Chapter 31
Ye Jiabao was now beginning to suspect that his rebirth had caused some kind of butterfly effect, leading to the little male lead’s brain being damaged.
He circled Qin Ye twice and even reached out to ruffle his hair.
“Grandma said you hit your head on the mountain. Is the wound not healed yet?”
Qin Ye’s eyes showed vigilance. The toddler-sized child frowned, which halved his intimidating presence and increased his cuteness.
“Why are you asking that?”
Ye Jiabao was quite righteous. He put his hands on his hips, so angry that smoke was practically coming out of his head.
“What else am I supposed to ask? If your brain isn’t healed, then hurry up and get it treated. Don’t delay your condition, okay? Do you think everyone is a psycho like you?”
Qin Ye was inexplicably scolded, and his brows furrowed even tighter.
He looked at the slight restlessness in Ye Jiabao’s eyes, his impatient expression, and the faint hint of resentment on his face.
Qin Ye’s brain whirred. He didn’t show it on his face and only asked one question:
“Why are you always targeting Tiantian?”
Qin Ye had discovered that Ye Jiabao would take every opportunity to sabotage Tiantian in front of the camera.
But wasn’t Tiantian Ye Jiabao’s cousin?
Ye Jiabao had nothing to say to a little male lead like Qin Ye. Besides, he was only four or five years old. What the hell would he understand?
He waved his hand, put his hands in his pockets, and let out a soft hmph. Thinking of something, his expression was filled with unconcealable pride.
“What do you know? I am the Son of Destiny. What’s the big deal about targeting Shen Tiantian?”
After saying that, Ye Jiabao remembered that he had made some progress in inquiring about a film crew recruiting child actors. He turned his head and left the Shen family.
Qin Ye was left behind, repeatedly pondering these words.
A gust of wind blew in the afternoon, whistling as it swept across the lawn and garden. The dry grass on the ground swayed wildly, on the verge of being uprooted.
Auntie Mu and the other aunties went to the back garden, moved the potted plants, and fixed wooden supports for a few small trees that had not yet grown strong.
Shen Tiantian was woken up by the howling wind. He carried his small pillow and ran down in a hurry.
He went to the yard and saw Qin Ye bustling among the aunties and uncles, helping to move small potted plants back and forth.
Shen Tiantian quickly threw his pillow aside, ran over, and, using all his might, helped to lift a corner of a potted plant.
Qin Ye was opposite him, his little face tense. With a great effort, the two of them barely managed to lift the potted plant.
“Tiantian, go inside. The wind is too strong here,” Qin Ye shouted, his voice carrying over the wind.
The pot on Tiantian’s side was barely a centimeter off the ground. He gritted his teeth, and his strength quickly ran out. The potted plant fell to the ground with a thud, firmly welded to the ground.
As soon as Shen Tiantian let go, the potted plant that Qin Ye had just lifted a little also immediately fell to the ground.
Fortunately, the flower pot was of good quality and didn’t crack from the fall.
Shen Tiantian panted heavily. After moving for just a short while, a layer of sweat had formed on his forehead.
He didn’t even have time to wipe it. A gust of wind blew, not only sweeping away the sweat on his forehead but also sweeping Shen Tiantian forward.
Shen Tiantian felt as if his little feet had left the ground. He grabbed at the air a few times, and in a moment of confusion, he tumbled forward.
The shouts of Qin Ye and Auntie Mu-Mu came from behind:
“Tiantian!”
Shen Tiantian did a somersault, like a round little rubber ball. After rolling twice on the ground, he lay face down on the ground, motionless.
Lifting his little face, Shen Tiantian spat out a few leaves that he had accidentally chewed on.
Having fallen too many times, Shen Tiantian didn’t mind at all. He got up from the ground and patted the dust off his little pants.
However, Qin Ye, who had run over after him, was extremely worried. He hugged Shen Tiantian’s fleshy little waist, so scared that his lips turned pale.
“Tiantian, you were almost swept away by the wind!”
Tiantian’s dazed little head finally came to its senses. His little face was stained with dirt, but he couldn’t help but giggle.
“Really? Maybe… maybe Grandma Wind likes me and wanted to pull me along to play.”
Hearing this, Qin Ye’s brows were still furrowed, and he couldn’t help but say:
“Even if she likes you, she can’t just sweep you away like that.”
Auntie Mu came over a step later. Seeing that Shen Tiantian had turned into a little mud loach just after waking up, she shook her head in amusement.
Taking the little one’s hand, Auntie Mu first took Tiantian back to the house to wash his little face.
In the washroom, Shen Tiantian held a warm little towel, tilted his little face up, and wiped it randomly.
After wiping, he even let out a long sigh, opened his eyes, and checked if his face was clean.
The hair at the little cub’s temples in the mirror was wet and stuck up messily. His little eyes were still a bit dazed from waking up, and he looked a little silly.
However, Shen Tiantian felt good about himself. After wiping his little face clean, he even had Auntie Mu-Mu put some fragrance on him.
“I want to be a fragrant little child.”
Qin Ye stood at the washroom door, stood on his tiptoes to look in, and chimed in.
“Tiantian is very good-looking.”
