The Overworked Beta and the Paranoid Alpha 25

Chapter 25: Revenge on Me?

Peter’s interest was piqued. “Let’s hear it.”
So Romeo recounted the events of the past few days, skillfully adding embellishments and twisting the facts to shift all the blame onto Claire and Wen En, leaving himself completely innocent.
The events were indeed as he described, but it sounded a bit strange. Wen En frowned as he listened.
“So that’s how it is,” Peter said, feigning shock. “It seems you’ve suffered quite a bit these past few days.”
Peter made a gesture. The person behind Romeo put away his gun and returned to Peter’s side. “So, my dear Romeo, what do you want to do?”
“Revenge, of course,” Romeo walked up to Wen En, his face filled with anger. “You despicable scumbag, I’m going to make you pay the price you deserve!” He grabbed the back of Wen En’s head, forcing him to look up, and said fiercely, “Did you hear what I said?”
Wen En: …
Enough. The acting is too over the top, like the protagonist of a melodramatic soap opera in the eight o’clock primetime slot.
But it had to be said, at the beginning, Romeo’s exaggerated acting was quite impactful. It had actually fooled Wen En, making him really believe that Romeo was going to betray him.
Until just now, when Romeo had grabbed the back of Wen En’s head and, in the process, stuck a cold patch deep on the back of his neck.
At first, Wen En didn’t realize what it was, until a notification popped up on his smart glasses:
“Nano-protective armor connection successful. Initiating. Thirty, twenty-nine, twenty-eight…”
This was a product developed by F.I.A.D.’s research department, a protective outer membrane made of nano-tech particles that was bulletproof and heat-resistant to a certain extent. The downside was that it took thirty seconds to activate.
“Twenty, nineteen, eighteen…”
The activation countdown continued. Wen En looked up, his tone filled with contempt. “Revenge on me?”
Wen En sneered and said, “Come on. I’d like to see what you’ll do.”
“What’s with that attitude?” Romeo grabbed the collar in front of Wen En’s clavicle, feigning anger.
“I mean, I know you won’t do anything to me,” Wen En said. “This isn’t the first time you’ve pulled something like this.”
Ethan, or Wen En, tilted his head up and sneered, as if he was used to Romeo’s antics.
He was heard saying, “I know what you’re thinking, my dear Romeo. No one knows you better than I do. You’re just a pathetic creature with an extreme need for attention. Everything you do is just to get my attention. It’s clear you’ve succeeded, so what are you still dissatisfied about?”
“…”
Everyone present fell silent, their ears pricked up, afraid of missing the climax of this drama. Peter was no exception. He reached out his left hand to take the concentrated coffee Qiuyue handed him, but his eyes remained fixed on Wen En and Romeo, never moving away.
Qiuyue pursed his lips in dissatisfaction. Was the scene over there that interesting? Peter was so engrossed that he didn’t even say thank you.
Romeo took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled. Just as Wen En thought he was about to lose his temper, he suddenly leaned in close to Wen En’s ear and whispered, “That was harsh.”
Wen En raised an eyebrow. He was about to say, “Weren’t you the one who started it?” But Romeo’s next words silenced him.
Romeo whispered, “You’re getting me excited.”
Seriously? Have Alphas become such animals? Can they get excited from being mocked and insulted?
Just then, Wen En’s glasses prompted, “Three, two, one, protective armor generation complete.”
Finally… Wen En breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he thought he was finally done with playing along with Romeo’s melodrama, Romeo’s actions took him by surprise.
Those soft lips pressed against his chin. Then, Wen En felt the sharp canine teeth of the Alpha brushing against his lips.
“…”
Everyone present gasped. No, why are they kissing?
Wen En’s eyes widened. For a moment, he was completely stunned. He had never expected Romeo to pull such a move.
Just as his mind was in a mess, a nimble hand reached into his flight jacket. Wen En immediately snapped out of his shock. Before he could figure out what Romeo was up to, he felt a soft click from the gun at his waist.
Wen En understood. Romeo had just released the safety on his gun.
The kiss was just a feint. A feint to distract Peter and the others.
Romeo broke the kiss. He looked at Wen En. This time, his eyes were filled with trust, and some other emotions.
“The rest is up to you.”

