Chapter 68: Sending an Umbrella
A bolt of lightning split the dark, gloomy sky.
The sound seemed to explode right above his head, and Grandpa Gu, who had been immersed in his own thoughts, suddenly woke up.
The light from the bedroom overhead shone on Fei Jing’s delicate, fair face. He tapped on the desk and said slowly, “It’s about to rain outside. I didn’t bring an umbrella, so…” Fei Jing relaxed and leaned back in his chair. “Let’s make it quick.”
Grandpa Gu looked at Fei Jing’s light-colored eyes, which were as bright as stars under the lamplight. The thick coldness and killing intent in them made him can’t help but shiver. “You want to kill someone? That’s illegal!”
Grandpa Gu’s hands were behind his back. As he spoke, he gathered all the energy in his body into his hands.
He had been very diligent in his missions before and had accumulated a lot of energy. In addition, the energy the system had lent him had not been used to travel through space, so he still had a considerable amount of energy that he could use.
But a part of this energy was something the system had repeatedly warned him never to use.
Once the mission was successful, they could use this spare energy to activate the shut-down system and travel back to their original timeline.
But at this moment, Grandpa Gu felt that he couldn’t go back.
The mission would not be successful. All of them would be left in this dark and terrifying world.
The moment Grandpa Gu thought of the terrifying scene from his illusion becoming a reality, a wave of coldness surged in his heart.
Perhaps he would be buried in this rainy night.
Nuonuo lay on the bed, woken up by a bolt of lightning. He rubbed his little eyes and sat up in a daze.
The dark night outside was like a terrifying, pitch-black beast, its mouth wide open as if it were about to devour the weak humans on the ground.
Nuonuo had pretended to be asleep to fool his papa, but he had really fallen asleep with his eyes closed. Now that he was awake, he quickly got off the bed with his bottom in the air and stood on his tiptoes to look out the window.
006, who had also been in hibernation, happened to come online and saw Nuonuo looking at the sky outside. It asked in confusion, “Nuonuo, what are you looking at? It’s pitch black outside, there’s nothing there.”
Nuonuo’s clear, glass-like eyes stared unblinkingly in a certain direction, and he unconsciously licked his pink lips. “It smells so good over there!”
Nuonuo pointed his little finger precisely in the direction of the Lei family’s villa.
006 let out a confused “huh?” “Is the Lei family eating something delicious?”
The moment Nuonuo heard “delicious,” his little eyes instantly lit up, and he asked impatiently, “Is it meat? I like to eat meat!”
006 didn’t know either, but the smell of roasted meat was indeed very fragrant. And there was a wind outside, so it was probably carried over by the wind when they were roasting meat. “Maybe. But it’s thundering outside. It should be raining soon.”
Thinking of something, Nuonuo’s little brow suddenly furrowed, and his tone couldn’t help but become a little anxious. “Brother went out, ya, without an umbwella.”
When Fei Jing and Fei Luo went out, they thought they had hidden it well, but Nuonuo had seen them from the window. The clingy little thing had originally wanted to go with them. But his voice was too small, and Fei Jing and Fei Luo hadn’t heard him at all.
And so, Nuonuo could only prop his chin on his hands and watch as their figures disappeared into the small path leading to the Lei family’s house.
“I’ll go and give my brothers an umbwella, ya!”
Nuonuo, huffing and puffing, found his little umbrella from the cabinet and ran down, wanting to send an umbrella to his brothers.
“It’s too late. Nuonuo, don’t go!”
Seeing Nuonuo run out of the courtyard, 006 said anxiously. “They’re so big. They’ll definitely come home before the rain starts!”
006 was very biased towards its own little cub and didn’t like these annoying villains like Fei Jing and Fei Luo at all! It was already dark, and Nuonuo, who was so small, still had to go out and send them an umbrella. What if something happened on the way?!
But Nuonuo didn’t listen. After he went out, it was as if all he could see was the Lei family’s villa not far away. He was still too young. Besides worrying about his brothers, there was another voice in his mind constantly urging him to go there quickly, that there was something delicious waiting for him there.
It was a longing from the depths of his soul. Although Nuonuo had eaten his fill at dinner, at this moment, he still felt very, very hungry.
Without Nuonuo even realizing it, he ran extremely fast, as if he were flying. In the blink of an eye, he was in front of the small building in the backyard of the Lei family’s house.
006 was so worried and anxious, but when it came back to its senses, it found that its own cub was already standing at the Lei family’s door! Can a two- or three-year-old child be so fast?
006’s mind was filled with question marks.
But before he could ask, Nuonuo had already rushed up the stairs, stood in front of Gu Ze’s door, and knocked on it with his little hands. “Hello! Is anyone home?”
The hunger in his soul made Nuonuo a little anxious, but he still politely knocked on the door and didn’t just barge in.
Seeing Nuonuo go upstairs just now, 006 was completely stunned. He hadn’t used his legs at all. An unknown spiritual power had spread out from his body, pushing him directly upstairs.
006 was dazed for a moment, its operating speed even slowing down. It even forgot to ask why Nuonuo had run directly to Gu Ze’s door instead of anywhere else in the Lei family’s house.
Nuonuo knocked on the door twice, but the sound of his knocking was covered by a bolt of lightning from outside, and no one inside heard.
