Chapter 20
After his epic battle with the monster, beads of sweat dotted Xing Nuo’s forehead.
He patted some dirt off the tip of his wooden sword, but it wouldn’t come off. He frowned, letting out a soft “Aw.”
His sword was dirty.
Clutching his little wooden sword, Xing Nuo forgot all about the toy town and ran to the bathroom.
Standing at the child-sized sink, he meticulously washed his sword, from tip to hilt.
Humming a nursery rhyme he had learned at kindergarten, he accidentally got the sink covered in white, foamy soap.
“Oops!”
He wiggled his feet and noticed soap on his shoes. He tried to wipe it off.
But the more he wiped, the more foam there seemed to be. Some of the lighter bubbles, disturbed by his hand, floated around the bathroom.
Xing Nuo, unable to clean his shoes, looked up and saw the foam everywhere, his brow furrowing.
“Bubble monsters!”
He had just defeated a lizard monster that ate toy people, and now there were bubble monsters!
Zaizai knew his path to becoming a little knight wouldn’t be easy!
Xing Nuo puffed out his cheeks and poked at the floating bubbles, trying to make the bubble monsters reveal their true forms.
“Zaizai not ‘fraid!”
Xing Nuo battled the bubble monsters in the bathroom for what felt like ages.
Meanwhile, outside, the third-floor neighbor, also the Rongcheng SIA team leader, was anxiously preparing to kick down the door.
He couldn’t wait any longer!
If he waited any longer, the cute little neighbor cub might be eaten alive by the monster!
Just as he raised his foot, Shen Yan’s cold, emotionless voice sounded.
“What are you doing?”
The third-floor neighbor quickly lowered his foot, almost twisting his back, and stumbled back.
He couldn’t explain the real reason he was about to kick down the door. To ordinary people, special anomalies were a distant concept.
To avoid public panic, all information about anomalies in the real world was kept secret by the authorities.
The third-floor neighbor quickly changed the subject.
“Who are you? I was bringing a toy car for Xing Nuo. I knocked, but no one answered, so I was worried something had happened.”
Shen Yan raised an eyebrow, looked at the muscular man, and then looked away, unsure whether to believe him.
“Xing Nuo is my little brother.”
The third-floor neighbor’s eyes widened in surprise. “Little brother?”
“Biological?” he couldn’t help but ask.
Shen Yan ignored him, carrying the takeout dinner he had bought downstairs, and unlocked the door with a series of beeps.
The moment the door opened, he saw Xing Nuo backing out of the bathroom, holding his little wooden sword.
Xing Nuo’s face was serious, his fluffy hair covered in white foam, his clothes and shoes also dotted with it, even the tip of his sword had a small clump of foam.
He looked exhausted from battle, but his eyes were bright as he held up his wooden sword.
“Monsters come out!”
The third-floor neighbor, following Shen Yan inside, felt his heart leap into his throat.
He rushed past Shen Yan to Xing Nuo, his expression anxious.
“Where’s the monster?! Don’t be afraid, Xing Nuo, Uncle is a professional.”
He shielded Xing Nuo, his face serious, his heart pounding, staring at the foamy bathroom.
Unseen by Xing Nuo, he discreetly activated his ability, ready to fight the monster to the death.
He frowned, trying to figure out the form of this B-level anomaly.
Wasn’t it supposed to appear as a toy town?
Could the monster somehow hide in the foam?
Despite being the SIA team leader, the third-floor resident had little experience fighting monsters. His knowledge of anomalies was only slightly better than the average person’s.
Why these anomalies were occurring, what the “players” some monsters mentioned were, whether they could contact these “players,” and many other questions remained unanswered.
The authorities even suspected that the disappearances of people in the real world were related to these anomalies!
As the third-floor resident was frantically strategizing, the little knight he was protecting stepped forward.
Xing Nuo, holding his wooden sword, took a step back, got into position, and yelled “Hiya!”
“Bubble monsters, here I come!”
He charged into the foam.
The third-floor resident, unable to stop him, his eyes wide, quickly followed.
“Oops!” Xing Nuo’s little voice sounded.
The third-floor resident searched for him in the foam. “What happened? Where’s the monster?!”
He waved his hands, dispersing some of the foam, revealing the situation inside the bathroom.
