Chapter 35
With the annoying relative finally gone, Xia Wansheng felt much more relaxed. He had thought she would resort to some dramatic threats, but it turned out to be just a show of force.
“Don’t mind her words, her methods are unscrupulous, she likes to backstab.” Yu Congyan comforted him.
He couldn’t bring himself to scold his mother, but he didn’t want to be in the same room with her either.
And finally, someone was on his side, so other troublesome matters seemed less significant.
“It’s fine, I don’t care what she says.” Xia Wansheng said nonchalantly.
If Zhai Yan actually tried to backstab him, it would be even better. He could take the hit and trigger a dramatic injury scene, practically a guaranteed reward.
Before the family dinner, Xia Wansheng’s life became very peaceful. Both Villain No. 1 and No. 2 tactfully refrained from disturbing him.
However, an old friend suddenly contacted him, Lu Mingxi, the one Xia Wansheng had given an endorsement opportunity to.
“It’s nothing, you earned that opportunity with your own abilities, otherwise the recommendation wouldn’t have worked.” Xia Wansheng said, declining his offer to visit.
There was no need to fly over just to thank him.
But Lu Mingxi insisted:
“I’m not just coming to see you. I gained some popularity after the last incident, and a record company wants to meet with me. They’ve heard of you too.” Lu Mingxi said respectfully.
As expected, Xia Wansheng was just being modest. When it came to helping his friends, he always went above and beyond. He was truly lucky to have such a friend!
“If you have business here, I’ll pick you up at the airport.” Xia Wansheng considered and agreed.
He didn’t recall having any connections with record companies, but new opportunities were always welcome. He had been busy experimenting with new dishes and desserts recently.
Looking at his successful batch of cat-shaped puddings, he even considered setting up a stall downstairs.
Housekeeper Zhang, standing beside him, coughed repeatedly, almost choking, then, seeing Xia Wansheng mistaking it for a desire for the pudding, quickly waved his hands in refusal.
He had no choice but to be direct: “Mr. Xia, CEO Yu is still working overtime at the company, why don’t you…”
Why don’t you take it to him?
And by the way, show your face at the company, CEO Yu would be very happy to see you.
Of course, as a qualified wingman, he couldn’t say these things directly, it would ruin the surprise.
“Should I take him some?” Xia Wansheng pondered.
This suggestion seemed quite feasible.
Based on his extensive reading experience, in CEO novels, when the delicate little flower mustered the courage to visit the CEO’s company, she would always be stopped by the clueless receptionist, then mocked for her attire, appearance, and hairstyle.
Then he could just turn around and go home, a perfect opportunity for a heartbroken exit.
The system in his mind also wholeheartedly agreed.
Action was taken immediately.
But if he was going, he couldn’t just bring one cat pudding, he had to prepare properly.
“When is Yu Congyan’s birthday?” Xia Wansheng asked while mixing flour.
“Young Master never celebrates his birthday, he doesn’t even allow us to mention it.” Housekeeper Zhang hesitated.
Xia Wansheng, who had been planning to bake a cake, stopped.
He almost forgot, CEOs usually had some tragic backstory associated with their birthdays and never celebrated them with joy.
Until they met their destined partner…then they would gradually emerge from the shadows and open their hearts.
It seemed this plan wouldn’t work.
Xia Wansheng sighed.
He would just make some plain soufflés, not too sweet.
Getting out of the taxi, Xia Wansheng thought he could just drop off the dessert at the reception desk and leave, so he didn’t let the driver go:
“Could you wait for me? I’ll just drop something off and be right back.”
He held up the box as a visual cue.
“Sure, be quick, the meter is running, ten minutes at most.” The driver waved his hand.
Xia Wansheng nodded, thinking this would be quick.
A light autumn rain was falling, but thankfully the distance wasn’t far. Xia Wansheng’s hair was only slightly damp when he arrived at the company entrance.
He hadn’t been sure if carrying a box like this would look suspicious, but everyone seemed busy with their own affairs, no one paying attention to him.
Xia Wansheng breathed a sigh of relief.
See, not everyone was like the female lead in a CEO novel, having their identity exposed at the reception desk and triggering a dramatic confrontation.
The receptionist had a polite smile on her face, answering the phone and handling business.
Xia Wansheng walked over, “Hello, this dessert is for the CEO’s office, Assistant Zhong can sign for it.”
Afraid of triggering some strange plot, he didn’t even mention Yu Congyan’s name.
The box wasn’t transparent, so the receptionist, Qin Sui, nodded without seeing the cat pudding inside.
“Alright, I need to register this, may I know your name?”
Qin Sui hadn’t noticed the person’s appearance earlier, but now, looking up, she felt a sense of familiarity.
Her expression remained unchanged, but she quickly opened her notes app under the desk.
As a competent receptionist, the sudden arrival of the boss’s partners, family, or friends could easily cause a storm.
