Chapter 60
Yǎyuán, Third Floor
Lin Yu pulled the tab of a soda can, took a sip of the ice-cold cola, and said calmly, “The orphanage was short on money before… so I found a part-time job at a bar. One day, a drunk customer caused trouble.”
“He happened to see it and helped me chase the customer away. Since he helped, I had to thank him properly, right? He doesn’t drink, so I made him a glass of fruit juice, and we chatted at the bar for a while.”
“We chatted and chatted until it was closing time,” Lin Yu started out smoothly, but then he began to stammer. “He said he was a poor Beta art student, with no parents and no money.”
“My heart softened for a moment, and I took him back to my rental house…”
Bai Yan was speechless.
He couldn’t believe it. His friend, who usually had eight hundred schemes up his sleeve, had actually taken in a stranger so rashly.
“Alright, alright,” Lin Yu’s face turned red under the Omega’s suspicious gaze.
The Beta boy threw his hands up in surrender and said loudly in self-abandonment, “He just happened to be my type. He looked so soft and weak, not like an Alpha at all.”
“And I was under a lot of pressure back then. I had a little to drink that night, and the atmosphere was just right, so I kind of just went along with it…”
He gulped down his cola, finally suppressing the blush on his face, and pretended to be calm as he continued, “We started dating after that. I didn’t tell you before because I knew we wouldn’t last.”
He paused, his expression suddenly becoming incredibly angry, the can in his hand creaking as he squeezed it.
“But then I found out he had been lying to me the whole time. What art student, what poor student—it was all fake! He’s the legitimate heir to a CEO! And an S-class Alpha at that.”
“He goes to the company during the day and even changes his clothes to come back to my rental house at night. The classmates and friends on his social media feed are actually his assistants and subordinates.”
“I’m so angry! And he acted so well. Who knows how he was laughing at me behind my back,” Lin Yu said, growing angrier as he spoke, his eyes suddenly turning red. “I’m a complete and utter joke!”
He was furious, a buzzing sound in his ears. “If he had just been clear from the start, who knows who would have been playing who. What a waste of that face, to be on a scumbag!”
“This Alpha is too much. A-Yu, you should expose him online.” Bai Yan frowned and, filled with righteous indignation, pounded the floor a few times.
Oz was so scared he jumped, thinking his secret chewing of the carpet had been discovered, and ran away with his tail between his legs.
“Alright, since you’ve already broken up, don’t think about it too much,” the young man said, quickly hugging his friend’s shoulder to comfort him. “Be careful of your ears.”
He knew that Lin Yu had always been a “face-con” with very high standards, and few people could catch his eye.
He didn’t know what kind of magic this Alpha had.
“In any case, we’re completely over now. I made it clear to him at the orphanage that day.”
“From now on, I’m locking my heart away and focusing on saving money to open a shop.”
Lin Yu sniffled, forcing back the moisture at the corners of his eyes.
The Beta boy clenched his fists, raised his chin proudly, and stood up from the carpet, all traces of sadness gone from his face.
He forced a smile and hugged his friend. “It’s getting late. I’ll be going now. Remember to take your medicine. I’ll come see you again next time.”
Bai Yan patted his shoulder and, with his eyes lowered, tried to get him to stay. “Are you sure you don’t want to stay for dinner?”
“I’d better not. I wouldn’t dare to disturb you and Pei Tingyu’s private world. We’ll get together again when we have time.”
“Then let Uncle Zhao take you back.”
The two of them had just reached the door when the roar of a car engine sounded in their ears.
Before long, a silver-white Bentley and a red sports car had pulled up, one after the other, next to the little angel fountain.
Pei Tingyu got out first, walked up to the two of them, and gently took Bai Yan’s hand, giving Lin Yu a nod as a greeting.
Just as Lin Yu was about to leave, someone got out of the red sports car. He glanced over casually, and when he saw who it was, his face immediately darkened.
Yu Xuanying had just taken off his sunglasses and glanced out casually when he suddenly saw the ashen-faced Lin Yu at the entrance, a look of surprise in his eyes.
