Recently, due to a bug when splitting chapters, it was only possible to upload using whole numbers, which is why recent releases ended up with a higher chapter number than the actual chapter number. The chapters already uploaded and their respective novels can no longer be fixed unless we edit and re-upload them chapter by chapter(Chapters content are okay, just the number in the list is incorrect), but that would take a lot of time. Therefore, those uploaded in that way will remain as they are. The bug has been fixed(lasted 1 day), as seen with the recently uploaded novels, which can be split into parts and everything works as usual. From now on, all new content will be uploaded in correct order as before the bug happens. If time permits in the future, we may attempt to reorganize the previously affected chapters.

The Overworked Beta and the Paranoid Alpha 14

Chapter 14: Used Too Much Force

“Do you know what it means for me and Claire to send out this message?”

Romeo said in shock.

“You don’t need to worry. Della and I will handle the security issues,” Wen En said. “What’s wrong? You don’t trust our abilities?”

“Or do you think you have other options?” Wen En looked meaningfully at the Alpha in front of him and said, “Is offending F.I.A.D. a better choice than offending the wealthy people who buy expensive antiques from you?”

“Of course not.”

Romeo picked up his coffee and took a sip, only to find that the cup was empty. Damn it, his heart was beating fast, but he needed more caffeine to stimulate his brain and make the most advantageous decision.

“Can I have another cup of coffee?” Romeo asked.

“Of course,” Wen En said.

Wen En raised his hand. The waitress saw him, put down her cloth, and came over. “Sir, what can I get for you?”

“Two more coffees, please. Thank you.”

“Oh, of course. Just a moment,” the waitress said, picking up the pot of coffee she had brewed not long ago and pouring it into the cups in front of them.

“Thank you,” Wen En said again.

The waitress smiled politely and said with great service spirit, “Just let me know if you need anything else.” With that, she went back to her other tasks.

“Have you made up your mind?” Wen En asked.

Damn it…

Romeo really didn’t want to get involved in this mess, even though he was partly responsible for it.

“I…”

Romeo took a deep breath. He grabbed the freshly filled coffee cup and downed it in one gulp.

Then he was scalded by the eighty-degree Celsius hot coffee. Involuntarily, he spat out a mouthful of coffee.

Wen En, who was sitting right in front of him, smiled, gritted his teeth, and clenched his fists.

This little idiot spat coffee all over his face!

Romeo: …oops, I’ve done it again.

Seeing Wen En’s face darken, like the prelude to a thunderstorm, Romeo knew he was in trouble. He had to quickly divert Wen En’s attention, or at least say something that would slightly improve his mood.

The only thing that could slightly improve Wen En’s mood was…

Romeo gritted his teeth. He thought, This is a problem I have to face. “Alright, Wen En.”

He suddenly stood up and said loudly, “I’ll do as you say.”

Hearing his words, Wen En’s expression softened a little.

“I know. Sit down first,” he said, pulling out a napkin to wipe the coffee stains from his face.

No, he’s being too calm about this, Romeo thought. Just then, a ringtone sounded. “Just a moment, I need to take a call,” Wen En said, taking out his communicator from his jacket pocket and putting it to his ear.

“Ronnie, you can go back now. Yes, he doesn’t need to go to K9 prison for now. Hahaha, okay, I’ll visit you next time I’m free.” Wen En glanced at Romeo and said, “Oh, then come on in. I’ll buy you a coffee.”

He hung up the phone. The next second, a burly man wearing a metal exoskeleton walked into the shop, bringing with him a pungent Alpha pheromone scent.

The burly man stopped beside Wen En.

“Hahahaha, Wen En, long time no see,” Ronnie laughed loudly, his broad palm slapping Wen En’s back with great force.

Wen En closed his eyes, almost getting knocked over.

Ronnie was his comrade from his time in the Central Army. Later, Ronnie had suffered a severe spinal injury and had to retire a year early. He then went to work at the prison on K9 Planet.

The two chatted for a while before Ronnie’s gaze fell on Romeo, who was sitting in front of Wen En. Ronnie sized him up for a moment. “Is it him?”

“Yes, it’s him,” Wen En said.

Romeo: …

Don’t do this, he’s a little scared.

Wen En had the waitress pour another cup of coffee for Ronnie. Ronnie grabbed the cup and downed it in one gulp. The scalding hot, freshly brewed coffee filled his mouth, but Ronnie didn’t even blink as he swallowed it all.

This… won’t this burn his esophagus? Romeo looked on in shock.

Ronnie laughed loudly a few more times and said, “Look at this kid. He doesn’t look like a bad person.”

Wen En shrugged.

Then, the cup was slammed onto the table with a “bang—.” “But he looks like a rebellious kid.”

Romeo’s eyes widened, and he was speechless.

“Kid, do you know how the prison guards treat rebellious prisoners?” Ronnie’s voice was as heavy as marble.

Romeo shook his head.

“Just like on the nightly news,” Wen En said, holding back a laugh.

