Shen Leyuan’s heart pounded fiercely, nearly sending him into a daze.
I’ve… been to this world before?
As Lin Yuan recounted the past, he didn’t realize he was narrating from his own perspective in that previous life. He revealed details absent from the videos, overwhelmed by a flood of grievances. Choking back sobs, he complained, “Little Deer was naughty.”
“Lin Yao wouldn’t listen either.”
“Huo Tingfeng only knew how to throw himself into mortal peril.”
“I waited for you so long, for so long. I’m so tired, old…”
His voice cut off abruptly. Lin Yuan snapped out of his trance and swallowed the forbidden term of endearment.
Shen Leyuan didn’t catch the significance of that word. He was too busy sifting through the fragments in his mind, recalling his students, the details of that car crash. The more he thought, the worse his headache grew. Clutching his head, he doubled over.
In their face-to-face position, he nearly squeezed his upper body into Lin Yuan’s lap.
Lin Yuan’s hand stiffened in mid-air before slowly descending, gently patting his back. “If you’ve forgotten, don’t force it. Your health comes first. I’ll tell you anything you want to know, okay?”
Shaking in Lin Yuan’s arms, Shen Leyuan couldn’t hold back his frustration. “No way! Your credit score with me is in the negatives!”
Lin Yuan’s patting froze.
His head throbbed like it was about to explode. The delayed memories felt on the verge of erupting, always just one step short of the goal. In a haze, Shen Leyuan slumped forward, his body sinking lower, all his upper-body weight pressing onto Lin Yuan.
He didn’t notice the man’s throat bob, a flash of self-loathing crossing his face.
Damn that previous life.
As his legs regained strength, so did the desire surging back into his body. Lin Yuan hated this loss of control and feared the young man would notice and get angry. He discreetly wedged his other hand between their bodies.
After an unknowable stretch of time, Shen Leyuan wearily gave up tormenting himself. With a slight shift, his cheek brushed the big shot’s tie at chest level.
Only then did he realize how intimate their position was. His body sprang back like a coiled spring, spine ramrod straight—crack!—a sharp snap echoing from the sudden motion.
The big shot was still trapped between his legs, shirtfront damp with sweat, hem soaked through. His hands crossed primly on his lap like a schoolboy’s.
He looked so obedient, like he’d just been picked on.
But who picked on him? It was me picking a fight with myself. Can’t blame him!
Shen Leyuan reviewed their conversation, face hardening as he threatened, “Don’t pull any stupid stunts under the excuse of ‘it’s for my own good,’ or else I’ll… I’ll…”
What can I even do? Beat him up?
Lin Yuan gazed at him quietly, waiting for what came after “or else.”
Shen Leyuan steeled himself, face stern. “I’ll really leave and never come back!”
The words hit harder than he expected. Lin Yuan’s face drained of color instantly, lips paling too. One hand clutched his chest, pain twisting his features.
Shen Leyuan hurriedly stroked his chest. “Just kidding, just kidding. How could I bear not to come back?”
Lin Yuan mumbled a muffled response.
Shen Leyuan exhaled in relief, easing his feet off the wheelchair arms. Casually changing the subject, he said, “You’ve told me everything now, right? Nothing you’re still hiding?”
Lin Yuan fell silent.
Shen Leyuan: ???
He nearly choked. Collapsing in exasperation, he pleaded, “Please, just spill all the important stuff at once. Don’t string me along like a kite!”
Lin Yuan lowered his gaze. “It’s not important. Unrelated to the main issue.”
Shen Leyuan repeated his earlier line, heavily: “Your credit score with me is in the negatives!”
Lin Yuan: “You won’t want to hear it. It’ll make things awkward. Make you want to keep your distance.”
What could be more awkward than you spying on me all this time?
Shen Leyuan huffed grandly. “Go ahead and say it. I won’t distance myself from the current you because of your past life.”
He had no memories of that previous life anyway. He wouldn’t project them onto the man now.
Lin Yuan finally raised his eyes, staring intently as if gauging the truth of his words. After a long pause and Shen Leyuan’s urging, he spoke slowly.
“Wifey.” He called out.
Shen Leyuan: ……???
Shen Leyuan: !!!
Lin Yuan met his gaze, calmly explaining, “That’s what I called you in the previous life.”
Shen Leyuan’s mouth opened, closed, opened again, closed.
Lin Yuan offered more details. “We had an arranged marriage that turned into true love through free courtship. There was a wedding, rings, nightlife, and a honeymoon trip.”
Shen Leyuan asked stiffly, “You remember?”
Lin Yuan shook his head.
Before Shen Leyuan could relax, the big shot continued in a flat tone, “The previous life left videos. They meticulously record your favorite foods, clothes, hobbies, and…”
Lin Yuan’s brow furrowed slightly, the last two words barely audible.
“…positions.”
Shen Leyuan: !!!
He squeezed through gritted teeth, “He spilled everything?”
Lin Yuan analyzed his past self’s intentions. “He hoped I’d rekindle our bond with you. Ideally, usurp the position and take over myself. You wouldn’t notice the switch beneath the skin.”
A subtle resentment laced those final words, making Shen Leyuan feel a twinge of guilt.
Embarrassment made him busy. He deftly reached forward to smooth the wrinkles his weight had pressed into the big shot’s suit, from top to bottom. When he went to loosen the tie for a redo, he snapped back to reality and froze.
