Chapter 67
Xia Wansheng wasn’t trying to accuse him, he knew Yu Congyan’s unusual behavior must be related to him.
“Because I was worried about you.” Yu Congyan stepped closer, seeing his troubled expression.
He hadn’t intended to arouse Xia Wansheng’s suspicion, just wanting to be there for him, to lift his spirits, and perhaps make up for some unspoken regrets.
It would have been best if he could silently help Xia Wansheng recover, but the situation was more complicated than he had anticipated.
Just one day of not being a workaholic was enough for Xia Wansheng to notice something was off, even speculating about his motives.
Xia Wansheng was too guarded, pushing him too hard would only backfire.
“I’ll be fine, I’m just not used to this life yet.” Xia Wansheng, feeling his explanation was plausible, relaxed slightly.
As long as Yu Congyan’s company hadn’t gone bankrupt, everything was fine.
He had been worried his decision to stay might have caused some unforeseen consequences, affecting Yu Congyan’s career.
“It’s probably just seasonal affective disorder, it will pass.” Xia Wansheng suddenly remembered the most important question, “You’re not planning to stay here, are you?!”
This was on the outskirts of the city, at least an hour’s drive from Yu Congyan’s company.
This sacrifice was too great, he couldn’t let the CEO normalize working remotely.
“You’re not in a good state right now,” Yu Congyan said slowly, afraid of upsetting him, “Xiang Haichao recommended a renowned psychiatric hospital, are you interested in…”
It was difficult for someone to confront and overcome their past trauma.
But Yu Congyan believed Xia Wansheng could do it, they just needed time.
Xia Wansheng remained silent.
Yu Congyan didn’t dwell on the topic and casually changed the subject, “Remember that amusement park I mentioned? It’s fully operational now, we both have some free time today, why don’t we…”
“I’m not going anywhere.” Xia Wansheng suddenly interrupted, his voice filled with weariness.
He didn’t seem to react differently to the two suggestions.
As if it didn’t matter where they went.
Xia Wansheng stepped back, closer to his bedroom, and said with a forced smile: “Yu Congyan, I knew from the beginning that you’re too kind, you can’t stand seeing people suffer. I was able to complete the mission thanks to your kindness.”
“But there’s no need to go this far. If I don’t agree, are you planning to live here forever? The worst hardship a CEO has ever faced is living in a small apartment without floor heating.” He pointed towards the door.
He knew he wasn’t being truthful, but he was making the right decision.
“I don’t have the energy to argue with you right now, please, just leave, and don’t come back.” He leaned against the bedroom door, his hand on the doorknob trembling slightly.
His heart pounded, a sense of betrayal, the scales tipping.
But he still managed to say the next words, “You asked me before if I had feelings for anyone, I can tell you now.”
Yu Congyan tried to approach him, but he couldn’t stop him from speaking.
“I was delusional, he just saved my life, and I actually expected more.” Xia Wansheng turned the doorknob, wanting to retreat into his bedroom.
It was over.
But he couldn’t escape. Yu Congyan was faster.
The door had barely opened a crack when his wrist was firmly grasped.
“Ow… let go of me!”
Yu Congyan’s grip was tight, unlike his usual gentleness. He slammed the door shut.
He even forced Xia Wansheng to lock the door himself, his grip on his wrist still firm.
Xia Wansheng struggled, only to be pushed against the door.
“Not going anywhere?”
Yu Congyan’s tall figure loomed over him, his eyes filled with an intensity Xia Wansheng had never seen before, a cold and powerful aura surrounding him, his voice icy,
“We can do it here.”
Xia Wansheng was terrified, his trapped wrist powerless, he instinctively closed his eyes.
Was he really going to die here?
Couldn’t he at least ask for consent…
The more he thought about it, the more aggrieved he felt. He was doing this for his own good, no CEO should have a two-hour commute.
And perhaps Yu Congyan had simply mistaken the adrenaline-fueled anxiety for genuine affection. He was just helping him realize the truth.
How did things escalate to this point?
Xia Wansheng tried to move back, but he was trapped against the solid wooden door, Yu Congyan clearly enraged by his words.
All he could do was close his eyes.
He waited nervously for a few seconds, but his clothes weren’t torn open.
Just a fleeting kiss on his forehead.
Yu Congyan even loosened his grip slightly, his restraint gentle.
“You’ve mistaken cause and effect,” he looked down at him,
Seeing the redness in the corners of his eyes, his voice softened, “I don’t like you because I’m habitually worried about you.”
“It’s because I like you that I want to be with you, worried you might encounter some accident when I’m not around, that I won’t be there in time.” He released Xia Wansheng’s wrist, gently rubbing it.
“Sometimes I think, perhaps it would be better if you returned to your world. Although I would never see you again, you might be happier there.” He reached out, wanting to touch the corner of his eye, then retracted his hand.
“So, what you said before about staying in this world…were those all lies?”
Yu Congyan leaned in closer, trapping Xia Wansheng between himself and the door, demanding an answer.
Xia Wansheng didn’t speak, but he didn’t move either.
After this, he no longer had the energy to retreat into his bedroom and wallow in his emotions.
But he couldn’t speak, his mind still reeling from the fleeting kiss, struggling to form words.
Fine.
After a long silence, as if finally relenting, Xia Wansheng stood on his tiptoes, pulled Yu Congyan down by the neck, and kissed him.
His lips were soft.
“!!!”
Yu Congyan’s eyes widened, his heart pounding.
This bold action was a clear answer to his question.
“I just said that casually, did you really have to call me out on it…” After the kiss, Xia Wansheng acted as if nothing had happened, releasing his hold on his neck, nudging his collarbone, signaling him to move, he was feeling a bit suffocated.
He even noticed a smudge on his sleeve, “You have some dirt on your sleeve…mm!”
He was met with a passionate and urgent kiss.
