Block didn’t have time to chat with him.
Lin Linya and Block had landed on a kitchen building. The resources on the first floor were truly scarce. Block had only picked up a shotgun upon landing. An opponent who landed at the same time had landed directly on their rooftop and flipped in through a second-floor window.
Footsteps sounded from upstairs. Block charged straight up, firing his shotgun and knocking down the second-floor player who hadn’t found a gun yet. After searching around, he only added a First Aid Kit and a few Bandages.
He looked with disdain at an M16 on the ground, as useless as a fire poker, and didn’t pick it up.
When he came back down to the first floor, Lin Linya was still in the corner. He’d even scooted aside slightly so as not to be in the way.
Block, “…”
He said, frustrated by his failure to live up to expectations, “Are you a princess? Needing protection just to play a game?”
He turned his gun, pointing it at the window in front of Lin Linya. “Even if you’re going to hide, pick a better spot. Right here, the window’s right in front of you. Are you afraid people won’t see you here?”
Lin Linya humbly sought advice, “Then where should I go?”
The 14-year-old middle schooler had encountered the biggest challenge of his gaming life. Putting on a stern face, he said, “Follow me.”
Block led Lin Linya to an irregularly-shaped building and found a small compartment for him to hide in. Along the way, he picked up an AKM and tossed it to him. “You stay right here. I’m going out to fight people. Come out after I’ve cleared the area, got it?”
Lin Linya might not have known how to play, but he was very obedient. “Okay, be careful out there.”
Block turned and left. He searched several buildings but wasn’t very satisfied, so he specifically looked for people to fight. He killed anyone he encountered, finishing them off immediately, and quickly became rich.
He would occasionally return to the building where Lin Linya was hiding, dropping off supplies for him—guns, Grenades, First Aid Kits, Ammunition. The tiny compartment was almost overflowing with supplies on the floor.
He came back again, this time with a 6x Scope.
He’d encountered a camper just before; Block’s Level 3 Armor was damaged to near breaking point, and his health bar was only half full. He stuffed all the supplies into Lin Linya’s backpack in one go, then crouched down to calmly heal.
Turning his head, he got angry seeing Lin Linya picking things up so fast. “What are you picking up so quickly for? Is someone fighting you for it?”
Lin Linya’s expression was very innocent. “I’m not picking it up myself, it’s the auto-pickup.”
After Block finished healing, he heard footsteps coming from the ground floor of their building. They were very chaotic, likely more than one person.
If he were alone, he definitely wouldn’t be intimidated and would just rush them. But Lin Linya was here. His expression turned serious. “Don’t move yet. Even crawling makes footsteps. I’ll go down and take them out.”
Lin Linya had been about to shrink further into the corner, but upon hearing this, he immediately stopped daring to move. “Okay.”
The people downstairs suddenly turned on their mics to taunt them. “Little punk, we know you’re up there. We just watched you go in. Surrender right now, and your big bros here won’t finish you off. Otherwise, don’t blame us for not showing mercy.”
There was no way Block could tolerate such provocation. He raged, “You’re asking for it.”
His words hadn’t even faded when the sound of a thrown object landing echoed from the floor outside. Then, the Grenade thrown by the people on the first floor exploded. They were hiding in the compartment, so they weren’t blasted, but Lin Linya still lost health from the shockwave.
Block, “…I am definitely going to kill you guys.”
He turned off the all-channel mic and said to Lin Linya, “I’m going down to fight them. Number One and Little Yang are already moving towards us. If I get knocked, you jump straight down from the second floor and find a windowless spot to hide in first.”
His serious, tragic tone was like a little grown-up, the way one might speak when entrusting an orphan before death.
Lin Linya let out an “Ah,” “Is there anything I can do to help?”
“…” Block instantly became cold and ruthless. “You staying alive is the biggest help you can give us.”
Lin Linya, with his fully kitted gear, who had been clutching his gun, eager to try, immediately deflated. “Okay.”
Block crouched at the top of the second-floor staircase. Without using his scope, he slowly adjusted his position. The patience he displayed surpassed that of his peers, as if he truly were a killer lurking in the shadows.
It would have looked pretty cool if one didn’t listen to his team voice chat.
He muttered quietly to himself, “You turtle grandsons, trying to pretend you’ve left to ambush me? I can already smell your foot odor.”
The two people downstairs, relying on their numerical advantage, rushed the stairs together. Block had pre-cooked a grenade, timing it perfectly. After downing one with the explosion, he pulled out his gun with astonishing speed, aiming for the head and eliminating the one behind.
He opened the all-channel mic to gloat. “Serves you right for bullying a kid. Why are you holding your stomachs and kneeling on the ground? Did you catch a chill?”
Lin Linya listened fearfully to a series of loud, cracking gunshots extremely close to him. Only after they subsided did he dare peek out, just in time to see Block blocking the staircase, preventing the two from crawling down, and even dancing a skirt dance.
Lin Linya, “…”
The two laughed awkwardly. “Little bro, we can talk this out. We’re all on the same side.”
Normally, if someone used the all-channel mic to tell him not to finish them, Block would have thrown out a few taunts. Unfortunately, he was frighteningly calm right now, finishing off the two without even blinking.
After they were killed and turned into crates, they cursed him out loudly, “Damn, you little brat! Can’t take a real fight? Just wait till my teammates come to get you.”
