Chapter 56
Wen Xingxue meticulously cleaned his blade, wiping away dust and fluff, his face grim and silent.
Xing Nuo, standing on his foot, tried to climb up his leg.
But his little round hands couldn’t grip the fabric, and after much effort, he was still stuck.
Wen Xingxue, looking down at the fidgeting little thing, sighed.
“What are you doing?”
Even he was surprised by his own patience with this little thing.
Xing Nuo poked Wen Xingxue’s leg and pointed at his pocket.
“Big Brother, put me up. I short…can’t see.”
The doll’s perspective was limited, and Xing Nuo wanted a better view of the room.
Wen Xingxue sheathed his blade, plucked the little thing off his foot, and turned to leave.
Xing Nuo lay on the carpet, looking up at Wen Xingxue as he walked towards the door.
“Big Brother,” he called out, but Wen Xingxue didn’t respond.
Xing Nuo patted the dust off his legs, got up, and tried to climb back onto the sofa.
Before he could reach it, he was lifted by his collar.
The next moment, he was back in Wen Xingxue’s pocket.
“Put on a jacket.”
Wen Xingxue, for some reason, felt the need to explain this to the clown doll.
Xing Nuo poked his head out of the pocket, his button eyes sparkling.
“Big Brother, what we do now?”
Wen Xingxue walked over to the soft, cute sofa, sat down, covered his eyes with his hand, and said:
“Sleep.”
Wasn’t that the whole point of coming to this dungeon?
Xing Nuo, most of his body sticking out of the pocket, tilted his head.
“But…but tomorrow…need lots of money…to stay in little house. And…doll competition…”
The worried little Xing Nuo poked Wen Xingxue’s arm.
Seeing that the Big Brother was motionless, his hand covering his eyes, seemingly asleep, Xing Nuo sighed and slumped against the edge of the pocket.
His little arms dangled limply, his whole being radiating dejection.
He yawned and, succumbing to sleepiness, fell asleep in the awkward position, his head resting on the edge of the pocket.
Wen Xingxue removed his hand from his eyes and looked down at the sleeping doll, which looked even uglier now, and smiled faintly.
It really is quite ugly.
He carefully took the clown doll out of his pocket and placed it on the bed.
He looked around, then tore a small piece of green fabric from the lampshade and placed it over the doll’s tummy.
He looked at the green fabric and nodded, satisfied.
It matches the ugly doll.
He lay down on the bed and closed his eyes.
The sunlight in Toy Town seemed brighter and more vibrant than anywhere else, the town’s dreamy colors shimmering as if through a warm filter.
Wen Xingxue woke up, feeling something on his eyelids.
He reached up to remove it and heard a faint squeak.
“Ow! Big Brother pinched my neck~”
Wen Xingxue loosened his grip and took the little doll off his face.
“What were you doing on my head?”
Xing Nuo, placed beside the pillow, sat up unsteadily, his little hands on his hips.
“Blocking sunlight for you!”
Wen Xingxue paused, remembering how he had covered his eyes with his hand before falling asleep.
“So you climbed onto my head?”
Xing Nuo nodded, puffing out his chest proudly.
“Yes! Zaizai just the wight size! Even as doll…Zaizai useful!”
Amused by the little one’s self-praise, Wen Xingxue smiled.
“Very useful, indeed.”
Xing Nuo beamed, his little head bobbing even inside the pocket.
The weather was nice, and Wen Xingxue left the house, taking the little clown doll with him.
Toy Town was bathed in sunlight, the houses shaped like mushrooms and flowers, small toy shops lining the streets.
Even the crosswalks and signs were painted in pastel pink and blue.
The dreamy little town, even the clouds in the sky shaped like cotton candy.
Xing Nuo looked around in awe, his little head tilting back, his eyes barely able to keep up.
“Wow, this place so pwetty~”
Wen Xingxue nodded lazily, seemingly in no hurry to complete the dungeon.
He stopped in front of a small accessory shop, looking at the colorful brooches and hair clips in the window.
He looked down at the clown doll’s messy hair and asked:
“Your hair always like this?”
Xing Nuo, who had been staring at a streetlight shaped like a baguette, turned his head and mumbled.
He scratched his chin and shook his head.
“No. Zaizai’s hair used to be…smooth and silky!”
Of course, that was after using the comb prop.
Otherwise, his curls would be just as messy after waking up.
Wen Xingxue hummed.
