Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

The Mad Scientist’s Domesticated Little Zombie 20p1

Chapter 20: So Good, Lingling p1

Perhaps it was because he had gotten used to sleeping in Shi Changyuan’s bed, or perhaps it was because the human’s body heat was just so warm, but Lin Ling slept very soundly this time, without any nightmares from the horror movie.

Instead, he dreamed of a certain human’s childhood.

The little zombie sat dazedly on the bed, his gaze constantly drifting towards Shi Changyuan outside the door.

It was all Shi Changyuan’s fault for dropping such a bombshell before bed, saying he had seen him a long, long time ago. It made Lin Ling’s dreams all night long a recollection of when he might have seen him.

He dreamed of Shi Changyuan in his school days, wearing a school uniform.

His face was more youthful than it was now. He wore the standard blue and white school uniform, always had a cold expression, and ignored everyone, looking even more like an icicle than he did now.

And the little zombie, during his high school days while disguised as a human, was a bit less talkative than he was now and liked to walk with his head down.

Perhaps it was under these circumstances that they had passed each other in a corridor somewhere.

So Shi Changyuan said he had seen him.

But this dream had a bug. He and Shi Changyuan had a bit of an age gap, so it was impossible for them to have been in the same school at the same time.

Perhaps his subconscious received this information, and Lin Ling’s dream changed again. He then dreamed of Shi Changyuan in elementary school, Shi Changyuan in kindergarten. These fragments were exceptionally blurry.

He couldn’t see clearly, and he couldn’t remember them after waking up.

Perhaps the conscious Lin Ling couldn’t imagine what Shi Changyuan would have looked like as a child.

But the high school version of Shi Changyuan in his dream was so clear that when the little zombie woke up, he couldn’t help but compare the two faces.

“…He’s still better looking now.”

“What’s better looking?”

In the few minutes that Lin Ling was recalling last night’s dream, Shi Changyuan walked in with breakfast.

Seeing Shi Changyuan’s face gradually magnify in front of him, a faint smile in his eyes, the little zombie snapped back to his senses.

Although Shi Changyuan’s smile now always gave him a mischievous impression, compared to the cold, gray-eyed little icicle, he still preferred the current Shi Changyuan!

“N-Nothing.”

The little zombie was a bit guilty, his eyelashes fluttering rapidly as he looked away.

Shi Changyuan smiled, not exposing him. He just said, “Has Lingling thought about what you want?”

“…No.”

Lin Ling almost subconsciously shook his head.

He really couldn’t think of anything he wanted anymore. He didn’t lack anything here; he could have whatever he wanted.

What Shi Changyuan didn’t give him, Professor Duan would.

The little zombie tilted his head in thought, his gaze starting to wander again. He blinked and suddenly asked, “Can it be anything?”

“Yes, anything.”

“I want to go home. Is that okay too?”

Almost the moment Shi Changyuan’s words fell, Lin Ling’s words came out.

The tone was very light, very airy, as if it were just a casual mention because he really couldn’t think of anything, without any expectation that it would be realized.

The human in front of him was silent for only a second.

“It is.”

Shi Changyuan said to Lin Ling, who wanted to go home, that it was okay.

The little zombie’s eyes instantly lit up.

“There will be a field mission at the end of the month that passes through City B. Lingling can follow us to the mission point first, and then go home when we pass by City B.”

“A field mission?”

When the little zombie heard Shi Changyuan’s words, the first word he caught wasn’t “go home,” but the word “field mission” that he had heard many times before.

And this word was mentioned by everyone when he was inquiring about Shi Changyuan.

“They said that field missions are very dangerous.”

“You should just drop me off at the city gate. I’ll find my way home myself.”

“Is Lingling worried about me?”

Shi Changyuan looked at the little zombie and smiled.

“Of course I’m not worried about you!”

Lin Ling jumped out of bed, puffed out his cheeks, and went to wash up and eat breakfast. While chewing, he secretly observed, feeling that Shi Changyuan was very strange today.

He just agreed to my condition like that?

Something’s not right. I’ll keep watching.

Based on his many experiences of outwitting Shi Changyuan, the little zombie was certain that he was up to some evil scheme and would definitely not let him leave so easily.

Just you wait, I’ll definitely find evidence!

As the little zombie was thinking, he saw Shi Changyuan walk from the living room into the kitchen. His actions were faster than his thoughts, and he followed with a “swoosh,” forgetting all about his breakfast.

“What are you doing?”

The young man popped out from behind Shi Changyuan, craning his neck to see.

Feeling Lin Ling’s head practically resting on his arm, a subconscious intimacy, Shi Changyuan’s movements paused slightly.

