The Whole Family Are Villains, I’m the Group Pet 54

Chapter 54

Wen Xingxue’s residence, like him, was cold and sterile.

It was nothing like the home Xing Nuo shared with his dad.

Their walls were warm-colored, decorated with paintings, the soft sofa always bathed in golden sunlight, the entire apartment as pretty and warm as a watercolor painting.

In contrast, Wen Xingxue’s room was spartan, with only a table and a bed.

Xing Nuo quickly surveyed the room, then looked up and saw Wen Xingxue outside, washing something under running water.

His back was to Xing Nuo, so he probably couldn’t see him.

Xing Nuo, relieved, moved his stiff arms and legs, slowly getting up.

He carefully made his way to the edge of the table, wanting to escape while Wen Xingxue wasn’t looking.

He reached the edge and looked down.

The height made him dizzy for a moment.

When he jumped from the display case, he hadn’t been able to see how far the drop was and had just closed his eyes and jumped.

But the area around the table was empty, emphasizing the height.

Xing Nuo tried to take a deep breath to calm down, then realized, as a doll, he didn’t need to breathe. He felt a surge of fear and pulled back slightly.

It’s okay, he told himself. Zaizai can’t feel pain as a doll.

Even if Zaizai falls, won’t hurt.

He nodded firmly, covered his eyes, and quickly jumped.

A moment of weightlessness, then he landed.

“Huh?” he mumbled softly, surprised.

That was fast!

And no owie!

Floor soft!

He peeked through his fingers and found himself staring into Wen Xingxue’s emotionless eyes.

Wen Xingxue, for some reason, saw innocence, stupidity, and a flicker of panic in the little doll’s button eyes.

“Eek!”

The little doll squeaked, covering its face with its hands, and started squirming in Wen Xingxue’s grasp.

But it was so small that Wen Xingxue could easily hold it in one hand.

“What are you running from?”

He felt like he had seen this little thing before, but he couldn’t place it. He held it up by its collar.

The doll dangled, its little legs kicking frantically.

The more it struggled, the faster it swung back and forth.

Xing Nuo felt dizzy.

Wen Xingxue placed a finger on its tummy, stopping its frantic movements.

Xing Nuo finally stopped struggling, his eyes dazed as he looked up at Wen Xingxue.

Wen Xingxue, amused by the little doll’s stupidity, almost smiled.

“Why were you running?” he asked again.

Xing Nuo looked at Wen Xingxue, his head tilting, a flicker of recognition in his eyes.

“Zaizai go find Daddy.”

He felt no malice from Wen Xingxue and answered obediently.

He instinctively tried to scratch his cheek, but his little arm was too short.

“Find your daddy? Is your daddy an even uglier doll?” Wen Xingxue asked, looking at the clown doll.

Xing Nuo was instantly offended, his little hands on his hips.

“Not! Zaizai’s Daddy handsome!”

Wen Xingxue scoffed and poked the crudely stitched heart on the doll’s face, not believing him.

“You’re this ugly. How handsome can your daddy be?”

Xing Nuo, furious, swung his little arms, trying to hit the mean Big Brother.

“My Daddy handsome! Zaizai not ugly!”

The doll’s punches were weak and powerless. Wen Xingxue barely felt them.

He stopped the doll’s flailing arm with a finger and shrugged.

He turned and carried Xing Nuo outside, into the early morning sunlight.

The sunlight illuminated the small, overgrown yard.

Xing Nuo stared at the messy yard, the walls covered in vines, everything looking unkempt and abandoned.

He gasped softly and looked up at Wen Xingxue.

Wen Xingxue, his eyelids drooping, didn’t bother explaining the state of his yard.

“I’m going to a dungeon. Little thing, are you coming with me, or staying here?”

He then chuckled.

“Actually, you have no choice. You’ll just try to jump off the table again if I leave you alone.”

Xing Nuo didn’t want to go to any dungeon!

But his fate was in the hands of this mean Big Brother. He couldn’t resist.

Dejected, he let himself be put back into Wen Xingxue’s pocket.

When he had been picked up earlier, afraid of being discovered, he hadn’t dared move, even though it was uncomfortable.

But now that Wen Xingxue knew he was a talking, walking, jumping doll, Xing Nuo poked his head out of the pocket.

