Chapter 42: The Phone Call
Fei Luo, who came down the stairs first, held his little brother’s hand and was stunned for a moment before he answered, “Maybe… right?”
Fei Luo didn’t really understand what a home visit meant either. It was just that when the teacher found him during the break, she had instructed him to have an adult at home answer the phone.
But there doesn’t seem to be an adult here now, Fei Luo thought, tilting his head.
“I am… I am brother’s family. What does the teacher want to… talk to Nuonuo about?”
Nuonuo had never received a phone call from anyone before. At the mention of this, he forgot the sadness from just now, his little eyes filled with anticipation.
I have a feeling the teacher doesn’t want to talk to Nuonuo…
Fei Luo stood there in a dilemma for a while. Seeing that the phone had been ringing for too long, he had no choice but to take his little brother and run over, gently picking up the receiver.
Although mobile phones were very common now, the villa’s living room and study still had landlines. Fei Luo was still young and didn’t have a mobile phone, so the phone number he had left at school was the landline number.
Generally, all incoming calls would be answered by the butler, who would then report to Fei Zhiyan. But today, the butler, Keith, happened to be out with Fei Jing, so Fei Luo picked it up himself.
“Hello? Is this little student Fei Luo? This is Teacher Xiao Hua. Good noon!”
Teacher Xiao Hua’s tone was very gentle, the kind of teacher who sounded very good-tempered.
This was the first time Fei Luo had received a phone call from a teacher. Although he was usually withdrawn, he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous, his grip on his little brother’s hand tightening slightly.
“This is Fei Luo. Hello, teacher.”
Teacher Xiao Hua didn’t beat around the bush. After a simple greeting with Fei Luo, she got straight to the point. “Is Fei Luo’s family member there? Can I speak to them?”
Fei Luo subconsciously nodded, then remembered that the teacher couldn’t see him and quickly hummed in agreement.
Nuonuo stretched his little face to listen to what his brother was saying, his little mouth unconsciously open. Hearing that the teacher wanted to talk to him, his eyes lit up as if a small light bulb had been turned on.
Taking the receiver, Nuonuo greeted the teacher in a milky and very polite voice. “Hewwo, teacher. I… I am Nuonuo.”
The teacher on the other end of the line was stunned for a moment, unable to help but fall into a silence. In those few seconds of silence, she even started a frantic brainstorm, including but not limited to Fei Luo’s pitiful family situation where only he and another younger brother were left, or Fei Luo playing a prank and finding a little child, and so on.
Nuonuo, not hearing the teacher speak, held the phone a little further away from him and held it up to his brother in confusion. “This is bwoken. The teacher is gone, ya!”
Fei Luo also pursed his lips strangely. Just as he was about to reach out and tap the receiver, he heard a voice from the other side. “It’s not broken. The teacher is still here.”
Hearing Nuonuo’s words, Teacher Xiao Hua couldn’t help but smile, her eyes crinkling. She coughed lightly before continuing. “Nuonuo, is it? Why did you answer the phone for your brother? Where is Fei Luo’s family?”
Hearing the teacher speak again, Nuonuo let out a happy “ya,” swung his little legs, and then answered strangely, “I am, ya. I am brother’s family!”
Although he had heard this sentence once before, when Nuonuo said it again so naturally, Fei Luo still felt that the color of the sky had brightened a little. Even though they were indoors and couldn’t see the sky at all.
Suppressing the little bud of joy that had sprouted in his heart, Fei Luo couldn’t help but twist the corner of his clothes with his fingers before looking up at his little brother.
Nuonuo was still flashing his little baby teeth, grinning at his brother.
Fei Luo also curled his lips and answered the teacher. “Teacher, my other family members are all busy. Only my little brother is here.”
Teacher Xiao Hua’s personality was also really good. After a little thought, she understood that Nuonuo had probably misunderstood her meaning. She sighed with a bit of exasperation and then said, “It’s my fault for not considering it. I should have made an appointment with them in advance. When do you think they’ll be free? I’ll call back then.”
Fei Luo thought carefully for a while. Before he could answer, he saw his eldest brother, who had changed his clothes, coming down the stairs towards them. “What’s wrong? Whose phone call is it?”
Fei Han saw Fei Luo’s troubled look and asked.
Nuonuo saw his eldest brother and blinked his eyes a little shyly, his previously lively tone now tinged with a bit of bashfulness. “It’s the teacher. She’s talking to Nuonuo.”
The teacher also heard Nuonuo’s words and really couldn’t hold it in, covering her lips and laughing out loud.
Fei Han’s cold eyes blinked in confusion. He glanced at Fei Luo, signaling him to explain.
Fei Luo’s cheeks also turned a little red, and he stood there and explained in a low voice.
After listening, Fei Han turned his head and saw Nuonuo, who was still waiting with a bewildered look for the teacher to speak. He pressed his forehead with his fingers.
Sighing lightly, Fei Han took the receiver from Nuonuo’s small hands. “Alright, I’ll talk. Fei Luo, you take Nuonuo to eat first.”
It’s true that if you don’t watch him for a while, this little one will cause some trouble. Fei Han, no matter how calm and rational, couldn’t help but feel a little helpless for this little dumpling for a few seconds.
Nuonuo was pulled away by Fei Luo, and he looked back at his eldest brother in confusion. “I was talking to the teacher, ya!”
Fei Han found that he really didn’t know what to do with this little thing. He wanted to explain it clearly to Nuonuo, but the other might not necessarily understand. Children’s thoughts are always so strange, Fei Han couldn’t help but think.
It was Auntie Wu who also came over and quickly said with a smile, “There are crab roe buns that Nuonuo likes today. They won’t be as delicious if they get cold.”
