Chapter 43 Part 1
Being controlled by desire wasn’t a good thing, Shi Xu thought rationally, even as he sank deeper into Gu Sui’s embrace.
But his body, against his better judgment, craved the intimacy, becoming addicted.
Having opened his heart to Gu Sui, surrendering completely, the experience became increasingly exhilarating.
He enjoyed it, the feeling of their bodies intertwined, his defenses breached, completely possessed by Gu Sui.
…
At 2 am, Little Black and Sui Sui were asleep.
Shi Xu had prepared a nursery for Sui Sui, complete with a crib and toys, but Sui Sui, like his big dad, didn’t like his own room.
When he couldn’t sleep with Shi Xu, he slept with Little Black.
Little Black’s bed was big enough for a cat, but with Sui Sui, who was roughly the same size, it was a bit cramped.
Little Black was a good-natured cat, not minding sharing its bed, even using its body to warm Sui Sui’s exposed tummy, its tail gently patting Sui Sui’s back whenever he babbled in his sleep.
No toy was as effective as Little Black at soothing him.
Shi Xu tucked the blanket around them, imitating a scene from his memory, gently patting Sui Sui’s back.
It was his first time putting a child to sleep, but his movements were surprisingly natural.
Sui Sui was a well-behaved baby, making his first experience as a parent surprisingly pleasant.
If he hadn’t seen the golden egg himself, he wouldn’t have believed Sui Sui hatched from it. Aside from his small size, he looked like a normal human infant.
Housekeeper Zhou’s words troubled him.
He didn’t know if Sui Sui was the same egg his sister found. Regardless of the answer, he faced many questions—
Was Sui Sui harmless?
Could he really manipulate people’s minds?
Would he harm him and Gu Sui in the future?
Gu Sui’s footsteps were light, but Shi Xu still sensed his presence.
Gu Sui embraced him from behind, his chin resting on his shoulder, his hand covering Shi Xu’s, joining him in patting the sleeping child.
“I… was scared… when I… woke up… and didn’t see… Wife,” Gu Sui’s lips brushed against his ear, making him shiver.
Shi Xu scoffed. “You get scared?”
Gu Sui’s arm around his waist tightened, his voice even more pitiful. “Yes, I’m… scared… when Wife… is not… with me…”
He sounded convincing.
Remembering Housekeeper Zhou’s words, Shi Xu patted Gu Sui’s arm. Gu Sui understood, helping him stand up.
They sat on the sofa, Gu Sui still holding him, pulling him onto his lap.
Shi Xu didn’t resist, covering Gu Sui’s mouth with his hand when he leaned in for a kiss, pushing his head against the sofa.
“I need to talk to you.”
His tone was serious. Gu Sui’s playful demeanor instantly vanished. “Wife, tell… me.”
Shi Xu couldn’t help but chuckle. Gu Sui smiled, then, seeing Shi Xu’s smile disappear, quickly mirrored his expression.
He was better at mimicking than a monkey.
Shi Xu, no longer teasing him, recounted his conversation with Housekeeper Zhou.
“Pollutants can’t completely fulfill human wishes,” Gu Sui said.
Shi Xu frowned. “Then what about that pollutant?”
Gu Sui sighed. “Your sister’s boyfriend was deceived. That pollutant was cunning. It was only F-class when it met him, too weak to forcefully parasitize him, so it used lies.”
“But,” he continued, “it wasn’t entirely a lie. Pollutants with illusion abilities can create illusions for humans. Perhaps it let him see your sister one last time before he died.”
Paying with his life, just to see her again.
To many, it was a bad trade, but to Ah Cheng, losing himself in that fabricated dream was better than living without her.
Shi Xu thought of Zhao Huihuang, who, like Ah Cheng, willingly embraced death.
He wouldn’t have understood them before, but now, he understood a little.
Gu Sui leaned closer, his nose rubbing against Shi Xu’s cheek, his voice still hoarse from their earlier activities. “I… won’t let… Wife… suffer like that… I’ll… protect you… and myself… We’ll be… together… for a long time… until the end…”
His words, beautiful and sincere, touched even Shi Xu’s hardened heart.
“That’s nice, but you seem to have forgotten that your power is still sealed.”
Qi Yu was right. He wasn’t romantic.
He should have played along, letting the romantic atmosphere build, but he chose to break it.
Gu Sui’s lips thinned, remembering the past, his voice filled with sadness. “Wife… so cruel… If I… wasn’t careful… I wouldn’t have… escaped… The thought… of not seeing… Wife again… made me… so sad… Wuwuwu…”
Tears welled up in his eyes.