Wen Xingxue, seeing the messy-haired doll head sticking out, frowned, finding it strange, and pushed it back in.

Xing Nuo’s head popped back out a moment later.

Wen Xingxue pushed it back in again. Xing Nuo popped back out.

Wen Xingxue: “…”

“Fine, keep your head out if you want, but don’t talk, and don’t distract me in the dungeon.”

Allowing the little thing to stay with him was already a concession, considering its familiar appearance and obedient behavior.

But he wasn’t particularly fond of it.

Xing Nuo, his little hands gripping the edge of the pocket, looked up and nodded.

“Okay, Big Brother. But what…dungeon? Why go?”

Wen Xingxue, hearing the little one’s hoarse, scratchy voice, rolled his eyes.

“A dungeon is a dungeon. No need to ask so many questions.”

Xing Nuo mumbled “Oh,” then, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, like a curious little child, asked again:

“Dungeon has…Zaizai’s Daddy?”

He kept hearing the word “dungeon,” but he didn’t understand what it meant. He just wanted to find his daddy.

Wen Xingxue looked down at the little thing and placed a finger over its mouth.

“Shut up. Be quiet.”

He frowned and, quickening his pace, reached the central city and boarded a train with the clown doll in his pocket.

Each train car led to a different dungeon.

The higher-level dungeons, with more powerful core monsters, were located at the front of the train and had fewer passengers.

The D-level and C-level dungeons at the back were always crowded.

Wen Xingxue, after studying the dungeon selection screen for a long time, chose a B-level dungeon.

Pulling up his hood, he entered the train car, pushing the fidgeting clown doll back into his pocket.

The passengers in the B-level car were either members of large guilds or relatively strong solo players.

They were quietly discussing the dungeon when Wen Xingxue entered, and the car fell silent.

Even the conductor, wearing a blue cap, stopped selling props, quickly putting away his basket and moving to another car.

Only after Wen Xingxue sat down and closed his eyes, feigning sleep, did the other players start whispering among themselves.

“Wen Xingxue? Is that really him?”

“It is! I met him in a dungeon before!”

“Is he really challenging a B-level dungeon? That’s unbelievable!”

“You didn’t hear? He cleared an S+ level dungeon early this morning. He’s probably choosing an easy dungeon to relax.”

“So, for a Big Boss like him, B-level dungeons are for taking a break.”

Xing Nuo, in the pocket, finding it uncomfortable and dark, poked his messy head out.

He touched his chin, looked around the train car, and poked Wen Xingxue.

“Big Brother, we on twain?”

Wen Xingxue opened his eyes, hearing the little one’s voice, and clicked his tongue.

“How old are you, still using baby talk?”

Wasn’t it a bit childish?

Xing Nuo tilted his head, looking at Wen Xingxue, and huffed, then answered:

“Zaizai almost four!”

He wanted to hold up four fingers, but, realizing he didn’t have any, he put his hand back down.

Wen Xingxue repeated, puzzled:

“Four years old?”

He knew that wish-granting dolls were usually created from players who failed dungeons and were turned into dolls in the Toy City.

The merchants claimed these dolls could grant wishes, advertising them as useful D-level props!

But if they were actually useful, they wouldn’t be just D-level.

And players weren’t stupid. Only newbies fell for that trick.

Veteran players found it creepy to carry around a doll that used to be a player and usually wouldn’t even look at them.

These dolls usually ended up gathering dust in someone’s inventory or being resold.

But to become a wish-granting doll, you had to be a player first.

Were there even any four-year-old players?

He looked down at the clown doll, its button eyes so clear and innocent, more so than a university student.

Perhaps he really was that young.

Wen Xingxue was about to ask more questions when an announcement sounded:

[B-level dungeon – Toy City, arriving! Please disembark in an orderly fashion and clear the dungeon as soon as possible!]

The players started gathering their belongings and queuing to leave the train.

Wen Xingxue also stood up, put on his mask, poked the fidgeting clown doll back into his pocket, and quickly left the train.

Outside, a brightly colored town awaited them.

The players, standing at the entrance, looked up at the town walls, painted in bright yellow, pink, and light blue.

The gate was decorated with fluffy dolls, each one so cute and inviting.

A colorful array of plushies, like a scene from a toy paradise.

A flag with a giant teddy bear hung from the wall above.

This was the dungeon they had to clear – Toy Town.
