Chapter 36 p2
The backpack was waterproof. Bai Qingyu threw in a handful of wet sand so the clams wouldn’t dry out.
The big one and the small one, with their round eyes, were like a big cat teaching a kitten to patrol mouse holes, moving forward on the beach.
The aunties were right, there were so many clams, even a blind cat could find a dead mouse, let alone two big cats with good eyesight.
Half an hour later, both of them were covered in mud. Bai Qingyu put the backpack on the ground and opened it for Cha Bao to see, “We’ve dug so many free clams.”
Bai Xiaocha, “Enough for Baby to eat, not enough for Dad and Uncle Boss.”
Bai Qingyu, “Yes, let’s keep digging.”
They unknowingly arrived at the rocky area by the sea. Many small snails, turret shells, whelks, and pen shells were growing in the crevices.
“Enough clams, let’s pick some sea snails.”
The obvious spots had been picked clean, but there were still many in the narrow crevices.
Where adults couldn’t reach, the little one could.
“We’re counting on you, Baby.”
“Okay!” Bai Xiaocha squeezed into the crevice, his small body fitting perfectly. If he had eaten a little more, his belly wouldn’t have fit. He picked the sea snails off the rocks one by one. The sea snails were attached very tightly, requiring some effort.
The little tea deity had plenty of strength for eating.
He picked and put them into the backpack, “Dad, there are also sea urchins.”
“Take them all.” Bai Qingyu took out his phone, wanting to take a video of Cha Bao’s first time at the seaside for Old Man Deng, but found that it was dead.
Oh, he had been playing garment-making videos on the way to kindergarten, wanting to make more comfortable clothes for Cha Bao. Watching videos drained the battery too quickly.
Bai Qingyu put his phone away, “Dad will help you.”
Two young women also came to the beach to film videos. They saw Cha Bao stuck in the crevice, diligently digging for snails, and their eyes were glued to him.
“Oh my god, I can tell this is an unclaimed baby, we can take him.”
“Although he’s a bit dirty, we can just wash him when we get back.”
“So cute, what a little angel!”
“Auntie, how do you know I’m an angel baby?” Bai Xiaocha scratched the back of his head with his dirty hand and asked his dad in confusion.
Bai Qingyu, “Angel is an adjective, praising Baby for being good and cute.”
“Oh!” Bai Xiaocha used all his might to pry off a snail, the baby fat on his cheeks trembling with the effort.
It was getting dark. The people on the beach called out to each other to go back, the tide was coming in.
Bai Qingyu asked reluctantly, “Baby, do you want to go to school or dig for snails tomorrow?”
Cha Bao, “Dad, dig for snails!”
The father and son reached an agreement again. Bai Qingyu smiled, “Then let’s come early tomorrow.”
Both father and son looked like they were destined to work in a factory, it was quite touching.
The backpack was full of spoils, heavy with sea snails and mud.
“Dad, I’ll carry the backpack.” Bai Xiaocha said, unaware of his own limitations.
Bai Qingyu, “Then try it.”
The moment the backpack was on Bai Xiaocha’s shoulders, he fell on his butt, splashing water everywhere, a little dumbfounded, then he started laughing with his dad.
So fun.
Bai Qingyu carried the backpack in one hand and the child in the other, walking ashore. His phone was dead, but luckily he liked to carry cash.
Their pants were wet, their faces muddy, and there was sand in their hair. Only their four tea-colored eyes were clean and dust-free. Bai Qingyu was afraid of dirtying the seats, so he and Bai Xiaocha squatted in a corner, pretending to be mushrooms, and quietly discussed the evening’s menu.
“Huh? Why does the food delivery take an hour and a half today? It’s not even rush hour.”
“There are no delivery drivers. I heard that many delivery drivers are taking orders for missing person notices.”
“Looking for who?”
“Not sure, probably a rich person lost their cat.” The two young people chatted as they got off the bus.
“We’re here, Cha Bao, get off.” Bai Qingyu held Cha Bao, happily planning, “We’ll also make clam noodles and stir-fried snails, with a little chili.”
He observed that He Renyuan could eat a little spicy food. When he first arrived at the He family, there were spicy dishes on the table. Later, probably to accommodate the child who couldn’t eat spicy food, He Renyuan also ate bland food.
“Your uncle will definitely be happy.”
Just as he finished speaking, before taking two steps, he bumped into the anxious housekeeper.
“Qingyu? Cha Bao! You’re finally back!” The housekeeper almost didn’t recognize them. After confirming, he immediately called He Renyuan, “Young master, they’re home, they’re both fine.”
“Where did you go? Why are you covered in this?”
“We went to the seaside.” Bai Qingyu pursed his lips. The brightly lit villa was like a lighthouse at sea, waiting for the ship to return. He realized belatedly that he and Cha Bao seemed to have worried the housekeeper.
