He had not expected… that because he failed to explain clearly at noon, it had caused such a big conflict between the two.
Now the misunderstanding had blown up.
The neighbor was so enthusiastic; Zhong Nian did not know whether to be grateful or anxious. He gritted his teeth and was about to step forward to explain when he heard Mo Heng suddenly chuckle.
“You sound so righteous. Those who don’t know might think I did something heinous and unforgivable.”
Mo Heng tugged at his tie, his tone casual.
“I don’t care if you have no rules of your own, and I’ve never interfered in what you’ve done before because it has nothing to do with me and doesn’t affect my life. But I didn’t expect that your rules even extend to meddling in how a couple makes love. Isn’t that a bit unreasonable, Pei Yan?”
Hearing the second half, Zhong Nian immediately held his breath, his mind exploding into chaos.
In bed, he had heard plenty of shameful words from Mo Heng’s mouth, sometimes even quite vulgar.
But he had not expected him to be so direct even in front of outsiders… Could he not be a bit more tactful?
Well, now the misunderstanding was cleared, but so was his face.
The person confronting Mo Heng was even more shocked than Zhong Nian; even if his facial features could not be fully seen, one could feel that he had frozen solid.
Mo Heng continued with a smile, his attacks undiminished in force as he mocked, “It feels good eavesdropping on my wife’s moans in the middle of the night, doesn’t it? That’s why you’ve developed some delusions you shouldn’t have.”
Pei Yan: “…”
“I know having such a great wife makes people envious, and our relationship is so sweet it’s enough to make others jealous to death. That’s natural; I can understand.”
Mo Heng brushed off nonexistent dust from his clothes. “But for you to dare provoke and declare war on me directly? That’s really eye-opening.
“Is it because I usually seem good-tempered and cultured, so I look easy to bully? Or has Mr. Pei spent so long in some dark cave that you’ve lost even your sense of shame and self-awareness?”
“…” Pei Yan stood there, shoulders stiff and straight, unmoving like a block of wood, letting Mo Heng’s cold mockery rain down on him.
Mo Heng: “If some mad dog dares to invade my territory, I don’t mind going madder than the mad dog. I absolutely will not allow anyone to destroy the happy marriage between me and my wife.
“Your threats have no effect on me—not before, not now, and not in the future. Every day, I will live happily with my wife, and we will continue to embrace, kiss with deep affection, and make love until we’re satisfied.
“That’s all for now, or else my baby will get anxious waiting. Goodbye.”
With that, Mo Heng even nodded to Pei Yan before turning around. As he went to open the door, he finally noticed his little wife, who had been standing behind him for who knew how long.
His movement with the key paused, and he walked over, grasping Zhong Nian’s slightly cold fingertips. With a soft voice line completely different from moments ago, he asked, “Baby, why are you here?”
His exceptionally gentle and affectionate demeanor made it hard to connect him to the sharp-tongued, aggressively edged image from just before.
Zhong Nian did not dare look at Mo Heng or the “enthusiastic” 1604 neighbor. He wished he could vanish on the spot.
Now, the feelings of shame and embarrassment completely overshadowed his anxiety and fear of being caught not staying home. His mind replayed Mo Heng’s words from earlier over and over.
What the hell was that?
Mo Heng was simply out of his mind to say such things—not just going crazy at home, but biting at others outside too.
His husband’s suspicious nature and possessiveness toward him had exceeded Zhong Nian’s expectations.
“Why isn’t baby speaking?” Mo Heng seemed oblivious to the awkward atmosphere, still gazing at Zhong Nian with eyes full of warmth. He rubbed Zhong Nian’s hand. “Baby, don’t be scared and don’t mind him. Husband will handle everything. Come on, let’s go home.”
Zhong Nian sneaked a glance at the man still standing rigidly behind Mo Heng. “I…”
“We can talk slowly about anything once we’re home.” Mo Heng directly bent down, his two strong palms supporting under Zhong Nian’s thighs, and lifted him up entirely.
“Ah…” The sudden loss of balance startled Zhong Nian, and he reflexively hugged Mo Heng’s neck, tightening his legs around Mo Heng’s waist to keep from falling.
Mo Heng chuckled lowly and pressed his head against his own shoulder before turning toward home.
Clearly, he did not want others to see his wife’s face.
When Zhong Nian came back to his senses and tried to struggle, he heard the elevator ding.
“Don’t mess around; someone else is coming!”
He whispered a reminder in Mo Heng’s ear, not wanting outsiders to see him like this with Mo Heng. As soon as the man in the elevator stepped out leisurely, he immediately sucked in a breath.
The man was still wearing an apron, holding a kraft paper bag in his hand. Upon seeing him, he curved his eyes in a smile and said, “Little Nian, you left in such a hurry earlier, and I accidentally forgot. This is homemade almond candy I made—crispy to suit your taste. Take it and try some.”
The man spoke as if no one else was there and even walked closer to hand over the paper bag.
His every word and action was so natural that Zhong Nian subconsciously reached out to take it. “Thank you.”
After thanking him, he belatedly realized what he had done and quickly turned to check Mo Heng’s expression.
Mo Heng’s face was frosty, a cold aura emanating as he stared at Jiang Jingyun.
