Chapter 4
In the dining room.
Shen Tiantian was dangling one of his injured little feet, his cheeks puffed out as he chewed nonstop. Chew, chew, chew.
Seeing the newly arrived brother standing by the dining table watching him, Shen Tiantian also looked up, glaring at him with eyes like black gems embedded in his cheeks.
Why are you looking at Tiantian?
With this thought, Tiantian pulled the rice bowl on his little tray closer to his chest, his distinct black and white eyes darting around.
The look of fear that someone would steal his food was written all over his face, making him incredibly easy to read.
Shen Xiuze had spent the entire day battling a group of cunning old foxes at the company. Suddenly seeing such a transparent gaze, for a moment, a thought actually crossed his mind.
Could this little cub be faking it?
But when Shen Xiuze saw Shen Tiantian’s toddler-sized body, which wouldn’t even reach his knees if he jumped, he couldn’t help but laugh self-deprecatingly.
I must be bored. What kind of schemes could a three-year-old brat possibly have?
Shen Xiuze handed his coat to an auntie. He had just washed his hands and sat down when he heard Shen Tiantian’s tender and soft, milky voice.
“Daddy, why is big brother glaring at me? Does he want to steal my food?”
Shen Tiantian hugged his little food bowl tightly, showing no intention of hiding his bad-mouthing from the person in question. He even raised his watery, round eyes to look at Shen Xiuze without blinking.
“This is mine.”
Shen Xiuze: “…”
Who would want it?
Shen Yuanchuan placed a piece of soft little cake in Shen Tiantian’s bowl, shutting his little son’s chirping mouth.
“Hurry up and eat. Your big brother has never seen you before; he’s just curious about what you look like.”
Shen Jinfeng, who had been sitting silently for most of the time, now spoke up:
“Even food can’t shut your mouth.”
Shen Tiantian’s little face flushed red with anger at Shen Jinfeng’s words. He didn’t even want to eat his little cake anymore.
He stood up on the baby chair with one foot, stretched his arm out as far as it could go, and even with a person between them, he reached his spoon into Shen Jinfeng’s bowl, scooped out the braised pork, and stuffed it into his own mouth in one go.
Hmph, this is the consequence of provoking me, the Long Tiantian baby!
Chewing on the fragrant braised pork, Shen Tiantian continued to dangle his swollen-toed foot, happily wagging his little head at Shen Jinfeng.
You can’t have it now!
Shen Jinfeng was stunned for a moment, then fell silent.
Why did I provoke this little fool?
Shen Xiuze, who had witnessed the entire exchange, couldn’t help but let a smile touch his handsome, cold face. It was tinged with mockery, though it was unclear who he was laughing at.
Fortunately, Shen Tiantian was a very fair cub.
After scooping the meat from his second brother’s bowl, he also extended his spoon to scoop the small pork ribs from his eldest brother’s bowl.
Like a little tyrant, at his very first family dinner, he had already asserted his dominance over his two villainous brothers!
After this battle, the two brothers will surely know that this cub is not to be trifled with!
Letting out a full burp, Shen Tiantian rubbed his little tummy and lay on the sofa, proudly shaking his little head with its stubborn tuft of hair.
The fame of me, Long Tiantian, has begun to spread throughout the Shen family!
As he was shaking his little body with laughter, the doctor beside him spoke:
“The toe isn’t too badly swollen, but you still need to apply medicine. Once in the morning and once at night, and it will heal faster.”
The doctor pinched Shen Tiantian’s toe, rubbing the anti-swelling ointment in firmly. The pain made little tears instantly well up in his eyes.
“Wuwu~”
Shen Tiantian cried miserably. Shen Yuanchuan, who was standing nearby, wanted to laugh but didn’t dare, so he could only try his best to suppress the corners of his mouth.
After seeing the doctor off, Shen Yuanchuan was about to ask how Shen Tiantian was adjusting to the Shen family when he turned his head and saw that the little one had already fallen asleep on the sofa.
Shen Tiantian’s thin eyelids were closed, and a crystalline tear still clung to his thick lashes, about to fall but not quite. His nose and cheeks were flushed red.
His little nose twitched, as if he were extremely wronged even in his sleep.
Shen Yuanchuan walked over, his expression softening. He stopped Auntie Mu from picking Shen Tiantian up and reached out to lift the little one himself.
He was light and soft. The little one was quite a troublemaker, but his whole body was soft, and he weighed almost nothing when held.
Like a marshmallow that would sink in if you poked it.
Shen Yuanchuan carried Shen Tiantian to his bedroom upstairs. Seeing his little son sleeping soundly, a small bundle nestled in the quilt, his heart melted for a rare moment.
Closing the door, Shen Yuanchuan went to the study to deal with the pile of company business.
A while later, Shen Xiuze and Shen Jinfeng also came to the study and began to report on their recent work to Shen Yuanchuan.
Shen Xiuze had started interning at a branch company when he began university at seventeen. In just a few short years, he had become an absolute authority at the Shen Group’s branch.
He was cautious yet bold, with a high IQ. Every step he took was the result of countless efforts, and he had almost never made a wrong decision.
Although Shen Yuanchuan didn’t say it, he was very pleased and satisfied with his eldest son.
If nothing unexpected happened, after this project was completed, Shen Xiuze would officially enter the Shen Group’s main headquarters and assume the position of President of Operations.
Listening to his elder brother’s report, Shen Jinfeng’s thin eyelids drooped, and he sneered inwardly.
It’s just the advantage of being older.
“Jinfeng, how is that app you’re investing in for practice?”