She always strived to provide them with the best service, ensuring a smooth and pleasant experience. Their satisfaction reflected well on the boss!
“Xia, Xia Wansheng.”
After giving his name, the young man placed the box on the counter, preparing to leave.
Qin Sui quickly located his name in her intricate network of contacts, instantly recalling his story.
Xia Wansheng?!
The one CEO Yu had adjusted several collaborations for, even urgently collaborating with a record company, and they were currently living together!
She had to treat him well!
Just as Xia Wansheng was about to turn and leave, the receptionist called him back.
“Mr. Xia, please sign here.” Qin Sui maintained her professional smile.
As a receptionist, she needed quick hands and a calm demeanor. She had already sent an urgent message to Assistant Zhong. Now, she had to understand their current relationship and stall for time.
“CEO Yu doesn’t have any appointments at the moment, why don’t you go directly to his office and deliver it personally? It’s on the 18th floor.” Qin Sui suggested tentatively.
“No need, just delivering it is fine, I’ll be going now.” Xia Wansheng signed his name and put down the pen.
The taxi driver was still waiting for him across the street.
Seeing him about to leave without hesitation, Qin Sui wondered:
Had some villainous character said something like “who do you think you are, coming here and demanding to see the CEO”?
He must have been mistreated before, otherwise, why would he bring a dessert and not even want to see CEO Yu?
This was a difficult situation. If she let him leave, and CEO Yu came looking for him later, what would she do?
She didn’t want to face the terrifying aura of the big boss.
“Wait!” Qin Sui gritted her teeth and tried again, “Assistant Zhong will be down soon, why don’t you have a seat and I’ll make you some tea?”
Qin Sui didn’t dare to let Xia Wansheng leave without understanding the situation.
Usually, those who came here to deliver things to the CEO, whether relatives or clients, were eager to see him.
But if someone delivered something and left immediately, not even wanting to see the CEO even when she mentioned he was available—
Then this person must be someone the CEO wanted to see!
Qin Sui called this the “Law of Meeting Conservation.”
“No, thank you, I’m in a hurry, but thank you for the offer.” Although Xia Wansheng was puzzled, he was touched by her friendly attitude.
Was Yu Corp’s company culture this welcoming?
Qin Sui maintained her perfect smile, but she knew she couldn’t stall him any longer.
Why wasn’t Assistant Zhong down yet?! Didn’t the CEO’s office have a private elevator?!
Assistant Zhong, who had received the urgent message, was in a meeting. He had been waiting outside in case of emergencies.
Then the message popped up on his phone, and he practically jumped out of his seat.
Qin Sui might not know, but he did, how much the CEO cared about Xia Wansheng.
CEO Yu had suddenly changed his mind and invested in a seemingly hopeless program, even being mocked by Yu Xuan for it.
But thanks to Xia Wansheng’s participation, the program’s reputation and ratings soared, becoming the biggest dark horse of the year.
Now that Xia Wansheng was here, they had to keep him!
“Ding, elevator arriving on the first floor.”
Assistant Zhong quickly adjusted his appearance, preparing to use his exceptional communication skills to handle this situation.
Just as he reached the reception desk, he saw Xia Wansheng about to leave and hurried to stop him:
“Mr. Xia, please wait! CEO Yu is in a meeting, why don’t you go to the lounge and have a seat?”
Seeing him about to speak, afraid he wouldn’t be able to keep him, Assistant Zhong quickly added: “CEO Yu said he has something to discuss with you!”
He would leave the rest to the wise and capable CEO, this was all they could do.
Xia Wansheng glanced at his phone screen, realizing the ten minutes were up.
He wondered if the driver was still waiting.
“Are you in a hurry? If you have anything to take care of, we can help.” Qin Sui chimed in.
She prayed he would go upstairs and see CEO Yu.
“It’s nothing urgent, I just told the taxi driver…”
As Xia Wansheng was hesitating, a notification popped up on his phone, reminding him that the order had ended.
It seemed the driver had left.
Well, since he was already here.
Assistant Zhong breathed a sigh of relief, thinking his bonus was safe.
He couldn’t make the same mistake as before, mistaking the CEO’s concern for annoyance. He would observe carefully and try to help his boss settle down by the end of the year.
Yu Congyan, still in the meeting, suddenly felt a chill. He glanced at the air conditioner, and the representative beside him immediately increased the temperature.
“Continue, I’m listening.” Yu Congyan didn’t relax his expression.
The presenter continued: “CEO Yu, we believe the group’s investment direction this year doesn’t align well with the market. If you want to separate from headquarters, now is the best time.”
Yu Congyan’s mind raced. This opportunity came earlier than he expected.
If he gave up the internal power struggle and started his own company, would Xia Wansheng choose to be on his side?
Peer pressure ftw XD
