Chapter 34
A vast expanse of fiery red bloomed deep within the clouds of the setting sun, dyeing even the car window with its brilliance.
Bai Yan gripped the door handle and pulled the car door open.
He was about to greet Uncle Zhao as usual when he saw the spacious back seat and his eyes widened in disbelief.
With a bang, without warning, the young man immediately threw the car door shut, dropped a “Please wait!” and hastily turned to run back to the milk tea shop.
Cheng Jiayan was sitting on a swivel chair in front of the counter. Before she could even take out her phone, she heard the wind chimes at the door jingle.
The young man who had just left had lightly leaped up the steps and trotted back.
The Omega’s small face was flushed, the corners of his eyes and brows filled with an irrepressible smile. The hem of his clean white shirt was lifted by the wind, like two billowing sails.
A light, fresh scent of jasmine followed the wind in, floating faintly in the air.
Bai Yan stopped in front of the manager, bent over and panted lightly twice, then asked with his two moist, shimmering eyes.
“Sister Jiayan, can I take two cups of milk tea back with me today?”
The Omega manager’s heart stirred. She glanced at the car parked outside the shop.
She withdrew her gaze and, with a grin, pushed several cups of milk tea toward the young man.
“Of course you can. I’m not in a hurry. Pick whatever you like. If they’re not right, I’ll make more.”
“Thank you, manager!” The young man’s beautiful eyes immediately curved into two crescent moons.
He picked a full-sugar and a sugar-free cup from the pile of milk tea, put them in his canvas bag, and after saying goodbye again, hurried out.
The car once again welcomed its master and drove forward without looking back.
Cheng Jiayan and the staff exchanged glances and said in unison, “He’s definitely got something going on!”
After a few seconds of silence, a burst of joyous laughter erupted in the shop.
Even a passerby couldn’t help but stop and cast a curious glance inside.
Cheng Jiayan shook her head, laughing, and wiped the tears of laughter from the corners of her eyes with the back of her hand.
It’s good to be young. Every emotion is written on your face.
Oh well, oh well. The one in the middle of it is confused, but the bystander is clear. We have to give them some time.
Who knows, maybe one day he’ll suddenly have an epiphany.
Pei Tingyu was a little frustrated.
He had made a rare trip to pick up his precious from work today, but when his precious saw him in the back seat, the smile hadn’t even faded from his face before he had slammed the car door shut.
He had watched with his own eyes as his precious, had, shut, the, car, door.
Was it that today’s shirt didn’t match the collar pin, or was his carefully designed pose too deliberate, not elegant enough, or was his gaze not gentle and natural enough?
The Alpha was rarely unconfident. He tapped his forehead in frustration, and even his orange blossom pheromones became a little subdued.
Zhao Chengming couldn’t smell the pheromones in the car. He observed his boss’s expression through the rearview mirror and said awkwardly, “Maybe Young Master Bai Yan forgot something. Mr. Pei, should we wait a little longer?”
“Mm.” Pei Tingyu rested his forehead on one hand and thought hard.
Fortunately, the Omega returned not long after.
The young man bent down and got into the back seat. “Sorry for the wait. Mr. Pei, what are you doing here today?”
The Omega smiled brightly and closed the car door. The last rays of dusk slipped into the car through the crack, and a bright light flashed in the young man’s beautiful eyes.
The frustrated feeling was swept away, and the man’s features unconsciously softened.
Pei Tingyu crossed his hands on his lap and said calmly, “I just had some business to take care of around here.”
Bai Yan knew that Assistant Song was on vacation abroad. Pei Tingyu had also selectively forgotten to tell him that there were other dedicated drivers on standby.
The young man obediently sat with his legs together and nodded naively, truly believing that the man had just been passing by.
A curve appeared on his lips. He took out two cups of milk tea from his canvas bag and handed one to Mr. Pei beside him.
“Our shop is trying to improve its flavors today and is conducting a consumer survey. These are a few cups of milk tea I made. Mr. Pei, can you help us try them?”
The young man’s eyes sparkled, filled with anticipation.
“My honor.” The Alpha’s gaze darkened. He nodded and took the milk tea cup.
But… he held the straw and inserted it clumsily into the cup opening.
He thought to himself, when did I give my precious the impression that I could be considered a “consumer”?
A rich taro flavor exploded on his taste buds.
The sweetness was just right. Mm… there’s something else in here, a crispy additive… is it jelly?
The man frowned in hesitation, slowly savoring the new flavor in his mouth. He finally couldn’t resist and looked down at the label.
“Taro Boba Milk Tea, double taro, double boba, full sugar.”
Pei Tingyu was speechless.
The Alpha couldn’t help but facepalm and chuckle.
His precious always manages to surprise him.
The survey is probably just an excuse.
Bai Yan placed the other cup, a sugar-free jasmine tea for Uncle Zhao, in the center console cup holder. When he turned around, he saw the amused expression on Pei Tingyu’s face.
The young man looked over expectantly and asked, “How is it? Is it okay?”
The man gave a reserved critique. “Not bad. The taste is very suitable.”
The smile on the young man’s face grew even wider. “That’s great.”
The car window reflected the man’s handsome face. The Alpha’s lips were curved upwards, a hint of gentleness in his eyes.
The experience is new, and indeed, not bad.
Tonight’s dinner was a sour and spicy Southeast Asian cuisine. The chef’s skills were superb, and a bowl of tom yum soup completely conquered Bai Yan’s taste buds.