He didn’t even bother to straighten his suit and quickly walked up to the Beta.
The Alpha was handsome, his long, thick eyebrows framing a pair of charming peach-blossom eyes that shimmered with light. When he smiled in the light, they were filled with a fine luster, making him look even more amorous.
A surprised smile appeared on Yu Xuanying’s face, and he said softly, “A-Yu, what are you doing here? What a coincidence.”
Lin Yu didn’t look at him and walked straight ahead.
He immediately flashed in front of the young man and asked softly, “Are you leaving? It’s far from your school. Let me take you back.”
Lin Yu gritted his teeth in anger. If he hadn’t gotten a new phone, he would have suspected that this guy had installed a tracker on his phone again.
If A-Yan hadn’t been here, he would have wanted to punch this Alpha in the face, just like last time!
“No need.” The Beta replied stiffly, his hands held up in a defensive posture.
His gaze fell on the man’s tie, and his mood soured even more. He let out a cold laugh and said, “What’s this little distance? Even if I have to walk, I’ll walk.”
The atmosphere between the two was so strange that even Bai Yan, a slow-witted outsider, could clearly see that something was wrong.
Bai Yan frowned and approached the two of them. In the clear light, the tie clip on the man’s chest suddenly flashed, and the red tie was also revealed.
The edge of the tie was wrinkled and difficult to smooth, and the gold thread was coming undone. It didn’t match the Alpha’s custom-made suit at all.
He seemed to have a feeling. He turned to look at the collar pin on Pei Tingyu’s collar and suddenly, with a flash of inspiration, finally remembered where he had seen this tie before!
Back at the suit shop, when he was picking out a collar pin for Mr. Pei, Lin Yu had seemed absent-minded, his gaze fixed on a tie for a long time.
Bai Yan’s eyes widened in astonishment. Lin Yu’s ex-boyfriend was Yu Xuanying!
Yu Xuanying gave a stiff smile, opened his mouth, and was about to say something. “A-Yu—”
Pei Tingyu’s Omega suddenly walked up to his wife and took his wife’s hand.
He even took his wife’s hand… Yu Xuanying was furious, and also a little wronged. It had been so long since he had held his wife’s hand!
Bai Yan smiled and said in a soft, cottony voice, “A-Yu, we’re having your favorite braised crucian carp tonight. We haven’t seen each other in a long time. Stay tonight.”
“Okay,” Lin Yu’s dark expression softened. He said, “CEO Yu, I’m not going back. Please feel free to do as you wish.”
After finally seeing his wife, only to be ignored and then driven away by his wife, the smile on Yu Xuanying’s face completely froze.
But Yu Xuanying was CEO Yu, after all. The handsome Alpha tucked the long hair that had fallen on his shoulder behind his ear and nonchalantly raised an eyebrow with a light laugh.
“What a coincidence. Braised crucian carp is my favorite too. Mr. Pei and Mrs. Pei are generous. You wouldn’t mind one more for dinner, would you?”
They were on someone else’s territory, after all. With Yu Xuanying being so thick-skinned, there was nothing Lin Yu could do but grit his teeth in hatred, not even wanting to look at him, and turn to go inside.
Yu Xuanying smiled bitterly and quickly followed, all his usual imposing aura gone.
The stagnant air at the entrance finally began to flow again. Bai Yan secretly let out a breath, looked up at the person beside him, and whispered, “They’ll be alright, won’t they?”
“I don’t think so,” Pei Tingyu said with a smile, a hand to his lips. He took his precious’s hand again, brought it to his lips for a kiss, and said warmly, “Let’s go.”
Tonight’s dinner was still sumptuous and delicious, but no one present was in the mood to enjoy it quietly.
Yu Xuanying would occasionally glance at Lin Yu beside him, clumsily trying to start a conversation but finding no opportunity.
He wanted to say that the tulips in his rental house had all bloomed. If A-Yu didn’t go back to see them, they would wither.
