Chapter 19
Xing Nuo furrowed his brows and took a couple of steps back, covering his ears.
Despite his young age, Xing Nuo seemed to have an innate sense of danger. His intuition told him something was wrong, and he continued to retreat.
He finally stopped when he reached the wall on the other side of the living room, his line of sight no longer on the toy town, and lowered his hands.
The noise lessened considerably, no longer as piercing.
But the toy town sat on the coffee table in the center of the living room. Wherever Xing Nuo looked, his gaze would inevitably fall upon it.
And after a few glances, the toy seemed to become like a poppy, its allure impossible to resist.
Xing Nuo’s head ached from the noise, but his eyes were glued to the toy town.
Leaning against the wall, Xing Nuo clenched his fists and, after much effort, managed to tear his gaze away.
As if in response to his attempt to escape its influence, the cartoon sun on the east side of the toy town suddenly set, replaced by a moon.
The bright, cheerful colors of the town instantly faded, replaced by a grayish shadow.
The smiles on the little figures’ faces vanished, replaced by cries and wails.
“Little friend, can you save me?!”
“I’m trapped here! This cursed dungeon, how do I get out?!”
“Let me out! I just glanced at a toy store on the street, answered a question, and got pulled in!”
“Please, help me!”
The soft cries echoed in his ears, and Xing Nuo shook his head, his mind in a whirl.
The little figures who had just been inviting him to eat bread and play games were now crying.
Xing Nuo was too young to understand what was happening.
An adult in his place, seeing the toy town change from day to night and hearing the figures’ pleas, would likely ask what was going on.
Some of the figures were even giving out their home addresses.
“My home is on the sixth floor of Building E, Happy Family Residence! I’m not lying! I was restricted by the rules during the day! What I’m saying now is true! At night, the town is temporarily free from the rules!”
This little figure in green even lived in the same complex as Xing Nuo.
Xing Nuo, his curls falling against his cheek, looked at the agitated green figure and opened his mouth.
The green figure’s anxious expression turned to elation.
But then Xing Nuo yawned and closed his mouth, showing no intention of answering.
Zaizai not silly.
These little people are strange. Zaizai is smart, no talk!
The little figures tried everything, shouting and pleading for over ten minutes, before finally falling silent, exhausted and despairing.
The cartoon moon on the east side of the town was slowly covered by clouds, leaving the town in a dim, sunless, moonless state.
The little figures fell asleep, scattered across the streets like corpses.
The noise vanished, and Xing Nuo’s sensitive ears finally found relief.
He sighed softly, thinking it was over, when a lizard monster with glowing red eyes slowly crawled down from the only mountain in the toy town.
The monster was dark green, with snake-like patterns on its back, hissing as it slithered down the small mountain.
It reached the miniature town, which barely covered the coffee table.
Its snake-like tongue flicked out, snatching a sleeping figure and devouring most of it in one gulp.
Xing Nuo froze, his eyes widening. He instinctively took a couple of steps forward.
The monster, having swallowed the figure in seconds, looked up and, through the toy town, saw Xing Nuo in the human world.
It flicked its long, sticky tongue, hissing, imagining the delicious taste of the little human.
Unfortunately, the monster and Xing Nuo weren’t in the same world.
Restricted by the rules, even if it wanted to eat the delicious human, it could only do so if the human was pulled into the toy town dungeon.
[Dungeon: Toy Town
Type: Rule Escape
Rules: The town has three states. When the sun is out, the figures must smile and attract “customer” humans to become part of the town.
When the moon is out, the figures cannot lie. If a “customer” responds to them, they can swap places and escape the dungeon.
When the sun and moon are covered by clouds, the town’s inhabitants fall asleep, and the monster hunts until the sun rises again.]
Before being pulled into this game, a player who had cleared the dungeon had summarized its rules.
The fastest way for players, or ordinary people trapped in the dungeon, to escape was to gain the sympathy of the other humans during the moon phase and get them to respond.