“The rest is up to you.”
Romeo’s words echoed in his ears. The words turned into a drumstick, striking deep into Wen En’s mind.
Romeo took a few steps back. Just then, Wen En suddenly stood up.
“Hey, sit down!” The person standing behind Wen En, pointing a gun at his head, shouted.
Wen En turned his head and glanced at him.
As the saying goes, a biting dog doesn’t bark. Wen En wouldn’t make a sound before striking, so as not to alert the enemy.
“Ah—”
The man let out a miserable cry. In an instant, Wen En had grabbed his wrist and, like wringing a cloth, twisted it three hundred and eighty degrees, dislocating his arm and joints.
“Damn it, don’t move!”
The others all stood up, raised their guns, and charged towards Wen En. Bullets flew from the barrels, heading for Wen En. But Wen En, as if he had already anticipated it, grabbed the man’s shoulder and pulled him in front of him, using him as a human shield.
The man let out a few tragic screams, then his head lolled to the side, his eyes rolling back. His soul had fallen into hell in an instant, but he was still standing, supported by Wen En behind him.
“Damn it,” Peter cursed under his breath, looking at the chaos. “Cover me. Get me out of here.”
Qiuyue nodded. He pushed the suitcase towards Peter. Peter caught it and ran towards the door.
“Don’t go!” Romeo ran over to stop him.
He had only taken two steps when Qiuyue pulled out his gun and fired several shots at Romeo’s chest. But after firing two shots, he realized something was wrong.
Qiuyue stared at Romeo in shock. Why was there no sign of bleeding?
—Because he had secretly put on his nano-protective armor.
Seeing Qiuyue’s eyes about to pop out in shock, Romeo rolled his eyes a hundred times internally. What, did he look like the kind of idiot who would rush in recklessly without any regard for his own life?
I have to teach this Omega named Qiuyue a lesson, Romeo thought, his hands not stopping. He raised his gun and fired several shots at Qiuyue.
Unfortunately, Qiuyue did not go down as he had hoped. Having worked by Peter’s side for years, the daily life in the gray area had honed his intuition to an extreme level of alertness. He did not linger in shock for too long. Before his eyes could react, his body subconsciously dodged sideways, successfully avoiding the bullets.
But Peter, who was not far behind Qiuyue, and Charles in the suitcase were not so lucky.
Two bullets, one of which went straight through Peter’s calf, and the other hit the lower left corner of the suitcase.
Peter was just one step away from leaving the room, but he fell face-first from the bullet in his calf.
Charles in the suitcase next to him was not much better off. Blood gushed from the bullet hole on the surface of the suitcase like a newly tapped spring.
Charles’s mouth was tightly sealed with plastic tape, so he couldn’t speak, but a pained groan still escaped from his throat, passed through the suitcase, and reached the ears of the others.
Peter scrambled to his feet, turned his head, and roared at Qiuyue, “Didn’t I tell you to cover me?!”
Qiuyue was surprised. “Ah, sorry, boss.”
What could he do? He didn’t have superpowers. He couldn’t control the direction of the bullets.
Romeo: “Opps…”
Romeo turned his head and shouted to Wen En, who was engaged in a gunfight with the criminals with an advanced military laser weapon:
“What are the consequences if Charles accidentally dies?”
Wen En fired three shots at a criminal who was charging at him, blowing his head to pieces, before replying, “That would make our follow-up work much more difficult!”
“Alright,” Romeo turned his head, aimed his gun at Peter again, and said:
“Then I can only wish him good luck.”

Wen En, the number one special agent in the galaxy, is a Beta. With his handsome and elegant mixed-race features and a tall, powerful physique, he was prime material for hard labor. Until one day, he gave up his vacation to accept a mission from his superior. The mission required him to team up with an Alpha named Romeo Solstice. Wen En agreed. But his Alpha teammate had other ideas. Romeo: Did you know that "teammate" is just another word for "wife"? Wen En (expressionless): No, and I don't want to know. Romeo: Darling, I must have a long talk with you all night to explain the details. At that, Wen En raised his rock-hard fist: Say one more noisy word and see what happens??? Romeo (clutching his face and wailing): I give, I give up!!!! Wen En: A cold smile. Romeo: But, darling, I think I've fallen in love with you... Wen En: ...???
Romeo Solstice, like all villains in film and television, had a tragic childhood. Unloved by his fathers, he engaged in wrongdoing, and his infamy spread far and wide. He had a "white moonlight," also a Beta, who was gentle and considerate, bestowing the radiance of love upon his younger self. Therefore, looking at this rock-hard Beta named Wen En before him, Romeo felt displeasure in his heart and disdain on his face. He thought: A person like you can be considered a Beta? Who would have thought that one day, he would develop a high fever due to his rut, and in a daze, he would see Wen En's face overlapping with that of his "white moonlight." He thought dazedly: Back then, that person... it was you... He caressed Wen En's face and gently leaned in for a kiss. And then he was sent flying by a punch. Wen En (landing a punch): Would you please sober up!!! Romeo: ...So painful. But why did that punch make his heart race...?
