“Differentiating into an Omega would be the real injustice to him.”
The boys’ voices inside the room carried clearly through the door and into He Siheng’s ears.
He Siheng had originally come to find Song Lin, hoping to smooth things over between him and Wang Yizhou and get someone to take Wang Yizhou away. He hadn’t expected to accidentally eavesdrop and catch their conversation.
He couldn’t understand why Tan Jing thought differentiating into an Omega would be unfair to him.
Was he regretting the mistake in his gene test, or feeling guilty for using him?
He Siheng tried to interpret it like a language comprehension question, assuming it was the former, but he always lost the most points in these situations, so he hesitated again.
At the same time, he didn’t want to assume the worst of Tan Jing.
The Tan Jing he knew was a hypocrite with plenty of tricks, who had deceived him many times, but he had also helped him many times, hadn’t he?
People were fickle, people were complex—how was he supposed to truly understand Tan Jing?
He Siheng clenched his fingers.
This wasn’t right. Tan Jing wasn’t a language question, and dating wasn’t like doing reading comprehension. Instead of standing there agonizing alone, he should seize the moment and ask directly.
Good or bad, he had to face it. Might as well get it all out in the open today!
He Siheng gritted his teeth, raised his hand to knock, when a familiar hearty voice suddenly boomed from behind him. “Heng Bro, what are you doing there?”
“…”
Wang Yizhou, why were you everywhere!
He heard footsteps from inside the room. He Siheng instinctively felt guilty for eavesdropping, and his body reacted faster than his brain. He immediately grabbed the approaching Wang Yizhou, covered his mouth, and dragged him away.
Wang Yizhou was utterly bewildered as he was kidnapped. He struggled and mumbled incoherently, “Mmmph mmmph mmmph (kidnapping a good man in broad daylight?!)!”
He Siheng ignored his protests entirely. Before the door to Tan Jing’s room could open, he dragged Wang Yizhou back to his own room with the speed of lightning.
Wang Yizhou’s face and neck turned beet red, on the verge of bidding farewell to the world. Finally released, he gasped for air. “Heng Bro… you… what the hell?”
He Siheng snapped back to reality.
Right, he had been about to knock and go in anyway. Why run?
After a few seconds of silence, He Siheng glared at Wang Yizhou.
Three times—this guy had ruined his plans three times today!
The culprit looked innocent. “Why are you glaring at me?”
He Siheng growled fiercely, “You’d better sleep with your eyes open tonight.”
Wang Yizhou: “?”

Everyone had just finished unpacking when it hit noon. The guesthouse didn’t provide meals, so Homeroom Teacher led the group to a nearby farm restaurant they’d booked in advance for a group barbecue. They divided into barbecue teams and cleanup teams based on cooking skills.
He Siheng and Wang Yizhou both ended up on cleanup.
Tan Jing and Song Lin were on barbecue duty. They stood by the grill, the sizzling charcoal fire in front of them and two chilly gazes boring into their backs.
Song Lin’s mouth twitched. He Siheng staring was one thing, but Wang Yizhou copying him—what was that about?
He glanced at Tan Jing beside him, who was focused on grilling without a care in the world.
As expected of an S-Rank. His back was practically pierced with dagger stares, yet he remained utterly calm.
No sooner had the thought crossed his mind than the guy next to him handed over a freshly grilled skewer.
Tan Jing said, “Take this to He Siheng. And mention it’s from me.”
Song Lin: “…”
This interminably long barbecue left He Siheng utterly irritated.
Once he’d resolved to get answers, he itched to ask right away. But with the group activity outdoors and so many people around, he couldn’t find a moment to pull Tan Jing aside. Messages went unanswered—maybe he’d left his phone in the room.
Finally, Zhou Yu took his phone to snap photos for other classmates and stopped clinging to him. But then Wang Yizhou showed up again, with nowhere to go after falling out with Song Lin.
At last, someone called Song Lin away to help, leaving Tan Jing alone at the grill. Opportunity struck—He Siheng clamped down on Wang Yizhou, who was chattering nonstop. “Stay here and don’t move. I’ll get you more skewers.”
Wang Yizhou looked touched. “Heng Bro…”
He Siheng had no patience for his nonsense. He stood and headed straight for Tan Jing.
He stopped at the grill and cleared his throat. “I’m getting some skewers for Wang Yizhou.”
He spoke loudly enough for others to hear his legitimate excuse.
Even without looking up, Tan Jing could picture his feigned confidence.
He suppressed a smile at the corner of his mouth and played along. “Not ready yet. Gotta wait a bit.”
He Siheng let out an awkwardly acted “oh” and shifted position, standing beside Tan Jing.
Half the day had passed before they finally spoke for the first time. It had been no easy feat.
He Siheng felt inexplicably weary but cut straight to the chase in a low voice. “I heard what you said to Song Lin in the room.”
Tan Jing wasn’t surprised. He just gave a faint “mm.”
He Siheng was the one dissatisfied with the vague response. He turned his head, ready to demand what that meant, but the words died on his tongue when he saw the guy’s pallid face half-shadowed by his cap brim. “Why’s your face so pale? You sick?”
“Just didn’t sleep well last night,” Tan Jing said. He placed the grilled skewers on a plate and handed it over with a smile. “Worried about me? Not mad anymore?”
He Siheng choked, denying it reflexively. “Who said I’m worried? I’m just afraid you’ll catch a cold and spread it to the class.”
He snatched the plate and left without looking back.
What was wrong with this guy? If he wasn’t feeling well, he should’ve stayed home and rested instead of coming to hike.
He Siheng stared glumly at the skewers, pulled out his phone, and searched for a pharmacy on the delivery app.
He tapped in, then faltered.
Tan Jing hadn’t said it was a cold—cold medicine wouldn’t help. What did you take for lack of sleep?
Lack of sleep meant he needed rest!