“That’s right,” Ronnie said, grabbing Romeo by the collar. “So, you’d better grow up, kid. Don’t do anything stupid, understand?”

Romeo nodded frantically.

“Good. Have fun on K9 Planet,” Ronnie said, releasing Romeo’s collar. He fist-bumped Wen En and turned to leave.

Watching Ronnie disappear, Romeo was first shocked, then felt like he had been played.

“Didn’t I agree to cooperate with you?” Romeo stood up, feeling both shocked and angry at Wen En and Ronnie’s tag-team act.

“Ronnie said it would be too boring to come all this way and do nothing,” Wen En said with a raised eyebrow.

“You saw him. He’s a big guy. Even with the exoskeleton, he’s a tough one to handle. I couldn’t stop him.”

Is not being able to stop him the same as not stopping him at all?! Romeo gritted his teeth in anger, but he was the one who truly couldn’t do anything to Wen En.

And Wen En didn’t seem to take him seriously at all. Wen En couldn’t even be bothered to give him more than a glance. He called the waitress over, paid the bill and left a tip, then finally looked at him and said, “Let’s go. We’ll go back and rest. We’ll talk about everything else tomorrow.”

Romeo glared at Wen En, like a rebellious teenager who had been ignored. Honestly, he was really angry!!!

“Let’s go,” seeing that Romeo hadn’t followed, Wen En frowned and looked back. “What are you dawdling for?”

“…”

Hmph. Romeo followed, but he had no intention of speaking to Wen En for the time being. He wanted to let Wen En know that silent resistance was also a form of resistance.

Silence is resistance.

Romeo thought this was an excellent strategy. The only flaw was that Wen En didn’t seem to have noticed his intentions at all…

From the moment they got into the taxi, Wen En’s gaze had not lingered on him once. Wen En seemed to have already determined that he wouldn’t run.

He really “trusts” him, Romeo thought. But he would absolutely not give up on escaping. After he successfully escaped, he would definitely make Wen En pay!

Romeo: “Hmph!”

Wen En, completely unaware of Romeo’s inner world: ???

At that moment, the communicator rang again. Wen En took it out and put it to his ear. “…Mm, I understand.” From time to time, he would respond to the other end of the line with the briefest of words.

Who was he talking to? Romeo stared at the communicator by Wen En’s ear, suddenly interested.

He observed Wen En. Wen En was looking down, his gaze on the rapidly moving road outside the car window, not paying any particular attention to him.

Romeo quickly came up with an idea.

He pinched the button on his cuff and, with a little effort, separated the button from the thread. He flicked it lightly, and the button fell next to Wen En’s shoe.

…oops, used too much force.

He had intended for the button to land gently on the floor so he could bend down to pick it up and eavesdrop on Wen En’s conversation. He hadn’t expected to mess it up.

Wen En said, “Mm,” and his gaze shifted from the scenery outside the window to Romeo’s face.

“My button fell off,” Romeo said, moving closer to Wen En and bending down to pick up the button.

Just as his fingertips were about to touch the gray button, a black shoe stepped on it. Romeo looked up. Wen En was looking at him with a warning gaze, while still responding to the other end of the call, “Fine, that works too.”

Wen En’s warning gaze was like a lighter, igniting the rebellious flame in Romeo’s mind. Whatever Wen En didn’t want him to do, he would do.

So, he narrowed his eyes, and in the split second that Wen En’s attention was briefly diverted, he reached out with lightning speed and snatched the communicator Wen En was using.

A chapter unlocks every Monday and Thursday .
Wen En, the number one special agent in the galaxy, is a Beta. With his handsome and elegant mixed-race features and a tall, powerful physique, he was prime material for hard labor. Until one day, he gave up his vacation to accept a mission from his superior. The mission required him to team up with an Alpha named Romeo Solstice. Wen En agreed. But his Alpha teammate had other ideas. Romeo: Did you know that "teammate" is just another word for "wife"? Wen En (expressionless): No, and I don't want to know. Romeo: Darling, I must have a long talk with you all night to explain the details. At that, Wen En raised his rock-hard fist: Say one more noisy word and see what happens??? Romeo (clutching his face and wailing): I give, I give up!!!! Wen En: A cold smile. Romeo: But, darling, I think I've fallen in love with you... Wen En: ...???
Romeo Solstice, like all villains in film and television, had a tragic childhood. Unloved by his fathers, he engaged in wrongdoing, and his infamy spread far and wide. He had a "white moonlight," also a Beta, who was gentle and considerate, bestowing the radiance of love upon his younger self. Therefore, looking at this rock-hard Beta named Wen En before him, Romeo felt displeasure in his heart and disdain on his face. He thought: A person like you can be considered a Beta? Who would have thought that one day, he would develop a high fever due to his rut, and in a daze, he would see Wen En's face overlapping with that of his "white moonlight." He thought dazedly: Back then, that person... it was you... He caressed Wen En's face and gently leaned in for a kiss. And then he was sent flying by a punch. Wen En (landing a punch): Would you please sober up!!! Romeo: ...So painful. But why did that punch make his heart race...?