The big shot had tilted his head back slightly, exposing his vulnerable throat, waiting.
Shen Leyuan pretended he was still distracted, swiftly tying a perfect knot and settling it neatly on Lin Yuan’s chest.
Lin Yuan touched the tie, his heart trembling.
Shen Leyuan stood, moving the chair aside. “I’ll head back to the hospital later. Where are you off to?”
Lin Yuan sidestepped. “You said you wouldn’t distance yourself because of the past life.”
Shen Leyuan: “I didn’t—”
Lin Yuan: “You’re chasing me away.”
Shen Leyuan scrubbed his face. Fine, fine. I am chasing the big shot off.
Fortunately, Lin Yuan dropped the “wifey” bit and proactively shifted to talking about Little Deer, describing his state back then.
Little Deer in the previous life had been far worse off than now. He didn’t know how to act cute back then.
He’d been imprisoned by Lin Yuan, a pure prisoner.
The boy harbored innate malice, effortlessly dominating others’ desires. Ordinary isolation trapped only his body, not his powers. Unable to escape himself, he’d incite the guards to pair off and perform live porn for him, feeding on the lust to survive.
If Lin Yuan was present, the boy focused on him, trying to drag him under—but never succeeding.
As the big shot spoke, Shen Leyuan’s gaze drifted to his lap. That hand pressing there seemed off, like it was hiding something.
No way, right?
The big shot had never gotten hard for Little Deer in this life, not even when he couldn’t help staring. Why would recounting past events excite him?
Yet Lin Yuan’s breathing grew heavy under his stare—unrelated to the past life. Just because he was looking.
He skipped some parts, deliberately bringing up someone he didn’t want to. “One time later, the dogs from the Kennel all broke loose. The villa was chaos. A Tibetan Mastiff slipped into Little Deer’s enclosure…”
Shen Leyuan’s attention snapped away. Anxiously, he asked, “Did they…?”
“No,” Lin Yuan said. “You’d just been hired as a bodyguard. You controlled the Tibetan Mastiff in time, so I promoted you to my side.”
Shen Leyuan thought: Good thing not. Otherwise—
Otherwise what?
He belatedly recognized his possessiveness, lips pressing thin. Forcing himself back to business, he asked, “And then?”
“Then we tested each other for a while. One day, we laid our cards on the table and talked openly. We argued some—you thought Little Deer needed guidance, and I ultimately gave you the chance to experiment.”
He omitted Lin Yao’s antics in between, the Tibetan Mastiff’s obsessions—who it first wanted to bite, then lick—and their illicit affairs as dog and man.
Lin Yuan only spoke of Little Deer. “The bodyguards guarded the perimeter. Only you got close. He often seduced you, trying to feed on lust from you, but you were barely affected.”
“You fed him emotions instead. Told him it was called ‘liking.'”
Shen Leyuan stared blankly, puzzled. “I… liked him?”
If Little Deer in the past life was truly as malicious as Lin Yuan described, how could he?
“Mm,” Lin Yuan said. “Leveraging your role as his ‘little dad,’ you’d dissuade anyone eyeing Little Deer by preaching education. Tell them what degree to earn for a chance to see him. By the time they’d buried themselves in studies for years, the influence had faded.”
Shen Leyuan fell silent, then murmured dazedly, “I was such a sleazy operator.”
Lin Yuan frowned. “You weren’t sleazy.”
Lin Yuan: “You were pure, upright, very…”
Shen Leyuan clapped a hand over his mouth, flushing crimson. “Enough, I get it. Stop.”
Excitement bubbled up. “Can we use that method now?”
“Not certain,” Lin Yuan said. “Back then, Little Deer’s main influence was desire. Now it’s emotions. My suggestion: lock him up completely, somewhere utterly remote.”
Shen Leyuan blurted, “Remote places have beasts.”
Lin Yuan stared at him.
He stared back.
After a beat, they both looked away, pretending ignorance of the implication.
They chatted a bit more before Shen Leyuan ended the topic.
Talk was cheap now. He needed to go full-time, meet Little Deer face-to-face, and decide the next steps.
He stood to push the big shot’s wheelchair. “Want me to walk you out?”
The big shot refused.
Shen Leyuan respected his choice. Puzzled but obedient, he turned to leave, thinking maybe the big shot wanted to cry alone?
With their relationship, it wasn’t convenient to comfort him.
Better keep distance…
But the big shot clearly didn’t want distance. Tricky.
At the door, he suddenly remembered the original topic—whether certain info should be reported. Twisting back, he said, “Right…”
His voice halted.
Someone was shrugging off his jacket. The spot no longer covered by hands was a massive bulge.
Avoiding Shen Leyuan’s eyes, Lin Yuan’s fingers trembled as he draped the jacket over his lap. Calmly, he explained, “I used meds to suppress desire before. After stopping, it’s a bit sensitive.”
Shen Leyuan dazed: “Ah? Oh…”
He vaguely recalled when the covering started, subconsciously calculating the timeline. He hissed softly. He’s been holding back so long. Doesn’t it hurt?
Lin Yuan’s voice stayed even, offering a strange promise. “I’ll keep using the meds. Strive not to offend you.”
Shen Leyuan: ???
He thought in horror: Big shot, your little brother’s had it rough these years!
