Tao Zhi held the clothes and stared blankly at Fu Si Heng for a good while.
He bought it?
Fu Si Heng bought it?
Why did he buy it?
Who was it for? Him?
Upon hearing Fu Si Heng’s words, a flood of questions instantly surged through Tao Zhi’s mind.
He seemed to know the answer to every single one, yet he dared not dwell on them.
He lowered his head to look at the clothes, then glanced at Fu Si Heng. He wouldn’t really plan to make him wear it, would he—
“President Fu, should these be delivered directly to your home?”
Just as Tao Zhi’s emotions grew complicated, Assistant Ji came downstairs carrying several evening gowns, interrupting their conversation.
Fu Si Heng turned his head and hummed in acknowledgment.
“Got it.” Assistant Ji responded and soon drove away.
While they spoke, Tao Zhi slipped out from the back seat.
He had no clothes in hand and, like burying his head in the sand, quietly stuffed the little black dress into the deepest part of the box, piling lots of things on top of it. No one should discover that he had hidden it.
Moreover, Fu Si Heng had been talking to Assistant Ji just now and hadn’t noticed his movements at all.
After hiding it away, Tao Zhi emerged and gently closed the car door.
“Heading back now?” Fu Si Heng asked Tao Zhi naturally, as if he had forgotten the little interlude from moments ago.
“Sure.” Tao Zhi nodded, pretending nothing had happened.
Neither of them mentioned that earlier conversation. Fu Si Heng opened the car door for him, Tao Zhi sat down and buckled his seatbelt. It wasn’t until the car started moving that he realized something was off.
Fu Si Heng had said “back,” but not back to school.
Tao Zhi quickly spoke up to remind him upon realizing this. “I have class early tomorrow morning. I can’t go to your place tonight.”
“Hm? Not going? I thought you’d want to go back and sort out your clothes.” As he spoke, Fu Si Heng glanced at the back seat. “There are so many clothes. Are you planning to leave them until next week to sort?”
Ah.
Right.
He had forgotten about that.
After the reminder, Tao Zhi realized he still had unfinished business. He was just about to say he’d sort them and then head back to school when Fu Si Heng beat him to it.
“Never mind.” Fu Si Heng withdrew his gaze and changed his tune. “I’ll sort them for you. I don’t have anything this afternoon anyway.”
“Then I’ll drop you off at school first.”
“No need, no need!” A responsible and diligent college student wouldn’t push all his own work onto someone else.
Tao Zhi said, “I’ll go back with you. Once they’re sorted, I’ll head to school.”
It probably wouldn’t take much time.
As long as he got back to school by 10 p.m., it would be fine.
“Really?” Fu Si Heng confirmed with Tao Zhi.
“Mm-hmm.” Tao Zhi nodded.
He wouldn’t dump everything on Fu Si Heng to handle.
“Alright.” Fu Si Heng didn’t stand on ceremony with him.
The car happened to pull out of the underground parking lot at that moment, and Fu Si Heng skillfully drove back the way they had come.
Tao Zhi: “…?”
Something felt off.
The conversation had gone so smoothly it was almost unnaturally normal, as if it had been deliberately set up to lure him in.
Tao Zhi realized this a bit late and blanked out again.
–
After pondering alone for a while, Tao Zhi finally concluded that perhaps he was biased against Fu Si Heng.
How could he suspect ill intentions just because the conversation flowed too smoothly?
That wasn’t right.
If Fu Si Heng knew what he was thinking, he’d be hurt.
Tao Zhi mentally spat a few times in his mind to dispel the messy thoughts swirling there.
He felt a twinge of guilt and quickly erased the tiny bit of wariness he had left toward Fu Si Heng—which wasn’t much to begin with.
Of course, Fu Si Heng had no idea what was on his mind.
If he did, he’d only think Tao Zhi was a very kind little baby.
Once they returned to Fu Si Heng’s home, Assistant Ji had already placed everything in Fu Si Heng’s walk-in closet.
Fu Si Heng’s bedroom had a dedicated walk-in closet that was quite spacious. Tao Zhi had been in his bedroom before and was somewhat familiar with the inside.
No… he was only familiar with parts of it.
Every time he entered Fu Si Heng’s room, it was for one reason or another, and he never got to properly explore.
This was the first time today.
Tao Zhi didn’t run into Assistant Ji when he arrived, but the walk-in closet was piled high with stuff, so he must have dropped it off and left.
…That was probably for the best.
Tao Zhi was a little afraid of seeing him now.
Sometimes, hearing him suddenly call out “Madam” would make Tao Zhi cringe so hard his toes curled in his shoes for ages.
There had been a few times when it embarrassed him to the point of scalp tingling, and he couldn’t help but privately ask Assistant Ji about it, inquiring if he could use a different form of address.
Assistant Ji had asked Tao Zhi in all seriousness what he should call him instead.
Tao Zhi said just use his name.
But Assistant Ji felt it was disrespectful to address his boss’s boyfriend by name directly, so the two engaged in a friendly discussion about titles.
Aside from Tao Zhi’s real name, Assistant Ji’s options were Xiao Zhi, Little Tao, Mr. Tao, or Madam—four choices.
