Chapter 80: Extra – IF Route – If This Were a Cat Story
Everything proceeded as normal. Xia Wansheng opened his eyes and found himself transmigrated.
Transmigrated into the CEO’s cat.
The contract was dangling from his mouth. Yu Congyan, who had forgotten to close the window, froze, trying to coax the cat back inside.
Xia Wansheng, as a cat, was overjoyed: Nine lives! Woohoo!
He released the document, letting it fall freely out the window, judging by the sound, it probably wouldn’t cause any major damage.
Then he turned and waved his paw at the stunned Yu Congyan, like a beckoning cat, and darted towards freedom.
Just as he was about to jump—
He was scooped up mid-air.
The sudden momentum made Yu Congyan stumble and hit the wall with a thud, but his hold on the cat was gentle, afraid of scaring it.
Seeing his escape thwarted, the cat was displeased and was about to scratch this human who didn’t understand the concept of feline freedom when he was lifted and turned upside down.
Yu Congyan checked the little tabby carefully, making sure there were no new injuries, then, relieved, held him close.
Xia Wansheng’s ears were sharp, and as a curious kitty, he could sense the changes in the person’s emotions.
Now that he was safe, Yu Congyan’s aura calmed.
Surrounded by a warm and comforting presence, the cat felt sleepy, yawning and nuzzling against Yu Congyan’s chest, raising a paw to indicate he wanted to sleep.
A soft chuckle came from above. Yu Congyan seemed to gently scratch the tip of his ear, whispering goodnight.
The office staff noticed their CEO had recently become a cat owner.
His usually impeccable suits occasionally had cat hair on them, and a visit to the veterinary clinic suddenly appeared on Assistant Zhong’s schedule for him.
After confirming their company had no dealings with pet products, Assistant Zhong, carrying the hopes of the entire company, finally asked Yu Congyan: “CEO Yu, did you get a cat?”
Yu Congyan looked up from his spreadsheets, his tone pleased, “Isn’t it obvious?”
He had practically devoured all information on cat care and gourmet cat food, he was just short of showing off his new cat to everyone at the company.
So the rumors were true! Assistant Zhong perked up, “CEO Yu, I also have a cat, let me know if you have any questions!”
A godsend opportunity for a raise, he would give his orange tabby an extra treat tonight.
Yu Congyan pondered for a moment, “I do have a question.”
“Ask away, I know a bit about cat care, and I have a friend who owns a pet store, they’re very knowledgeable.”
“Does your cat like bungee jumping?” Yu Congyan asked.
“Like…bungee jumping?!” Assistant Zhong was dumbfounded.
How did the topic shift to this?
After the near-fatal incident of his cat almost falling out the window, Yu Congyan had implemented strict safety measures.
But he noticed his cat seemed listless, barely touching its food, lying around like a pancake.
Then, one day, he brought home a three-meter-tall cat tree, and he truly witnessed his cat’s love for jumping from high places.
But to be safe, he placed thick blankets and cushions around it. Although his cat seemed displeased, pawing at them, it still used the cat tree, its mood visibly improving, even eating more.
Yu Congyan thought the problem was solved, but one day, while he was in his study, his cat pushed open the door with its head.
It gracefully jumped onto his desk, scratching the polished wood, then tugging at his sleeve, signaling him to go to the living room.
Yu Congyan, puzzled, carried his cat out and saw Aunt Liu knitting while watching a documentary.
The documentary showed bungee jumpers leaping from dizzying heights, the camera zooming out to emphasize the danger.
“You… want to go bungee jumping?” Yu Congyan hesitated, then realized how ridiculous his question sounded, “The Cat Care Guide” didn’t mention this.
“But you’re a cat, your physique can’t handle the impact, you’ll get injured.” He tried to reason with his cat.
The cat in his arms started struggling. Yu Congyan lost his grip and it darted into the half-open bedroom. He quickly followed, wondering how to appease it.
As he entered and reached for the light switch, he felt a warm weight against his chest and instinctively stepped back, the door slamming shut behind him.
Xia Wansheng turned on the lights, his figure slender and graceful, but still not quite used to his human form, instinctively wanting to hug Yu Congyan, “Can I go bungee jumping now?”
Yu Congyan froze.
Chapter 81: Extra – Wedding
In most stories, the wedding is often presented as a grand and happy ending.
The protagonists, witnessed by their loved ones, embark on a new chapter of their lives.
But, after much deliberation, they felt their circle of friends wasn’t large enough to warrant a big celebration, and they wanted to enjoy their lives freely, so they decided to elope.
When Yu Congyan arranged his annual leave, everyone had already guessed the reason.
Some bolder employees even joked, “CEO Yu, you won’t forget about us while you’re on your honeymoon, will you?”
“Not necessarily.” Yu Congyan replied, his mood bright.
He received many well wishes as he left the company. Everyone was pleased their CEO had finally found love, and they worked even harder.
There would surely be generous bonuses if they performed well during this period.
Xia Wansheng planned to write a song inspired by their travels. Although he knew Yu Congyan was tone-deaf, they had the patience to perfect it together.
Listening to the echoes of music amidst the fir trees in Sicily, Italy; Taking pictures with swans by Lake Päijänne in Finland; Observing a lone dandelion on the Hulunbuir grasslands in Manzhouli…
As their travel album filled with memories, the song also neared completion.
Their last stop was Digeri Island beach.
After writing the final note, Xia Wansheng put down his pen, satisfied, and proudly showed the finished score to Yu Congyan, then, hearing the occasional off-key humming, chuckled and said:
“I’ll sing it for you.”
After all, they were meant to be.
-The End-