As soon as someone responded, regardless of the content of their reply, they would be pulled into the game.
The player who elicited the response would then receive a notification of completion and escape.
In the Infinite Flow world, a third of a team composed almost entirely of B-level and above players had perished in this Toy Town dungeon.
Back then, the dungeon was new, and no one knew the rules. Several players, cautious, had refused the figures’ requests.
But the dungeon’s rules were cruel; refusal was also considered a response, and those players were immediately pulled into the town.
Those who remained silent, however, escaped.
After that, the rules of Toy Town quickly spread, and the dungeon, unable to trick anyone, changed its tactics.
It used the spatial rifts between worlds to create a more elaborate virtual toy town, luring ordinary humans from the real world.
A department in the human world called the “Special Incidents and Abilities Management Office” had been tracking this toy town.
After the first anomaly appeared in the human world, humanity hadn’t remained passive. They established the SIA to combat these anomalies.
Humans who encountered these anomalies often awakened special abilities, becoming known as ability users.
The current leader of the Rongcheng SIA team was the new resident on the third floor of Xing Nuo’s building.
The third-floor resident ordered a burger for lunch, which came with a toy car. He decided to give it to Xing Nuo, the little cub upstairs.
The little cub had started kindergarten and cried every day, his tear-streaked face making the third-floor resident chuckle.
Thinking this, he smiled and went upstairs with the toy, knocking on the fourth-floor door.
But the moment he knocked, his smile froze, his eyes widening in disbelief.
He sensed it—the energy signature of the B-level anomaly he had been tracking for half a month!
It was inside his neighbor’s apartment!
Inside the apartment.
Xing Nuo watched in horror as the lizard monster swallowed another figure.
As the lizard flicked its tongue to grab another figure, the figure suddenly woke up, screamed, and scrambled into a nearby building.
The moment it entered the building, the effect of the dungeon prop it had used wore off, and it slumped back down, falling asleep.
The figure knew that this time, it would never see the eternally bright, artificial sun of the toy town again.
The lizard seemed enraged.
Ignoring the other sleeping figures, it slowly crawled towards the one that had dared to escape.
Just as the lizard was about to snatch the figure, Xing Nuo blinked and acted.
He raised his little wooden sword, imitating the little knight from his picture book, and let out a soft “Hiya!” He poked the lizard monster with the sword.
The lizard monster and Xing Nuo were separated by two worlds. Under normal circumstances, they could only see each other, unable to even smell each other, let alone touch.
The lizard continued to crawl, hissing mockingly, ignoring Xing Nuo’s actions.
But then—
The wooden sword seemed to pierce a soft membrane. With a soft pop, it touched the lizard’s back.
The moment the wooden sword made contact, black smoke started to pour out of the lizard’s body, its back burning.
It hissed in pain, trying to escape, but the seemingly weak wooden sword held it firmly in place.
Feeling its energy dissipating, the lizard looked up at the small wooden sword it had disregarded.
Its red, slitted eyes narrowed sharply.
An SSS+ level prop?!
Why is it such an ordinary children’s toy sword?!
The gem embedded in the sword had a special property that allowed it to ignore spatial distances to a certain extent, directly targeting its intended location.
The sword also carried Shen Yan’s strong aura, which made the B-level lizard monster tremble uncontrollably.
The monster’s pained roars gradually weakened, the black smoke dissipating, leaving a limp, motionless lizard.
Xing Nuo, seeing the monster defeated, let out another “Hiya!” and put his sword away, wiping his forehead as if exhausted.
That was close!
Zaizai narrowly defeated the lizard monster!
Xing Nuo sighed in relief. Seeing the motionless lizard, he poked it repeatedly with his wooden sword, pushing it back into the small mountain it had come from.
sad for the person who was already eaten lol
but yea, in my culture, if someone calls your name, you’re not supposed to respond unless you actually see them. or know they’re there. bcuz if you do, you’re talking to a ghost.
our baby is smart! he didnt respond
