Chapter 36
Wen Xingxue’s eyes were different from most people’s brown, gray, or hazel eyes.
His were pure black, as if no light could penetrate them.
His double eyelids were wide, his pupils round, the corners of his eyes slightly upturned, giving him what should have been beautiful cat-like eyes.
But he often narrowed his eyes, his black pupils like the dark, oppressive night sky of the dungeon, unsettling to look at.
Xing Nuo’s round, black, cat-like eyes were almost identical to Wen Xingxue’s.
Xing Nuo’s ears were ringing, the fever making his vision blurry, disorienting him.
His eyelids drooped, his eyes unfocused, as he stared blankly at the stranger.
“Hmm?” Xing Nuo mumbled, barely registering what the man had said.
A smile suddenly appeared on Wen Xingxue’s stiff, pale face.
It was a rather unsettling, creepy smile.
His teeth clicked together, and he stopped smiling, putting Xing Nuo back on the floor.
“I hope I’m right,” he murmured softly.
Looking at the tiny Xing Nuo, who barely reached his thigh, Wen Xingxue bent down and ruffled his soft, fluffy curls.
His long, thin fingers, calloused from years of fighting, turned Xing Nuo’s hair into a bird’s nest.
Xing Nuo stumbled backward and landed on the carpet.
His feverish head throbbed, and he slowly raised his hand to his head.
“Ow…”
Wen Xingxue snorted, seeing the little one clutching his head.
“Crying already just because I touched your hair? What a little drama queen.”
His voice was rough and grating, like sandpaper against the heart.
He crouched down, one leg bent, and looked at the child’s flushed cheeks, finally realizing—
“Are you sick?”
Wen Xingxue rarely got sick himself, except for injuries.
He reached out, his cold hand touching Xing Nuo’s forehead.
“You are.”
He was burning up.
Wen Xingxue smiled, pinching Xing Nuo’s soft cheek.
“Such a weak little thing.”
He pinched and pinched, then looked into Xing Nuo’s eyes, their round pupils almost identical.
He was about to say something when he suddenly sensed a dangerous presence, his expression hardening.
He took out a spray bottle and sprayed Xing Nuo twice.
“S-level healing spray. For your fever. You’re lucky, kid.”
Seeing Xing Nuo cough from the spray, Wen Xingxue chuckled and quickly teleported downstairs.
The moment his feet touched the first floor, he felt a familiar sharp pain in his chest.
He looked down and saw Shen Wen’s long, slender fingers embedded in his chest.
The pale fingers were stained crimson with his blood, like the vibrant roses in the castle garden, a grotesque beauty.
Wen Xingxue coughed, his laughter manic as he looked at Shen Wen.
“You killed me again!”
Shen Wen glanced at him indifferently and withdrew his hand.
Unfazed by the blood dripping onto the carpet, he looked down at Wen Xingxue coldly.
“So what?”
Wen Xingxue chuckled, feeling his life force draining away. Just before dying, he grinned at Shen Wen.
“See you next time, Shen Wen.”
As Shen Wen watched, his eyes cold, Wen Xingxue tore a piece of paper and vanished.
Shen Wen watched him disappear in a flash of white light and cursed softly.
“Crazy bastard.”
It was always that annoying lunatic Wen Xingxue who challenged his dungeons!
Otherwise, with the difficulty of his dungeons, years could pass without a single challenger.
Because of Wen Xingxue, Shen Wen had been forced to work overtime several times.
He took the handkerchief the butler offered and wiped the blood from his hand, then tossed the handkerchief on the floor in disgust.
“Disgusting.”
Even his blood was foul!
Shen Wen turned and hurried upstairs, picking up Xing Nuo, who was sitting on the carpet, patting his chest.
“Zaizai, how are you feeling? Are you very uncomfortable?”
Xing Nuo, who had inhaled the cool spray, his throat no longer scratchy and dry, but soothed as if he had drunk sweet pear tea, shook his head.
His feverish head also cleared, and he touched his forehead, gasping softly.
“Zaizai no hurt.”
His eyes, bright and clear, he hugged his dad’s neck and nuzzled him like a puppy.
“Daddy, Zaizai no hurt…no need dwink bitter medicine.”
Shen Wen looked down at him, chuckled, and pinched his nose.
“You can’t avoid taking medicine.”
He knew about Wen Xingxue’s healing spray, having seen players use it in dungeons, which was why he hadn’t stopped him.
Carrying the clingy little one, Shen Wen put him back in bed and tucked him in.