Block didn’t turn back. Inside, he scoffed. You people just don’t get it. He’s a man with a princess to provide for.
He turned around to find Lin Linya craning his neck from the small compartment, looking at him. So he announced proudly, “They can’t beat me at all. Hurry over and loot the crates.”
Lin Linya jogged over to pick things up, praising him as he did so, “I didn’t expect you to be so amazing.”
“It’s alright. They were just too weak.”
These two who attacked the building were really rich; no wonder they were so confident. They just didn’t expect Block to take them both out solo. Lin Linya finished looting.
Block said, “It’s not safe here anymore. I’ve taken out two squads here in Pochinki, and our teammates took out one. There are at least seven or eight people still around here.”
Not hearing any gunshots or footsteps, Lin Linya asked, “Huh? Are they hiding just like me?”
“There are lone wolves, too scared to push hard. They can only play like rats. I’ll go check the outskirts of the urban area to see if the vehicle is still there. If it’s gone, they might have gone towards the bunker.”
The blue zone had started closing in, and they needed a vehicle to move quickly.
Running too far away, Block felt increasingly uneasy. He warned repeatedly, “Don’t wander around. If someone comes, call for me. Fight if you can, run if you can’t. As soon as you fire your gun, you have to change positions.”
Lin Linya agreed immediately.
He found a spot to hide. Just after Block left, he heard footsteps on the first floor. Peeking his head out the window stealthily, he saw a player searching for supplies in the three-story red building next door.
The male player had absolutely no idea someone was in the building next to his, silently watching him from above for a long time.
Lin Linya’s kill count was still zero. Wouldn’t it be too embarrassing if the match ended and he hadn’t killed anyone? Taking advantage of the male player’s distraction, he hurriedly fired off a burst of shots.
The male player was badly startled, performing a messy S-shaped snake-dodge, quickly finding cover to hide behind. Only then did he realize he hadn’t lost a single point of health.
Lin Linya, after emptying a magazine without hitting the man even once, “…”
Panicking, he turned to run.
The moment he flipped out the window, he was met with the black muzzle of the male player’s gun.
The male player was also an old hand streamer from the PUBG section, quite handsome with a nice voice and an interesting style. He had many female fans. Infuriated at the thought of so many people watching him being toyed with like this, he was instantly very angry.
“Finally caught you, trying to shoot me in the back, little rat.”
To his surprise, the voice that came through the mic after the other party activated it was that of a young boy, who retorted with zero confidence, “I didn’t shoot you in the back.”
“I was just saying hello.”
The rage turned to laughter in the male player. “If your aim had been a bit more accurate, I’d be knocked right now. You call this saying hello? Didn’t expect it, not just a little rat, but a little liar too.”
“…”
Lin Linya felt so humiliated he nearly fainted. He simply crouched down against the wall, gave up, and shouted at the top of his lungs, “Fine, I did shoot you in the back! Just kill me already! All my teammates are dead anyway, I don’t want to live anymore!”
His three teammates, who were listening in the team voice channel and had just been forcibly killed off by his proclamation, “…?”
Block was still in the outskirts of the town. He’d run into two rats camping the vehicle and was engaged in a firefight. Hearing this, he roared furiously, “Who said we’re dead?! I’m coming right now to knife this guy.”
The male player, who had originally planned to kill him immediately for revenge, hesitated.
Lin Linya continued pitifully, “Anyway, it’s my first time playing this game, and no one cares if I live or die. Just kill me, put the most pitiful Yaya in the world out of his misery.”
Male player, “…”
He seemed to be getting morally blackmailed. Not sure, he’d observe a little longer.
Reluctantly, he lowered his gun muzzle. “Then call me ‘husband’ and I’ll let you go. Or say a few nice things. Can you sing? Singing works too.”
Lin Linya wasn’t good at much, but this was his specialty. Without a moment’s hesitation, he opened his mouth and said, “Big bro, big bro, spare me. Big bro was so cool just now, suddenly appearing right behind me. You must have some special movement technique.”
“Let me sing you a love song.”
Lin Linya sang a couple lines of “Gravity” in his clear voice.
The male player was sweet-talked dizzy by his barrage of “big bros” and was very satisfied. “Alright, get out of here. Next time I catch you, I won’t let you off.”
Lin Linya stood up and ran.
He didn’t stop until he was several buildings away. Then he turned off the all-channel mic and complained to his teammates, “Who does that? Why act like that? Wanting me to sing, too. So excessive.”
Block had already dealt with the two vehicle thieves and was heading back towards him. Seeing he was safe, he was no longer in a rush. “I’ll go pick up Number One and Little Yang, they’re closer to me. You wait right there for us to come.”
Puffing his cheeks angrily, Lin Linya hugged his gun and shrank into a corner. After a while, he heard footsteps again.
It turned out that the male player from before had looted his way over to this area.
There was an unwanted M4 on the ground floor of Lin Linya’s building. Unaware that the person he had just let go was right upstairs, the male player was crouched, switching guns and attachments, considering whether to equip a 3x Scope for close-quarters or swap to a 6x for single-tapping. Suddenly, a Grenade dropped from the sky, landing precisely right at his feet.
His expression changed, and he quickly flipped out the window.
One minute later, the culprit was cornered against the wall by him.
The male player caught him red-handed right there, expressionless. “Do you have anything else to say? I’ll give you three seconds. Okay, time’s up.”
Lin Linya, “…Wuwu!”
LMAO 🤣