Unable to help but feel a little anxious, he stood on his tiptoes and knocked twice more.
But just as he lowered his hand, the door opened by itself.
Nuonuo tilted his little head in confusion, not knowing what was going on. But the fragrant smell was becoming more and more obvious, making Nuonuo’s stomach can’t help but rumble a couple of times. Without thinking any further, he walked in with his little feet.
“Gu Ze, are you there? I’m coming in.”
Holding his umbrella, Nuonuo’s eyes shone with a crystal-like light even in the pitch-black darkness.
Although Gu Ze’s house was a two-bedroom, one-living-room layout, the living room was very small, and you could see everything almost at a glance after entering.
Nuonuo took two steps and saw Gu Ze standing at the bedroom door. The other had his head lowered, his eyes downcast, as if he had been standing there for a long time, so long that he had almost become a cold, ice-like sculpture.
Gu Ze’s expression was completely hidden in the darkness. The hair on his forehead blocked his eyes, and there was not a single bit of light on his body, as if he had really melted into the darkness.
Seeing Gu Ze at home, Nuonuo ran over. The hunger deep in his heart subsided a little, and he tilted his little head and asked him, “Gu Ze, why didn’t you turn on the lights? It’s so dark.”
Although he had also just run through the darkness, it was only when he saw Gu Ze that Nuonuo seemed to react. He couldn’t help but shrink his little shoulders and look at the dark environment with a bit of fear.
Hearing Nuonuo’s words, Gu Ze’s frozen body seemed to regain a bit of feeling. He lifted his head and couldn’t help but look up at the sky along with Nuonuo’s gaze.
Indeed, it’s pitch black, not a single bit of light.
Gu Ze felt his hands were so cold. Although it was a stuffy summer night, he still felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar.
Perhaps even the sky falling would not be like this, Gu Ze thought.
So his grandfather really was long gone.
At this thought, Gu Ze’s heart tightened slightly, and he couldn’t help but feel a pang of pain.
From the moment Fei Jing and Fei Luo entered his house, Gu Ze had sensed them.
This house was not very soundproof, and Gu Ze was a very light sleeper. When Grandpa Gu was trapped in the zombie illusion, Gu Ze had heard his suppressed, fearful cries.
There was a moment of hesitation on his face, but in the end, Gu Ze still pushed open his bedroom door, wanting to see if his grandfather had been scared by a nightmare.
But the moment his fingers touched the doorknob, Gu Ze heard the sound of a conversation between Grandpa Gu and Fei Jing from inside the door.
As if possessed, Gu Ze did not push the door open but stood outside and listened to the whole thing.
If it had been any other three-year-old child, they might not have understood what the two were talking about and would have only been scared. After all, it was so dark tonight, and from time to time, painful wails would come from his grandfather’s bedroom, as if something were entangled with him, piercing his skin bit by bit, sucking away all his energy.
But Gu Ze was not scared at all. He just stood silently outside the door, and it was only in a daze that he understood. So that’s how it is.
No wonder the previously stern and serious grandfather who was always scolding was gone, replaced by this always-smiling but very fake “grandfather.”
It turns out that soul and body are two different things.
But Gu Ze was still young, after all. He didn’t understand what transmigration and energy were and could only understand this matter on a very superficial level.
Nuonuo saw Gu Ze dazing off again and couldn’t help but wave his little hand in front of him, pursing his lips in confusion. But it was too dark around, and Nuonuo was so scared he tugged at Gu Ze’s clothes with his little hands and asked in his milky voice, “Gu Ze, where is the wight switch, ya?”
Nuonuo wanted to turn on the light so it wouldn’t be so dark.
Gu Ze sensed his clothes being tugged, blinked his eyes unconsciously, and turned his head slightly to see Nuonuo’s eyes, which were shining even in the darkness.
Gu Ze felt that at that moment, his soul seemed to have returned to his body.
He didn’t know how to describe it, but he suddenly felt everything around him—the dark living room, the sound of thunder, and the damp air… and even Nuonuo’s little arm, which was leaning against his and trembling slightly.
When he heard a scream from the bedroom again, Gu Ze subconsciously covered Nuonuo’s ears with his cool little hands.
Fortunately, the lightning outside was coming one after another, and Grandpa Gu’s miserable screams were hidden in the sound of the thunder, so Nuonuo didn’t hear at all.
Gu Ze finally lowered his hands after a long while, stood on his tiptoes, stretched his arms, and with a click, turned on the living room light.
In an instant, light once again fell at the feet of the two little ones.
The sound in the living room naturally attracted Fei Jing’s attention. He thought of that grandson of Grandpa Gu and frowned slightly.
He could have dealt with Grandpa Gu quietly today, but he still made a noise and let Gu Ze notice.
He didn’t know why, but Fei Jing’s psychology was very contradictory. On the one hand, he felt annoyed and wanted to scare that brat.
On the other hand, thinking of how Gu Ze had held his little brother’s hand today and asked with concern if he was hurt from the fall, Fei Jing felt that perhaps that child should also know the truth.
He had more right than anyone to know the truth, even though he was just a child.
Fei Jing pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed lightly. Just as he was thinking of quickly dealing with it and leaving, he suddenly heard his little brother’s milky voice.
“Gu Ze, your house smells so good. Are you eating meat?”