Nuonuo indeed stopped dwelling on talking to the teacher, let out a little “ya,” and quickly grabbed his brother’s hand, running towards the dining room. His fine, soft hair bounced up and down, and he didn’t even forget to turn his head and shout to his eldest brother, “Brother, come, ya. Eat buns!”
Only then did Fei Han realize that in Nuonuo’s heart, eating was probably the most important thing. And in the most important things, there was always the shadow of his several older brothers.
At this thought, Fei Han’s heart suddenly softened. He slightly avoided Nuonuo’s eager gaze and gestured for Auntie Wu to follow.
After the living room became quiet, Fei Han calmed himself down and then began the interview with the teacher.
Knowing that the teacher was looking for his little brother because he had slept in class, Fei Han promised, “Little Luo probably didn’t sleep well because Fei Jing went to chat with him last night. This situation probably won’t happen again in the future.”
After all, Fei Jing is now immersed in the sea of knowledge and can’t extricate himself.
The teacher knew this reason and couldn’t help but frown. “Who is Fei Jing? How can he disturb a child’s sleep just because he wants to chat? You know, if you don’t sleep well…”
As she spoke, Teacher Xiao Hua, who was a half-fan, suddenly sensed something was not right. “Fei Jing?! Which Fei Jing?”
It can’t be the one she’s thinking of, right?!
Teacher Xiao Hua was dazed for a moment before she suddenly remembered that Fei Luo and Fei Jing had the same surname! This surname was not common, and there was no one else in Yunzhou with the name Fei Jing…
Her heart pounded with excitement for a few seconds. Teacher Xiao Hua took a sip of water and tried her best to calm down. No matter what, she was a teacher at the school now and couldn’t lose her composure just because a student’s brother was a top celebrity.
But that’s Fei Jing! Teacher Xiao Hua’s eyes couldn’t help but light up. No wonder Fei Luo’s looks are so high. It turns out they’re brothers!
Fei Han was also silent for a moment. He had forgotten that Fei Jing was also an idol, who had attracted many girls with that flashy face of his. “I’ll have to trouble you to continue to teach him well in the future.”
Changing the subject with a cold tone, Fei Han chatted with the calmed-down teacher for a couple of sentences and was about to hang up.
Before hanging up, the teacher thought of the misunderstanding that had happened today and couldn’t help but say with a smile, “Your little brother Nuonuo is really cute.”
For a while in the middle, the teacher had been so amused by Nuonuo’s words that she couldn’t stop laughing.
Fei Han thought of Nuonuo’s serious look just now, and a hint of a smile unconsciously appeared in his lowered eyes. “He’s alright.”
Being a little modest, Fei Han hung up and walked towards the dining room.
In the dining room, Nuonuo, who was already hungry, was drinking his soup in big gulps, so much so that his little forehead was covered in a layer of sweat.
To be honest, it was also the first time Fei Han had seen someone eat so seriously and diligently, as if the whole world were blocked out, with only the food in the bowl in front of them.
Finally full, Nuonuo let out a burp and then quickly covered his mouth with his little hands. Seeing Fei Luo and Fei Han looking at him, he even shyly pursed his lips. “I’m full—”
As Nuonuo spoke, he pushed the crab roe bun on his plate towards Fei Han. “Eldest Brother eat, ya. If you’re late, there won’t be any left!”
The chef had only made one steamer of crab roe buns, and since the steamer was small, it could only fit four. Fei Jing had taken two to eat on the road when he left earlier, and the remaining two, the chef had thought, would be just right for the two little ones, Fei Luo and Nuonuo, to have one each. There were many dishes for lunch, so there was no need to make another steamer of buns.
Nuonuo had also been drooling over the buns, but after giving one to Fei Luo, he found that there were none left on the plate. The little glutton held the bun in a daze for a while and then put it back. If he ate it, then his eldest brother wouldn’t have any to eat later.
Fei Han heard Auntie Wu explain a few sentences on the side. Seeing the seriousness and joy in Nuonuo’s eyes, his heart couldn’t help but skip a beat.
Seeing that his eldest brother wasn’t speaking, Nuonuo thought his voice was too low and his brother hadn’t heard, so he said it again. “Brother, eat the cwab bun, ya!”
Fei Han could see the greedy look in Nuonuo’s eyes when he spoke of the bun, but even so, he still gave it to him.
Lowering his head, his hair blocked Fei Han’s eyes, just enough to hide his not-so-calm mood at the moment.
Fei Han felt that the feeling of being cared for by someone was really very nice.
Reaching out to pick up the bun, Fei Han tilted his chin up and said to Nuonuo, “Open your mouth.”
Nuonuo let out a confused “ah,” opened his little mouth, and in the next second, a small bun was stuffed into it. The slightly salty and sweet taste of the crab roe filled his entire mouth, and the delicious taste made Nuonuo unconsciously narrow his eyes, his little feet swinging along.
Having eaten something delicious, Nuonuo’s mood was filled with a fragrant and sweet taste until he took his nap.
At the same time, Wen Yuan’s day was not going so well.
After leaving the villa, Fei Zhiyan didn’t even go to the council building but had the driver take him to the square where Wen Yuan was.
Wen Yuan now didn’t go home much during the day. She sat alone on the edge of a flower bed in the square, both anxious and thinking about how to get close to Nuonuo again.
This time, she didn’t know if it was because the time was half a year earlier, but Nuonuo was clearly not very close to her. In her previous life, when she went to sign the contract, Fei Nuo’s eyes had been so dependent on her.
Where did it go wrong?
Just as she was thinking, Wen Yuan looked up and saw a few men in black walking towards her.