Having seen Gu Sui cry countless times, Shi Xu still couldn’t remain indifferent.
He still didn’t understand how a 6’4″ man could cry so convincingly.
He couldn’t bring himself to be annoyed, wanting to comfort him instead. He patted Gu Sui’s head, addressing the issue directly for the first time.
“I didn’t know you then. I was the captain of the Anomaly Management Bureau. My duty was to eliminate pollutants and Variants. You were my target. I couldn’t show you mercy.” He hesitated, then added, “Sorry, for making you sad.”
Gu Sui’s tears instantly vanished, replaced by a bright smile. If not for the lingering moisture on his cheeks, Shi Xu would have thought he imagined it.
“Wife… no need… to apologize… I’m not… angry… I trained… for seven years… to protect… Wife… And because… of my efforts… I survived… and now… I’m with Wife… I’m so happy…” He nuzzled Shi Xu’s chest.
Shi Xu: “…”
He knew it. Gu Sui’s sadness was just an act.
He didn’t need comfort, healing himself instantly.
Shi Xu patted his head, stopping his antics. Gu Sui looked up at him, his eyes filled with anticipation. “Wife, back then… I was… your target… What am I… now?”
Shi Xu hadn’t considered this before, but the answer came to him instantly.
He wrapped his arm around Gu Sui’s neck, his finger tracing his still swollen lips, the marks from their earlier kiss lingering, his eyes lifting slightly, capturing Gu Sui’s heart with a single glance.
“What do you think?” he countered.
Gu Sui swallowed, his lips capturing Shi Xu’s finger, not releasing it, wanting to draw it into his mouth.
“Tell me,” Shi Xu’s finger moved, escaping his lips, tracing them instead.
Gu Sui stared at him, his breathing ragged. “If… Wife… doesn’t tell me… I don’t know…”
Shi Xu: “Don’t you have telepathy? Aren’t you good at reading my mind?”
Gu Sui: “I… want… to hear… Wife… say it…”
Shi Xu leaned closer, his lips brushing against Gu Sui’s ear.
“Who am I to you?” He chuckled softly, his voice a low murmur. “My… hus… band.”
Gu Sui’s breath hitched, his arm around Shi Xu’s waist tightening. He cupped Shi Xu’s face, leaning in for a kiss, but Shi Xu stopped him.
Gu Sui looked at him helplessly. “Wife… want… kiss…”
Only Gu Sui had fallen into the trap of desire. Shi Xu remained clear-headed, his eyes, no longer soft, turning cold and captivating.
“We’re not finished yet.”
Gu Sui whined, “Wife!”
How could he be so cruel?
Teasing him, then denying him!
Shi Xu ignored his complaints. “Can golden eggs manipulate people’s minds?”
Gu Sui’s lips thinned, his gaze reproachful, refusing to answer.
Shi Xu caressed his face, smiling. “Answer my question, and I’ll reward you.”
Gu Sui’s eyes instantly lit up. “I… don’t know.”
Shi Xu’s expression turned serious. “You don’t know?”
Gu Sui: “I was in the rift for many years, but I only saw a golden egg once, and I didn’t touch it. I don’t know what it can do.”
Seeing Shi Xu’s troubled expression, he asked, “What’s wrong? Is there something wrong with Sui Sui?”
Shi Xu told him about his sister and the golden egg. Gu Sui listened in silence.
Shi Xu waited patiently. “I… don’t know… what happened… I don’t know… if that egg… was Sui Sui… If it was… what will… you do?”
“Nothing.” Shi Xu leaned against his shoulder, closing his eyes. “I thought about it. That egg didn’t harm my sister. It protected her.”
The egg’s appearance gave his sister the courage to defy Shi Yan.
Even though she ultimately failed to escape, she had tried, she had chosen freedom.
“My sister’s death was Shi Yan’s fault. The egg was just a catalyst…” Even without the egg, as long as Shi Yan lived, she would have met a tragic end.
He couldn’t blame the egg.
Perhaps it was like Pandora’s Box, unleashing uncontrollable greed upon those who touched it.
“I hope Sui Sui is that egg,” Shi Xu smiled faintly.
At least, it was the last thing his sister left behind, the thing she protected with her life.
He hoped it was true. He would protect it for her.
Shi Xu wasn’t talkative. In their relationship, Gu Sui was the one who always chattered. His silence was noticeable.
Shi Xu looked up, seeing Gu Sui lost in thought. He grabbed his wrist.
“What are you thinking?”
I think it’s highly likely that Sui Sui is that egg personally 🥚🥚🥚