Although his second son had only been learning about investment for a short time, his talent was already beginning to show. His judgment was incredibly sharp. An inconspicuous product he had previously invested in had now become one of the hottest items on the market.
A smile played on Shen Jinfeng’s lips. He glanced at Shen Xiuze’s stern face and said:
“This live-streaming software has only been promoted for less than two months, but it has already captured one-third of the market share. Moreover, the other competing software all have backing from capital in the entertainment industry.”
Hearing this, Shen Yuanchuan couldn’t help but nod.
“Not bad. For this software to stand out from the crowd of live-streaming apps, it must have something new and unique. It’s a pity our Shen family has never dabbled in the entertainment industry, otherwise, further progress wouldn’t be impossible.”
At this, a thought struck Shen Jinfeng.
“Recently, a director approached me. He said he’s preparing to launch a live-streaming family variety show and would like our software to have exclusive broadcasting rights.”
“However, he hopes the Shen family can participate as guests. The duration would be about three to four months.”
Shen Yuanchuan was a man of somewhat old-fashioned ideas, but he was not averse to new things.
He tapped his fingers on the desk, looking at his two grown sons whose wings were gradually becoming full, and then thought of the little son he had just brought home, who was so silly he only knew how to eat meat.
The words of refusal that were on the tip of his tongue were held back. After a long moment of contemplation, Shen Yuanchuan lowered his eyes and said:
“It’s not out of the question.”
Shen Yuanchuan thought of the recent trending topic about the two brothers fighting for power. Although a smile still lingered on his lips, his tone had clearly cooled.
“But I don’t want to be on the show only to see headlines about a wealthy family’s power struggle and fraternal strife.”
Both Shen Xiuze and Shen Jinfeng were rare geniuses. If one of them had been more mediocre, Shen Yuanchuan might not have had such a headache.
But as it was, neither of them lacked talent, intelligence, cunning, or ambition. And both were proud and aloof, unwilling to bow their heads and hand things over to the other.
Shen Xiuze still wore his icy, deadpan expression. His eyes met Shen Jinfeng’s smiling ones, and they looked at each other with mutual dislike.
After being reprimanded, the two of them walked out of the study and began to trade barbs.
“Big brother seems very pleased with himself. Being called ‘Young Mr. Shen’ at the company, don’t tell me you really think the Shen Group is yours?”
Shen Xiuze was not to be outdone, his tone as cold as ice shards:
“Naturally better than you, engaging in unorthodox and unpresentable things. The profits don’t even amount to ten percent of the project I’m handling.”
Shen Jinfeng’s lips flattened, his expression instantly turning gloomy.
At this moment, their dissatisfaction with each other was on the verge of turning into ice arrows, ready to pierce the other’s body, preferably leaving bloody holes!
As they were trading insults, a milky little voice came from the side:
“Young Mr. Shen? What’s that?”
Shen Tiantian was hugging his little pillow. Because his toe was still swollen, he wasn’t wearing slippers. He stood barefoot on the floor, tilting up his little face, his eyelids drooping with sleep, and looked at his two brothers with drowsy eyes.
“What are you doing here?”
Shen Jinfeng’s words were, as always, unpleasant. He frowned at the little tyke by his feet.
The little tyke yawned, the end of his words drawn out long and soft. It seemed he was about to fall asleep while talking.
“You were talking in secret, hiding from me, hmph! I found you~”
After saying that, Shen Tiantian was overcome with sleepiness. He placed his little pillow on the floor, rested his head on it, and started to snore softly.
“You guys can talk. I’ll supervise you here.”
If it weren’t for the quiet of the night, Shen Jinfeng would have barely heard that mumbled sentence.
Shen Jinfeng’s frown deepened. He was about to say something else when Shen Xiuze spoke first.
“He’s already asleep.”
Shen Jinfeng was exasperated by this cheap little brother. He pressed his forehead and looked at the little tyke curled up on the floor, supervising them while sleeping. He let out a long sigh.
“I thought Shen Yuanchuan’s genes would only produce high-IQ prodigies. Now it seems that’s not necessarily the case.”
If Shen Tiantian were still awake, he would definitely have given his annoying second brother a swift kick to the chest to let him taste the might of a Long Aotian cub!
Unfortunately, Shen Tiantian was lying by the door, sleeping like a little piglet. He was exhausted and even letting out soft little snores.
Shen Jinfeng glanced at Shen Xiuze’s indifferent expression, then at Shen Tiantian sleeping soundly on the floor, and felt a headache coming on.
“What do we do now? Who’s going to carry him back to bed?”
Shen Jinfeng felt that with Shen Xiuze’s cold-hearted and ruthless personality, he would definitely be unwilling to carry this noisy little thing back.
This kind of manual labor would fall to someone “kind-faced and soft-hearted” like him.
After a long silence in the quiet corridor, a clear but cold voice suddenly spoke:
“I’ll carry him.”
Shen Jinfeng put back the hand he had extended and looked back in surprise at Shen Xiuze.
He was about to ask if Shen Xiuze had taken the wrong medicine, but in the next second, Shen Xiuze had already cupped Shen Tiantian’s bottom and lifted the little tyke up.
It was like holding a very soft cloud that radiated warmth. A slight vibration came from his small chest as Shen Tiantian’s unique little snores emerged.
In his sleep, Shen Tiantian’s cheeks were as pink as the morning clouds, looking cute and well-behaved.
Shen Jinfeng watched Shen Xiuze walk away with the annoying little brother, frowning. His mind raced through several possibilities in an instant.
Shen Xiuze… has he lost his mind?
