Chapter 68
Previous dungeon rules never specifically mentioned real-world humans.
Because before this, dungeons had never merged with the real world on such a large scale.
Shen Yan, as one of the core monsters of the horror world, knew his world was populated only by monsters.
As for humans…
He wasn’t sure when these creatures had appeared, then entered the monsters’ domains, struggling to survive.
Shen Yan had acquired and merged countless dungeons, but even he couldn’t pinpoint when the conflict between human players and monster dungeons had begun.
Monsters craved human flesh and blood, while human players fought to survive, gaining abilities and props.
Central City was the only exception, a safe haven for players, inaccessible to dungeon monsters.
That’s why Shen Yan and Shen Wen hadn’t been able to find Xing Nuo immediately when he was turned into a doll.
Unlike other core monsters who looked down on players, Shen Yan never underestimated human strength.
These resilient, tenacious creatures, although weak and fragile, always found a way to survive, even in the direst situations.
Every time they escaped danger, they pushed their limits further.
Now, almost all of Shen Yan’s dungeons, except for the S+ level and above, were constantly being challenged by players.
The players were getting stronger.
Shen Yan had sensed this shift, which was why he had come to the human world after Xing Nuo’s birth.
But he hadn’t expected this…
A dungeon merging with the real world, bringing the rules of the horror world into the human world?
Shen Yan, meticulous in his dungeon management, had never encountered such a situation.
Except for the school dungeon where Shen Baizhou had appeared. Something similar had happened there.
Shen Yan’s gaze darkened as he looked through the window of the play area, seeing the thug players on the second floor, their guns raised, casually taking human lives.
The first and second floors had become their killing grounds.
Ordinary humans, powerless against these ability users, were being slaughtered.
The shop assistants who had looked down on the thug leader were dragged to the first floor and dismembered.
Shen Yan knew Xing Nuo couldn’t see the carnage below, but he still instinctively covered his eyes.
Every species has its scum.
Having gained a bit of power, they acted like gods in front of ordinary humans, eager to show off.
Proving their strength by preying on the weak was pathetic.
The shoppers in the mall, panicked, fled to the third and fourth floors.
The thugs, having “punished” the shop assistants, looked up at the terrified crowd and laughed.
“This is so much fun! We need more dungeons like this!”
“Dao-ge, imagine if the whole world was dragged into a dungeon! That would be chaos! Hahaha!”
The thugs, reveling in the chaos, waved their prop knives and the guns they had taken from the mall, their eyes glinting sinisterly as they looked at the people on the upper floors.
“Let’s see, next stop, the fourth floor!”
Dao-ge touched the scar on his face, lost in thought.
“There’s a play area there. I used to spend all my money on those racing games. Time for a rematch!”
His voice wasn’t loud, but in the otherwise silent mall, the people in the play area on the fourth floor heard him clearly.
A mother, holding her child tightly, felt a surge of fear.
A few high school students, their initial fear replaced by anger, clenched their fists.
“Those bastards! If they come up here, we’ll fight them!”
“Yeah, there are so many of us! We can take them down!”
“What’s happening to this world?! Why are there people like this?!”
The teenagers, driven by impulse and instinct, declared their intention to fight.
Shen Yan picked up Xing Nuo from the ride and held him protectively.
Xing Nuo, although not understanding everything, sensed the adults’ anxiety.
“Big Brother, bad men coming up?”
Shen Yan patted Xing Nuo’s head and put his little hat on.
“It’s okay, even if they come.”
Xing Nuo nodded, patted his brother’s arm, and, imitating his dad, said:
“No ‘fraid, no ‘fraid. Zaizai pwotect you.”
Shen Yan chuckled, pinching Xing Nuo’s cheek.
“You’ll protect me? You’re that strong?”
Xing Nuo nodded vigorously, showing his clenched fists.
“Zaizai vewy stwong! Zaizai has widdle sword…beat all bad men!”
He remembered defeating the lizard monster with his little wooden sword and was confident in his own strength.
He felt like, with his little wooden sword, he could fight the evil dragon for three hundred rounds!