He took out the medicine Xing Nuo usually took and, under the little one’s hopeful gaze, turned to the butler.
“Butler, have the cook prepare the medicine. Bring it up later. Xing Nuo needs to take it before bed.”
After Shen Wen and Xing Nuo moved out of the castle, the monster servants had resumed their duties.
The butler nodded and left with the medicine.
Xing Nuo’s eyes widened in disbelief, and he turned his back to his dad, hiding under the covers.
Shen Wen, knowing the little one would protest, walked over and patted his bottom through the blanket.
“You have to take medicine when you’re sick. How else will you get better quickly?”
What if that healing spray had side effects?
He had to take his medicine. Otherwise, he would be the one suffering.
Xing Nuo, pulling the blanket over his head, tried to suffocate himself.
Shen Wen chuckled, his voice clear and elegant. He patted the little one’s head through the blanket.
“After you take your medicine, you can have a glass of sweet milk with honey.”
A muffled hmph came from under the blanket. Clearly, honeyed milk wasn’t enough to compensate for the bitterness of the medicine.
Shen Wen, his chin resting on his hand, a smile playing on his lips, said in a slightly distressed tone:
“What should we do? If one glass of milk isn’t enough, how about a chocolate biscuit too?”
Shen Wen was skilled at coaxing children. He tapped the blanket, continuing his persuasion.
“A nice, crispy chocolate biscuit, freshly baked by the pastry chef, with chocolate chips. Doesn’t that sound yummy?”
Xing Nuo hadn’t had the pastry chef’s chocolate biscuits in a long time.
They were too sweet, and Daddy wouldn’t let the pastry chef make them for him.
He pulled the blanket down slightly, revealing his bright, watery eyes, and whispered:
“Eat biscuit tonight?”
Shen Wen tapped his chin, pretending to be hesitant, and thought for a moment.
Under the little one’s expectant gaze, he finally nodded, as if reluctantly.
“Alright, since Xing Nuo will be so brave and drink all his medicine! As a reward, you can have a biscuit tonight.”
Xing Nuo, completely unaware of being manipulated, grinned, revealing his little teeth.
He emerged from under the covers and snuggled against his dad’s leg.
“Daddy sleep with Zaizai tonight!”
Xing Nuo hadn’t slept with his dad in a long time. His face was flushed with excitement as he nuzzled his dad’s hand.
Shen Wen, feeling the warmth of the little one’s soft cheek against his hand, chuckled.
“Okay, Daddy will sleep with Zaizai tonight.”
Having dealt with the troublesome Wen Xingxue, Shen Wen was sure he would have a long vacation to enjoy some quality time with Zaizai.
Bribed with biscuits and milk, Xing Nuo was surprisingly cooperative about taking his medicine.
He scrunched up his nose, his face a picture of disgust, quickly drank it all, and handed the bowl back to his dad.
“Medicine stinky.”
This medicine was stinkier and bitterer than before!
Shen Wen put a candy in his mouth and, after the bitter taste subsided, praised him.
“So brave! Even bitter medicine can’t defeat our Xing Nuo now.”
Xing Nuo, loving praise, narrowed his eyes and swung his little feet under the covers.
“Daddy amazing too!”
Having exchanged their usual compliments, Xing Nuo snuggled against his dad’s chest, yawning softly, clutching his clothes.
“Daddy sleep with Zaizai.”
Shen Wen tapped his nose and patted his back, soothing him to sleep.
“Okay, go to sleep.”
The butler, closing the bedroom door, carried the empty medicine bowl to the kitchen with a smile.
Passing the living room, he saw the monster servants lurking in the shadows, ready to attack the players, and shushed them.
“The little master and Master need a good night’s sleep. Don’t make any noise.”
The low-level monster servants didn’t like maintaining their human forms at night, preferring their shadowy true forms, hiding in dark corners.
Hearing the butler’s words, their ferocious expressions vanished, and they nodded obediently.
They wouldn’t allow anyone to disturb the master and little master’s sleep!
The butler left, and the monsters continued to wait patiently in the shadows, waiting for the weak players to fall into their hands.
Upstairs, Shen Wen, coaxing Xing Nuo to sleep, told him a story about a knight’s adventure.
In the end, the little knight, his bag packed, obtained the key just as night fell, escaped the dangerous place, and returned home to his family.
Is it confirmed Wen Xingxue is Zaizai’s other parent?!
so it is his father? if it is, that’s some enemies/lovers relationship. just killing each other in another tuesday
