Xiao Kun said, “Grab the dragon horn and infuse your Spiritual Power into its body. Gather it toward the shoulders and back to lift it into flight. Channel Magical Power forward to dive; left and right spins work the same way.”
“Ah.” Xiang Xian understood. Xiao Jin was essentially a Magic Treasure rather than a spirit beast, so this was clearly the method for controlling a Magic Treasure—infusing Spiritual Power to activate its effects, just like the Demon-Suppressing Banner or Red Blood Gold Rings.
Xiang Xian tried infusing Spiritual Power throughout the Golden Dragon’s body. There was no reaction at first, and everyone watched him.
After a while, the Golden Dragon suddenly bounced in place, bent like a bow, then instantly straightened out, performing an in-place extension and contraction.
Everyone: “!!!”
“How did you do that?” Xiao Kun was utterly shocked. He had controlled the Golden Dragon for over ten years and had never seen it make such a bizarre movement.
“I…” Xiang Xian said, “I didn’t control the force properly. I did a dive and a lift at the same time.”
Chaosheng immediately burst into laughter, doubling over and looking for something to steady himself. But Xiao Kun said, “Be careful not to fall!”
Xiang Xian quickly grasped the principle. Just to tease Xiao Kun into a smile, he maneuvered the Golden Dragon into the air, performing several sideways rolls that whipped up howling gales.
Only then did Xiao Kun realize Xiang Xian was playing a prank on him again, leaving him torn between laughter and tears.
There was no Magic Treasure in the world that could stump Xiang Xian, after all—his primary cultivation was in the ways of form and substance. As Xiang Xian controlled the Golden Dragon through various high-difficulty maneuvers, rolling in the air, he said, “Now you’re Master’s dragon! How’s Master’s technique?”
“Come down!” Xiao Kun said. “What nonsense are you saying!”
Xiao Kun’s mood was quite complicated. The Dragon Soaring Jade had actually accepted Xiang Xian just like that? Xiang Xian landed slowly, and Chaosheng hurriedly said, “Can I give it a try?”
Xiao Kun nodded, so Xiang Xian handed the Dragon Soaring Jade to Chaosheng. Chaosheng tried activating it a few times, but the Dragon Jade Pendant showed no response.
Chaosheng: “??”
“No good,” Wu Yingzong said. “Give it back to Lord Xiao.”
Chaosheng: “Why won’t it listen to me?”
Both Xiang Xian and Xiao Kun were a bit puzzled. Xiao Kun said, “Old Wu, you try?”
Wu Yingzong waved it off, but Xiang Xian gestured that it was fine, so Wu Yingzong took it. Mimicking Xiang Xian’s gestures—he had learned quite a few techniques for activating Magic Treasures—still, there was no response from the Golden Dragon.
Next, with Xiao Kun’s permission, everyone else tried once, and none could control the Golden Dragon. During this, everyone’s expressions were a bit odd—curious and eager to try, yet worried about summoning it and not being able to put it away, all while glancing at Xiang Xian and Xiao Kun.
“Only Master can do it!” Hulü Guang breathed a sigh of relief and asked, “Why?”
“Ah! Right!” Chaosheng was also baffled and said, “Has it recognized its master? Big Brother, are you its master too?”
“I don’t know,” Xiang Xian replied.
“Maybe because it has your blood on it too,” A Huang said, flapping his wings. “You held it for Xiao Kun for a while, and in the Abyss Divine Palace, your lives got intertwined. It sees you as Xiao Kun too.”
Xiang Xian understood and nodded. “That’s possible.”
“I’m rested now,” Xiao Kun said. Discovering that only Xiang Xian could summon the Golden Dragon made him feel a bit more at ease. The Dragon Soaring Jade’s recognition of a master had made their bond even closer. “We can depart, but we won’t make it to Yuezhou today.”
“I’ll do it.” But Xiang Xian didn’t return the Dragon Jade Pendant to him. He simply summoned the Golden Dragon and said, “Stand behind me. Take over if anything happens.”
And so Xiang Xian took control of the Golden Dragon and lifted into the air, with everyone shouting at once. Hulü Guang yelled, “Master! I’m going to be thrown off!”
Baoyin panicked, “Don’t roll in the air!”
“I… I’ll try!” Xiang Xian found that carrying so many people was indeed taxing. His Magical Power began depleting rapidly—he finally understood why Xiao Kun often had no chance to speak while controlling the dragon.
“Breathe evenly. The key is ‘balanced stability.’ Don’t let your Spiritual Power fluctuate wildly. Also, don’t move around,” Xiao Kun’s voice was relaxed. He wrapped his arms around Xiang Xian from behind, the two slightly hunched and pressed close together, Xiao Kun’s breath warm against Xiang Xian’s ear.
Xiang Xian steadied his Magical Power as best he could, making the Golden Dragon’s flight smoother. Though not quite as good as Xiao Kun’s, it solved the biggest issue of Spiritual Power dissipation, and they headed south again with their companions.
Controlling the dragon was truly exhausting. Xiang Xian flew in fits and starts, and by nightfall, they had to stay temporarily at a relay station outside Suizhou City. Xiang Xian was so tired he only wanted to sleep, while Xiao Kun’s energy had mostly recovered.
“Let’s go! Time for drinks!” Baoyin said.
“Spare me!” Xiang Xian didn’t even want to eat. He lay on the floor in front of the table.
“No villages before or after,” Xiao Kun said. “What drinks? Everyone, get to bed early. We have to travel tomorrow!”