The slender Omega’s appetite was whetted. He hadn’t had such a good appetite in a long time. After the seafood pasta was cleared, he had another bowl of mango sticky rice.
The sense of happiness that came with a full stomach welled up in his heart, making the young man’s steps light, as if he were walking on clouds.
He didn’t want to go anywhere after dinner and simply lay on the sofa in the small living room to digest his food.
The last rays of the setting sun were gradually swallowed by the sky. The heavy dusk fell, quietly enveloping Yǎyuán.
But it was divided into small blocks of color by the bright, warm lights, and could only retreat pitifully, wandering in the depths of the woods.
Bai Yan buried his chin in a soft, fluffy pillow and quietly gazed out the window.
It was too far away for him to see clearly. He could only vaguely make out blurry spots of light approaching from the distance, driving away the cold darkness.
So nice.
As he was lost in thought, a low, magnetic voice suddenly sounded above his head. “What are you looking at? Do you want to go for a walk?”
“Hmm?” He instinctively looked up. Mr. Pei had come over at some point and was gazing lazily into the distance.
The Alpha thought he was still hesitating and added coolly, “The lighting designer at Yǎyuán did a decent job. Do you want to see the night view of the garden?”
“No need. I don’t want to go out tonight.” The young man shook his head and smiled faintly, revealing his neat, white teeth.
“Alright,” Pei Tingyu nodded, a light chuckle escaping his lips. “Then, may I invite Yanyan to the study now?”
The Alpha’s low, magnetic voice vibrated against the young man’s eardrums.
Hearing his words clearly, Bai Yan’s pupils instantly widened, his snow-white lashes trembling unexpectedly.
After a long moment, he finally lowered his gaze and nodded slowly. “Okay.”
A few days ago, the study was still undergoing its final touches. Today, he had gone to his part-time job at the milk tea shop.
So, this would be his first night with Mr. Pei in the study.
Deep green, European-style curtains hung on either side. The crystal chandelier cast a warm yellow glow, draping the study in a soft light.
At first, Bai Yan was a little uncomfortable. He couldn’t help but peek over the open book toward the window.
The Alpha sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, his gaze lowered to the book on his lap.
His suit trousers were slightly raised due to his sitting position, revealing a sliver of the man’s sexy ankle. His thin-soled leather shoes were polished to a shine.
His black jacket was draped over the back of the sofa, and a silk waistcoat enveloped Pei Tingyu’s waist, the collar pin behind his tie gleaming with a metallic luster.
His tall, perfect figure filled out the custom-made suit, the muscles beneath his shirt bulging, sparking one’s imagination.
As expected of an S-class Alpha. He looks so good in a suit, it’s practically against the rules.
Even though he had seen so many male model videos on his phone, seeing Mr. Pei’s suit combinations in person still managed to stun him from time to in time.
The young man’s breath caught, his blood rushing to his head. He thought dazedly, The sales associate was right. That collar pin really suits Mr. Pei.
A toast to beauty. Ten thousand yuan was not spent in vain.
The scent of orange blossom filled the study, and the light scent of jasmine was steeped in it. At first, it only occupied a small space.
Slowly feeling a familiar sense of security, more jasmine was released from his gland, tentatively touching the tail end of the pheromones. It was invited by the gentlemanly yet bold orange blossom to dance, to merge.
The two marked, grassy, fresh scents gradually blended together.
Bai Yan’s heart also unconsciously settled down, and the sound of a pen scratching across paper could be heard at the solid wood desk.
The young man was engrossed in taking notes, his expression focused and serious. He didn’t even notice Oz tiptoeing into the study.
The Doberman wagged its tail and was about to trot over to its little master.
Suddenly, it caught sight of the other master by the window, a finger to his lips, making a “shushing” motion.
The well-behaved dog immediately fell silent, tucked its tail between its legs, and walked to its big master, sitting down quietly.
The master’s broad, warm palm stroked the dog’s head. Purr, purr, so comfortable.
But there’s something on his finger, cold and cool, it’s poking dog’s head. Bad, bad!
The man placed the book of poetry back on his lap, his gaze proudly fixed on the young man behind the solid wood desk.
Study happily, my botanist.
The young man was immersed in the ocean of learning. He was so excited about the cell experiment he was reading about that he was even eager to try it himself.
Two crisp sounds suddenly came from the solid wood desk.
The young man looked up, not understanding, and met a night as black as ink.
The owner of the night-black eyes looked down at him gently, his voice tinged with a hint of helplessness. “It seems we’ll have to plan our time in the study in advance from now on.”
Oz had come in at some point and was wagging his tail, looking at him expectantly.
“It’s almost nine o’clock. Go back and rest.”
Bai Yan blinked, not quite sure. “So soon?”
He had just started not long ago.
He opened his mouth, but before he could speak, a yawn escaped his throat.
A neglected sense of fatigue washed over him. Bai Yan’s face turned red. He rubbed his eyes, too embarrassed to say he wanted to continue reading. He slowly stood up and walked away in his cotton slippers.
His mind was already hazy, but he still remembered to politely say goodnight. “Mr. Pei, I’ll be going then. You should also get some rest.”
Pei Tingyu watched the young man leave and sighed.
Looking at my precious like this, he’s probably forgotten what tomorrow is.
But if I tell him, my precious will probably stay up all night cramming, worried about the AO Association’s inspection, and won’t sleep well.
The man pressed his temples, quite helpless. After thinking for a while, he still decided to keep it a secret.
At worst, if my precious asks tomorrow, I’ll just pretend I forgot too.