He also wanted to say that Sang Biao, the cat A-Yu had been feeding downstairs in the neighborhood, had been taken in by him.
The neutered calico cat was going crazy at home every day, pooping everywhere and hitting people, making him miserable.
Most of all, he wanted to say that he knew he was wrong. He shouldn’t have hidden his identity, shouldn’t have installed a tracking system on A-Yu’s phone.
He swore he had never treated A-Yu as a temporary pastime.
What century was it now? AB relationships were no longer a big deal. And his pheromone disorder had a chance of being cured, so he would definitely not trouble his wife anymore.
But whenever Yu Xuanying showed a pitiful look, wanting to join the conversation, his wife would deliberately change the subject and chat with the Omega about something else.
Yu Xuanying bit his handkerchief in hatred, watching his wife only talk and laugh with Bai Yan, not giving him a single glance.
He steeled himself and downed the white wine in his glass in one gulp. At the end, he had the waiting servant refill his glass.
Lin Yu was chatting with Bai Yan, but his ears were always attentive to the Alpha’s movements beside him. Only after not hearing Yu Xuanying’s weak voice did he reluctantly relax.
He didn’t know how to face Yu Xuanying. He had promised himself not to be soft-hearted toward him.
But seeing him with that beautiful face, deliberately making a pitiful expression, he couldn’t bring himself to be cruel.
He always couldn’t help but want to tell him not to waste that beautiful face.
After finally finishing dinner, Lin Yu turned his head and saw the Alpha with a big red face, passed out on the dining table.
The man’s long hair cascaded down, piled up at his delicate chin. His beautiful features were scrunched up, the upward-tilting corners of his eyes moist and red, and he kept muttering “Wife, I was wrong, I was wrong.”
I’ll drink to apologize to you, okay? Don’t be angry with me. Don’t ignore me.
Even though he was drunk and acting crazy, the sight of the beauty in tears somehow made it impossible to be angry.
Lin Yu was both amused and exasperated. In the end, his heart softened. With the help of a servant, he struggled to lift the Alpha, bundled him up, and stuffed him into the passenger seat of the sports car.
Bai Yan was undeniably worried. After a moment of hesitation, he said, “A-Yu, why don’t you stay here tonight and have the assistant take CEO Yu?”
Lin Yu thought for a moment but still refused. “He’ll throw a fit when he’s drunk. It’s too much trouble to have him here. I’ll just take him to the foot of the mountain and wait for his assistant to find him.”
He glanced at Pei Tingyu in the distance, leaned close to the young man’s ear, and whispered, “I’ve disturbed you today. I’m leaving. Remember to take your medicine.”
Bai Yan: “Mm, you be careful too.”
Lin Yu nodded and got into the driver’s seat of the sports car. The red sports car sped forward and was out of the underground garage in a flash.
Bai Yan took Pei Tingyu’s hand, their fingers intertwined, and walked side by side, taking the elevator back to the main house.
The setting sun sank into a sea of clouds, and the evening stars gradually appeared. The sweet scent of flowers from the Lin family drifted over with the wind, blending with the orange blossom and jasmine, gradually mixing into a refreshing scent.
The two of them sat on the sofa on the garden terrace. Pei Tingyu pulled Bai Yan into his arms, hugging the young man’s slender waist from behind, enjoying the rare moment of peace.
Bai Yan lowered his head and played with the man’s fingers, whispering to the Alpha, “I never would have thought CEO Yu was like this in private.”
“I know A-Yu. He’s always been a tough-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside person. He says he doesn’t care about CEO Yu, but he actually can’t bring himself to be cruel.”
“Xian sheng, do you think… they’ll be alright? Will CEO Yu bully A-Yu?” He grew worried as he thought about it, let go of Pei Tingyu’s hand, and said anxiously, “No, I have to call him.”
The young man was about to jump off Pei Tingyu’s lap.
Pei Tingyu’s brow twitched. He gripped Bai Yan’s waist with his large hands and, with a firm grip, changed his direction, having his precious sit astride his lap and pulling him back into his embrace.
