Chapter 44
Cen Yang snatched Bai Yan’s phone and shrieked, “This is impossible! I clearly deleted the account! How could you still have—”
The rest of his words were stuck in his throat.
He frantically tried to exit the software but found that he couldn’t tap anything.
Only after swiping his finger to the right did he realize that the so-called anonymous account homepage was just a screenshot.
Seeing Cen Yang’s expression, Director Lin’s face suddenly darkened. “Cen Yang, it seems you are very clear about this matter. I need your explanation.”
At this point, what was there for Cen Yang not to understand? It was impossible to recover a deleted account. This was a trap deliberately set by Bai Yan. They had known it was him all along!
He lowered his head, his shoulders trembling violently. When he looked up again, his eyes were filled with gloomy hatred.
“Hahaha,” the Beta’s face twisted, a hateful and triumphant smile on his lips. “So what if I did it?”
He glared at Bai Yan with bloodshot eyes and hysterically accused, “Where was I wrong? Aren’t you just relying on the fact that you’re an Omega, faking illness and acting soft, getting entangled with an Alpha junior, and hooking up with an off-campus Alpha? Aren’t these all things you did yourself?”
“And this jacket you’re wearing. If you weren’t a kept man, where would an orphan like you get the money to afford it?”
Bai Yan didn’t back down. “You don’t need my explanation, and I won’t cut open my stomach to prove my innocence.”
“You were prejudiced against me from the beginning because of my gender. No matter how I explain it, you will just pin a new label on me!”
“So what!” Cen Yang threw caution to the wind and swept all the documents on the table to the floor.
The leaders’ faces were displeased.
“Cen Yang,” Director Lin’s brow twitched violently as she sternly stopped him, “watch your words!”
Cen Yang roared with red eyes, “I’m not wrong! Why can you, as an Omega, enjoy the pursuit of Alphas with a clear conscience?”
“What are you pretending to be so noble for? Do you dare to reveal the identity of that adulterous Alpha? You don’t dare, do you! If you have the guts, call him over. Let’s confront each other.”
“He doesn’t need to prove anything.”
Bang—
The conference room door was suddenly thrown open.
Everyone looked over in unison. The usually stern and unsmiling head of the department respectfully pulled open the heavy, solid wood door.
A noble-faced Alpha with a cold expression strode into the conference room, followed by several suited attendants.
The man was nearly 1.9 meters tall and well-built, his gaze grim, his eyes covered with an impenetrable coldness.
The suppressive force of the S-class pheromones instantly swept through the office. The pressure in the room dropped to an extreme low, indicating that the Alpha was in a far from pleasant mood.
“Ah!” The needle-like pheromones pricked Cen Yang’s nerves. The Beta’s head instantly throbbed with pain, and he lost all his strength, sliding to the floor.
The cold and fierce pheromones, however, carefully reined in their momentum around the young man, the tail end as soft as a feather, gently touching the Omega’s skin.
Bai Yan’s lashes trembled, his pale face turning rosy under the soothing pheromones, but his gaze was still dazed.
Wasn’t Mr. Pei still on a business trip? How did he suddenly come back? And he even knew what was happening at his school and rushed over.
The Alpha condescendingly looked down at the Beta on the floor and said coldly, “I’m sorry. The ‘adulterer’ you’re referring to is Bai Yan’s legally registered marriage partner.”
“If you still don’t believe me, I don’t mind making our marriage record public.”
The lawyer behind him bent down and placed a stack of documents in front of the Beta.
His deep voice was bone-chilling. “In addition, for your slander and defamation against my partner, I have officially filed a lawsuit with the court. The subsequent matters will be fully handled by my lawyer.”
“You, you, you, this is impossible!” Cen Yang’s eyes widened in disbelief, and he collapsed completely on the floor.
Shen Lin witnessed it all. The S-class Alpha had turned the tables with just a few words. He was dejected, and the last shred of fantasy in his heart was extinguished.
Shen Lin had a family matter to attend to and, after saying hello to them, left first.
Jiang Zhiyi was busy with a presentation for a large lecture and, after repeatedly confirming that Bai Yan didn’t need him to stay, also left.
Mr. Pei and the school leaders were in the conference room discussing how to deal with Cen Yang. Bai Yan didn’t want to deal with the school leaders’ formalities, so he simply sat on a chair outside the conference room door and waited.
There was no sun today. The gloomy sky hung overhead, and the air was stuffy and uncomfortable.
These past two days, in order to investigate Cen Yang, Bai Yan hadn’t slept well. Now that the matter was finally settled, the neglected discomfort resurfaced.
Even though the temperature hadn’t risen, his body felt strangely hot. A strange heat rose from his lower abdomen and flowed through his limbs.
The young man’s cheeks were burning. He had to clutch his chest and pant softly, hoping to calm his overly agitated breathing.
Unfortunately, it had little effect. His heart was still pounding wildly in his chest. Bai Yan belatedly thought that his heart had been beating too fast recently.
His face was pale. He habitually raised his hand to touch his forehead.
Hiss— It was indeed a little hot. It’s probably because I didn’t cover myself well with the quilt last night, and I caught a cold.
This time it seems a little serious. I’ll have to trouble Dr. Li again when I get back to Yǎyuán.
Bai Yan bent over, panting. He bit his pale lips, clenched his sleeves, and forced himself to shift his focus.
Mr. Pei came back so quickly, and I haven’t even prepared my confession plan.
Although Mr. Pei might not accept it, I still have to tell him how I feel.
If I continue to interact with Mr. Pei as a family member, pretending to be oblivious, it would be unfair to him.
If Mr. Pei rejects me, or even wants to terminate the contract with me, that’s okay too.
At least, at least I tried.
A confession… what would be a good way?
Do I need flowers and gifts? What kind of flowers would Mr. Pei like?
There are so many kinds at Yǎyuán. I don’t know what Mr. Pei prefers.
The young man’s head felt like a mess of paste, dizzy. Just as he was thinking, the back door of the conference room was opened.
The school leaders filed out of the conference room. Some frequently looked back, wanting to talk to Pei Tingyu. Some even looked at him, a smile on their faces, eager to try, but were politely stopped by the accompanying lawyer.
Finally, no one else came out. Bai Yan stood up and swayed as he walked toward the back door.
The door, not completely closed, was open a crack, and the sound of voices came clearly from inside.
Cen Yang was slumped in his chair, shouting uncontrollably, “So what if I have to take legal responsibility! What is Bai Yan? Your golden canary! Hehe, if it weren’t for your power, could he have found me?”
“I haven’t lost, and I wasn’t wrong!”
He roared hoarsely, “You’re just a pair of despicable men in cahoots!”
The secretary behind him didn’t dare to breathe. Pei Tingyu’s steps paused in mid-air, and he glanced at him coolly.
The man exuded an extremely dangerous aura, his powerful presence making it impossible to look at him directly.
The Alpha looked down at him condescendingly, his gaze as cold as ice, making one shiver. “You’re wrong. If it were by my power, you wouldn’t even need to appear before me. I have a hundred ways to send you directly to prison.”
“To disappoint you, Bai Yan is my legal partner, and also my lover.”
His deep voice echoed in the empty conference room. “I am here not for the reputation of the group, but simply because I love him. I am unwilling for my lover to suffer unjust criticism. That’s all.”
After speaking, the Alpha didn’t give the despondent Beta on the floor another glance and turned to walk toward the conference room door.
The secretary respectfully opened the door. The man was about to step out when he saw a sight he would never forget.
Outside the door, the young man’s clear eyes were wide with astonishment, his wrist still raised, maintaining the motion of knocking.
Who knew how much of the conversation he had just heard.