Tiantian was praised. He looked in the mirror for a long time and then jumped down from the small chair.
The aunties and the gardener uncle finished their work and dispersed. Shen Tiantian changed his clothes, sat in his baby chair, and ate his afternoon tea snacks.
“Why is Grandma Wind angry today? The wind is blowing so hard.”
Shen Tiantian’s mouth was full. He propped up his head and looked at Auntie Mu-Mu in confusion.
Auntie Mu-Mu broke off half a piece of jujube paste cake for Tiantian, put another piece in Qin Ye’s bowl, thought for a moment, and replied:
“The weather is probably changing. With such a strong wind, it will definitely rain later.”
Shen Tiantian obediently said “oh.” Although he still didn’t understand, fortunately, he was not the type to overthink things and quickly put the matter to the back of his mind.
The strong wind continued until nightfall.
As Auntie Mu had expected, the sky was dark and gloomy, the air was mixed with a lot of damp mist, and the temperature seemed to have dropped several degrees in an instant.
It was like entering winter in an instant.
Tiantian had never seen such a dark sky before and stood by the glass window for a long time.
Qin Ye dutifully acted as a little follower, standing by the glass window with him, but his peripheral vision was always on Tiantian.
Seeing Tiantian sigh, Qin Ye asked:
“What’s wrong? Is Tiantian unhappy because of the bad weather?”
Tiantian shook his little head, hesitated for a moment, and still said:
“The wind is so strong, and my brothers and daddy are not back yet.”
Although Qin Ye had been in the Shen family for two days, he had only seen Tiantian’s brothers twice, and he had never seen Shen Yuanchuan at all.
He felt that Tiantian’s worry was unnecessary.
“They probably won’t be back.”
The few of them didn’t seem like the type to be attached to home.
Work or the company seemed to be more important to them.
At dinner, Shen Tiantian was still absent-minded.
After a couple of bites, he would lift his little head and look towards the door.
Unfortunately, until Shen Tiantian fell asleep, there was no sound of a car engine in the yard.
Wearing his thickened fluffy pajamas, Shen Tiantian stood by his window, staring at the pitch-black night outside, which was like a deep abyss monster, and was in a daze with his chin propped up.
Could his brothers and daddy have been eaten by a monster?
Just like his mother?
Auntie Mu came in with a small glass of milk and called Tiantian softly:
“Come and drink your milk. After drinking it, our Tiantian will grow tall and sleep soundly.”
Tiantian was in a bad mood, but he still drank the milk very quickly, gulping it down in a few mouthfuls.
He didn’t need anyone to worry about him at all.
He obediently wiped the milk from his mouth with a tissue. After thinking for a moment, he still couldn’t help but ask:
“Auntie Mu-Mu, the wind is so strong. Will Daddy and my brothers be taken away?”
Auntie Mu’s movements were gentle. She ruffled the little one’s head, held him, placed him on the small bed, and gently tucked him in.
“No, they won’t. Mr. Shen and your brothers are at the company. They’re very safe.”
Shen Tiantian lay in the soft, fragrant quilt, watched Auntie Mu close the door and leave, and couldn’t help but kick off a corner of the quilt.
Tiantian, who usually fell asleep very quickly, tossed and turned in his small bed this time and couldn’t fall asleep for a long time.
The bed was a mess, like a little pigsty.
Lying on the quilt, Shen Tiantian looked at the guardrail with one small railing sawed off, thought for a long time, and still felt that he had to call his two annoying brothers.
To confirm their safety, so that they could compensate him for his damaged little bed in the future.
The howling wind blew through the tall buildings, making a howling sound.
In the company, Shen Xiuze pressed his throbbing head, finished the last bit of the project, and let out a heavy sigh of relief.
The people in the branch company had all left, and only the lights in his acting president’s office were still on.
The dark building was so quiet at this moment that he could hear his own breathing.
Shen Xiuze had been working at high intensity for almost half a month. At this moment, his head was throbbing with pain. Just as he was thinking of going to the rest room next door to lie down for a while, he received a call from Shen Tiantian.
Unlike his usual energetic and lively voice, the little one’s tone was obviously softer.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Xiuze asked.
Tiantian seemed to be thinking. After a shallow breath, a milky voice came through:
“Big brother, are you still alive?”
Shen Xiuze: “…”
“What do you think?” Shen Xiuze pressed the bridge of his nose. “Can I still receive your call if I’m dead?”
Shen Tiantian on the other end let out a silly laugh, inexplicably happy again. He hummed twice and continued:
“Alright then. You’d better not die, or… or no one will compensate me for my little bed.”
Shen Xiuze found it a little funny and agreed.
The little one’s voice came through the faint electric current, making Shen Xiuze’s palm itch again. He really wanted to poke his hair or little belly through the phone.
“Hurry up and go to sleep. It’s getting late.”
Shen Xiuze’s voice unconsciously softened. After hanging up the phone, he thought for a while and went to look for some information he had found before.
This was information he had investigated before Shen Tiantian came to the Shen family.
Sure enough, the information showed that Shen Tiantian’s mother had died on a stormy day. Because of the bad weather and slippery roads, her car had crashed into the green belt and she had died on the spot.