Xing Nuo was on the floor, his curls buried in the foam, his little arms flailing.
“Zaizai can’t see!”
The third-floor resident’s expression was a mixture of relief and exasperation. He picked up the little one.
Shen Yan, who had briefly disappeared, returned and turned on the ventilation fan.
The warm air quickly cleared the moisture and foam.
Within minutes, only a few bubbles remained on the floor and on Xing Nuo’s head, the bathroom clearly visible.
The third-floor resident, ready for a fight to the death, scanned the ordinary bathroom.
After a moment, a confused look appeared on his face.
Where’s the monster?
Xing Nuo, putting away his wooden sword, looked up and provided the answer.
“Monsters defeated…by Big Brother and Zaizai!”
His cheeks puffed out proudly as he circled Shen Yan, the new Big Brother he had just met.
“Big Brother! You so amazing! Bubble monsters…all gone!”
Shen Yan’s stern expression softened. He picked up the little one and poked a remaining bubble on his head.
“Xing Nuo is amazing too. You weren’t afraid and bravely defeated the monsters.”
Having defeated two monsters in one day, Xing Nuo was exhausted, but his eyes still sparkled with excitement.
“Zaizai amazing too.”
Xing Nuo never hesitated to praise himself, his bright eyes curving into a happy smile.
The third-floor resident discreetly checked the bathroom again, confirming there was nothing unusual. His expression was a mixture of confusion and disbelief.
Was it all a misunderstanding?
But he had clearly sensed a monster’s presence outside!
Just as he was about to question Xing Nuo, he received a call from his team.
“Leader, the B-level Toy Town anomaly has appeared again! In the complex next door!”
The third-floor resident’s heart sank.
That monster is clever, using a diversion!
It had deliberately misled him, making him waste time here while it moved to the next complex!
He hung up, hurriedly excused himself, and sprinted towards the neighboring complex.
Xing Nuo, exhausted, was lying on the small sofa. Seeing the third-floor uncle run out, he tilted his head and asked:
“Uncle…gone?”
Shen Yan nodded, a cryptic smile playing on his lips.
“He must have something urgent to attend to.”
Luo Yuan couldn’t believe he was still alive.
He had been trapped in this toy town for a whole month.
He had seen the toy town on the street corner, heard the chattering voices, and mumbled, “Who left their toy here?”
The next moment, he had become part of the toy town.
When the town’s sun rose, Luo Yuan had to play his assigned role on the street.
Only when the moon appeared could he briefly regain control and communicate with other players.
Knowing he was trapped in a horror dungeon, Luo Yuan was filled with despair, expecting to die at any moment.
But who would have thought that the toy town would target a child this time!
Luo Yuan and the others couldn’t see the child, but after becoming part of the toy town, they could vaguely sense the next “customer’s” general information.
Luo Yuan guessed this was to help them lure the target into responding.
He hid in a building, not joining the other players in trying to entice the child during the moon phase.
Even though he knew it was his only way out.
But the child was lucky, or perhaps too young to speak, and hadn’t responded at all.
Luo Yuan was relieved for the child.
Unfortunately, his own luck wasn’t so good.
Just before the town fell asleep, Luo Yuan felt a strong sense of danger.
He gritted his teeth and used his only life-saving prop. Just as the monster’s tongue was about to snatch him, he woke up and escaped into a shop.
But the prop was only C-level, and Luo Yuan’s brief moment of consciousness faded, and he fell unconscious again.
Before losing consciousness, he thought he was going to die.
But he survived.
Before he could process his surprise, he heard his companion’s excited voice, almost hysterical:
“Luo Yuan, there’s hope! The monster is unconscious at the foot of the mountain!”
Besides the escape method mentioned in the dungeon rules, there was another default method—
killing the core monster of the dungeon.
But this was extremely difficult. If successful, the entire dungeon would collapse, and except for a few top-tier players, no one considered this a viable option.
But now, things were different!
The lizard monster was near death!
There was still a B-level player alive in the town. They just had to wait for the moon to appear, then they could move freely and team up to kill the monster!
Hope had appeared!
Luo Yuan’s eyes lit up with hope, his heart pounding, his mind filled with a manic excitement.
He wasn’t going to die!
