everything else.”

Asuka Kazuya was stunned, watching Nakahara Chuuya take off his gloves.

“Don’t be mistaken,”

“Whatever they say, this is why I joined the Port Mafia in the first place.”

In front of his silent senior, Asuka Kazuya raised his hand and swore. "I've already come up with the perfect escape plan. Given time, I'll definitely be able to successfully complete this mission!" The young man wore an expensive suit, his delicate features determined. However, his cuffs were stained crimson. His senior, who had recently become an intelligence officer, suddenly had a bad feeling. The door to the conference room behind him opened. In front of Gin, who had just finished negotiations, Asuka Kazuya raised his crayon-drawn police badge and his small water gun. "I'm a police officer!" "Surrender immediately!" Gin: ... As they say, every organization has its own attention-seeker. As Dazai Osamu gradually let loose suppressed laughter, Gin closed his eyes in exasperation. "Asuka Kazuya." He said. "Are you looking for death?"
