Chapter 23 p2
On the other side, the private room was dim. The faint light shone on the crystal clear wine glasses, refracting rays of light like colored glaze.
A low and ambiguous background music was playing slowly, which was particularly in line with this occasion.
Lu Ze was sitting on a sofa on the side, his elbow resting on the armrest, the wine glass he was holding gently swaying, his eyes half-closed. In the dim light, his long and narrow eyelashes were slightly lowered, and his whole person seemed a little intoxicated and not very sober.
The people around were making a scene and looking over, but no one dared to say a word.
Qi Kuo was next to him. Seeing this, he smiled and said, “This wine was specially flown in from abroad. It’s not too expensive, just a few million. What do you think, Young Master Lu?”
Lu Ze looked at him askance. His usually sharp eyes were stained with alcohol, and his whole person was a little drowsy. He seemed to be a little slow to react. After a moment of silence, he slowly smiled, his voice a little lazy, “You’re too kind, Young Master Qi. I said I would treat you last time, but I didn’t expect to have a good drink on you again today.”
Qi Kuo said, “To be praised by you like this, Young Master Lu, it’s worth its price.”
He poured him another glass of wine. “Drink slowly, Young Master Lu.”
Lu Ze glanced at him askance, a half-smile on his face. “Your attentive attitude makes me suspect that you’re reluctant to part with that car and are trying to get close to me.”
Qi Kuo’s action paused slightly, then he smiled casually. “What are you talking about, Young Master Lu? Although the Qi family is not as big as the Lu family, it’s just a car. I’m not so petty as to not be able to afford to lose.”
“It’s best if that’s the case.”
Lu Ze leaned back on the sofa and looked up at the faint light above his head, his eyes slightly narrowed. “After all, I’ve been eyeing your car for a long time, Young Master Qi.”
His words seemed to have a hidden meaning. Qi Kuo’s hand, hidden in the darkness, tightened, but his face was expressionless. He just tilted his head slightly and glanced at the person next to him.
The person nodded at him, and only then did he feel a little relieved. He curled his lips into a strange smile. “To be so coveted by you, Young Master Lu, it seems I really didn’t buy this car in vain.”
Lu Ze half-closed his eyes, as if he were completely unaware of his actions.
Qi Kuo sighed again. “This car, Young Master Lu, you like it. It’s not a big deal for me to give it away. But the rare thing is that I also like it very much. For a moment… I’m afraid I can’t part with it.”
Lu Ze’s action of drinking paused, and he slowly looked up at him…
…
A University was in the city center, and it was only a ten-minute drive from Huating.
There was no traffic on the road, and the journey was very smooth. When Lin Zhiyan arrived, the designated driver had also just arrived.
Lin Zhiyan asked him to wait outside for a while, then looked up at the magnificently decorated clubhouse and stepped inside.
A waiter came up to him as if to say something. Lin Zhiyan waved his hand to signal them not to follow and took the elevator directly to the third floor.
319 was easy to find. Lin Zhiyan’s steps paused slightly. He looked at the door that was open a crack and was about to knock when he suddenly heard something and his action paused.
“Young Master Lu, the bet was clearly stated. If you can win over that Lin Zhiyan, I, Qi Kuo, will naturally offer that car with both hands.”
Outside the door, Lin Zhiyan’s hand, suspended in mid-air, stiffened, and then he slowly lowered it.
There seemed to be quite a few people in the private room, but it was unusually quiet. The voices inside could be heard clearly outside.
Lin Zhiyan heard that voice with a slow smile, and he said unhurriedly, “But now, Young Master Lu, you’re just saying that you’ve won him over, but you’re not even willing to bring him over. How can we believe you?”
Hearing this, Lu Ze let out a light laugh after a moment. “So, you’re saying you’re going to break the contract, Young Master Qi.”
“Hey, you can’t say that.” Qi Kuo shook his head. “A few million is not a small amount, but it’s not a lot either. I’m not so petty as to ruin my reputation for this little money.”
He smiled. “But after all, words are no proof. I can’t just throw this money away without even seeing a ripple. I’m sure you can understand me, Young Master Lu.”
Lu Ze’s eyelashes were half-lowered, and he said slowly, “So, you’re saying you have to see him, Young Master Qi?”
Qi Kuo just smiled without speaking.
The atmosphere in the private room was instantly silent.
Just then, a voice suddenly came from outside the door, “Hey, Mr. Lin… why are you standing at the door?”
Outside the door, Lin Zhiyan slowly turned his head and looked at the surprised man, his eyes cold and silent, without a trace of emotion.
The man couldn’t help but shrink his head, and the expression on his face almost couldn’t be maintained.
Lin Zhiyan asked, “Was it you who called me?”
The man’s neck was stiff as he nodded.
Lin Zhiyan’s eyelids lowered slightly, then he slowly looked up. “Thank you.”
As he spoke, he raised his hand and pushed open the door, and strode into the private room.
He looked around. The people inside all looked over, their expressions a mix of shock and surprise, and some even had a look of anticipation for a good show.
Lin Zhiyan’s eyes darkened. He ignored them and slowly placed his gaze on Lu Ze in the center of the private room.
He seemed to have drunk a lot, and his expression was a little dazed. He was slumped in the dark sofa, his posture leisurely, and he was still holding a glass of wine, the dark red liquid gently swaying in the glass.
Lin Zhiyan had never seen him like this before, and for a moment, he felt a sense of strangeness.
He pursed his somewhat dry lips.
Seeing the person who had come, Qi Kuo stood up with a smile and greeted, “We were just talking about you, and now you’re here.”
Lin Zhiyan followed the voice and looked over, his brows furrowing imperceptibly.
No wonder he had felt that the voice at the door was a bit familiar. It turned out to be someone who had pursued him before.
Qi Kuo noticed his expression, reached out his hand, and said with a smile, “I’m sure you still remember me, Mr. Lin?”
All the gazes in the private room were focused on him.
Lin Zhiyan looked down at his hand, then looked up, his voice cold, “Sorry, I don’t usually pay much attention to unimportant people.”
Qi Kuo’s face stiffened.
But Lin Zhiyan didn’t pay any attention to him and walked straight towards Lu Ze.
The light in the private room was dim, and he couldn’t see the expression on his face clearly, only that his eyes were calm and clear.
Lin Zhiyan’s heart moved, and he reached out his hand to him. “Get up.”
Lu Ze obediently raised his hand and placed it on his, letting him pull him up shakily.
Lin Zhiyan put his arm on his shoulder and, ignoring the surprised expressions of the others around, helped him walk out.
“Lin Zhiyan,” Qi Kuo called out to him, his expression slightly dark. “I don’t believe you can’t see that Lu Ze has ulterior motives for being with you.”
Lin Zhiyan’s steps paused. He turned his head and looked at him quietly for a moment, then said, “Do you think I’m stupid?”
“What?” Qi Kuo was confused for a moment.
Lin Zhiyan said, “In terms of family background, I’m not as good as you, but what gives you the confidence to think that you can successfully plot against me?”
He glanced at him again, and the contempt in his eyes made Qi Kuo’s face almost unable to be maintained.
Lin Zhiyan continued to walk out with Lu Ze. Just as he was about to leave, he said again, “And.”
He looked back. “The car that… this gentleman and Lu Ze were talking about just now, it’s not convenient for me to go and get it now, so I’ll have to trouble you to send the car to our home.”
“Qingjiang Community, Building Three. Thank you.”