And Zaizai would win!
Too bad he hadn’t brought his sword today.
Xing Nuo, no longer afraid, looked up, waiting for the bad men to arrive, ready to punch them!
The glass doors of the play area shattered, a thug having blasted them open with something.
“Hahaha, look at all these people!”
Dao-ge, carrying his weapon, entered, looking at the cowering people, and struck a pose, pushing his hair back.
“So, enjoying the games? I used to spend all my allowance here!”
He walked over to an arcade machine, a nostalgic look on his face.
“I miss those days, spending all my time playing games here.”
One of his underlings quickly chimed in:
“Dao-ge, if you want to play, we’ll just chase everyone out! You can play all you want!”
Dao-ge laughed and raised his weapon, looking around.
“Why chase them out? This is my territory now!”
His gaze landed on Xing Nuo, whose light golden curls stood out among the other children with black hair.
“What’s a foreign kid doing here?” he asked.
Xing Nuo shook his head vigorously, pointing at himself.
“Zaizai not foreign kid.”
One of the thugs clicked his tongue and sneered at Xing Nuo.
“You are what we say you are, brat. Don’t talk back.”
Xing Nuo frowned, his fists clenching, about to lunge at the thug, when Shen Yan pulled him back.
“Don’t.”
Shen Yan held Xing Nuo protectively, his eyes cold and hard as he looked at the thugs.
Dao-ge hated that condescending look.
It reminded him of his days as a street thug, a nobody, wasting his life in arcades, looked down upon by everyone.
He cursed, smashed a nearby table with his knife, and angrily walked towards Shen Yan and Xing Nuo.
“You bastard! You dare look at me like that?! You’re dead!”
Xing Nuo, seeing the bad man approaching, yelled and swung his fists, ready to fight, but the next moment, the thug collapsed to the floor.
Xing Nuo, his tiny fists still clenched, lifted his chin and huffed proudly.
“Zaizai vewy stwong!”
The bad man had fallen without him even having to do anything!
The other people in the play area, seeing Shen Yan’s effortless takedown, stared in awe.
“Holy crap, how did he do that?”
“He just raised his hand? That’s insane!”
“There’s a hidden Big Boss among us!”
Xing Nuo, his sharp hearing picking up their praises, couldn’t help but smile, his cheeks turning red, even though he was trying to keep a straight face.
He giggled, covering his mouth.
That’s right, Zaizai is stwong!
Dao-ge’s underlings hurried over to help him up. They exchanged confused glances.
“What happened? What did you do to me?!” Dao-ge yelled at Shen Yan.
Shen Yan just tapped Xing Nuo’s head, telling him to be quiet and stop fidgeting.
“Nothing. You’re just too weak.” He didn’t even bother looking at them, his tone dismissive.
There were strong human players, like Wen Xingxue, who had even challenged SSS+ level dungeons, injuring or even destroying the core monsters.
But people like Dao-ge, who disregarded human life, weren’t among them.
Shen Yan looked down on them, his eyes filled with indifference.
Xing Nuo, his hand on his head where his brother had tapped him, shook his curls and chimed in:
“Yes! You too weak! Zaizai defeat you in one punch!”
Shen Yan, looking down at the boastful little one, chuckled and shook his head.
“Behave.”
Xing Nuo huffed and snuggled against his brother, slightly displeased.
Dao-ge, having been humiliated, stood up, his face contorted, his eyes filled with rage.
“Weak? Heh, how many B-level players are there? I clawed my way to where I am today, and he dares look down on me?!”
He narrowed his eyes, his gaze like a cockroach lurking in the shadows, fixed on Shen Yan.
He slowly took out his favorite weapon from his spatial storage, ready to attack, when a loud crash echoed from below, as if half the building had collapsed.
The female player who had been keeping watch downstairs rushed in, her face pale, her voice panicked.
“Dao-ge, the monster…the monster is here! It’s back!”
The players’ objective in the mall dungeon was to avoid the monster.
But after merging with the real world, the thugs could no longer sense the monster’s presence.
That’s why they had been so carefree, causing chaos and killing people.
