He was confessed to.
This time was different from the last.
The previous time had been at Fu Si Heng’s home, where he had gone to break up with Fu Si Heng. Fu Si Heng had suddenly confessed to him and revealed that he had actually known all along that he was male. Tao Zhi had been too shocked to feel much about the confession itself—only astonishment, disbelief, and… a quiet sense of revenge.
Now it was different.
He was still surprised.
But this surprise came from his plans being disrupted, and from Fu Si Heng being the one to speak first.
Since Fu Si Heng had asked him first, he didn’t need to say the embarrassing words he had prepared. He only needed to choose whether to accept or not.
This was a good thing for Tao Zhi.
Because he wasn’t good at such things.
Tao Zhi stared blankly at Fu Si Heng. Once he came back to his senses, his eyelashes trembled slightly a few times.
Fu Si Heng noticed and knew that Tao Zhi had recovered from his surprise.
He spoke first again: “Have you thought it over?”
“The first time you saw me, I was still a boy.” Tao Zhi asked doubtfully in a small voice, “Were you already bent before that?”
“No.” Fu Si Heng answered him.
“Then why—” did you fall for me at first sight?
Tao Zhi didn’t quite understand.
“I don’t know. I just naturally accepted it.” Fu Si Heng said.
His voice was diluted by the night wind, but the affection in his words burned hot and clear: “As long as it’s you, it’s fine. I never struggled with that sort of thing. Male or female doesn’t matter to me at all.”
When his gaze was drawn to him, when he received that first photo of his legs, when Tao Zhi sat in his lap and kissed him—Fu Si Heng had never thought about such things.
Straight or bent, he had never considered it.
He accepted it quickly, without any hesitation.
“I just fell in love with you at first sight.” Fu Si Heng said. “Gender wasn’t in my considerations.”
I-is that how it was?
Damn, his heartbeat suddenly sped up so much.
Tao Zhi looked at Fu Si Heng before him, at his serious brows and eyes, his low voice, and suddenly felt his heart getting a little out of control.
Thump thump thump.
Like a deer chaotically colliding.
The park at night was very quiet.
The people out for walks to blow off steam had mostly left in twos and threes. They stood by the lake, the surroundings silent, the lake surface tranquil. Only faint wind sounds and gradually fading chatter could be heard.
Tao Zhi felt he should say something, or else Fu Si Heng would probably hear his heartbeat.
If it really was heard, he would feel so embarrassed.
So, say something.
Tao Zhi pursed his lips, thought for a moment, then hurriedly spoke: “O-originally, it was like that, huh.”
He even nodded, looking like he had a sudden realization.
Such a silly, robotic reaction.
Fu Si Heng couldn’t help but laugh.
After laughing, he pressed: “Do you need a long time to think?”
It was fine; he could wait.
He didn’t say the last part. Tao Zhi shook his head, interrupting him: “No need for long.”
He had asked Fu Si Heng out today precisely to talk about this; he had just been preempted.
He had thought it through clearly.
But…
Even though Fu Si Heng had confessed first and Tao Zhi only needed to answer yes or no, at this moment, Tao Zhi felt that some words were necessary to tell Fu Si Heng too.
Even though he wasn’t good at such things.
But.
He had to say them.
“Brother Fu, I’ve thought it over. We can try dating.” Tao Zhi told him very solemnly.
His words were prim and proper; one could tell he was a little nervous. His fingers hanging at his side clenched tightly, but he bravely told Fu Si Heng his inner thoughts, holding nothing back, so that Fu Si Heng would realize his feelings too.
“It’s not an impulsive agreement. Before this, I thought about it very seriously, pondered this matter. I originally planned to ask you today; I didn’t expect you to say it first.”
“Brother Fu, I like you too. I want to try dating you too.”
“I also believe you’ll be a good boyfriend.”
Tao Zhi’s voice was gentle and warm, a bit soft, but his words were sincere and fervent.
And a little clumsy.
His nervous fingers still clenched, but the light in his eyes was the brightest thing in the night.
Fu Si Heng nearly drowned in those bright eyes.
His heart beat very fast too, uncontrollably.
The love in his heart overflowed.
He even forgot to respond.
Even though it was such an important moment.
Fu Si Heng looked at Tao Zhi, his gaze calm, but beneath it, surging waves of shock that could devour Tao Zhi whole.
And yet this little fool noticed nothing.
He still tilted up that innocent face, waiting for Fu Si Heng’s answer.
Why wasn’t he speaking?
Suddenly, there was no movement.
So strange.
Tao Zhi’s gaze shifted from shy excitement to confusion. Just as he was about to ask, Fu Si Heng suddenly cupped his face.
The man’s warm palms held him, and he lowered his head, nose tip brushing nose tip, their breaths quickly entwining.
“Can I kiss you?” Fu Si Heng’s voice was slightly hoarse, thick with desire and longing.
Tao Zhi froze.
Huh?
So fast?
They had just been confessing… Hadn’t he still been waiting for Fu Si Heng’s answer? How did it fast-forward straight to kissing?
