Chapter 77 Part 1

Scattered rays of light fell into the dance floor, like a flowing galaxy encircling a pair of tall figures.

Gu Lao’s cane tapped lightly against the marble floor, producing a dull echo beneath his feet. He silently watched the two people opposite him, his ears filled with the endless stream of praise from his friends.

President Lin smiled at Gu Lao. “I’ve long heard that you’ve raised Little Fish to be outstanding. Seeing him today, he truly lives up to the rumors.”

Gu Lao’s chin lifted slightly as he slowly smiled toward Zhou Chiyu.

In his eyes, Zhou Chiyu was indeed exceptional.

“That’s the young master of the Zhou Family, right?”

Miss Lin was also very interested in Zhou Chiyu. She thought that these two brothers were both strikingly handsome, just in different styles.

Though she preferred Gu Yuan, becoming friends with Zhou Chiyu would also be something worth celebrating.

“Gu Yuan dances very well.” Miss Lin generously extended an invitation to Gu Lao. “Grandpa Gu, if there’s a chance, I’d like to dance with him once.”

Gu Lao smiled. “It would be Little Yuan’s honor to dance with you.”

The symphony reached its climax, and Gu Yuan’s rhythm grew faster and faster.

Zhou Chiyu worried about not keeping up with Gu Yuan’s steps and quietly called out, “Brother! Slow down a bit!”

Gu Yuan seemed not to hear those words at all. Instead, he softly asked, “Do you like Donald?”

“Hm?” Zhou Chiyu felt the hands on his lower back suddenly tighten, as Gu Yuan drew him into his embrace with an irresistible force.

“Why would I like him?”

Gu Yuan’s rhythm suddenly slowed. His fingertips gently rubbed Zhou Chiyu’s back through the suit fabric, their shoe tips gliding over the floor as their originally sharp dance steps turned ambiguous and languid.

“Then why did you dance with him?”

Gu Yuan’s voice carried a hint of intrigue. “Someone just said that the two of you looked very well-matched.”

Zhou Chiyu’s ear tips slowly turned red as he realized that Gu Yuan was jealous.

“Is that so?” He pursed his lips. “Someone also said that you and Miss Lin are a perfect match. Who knows, maybe you’ll get married in a few years.”

“You’re the one who matches me best.” Gu Yuan leaned down slightly, his nose brushing past Zhou Chiyu’s exquisite bow tie. Zhou Chiyu’s ear tips burned even hotter, and he quickly turned his head away. “Keep your voice down. Don’t let anyone hear.”

“No one will.” Gu Yuan seemed still hung up on that question as he led Zhou Chiyu into a gentle spin. “So why did you dance with Donald?”

Zhou Chiyu gazed at Gu Yuan’s curious expression, his eyes sparkling with amusement. “His father is the chairman of a well-known bio corporation. He wants to form a connection through marriage, I suppose.”

“A marriage alliance?” Gu Yuan used centrifugal force to pull him back into his arms. “Then tell him that you’re already spoken for.”

Zhou Chiyu stumbled forward a step, his warm lips nearly brushing Gu Yuan’s heated earlobe. He quickly pushed against Gu Yuan’s arms to keep some distance.

“You’re so possessive.”

He lifted his bright, shining eyes and arched a brow. “Grandpa wants you to date Miss Lin, too.”

“I’ll make it clear to Grandpa at the right opportunity.”

As the music slowly faded, Gu Yuan and Zhou Chiyu froze in a palm-to-palm pose. Applause erupted continuously throughout the banquet hall.

“Leave it to me.”

Zhou Chiyu looked into Gu Yuan’s deep, serious eyes, and the worries and unease in his heart gradually receded.

“Then can you promise not to hurt Grandpa’s feelings—or mine?”

That was the one thing Zhou Chiyu truly feared.

“Yes. Believe me.”

Unbeknownst to them, Gu Ming and Gu Feng had moved to Gu Lao’s side. They watched the pair’s synchronized figures unfolding in the light and shadows, and Gu Ming chuckled softly. “Little Feng wanted to invite Little Fish to dance earlier, but Little Fish turned him down. It seems Little Fish is still closer to Gu Yuan.”