In the past, when they were in Wuyi Mountain, Old Man Deng knew his identity. When he felt like taking Cha Bao into the mountains for a day or two, he didn’t always inform Old Man Deng in advance. Immortals came and went without a trace, and Old Man Deng never asked.
“Sorry, my phone died.”
“Don’t apologize, it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s just that the young master was very worried.”
A car screeched to a stop on the side of the road. He Renyuan got out of the car, slammed the door, and strode towards Bai Qingyu, his tall figure intimidating.
Bai Qingyu saw that something was wrong. The young master’s eyes were fierce, and his eyes were red. He wisely put down the little one first. Bai Xiaocha couldn’t wait to show off his harvest, dragging the backpack on the ground, leaving a long water stain.
Before He Renyuan reached Bai Qingyu, Cha Bao hugged his leg.
Bai Xiaocha opened his backpack, just like He Renyuan opening his hiking backpack full of snacks on Huangshan. He imitated him, “All for Uncle Boss.”
He Renyuan saw the backpack full of snails and knew what they had been doing after school. Both of them were dirty, and yet no passerby recognized them.
Bai Xiaocha, “Uncle Boss, are you happy?”
He Renyuan squeezed out two words through gritted teeth, “Happy.”
The white cat had become a gray cat from catching mice, and he even brought the mice home for him to eat. Of course, he was happy.
He was almost going crazy looking for them, of course he should be happy to see them.
This father and son should have GPS trackers on them! Even if they went to heaven or earth!
Money couldn’t keep the tea deity, then what about love?
He Renyuan admitted it, he was smitten. He wanted to make a wish to the tea deity, to ask Bai Qingyu for his affections. He was just a mortal, he couldn’t escape emotions and desires.
So what?
He Renyuan calmed down in a few seconds. Admitting that he liked Bai Qingyu was as normal as liking tea.
“Have Auntie Liu stir-fry the sea snails, you two go take a shower and change your clothes.”
He Renyuan gave instructions, “I’ll bathe Cha Bao, you quickly clean yourself up.”
Bai Qingyu, “Oh.” Judging by He Renyuan’s expression, it seemed like everything was okay?
Half an hour later, Bai Qingyu and Cha Bao were both clean and fragrant, meeting downstairs.
They had been digging for snails until dark, their stomachs were rumbling. As soon as he smelled the stir-fried clams, Bai Xiaocha’s stomach growled.
“Dad, it smells so good.”
“Because Baby dug these snails himself.” Bai Qingyu pointed at the dishes on the table, moving the two with chili peppers in front of He Renyuan, “These two are for Young Master, Cha Bao can’t eat them.”
Bai Xiaocha had already taken a bite of rice and said with puffed cheeks, “I won’t eat them.”
Half an hour ago, He Renyuan’s stomach felt like it was filled with stones. Now, facing two plates of priceless snails dug by the tea deity, he lost all his temper.
It smelled quite good.
He would eat first and then talk.
The family of three ate their late dinner, and the others quietly went back to their rooms.
He Renyuan absentmindedly picked up a small snail and almost chipped his tooth when he put it in his mouth.
Damn.
He quickly spat it out. It was a stone that looked exactly like a snail.
Bai Qingyu, “Cha Bao picked it up.”
Bai Xiaocha licked the sauce from the clam shell, swallowed a mouthful of rice, and repeated habitually, “Baby picked it up.”
He Renyuan, “Thank you, Cha Bao.”
He put down his chopsticks and said, “I figured something out today.”
Bai Qingyu, “What?”
He Renyuan, “You saved my life, but you forgot.”
Bai Qingyu denied it without thinking, “Impossible, I even remember the diaper that fell from the cliff, why would I forget you falling from the same place? Are you even less important than a diaper?”
He Renyuan took a deep breath, there it was again, completely unreasonable.
“Then that’s your problem.”
He Renyuan spoke frankly, “I’ve decided to repay you by marrying you.”
Cha Bao was present, he didn’t hide it, he pursued him openly. Cha Bao would have no reason to hate him in the future.
He had considered a more subtle approach, but with Bai Qingyu’s thickheadedness, he would probably never get the hint.
Bai Qingyu was stunned for a long time, as if he had heard something absurd, “What do you mean?”
He Renyuan, “I mean, I, my feelings, my wealth, all for you.”
Bai Qingyu didn’t speak, his eyes wide as he stared at He Renyuan.
Bai Xiaocha, immersed in his meal, heard the keywords. The filial son immediately asked for his dad, “Uncle Boss, is it free?”
He Renyuan’s eyes lit up with a smile, “Yes, free, a gift, I’ll even pay extra.”
Bai Xiaocha nodded, “Dad, we can take it.”
Bai Qingyu, “Baby, some things can’t be taken even if they’re free.”
He struggled for a long time and finally thought of a word, “You’re extorting the tea deity!”
He Renyuan, “I am, so what?”
Bai Qingyu: “…” Were all lawyers like this?