“You need a hair clip then. Your hair is a mess.”
Xing Nuo touched his messy hair, not daring to argue.
In his opinion, pretty hair should be like Daddy’s.
Long, smooth, and golden!
This little doll’s hair was indeed ugly.
Wen Xingxue entered the shop and saw several white teddy bears browsing the shelves with baskets.
He just needed a hair clip, not a basket.
He walked to the hair accessories aisle, held up the clown doll, and let him look.
“Choose one you like.”
Toy Town was inhabited by dolls and teddy bears of all sizes, and the hair accessories ranged from miniature to oversized.
Xing Nuo looked around, shaking his head.
“Zaizai no like hair clips.”
Wen Xingxue poked the ugly little thing and scoffed.
“You’re being picky. With your ugly face, a hair clip might actually make you look slightly better.”
Xing Nuo, his little hands on his hips, glared at Wen Xingxue from his perch on the shelf.
“Not!”
He started lecturing Wen Xingxue, his voice lacking any authority.
“Can’t say doll ugly. And I not picky…I standing vewy still.”
Wen Xingxue shrugged, ignoring his rambling.
“If you don’t like any of these, I’ll choose one for you.”
He picked up a colorful, cartoonish hair clip and held it against Xing Nuo’s head.
Xing Nuo tried to push it away several times, but Wen Xingxue was persistent.
Xing Nuo continued to glare, his arms crossed.
“Not bad. This one looks good,” Wen Xingxue said, nodding.
Xing Nuo shook his head vigorously.
“Not pwetty. Zaizai like sunflowers!”
Wen Xingxue looked at the bright red flower-shaped hair clip and held it against the doll’s head again.
“It’s pretty. Matches the red heart on your face.”
The clown doll’s color scheme was mostly red and green.
Xing Nuo continued to protest, refusing to wear the red flower clip.
“Ugly. Not as pwetty as Zaizai.”
Wen Xingxue, his aesthetic sense insulted, looked at the hair clip, then took the little doll to another shelf.
“There are other colors here. Take a look.”
Xing Nuo, still refusing to wear the ugly hair clip, lay down on the shelf, refusing to cooperate.
Wen Xingxue poked his tummy and chuckled.
“Such a tiny thing, and already so stubborn.”
He found a sunflower-shaped hair clip and placed it on Xing Nuo’s head.
“How about this one?”
Xing Nuo, seeing his favorite sunflower, finally reacted and sat up.
He hugged the hair clip and nodded reluctantly.
Wen Xingxue clicked his tongue and put the little thing back in his pocket.
“Happy now? So picky about a hair clip.”
He went to the counter and handed the sunflower and red flower hair clips to the cashier.
“Both.”
The cashier, a small dog, its paws clicking on the keyboard, didn’t even look up.
“Two hundred toy coins. How would you like to pay?”
Wen Xingxue patted his empty pockets and placed his knife on the counter.
“I have no money.”
The dog’s expression turned sinister, and it slammed its paws on the counter, making the computer jump.
“No! You must pay! Or be eaten by me…”
Seeing the knife, its voice trailed off, and it picked up the computer, pretending to be busy.
“Haha, it’s okay if you don’t have money. We also accept player points!”
It rubbed its paws together, its tone now friendly and accommodating.
“We always prioritize customer satisfaction! You can pay however you like!”
Wen Xingxue hummed, tapped his wristwatch against the payment device, and said:
“Payment complete. Two thousand points.”
Players could earn around two thousand points after clearing a low-level D-level dungeon.
And here, two hair clips cost two thousand points!
The other players, who were trying to earn money, finally realized Toy Town’s delayed malice.
Everything here was ridiculously expensive, and the exchange rate for points was ten to one!
Thinking about tomorrow’s rent and the upcoming Toy Doll Exhibition, they couldn’t help but cry tears of poverty.
But for Wen Xingxue, this was nothing.
He took the two hair clips and muttered to the little doll in his pocket:
“See? You’re so picky. One hair clip isn’t enough. You need two.”
Xing Nuo, unjustly blamed, yawned and ignored him.
Who was the one who insisted on entering the accessory shop and picking out that ugly red flower clip?
But Wen Xingxue, having bought the hair clips, seemed to be in a good mood.
Before they even reached home, he started trying the hair clips on the clown doll.
Seeing Xing Nuo ignoring him, his chin resting on his hand, looking bored, Wen Xingxue amused himself.