“Portioning out Lingling’s nutritional supplement.”

Ever since Lin Ling had drunk the nutritional supplement like a beverage and overdosed, Shi Changyuan had been portioning out all the supplements.

He sealed them in small, transparent bags. The little zombie only needed to pierce them with his sharp fangs to drink.

“So you’ve been the one packing them all this time?”

The little zombie was stunned for a moment, staring blankly at Shi Changyuan.

“Who else?”

Shi Changyuan pinched Lin Ling’s cheek in annoyance.

“If I let someone else do it and they casually took a few drops for testing, the entire lab would be in chaos.”

With that, he deliberately teased the little zombie.

“It’s to guard against curious guys like Lingling.”

“Of course not!”

The little zombie argued, but his outstretched head made his words completely unconvincing.

A typical case of being unreasonable but still acting righteous.

Besides the nutritional supplements being portioned out, the little zombie also looked around at the other things and suddenly found that the once-empty kitchen had many new small items.

Besides the portioning device.

There were also the beautiful cups and plates Lin Ling had bought at the market, in all sorts of colors and patterns.

Sometimes, during lunch, the little zombie would transfer the meal delivered by the little robot onto his own plate and rearrange it.

For example, the newly added microwave, to reheat food for the little zombie who would get distracted halfway through a meal or whose food would get cold because he overslept.

Even the once-empty refrigerator was now filled with nutritional supplements and teething snacks.

On the counter were various sauces that the little zombie liked.

There was even a small pot for the little zombie to cook noodles in the middle of the night when he wanted an extra meal but didn’t want to bother the chef.

It seemed that every aspect of Lin Ling’s life had completely invaded Shi Changyuan’s.

Looking at the entire kitchen, which was almost all for his use, he belatedly realized how much trouble he was to “raise.”

Although he had deliberately caused trouble and destruction at the beginning, later on, it was more about taking advantage of the fact that Shi Changyuan almost never refused him.

The great Zombie Emperor rarely felt a bit embarrassed.

If only Shi Changyuan were also a zombie and could go back with me.

This thought popped into Lin Ling’s mind again.

He lifted his head, carefully studied the human in front of him, and finally let out a sigh.

“What a pity.”

“A pity about what?” Shi Changyuan asked.

“Zombies indirectly infected from ordinary humans rarely become high-tier zombies.”

The great Zombie Emperor, off his guard, blurted out his thoughts, which sounded like a little secret about zombie evolution.

Shi Changyuan’s tone rose slightly, with a hint of interest. He retorted, “Is that what your genes told you too?”

“Yeah.”

After a moment of hesitation, Lin Ling finished his sentence.

“When the virus broke out, some humans who were infected with the zombie virus would directly turn into zombies. Some would have other changes, which might be what you call abilities.”

“The first batch of humans who turned into zombies, from the perspective of the zombie race, their genes were definitely the most suitable.”

“And the genes that produced abilities should be the strongest. Those who turn into zombies are also very powerful.”

“But if they were bitten by a zombie and were only indirectly infected, it means their genes are unpopular among zombies and also unpopular among ability users.”

With that, the little zombie glanced at the ordinary human Shi Changyuan beside him, a visible pity in his eyes. His voice even softened.

“At least, that’s how I understand it.”

But Shi Changyuan didn’t seem affected at all. He smiled and said to Lin Ling, “The conclusions from human research are the same.”

“So, on the way to City B, the great Zombie Emperor must remember to protect this ordinary person.”

“Hmph, now you know how powerful I, the Zombie Emperor, am.”

“If you follow behind me, no zombie will dare to touch you!”

Lin Ling lost himself in the repeated calls of “great Zombie Emperor” and readily agreed.

“Wait.”

The Zombie Emperor’s brain slowly processed.

Something’s not right.

What exactly is not right?

The apocalypse has arrived, and humanity is in crisis.

But what does that have to do with a little zombie?

After eighteen years in hiding, Lin Ling throws off his disguise, ready to run through the streets and celebrate his new position at the top of the food chain.

But the moment he pokes his head out, a cunning human throws a sack over him and carts him away.

Shivering, Lin Ling stares at the mad scientist before him, clad in a white lab coat and holding a syringe. He can already picture his fate on the dissection table.

He trembles and asks tentatively, "Why did you capture me? QAQ"

"You're a stray," the mad scientist replies.

The little zombie is heartbroken. "Do strays have to be captured?"

The man flips through the Novice Pet-Rearing Guide in his hands and offers some comfort. "But you were the liveliest and cutest one in the entire zombie horde."

The mad scientist struggles to think of another reason, then adds, "…One must adopt via abduction."
