Tao Zhi finished his tutoring session and arrived at Fu Si Heng’s home right at noon twelve-thirty.
He had gotten off at twelve, and the employer’s home was separated from Fu Si Heng’s by just two buildings—a ten-minute walk.
Not long after class ended, he received a video call from his parents and younger sister, so he strolled around the neighborhood for a bit and even showed them the black swans there.
After chatting for a while, Tao Zhi received birthday wishes and red envelopes. Only then did he hang up and quicken his pace to find Fu Si Heng.
The moment he stepped inside, the first thing he saw was a bouquet of red roses.
Tao Zhi stood in the doorway and stared at the roses for several seconds before glancing sideways at Fu Si Heng, who was walking toward him.
“This is—” Tao Zhi started puzzledly.
“Happy birthday.” Fu Si Heng came up to him and planted a kiss on his forehead. “There’s a birthday gift inside. Open it and see.”
In the middle of the roses was a black velvet box. Tao Zhi snapped back to attention, took it at Fu Si Heng’s words, and opened it.
Inside was a necklace.
A platinum chain dangled with what looked like a rabbit’s head pendant, sparkling with the dazzling light of diamonds.
The entire rabbit head was made of diamonds.
Interwoven pale pink and white diamonds, it looked brilliant, exquisite, and beautiful.
Tao Zhi lifted the necklace into his palm, his pupils dilating slightly. “So cute. Are these real diamonds?”
The question came out a bit silly, and Tao Zhi immediately felt embarrassed. “I thought diamonds only came in one color.”
“There are many colors. I’ll take you to see them next time,” Fu Si Heng said. “Do you know what this pattern is?”
“A rabbit head?” Tao Zhi said innocently.
The beautiful pendant suddenly felt a bit gory described that way. Fu Si Heng chuckled, tugged at his cheek, and told him, “It’s called Little White Rabbit Watermilfoil.”
“It’s a type of plant. The pendant is modeled after its flower shape.”
“Oh, I see.” Tao Zhi understood.
Fu Si Heng hummed in acknowledgment, took the necklace from Tao Zhi’s hand, and moved to put it on him.
Tao Zhi’s expression showed some hesitation.
“It’s only once a year, and I don’t get many chances to give you gifts.” Fu Si Heng rubbed his jaw against Tao Zhi’s soft hair strands and looped the cool chain around his neck.
Once it was on, Tao Zhi lowered his eyes to touch the rabbit head.
“It must be really expensive,” he couldn’t help but sigh.
Fu Si Heng ruffled his hair and changed the subject. “Hungry? Let’s eat. No cake at lunch—only tonight.”
Oh.
He got it.
Tao Zhi nodded.
Cakes were always eaten in the evening.
After lunch, Tao Zhi stood in the bathroom and admired the necklace in the mirror for a while longer. When he came out and saw the roses, he ran to the living room cabinet and pulled out several vases.
He liked all of Fu Si Heng’s gifts, whether the necklace or the roses.
So the roses couldn’t just stay in the living room.
He divided the large bouquet into several vases, added some water, and placed one on the balcony, one in the guest room, one in Fu Si Heng’s bedroom, and one in the dining room.
The last one went in the living room. Tao Zhi found a spray bottle, filled it with water, and misted the roses several times. Once the petals were wet, they seemed revitalized, gleaming with even brighter vibrancy.
Fu Si Heng emerged from the study to find Tao Zhi squatting by the coffee table, earnestly arranging the flowers.
Cute.
Fu Si Heng walked over and half-squatted beside him. “Like flowers?”
“I like the ones you gave me,” Tao Zhi said frankly.
He was a little shy saying it, but he didn’t hesitate to share his true feelings with Fu Si Heng.
A shy yet bold and sincere kid.
“And this is my first time receiving flowers.” Tao Zhi’s eyes shone brightly.
Fu Si Heng raised a brow.
First time?
Not really.
As far as Fu Si Heng knew, Fu Zheng had ordered plenty of flowers when he confessed to Tao Zhi.
…
But since Tao Zhi hadn’t accepted them, they didn’t count.
So Tao Zhi was right—his first bouquet was from Fu Si Heng. Pleased with himself, Fu Si Heng leaned down and kissed his forehead. “I’m honored.”
In the afternoon, Fu Si Heng taught Tao Zhi how to swim.
It was no small test for Fu Si Heng.
They had plans to go out that evening, so to conserve Tao Zhi’s energy, Fu Si Heng had intended to keep things proper during the day. But then Tao Zhi came out in his swim trunks…
This time, they were perfectly normal trunks—light blue with a white drawstring tied into a bow… irresistibly cute.
And that exposed expanse of pale pink chest.
The hickeys from last week had mostly faded, but the deeper ones lingered faintly even after five days.
Fu Si Heng felt an itch in his heart. Unable to resist, he nipped at the small chest a few times before starting the lesson.
Tao Zhi: “…”
After swimming until exhausted, they napped for an hour. At six in the evening, they headed out.
The amusement park’s night session started at six-thirty.
They queued up to enter and ran into Wei Yu and Shen Xin Yuan right at the entrance.
Fu Si Heng: “.”
“Xin Yuan-jie? Wei-ge!” Tao Zhi was pleasantly surprised to see them. His eyes lit up as he greeted them warmly. “Long time no see! Didn’t expect to run into you here.”
After the greetings, he felt like something was off, but he couldn’t pinpoint it.
He thought for a moment—