“Of course.” Gu Lao didn’t spare Gu Ming any face. “Little Fish has been pampered by Little Yuan from childhood to now. What about Little Feng?”

Gu Lao was well aware of the Gu Ming family’s intentions these days. He hadn’t called them out partly because he saw no need and partly because he thought Gu Ming’s words weren’t entirely without merit.

“Little Feng has visited me only a handful of times over the years, let alone meeting Little Fish.” Gu Lao gazed calmly ahead. “I know you’re busy, but are you really that busy?”

Having been rebuffed by Gu Lao, Gu Ming and his son didn’t dare say more. Gu Feng hung his head, timidly explaining, “Grandpa, my studies have been really demanding.”

Gu Lao ignored Gu Feng’s explanation and turned to President Lin. “I’m hosting a dinner at home next weekend. If you have time, feel free to bring Miss Lin.”

After the banquet ended, Donald called out to Zhou Chiyu at the entrance. Donald had no other intentions; he just wanted to add his contact info.

Gu Yuan remained highly vigilant toward Donald. If not for their business partnership, he definitely would have stopped the two from interacting.

At four years old, Zhou Chiyu carried a hundred billion inheritance and was entrusted by his grandfather to his grandfather's sworn friend for care, becoming an orphan. Little Chiyu was an optimist who quickly bonded with the younger generation of the Gu Family and became the Little Overlord of the household. But he feared only one person—Gu Yuan. Gu Yuan was Gu Lao's own grandson who had suffered from a severe illness since childhood, took medication long-term, and relied almost entirely on a wheelchair for mobility. The servants warned him that he could provoke anyone, but he must never provoke Gu Yuan. Gazing at the beautiful and aloof Brother, Little Chiyu held a lollipop in his mouth and refused to believe it. Gu Yuan disliked sunlight, so he pushed the wheelchair to bring Gu Yuan to the courtyard and told Gu Yuan the story of seven princesses and a Little Dwarf. Gu Yuan did not like to eat, so he threatened Gu Yuan and sneaked a kitten into Gu Yuan's bed at night. Gu Yuan did not like to talk, so he secretly signed Gu Yuan up for a fairy tale play, where he himself acted as the Little Prince and made Gu Yuan act as the princess. The other children all warned him to stay away from Gu Yuan, but he refused and stayed by Gu Yuan's side all day, becoming his loyal little follower. At Gu Lao's birthday banquet, he was mocked by other children for having no parents. Before the slow-witted him could react, that child was suddenly knocked over by a basketball, clutching his head and crying. Gu Yuan stood up from the wheelchair, his gaze gloomy, pale lips parting: "Try bullying him again." Later, Zhou Chiyu became Gu Yuan's best Good Friend in the world. The good times did not last. At ten years old, Gu Yuan's condition became critical, and he was sent to the USA for treatment. Zhou Chiyu cried until he became a tearful mess, secretly making wishes every night in Gu Yuan's bed, hoping the other would live to a ripe old age. Eight years passed in a flash. Zhou Chiyu was admitted to Qing University and became the school's acknowledged great beauty with countless pursuers. One day, a friend mentioned that a devastatingly handsome exchange student from the USA had arrived in the Math Department and dragged him to see the Handsome Guy. In the corridor, he was stopped by the Architecture Department's Campus Heartthrob holding a gift, intending to confess. The surrounding classmates hooted and took photos, the atmosphere thick with romance. At that moment, the legendary USA exchange student walked through the crowd with a stern face, publicly took Zhou Chiyu's hand, and glanced at the Campus Heartthrob: "Sorry, he's not interested in you." The people in the corridor were dumbfounded, erupting into gossipy chatter. That evening, the tall and imposing Gu Yuan held Zhou Chiyu's hand, his expression cherishing it immensely: "When did I ever lie? When you were little, you clamored every day to crawl into my bed—have you forgotten?"