“Xian sheng.” Bai Yan cast him a helpless look, his pale gold hair resting obediently on his neck, glowing with a fine luster in the terrace light.
The young man raised his fingertips and, in retaliation, poked the man’s chest. The touch was firm, and it felt good. So he opened his hand and felt it some more.
A low chuckle escaped Pei Tingyu’s throat, and even his chest trembled with it.
He caught Bai Yan’s hand, his fingertips rubbing the young man’s palm, and brought it to his lips for an intimate kiss.
“Let them handle their own emotional affairs.”
After a long moment, he buried his face in the young man’s neck and said slowly, “Yu Xuanying seems to have the upper hand, but actually, all his thoughts are on Lin Yu. Every move he makes depends on whether Lin Yu is happy or not.”
“They say that in matters of the heart, the one in the middle of it is confused, but the bystander is clear. My precious is worried, so you can’t see through it.”
The teasing in his tone was too obvious. Bai Yan was unconvinced, suddenly pulled his hand away, and blurted out, “Then, xian sheng, have you never been the one who was confused?”
He had asked casually, but now he was curious about the Alpha’s answer. The young man’s moist, shimmering eyes didn’t blink as he looked steadily into the man’s.
His cherry-pink pupils trembled slightly, shining with a fine light, and in them, only one person’s figure was reflected.
“Of course, I have.” Pei Tingyu’s voice was low and hoarse, his gaze darkening. He lowered his head and kissed the young man’s beautiful eyes.
Bai Yan’s heart suddenly sank, his lashes trembling.
He suddenly realized that he and his husband were almost ten years apart. When he was ten, his husband was almost twenty.
Such a long time. Before he had met his husband, would his husband… have liked someone else?
A sour feeling rose in the young man’s heart. Just thinking about it, his heart ached with a fine, stinging pain.
How could Pei Tingyu not understand his precious’s expression? His fingertips cherishedly brushed over the young man’s snow-white eyebrows and said softly.
“The only time I was the one who was confused was when I took your feelings too lightly, made my own decision to leave, thinking it was for your own good. Little did I know that it would hurt you.”
A dark current swirled in the man’s eyes. He drew closer and closer to the Omega, until their lips were just inches apart, his voice incredibly hoarse.
“My precious, I love you, perhaps even earlier than I realized. You are the only exception in my life, and also the treasure bestowed upon me by the heavens.”
A moist, hot kiss fell, and the last words were lost in their intertwined breaths.
The scent of evening flowers floated, jasmine and orange blossom intertwining, bearing the fruit of love on the branches.
The stars in the sky twinkled, quietly watching the lovers in love under the night sky.
After an unknown amount of time, the two finally separated, their foreheads touching as they panted softly.
The man lowered his gaze, his thick lashes resting on his eyelids. His fingertips wiped away the moisture on the young man’s lips, rubbing them as he murmured in a low voice.
“My precious, stay in my room tonight, okay…”
Because of the check-up, the two had tacitly refrained from being intimate recently. Even the usual goodnight kiss in the study had been skipped.
Seeing that his body had recovered, it was self-evident what sleeping in the same bed meant.
A shy pink blush immediately crept up Bai Yan’s fair face, and even the toes in his cotton socks curled up.
He wrapped his arms around the man’s neck, nodded slowly, and said in a small voice, “Xian sheng, wait for me. I’ll go back to my room first… to take my medicine.”
The Alpha was at a loss for a rare moment. A look of remorse flashed across his face as he said softly, “My precious, I’m sorry. I forgot to tell you.”
“I took an Alpha contraceptive shot before. It will be effective for three months.”
Bai Yan looked up in surprise, the seriousness in the man’s eyes not feigned.
A smile touched Pei Tingyu’s lips. “Taking medicine is bad for your body. We won’t take it anymore. My precious is still young. We’ll consider having children later, okay?”
After a long moment, the blushing Omega’s eyes curved into a smile, and he rewarded him by covering the man’s lips with his own, saying softly, “Okay.”
