“I’ve forgotten it all,” Chaosheng said. “How could I remember things from when I was six?”
Yuzhou thought, This is bad, and didn’t dare say more. After all, he didn’t know what consequences would arise if the master of the White Jade Palace developed a mortal heart and went to the human world.
“It’s decided,” Chaosheng said. “Lord Jumang’s leaves are corroded by demonic qi—we have to do something about it, right? And I want to help that brother! Otherwise, what will he do next? Getting bullied everywhere—that’s too pitiful!”
“You’re serious?” Pi Changge asked, mouth agape, unable to eat his pancake.
Chaosheng rose from the throne and strode through the long corridor. Yuzhou and Pi Changge chased after him. They saw Chaosheng approach the giant tree, place his hand on it, and whisper a few words.
The leaves rustled without wind, “shua-la-la,” nonstop. Chaosheng laughed and looked up at the canopy.
“See? Lord Jumang agreed,” Chaosheng said. “Chang Ge, you and me together.”
“I’m almost dead,” Pi Changge said. “If I leave the White Jade Palace, I won’t last a few days. Staying by Lord Jumang’s side is what keeps me alive. You don’t want me dropping dead mid-journey while we tour the red dust, do you?”
“Alright,” Chaosheng said. “Then you have to stay alive. I promise you, I’ll definitely come back. I won’t be like them.”
Pi Changge stepped forward, hugged Chaosheng, and lifted him entirely into his arms, holding him close.
Yuzhou stared in astonishment, never expecting that this visit would cause the Master of White Jade Palace to run off too.
“Wait, Chaosheng,” Yuzhou said. “Where exactly do you plan to go?”
“Chengdu?” Chaosheng said. “I haven’t really decided.”
“Do you even know where Chengdu is?” Yuzhou said. “Do you know how many coppers make a tael of silver? Shenzhou is vast. You can’t fly. Do you know where to buy a horse? Do you know how to ask for a room at an inn? Do you know how to greet people? Do you know that the better-looking the man, the stranger he… Why does it feel like I’ve said this somewhere before?”
“Hey! Enough!” Chaosheng said. “Stop nagging. You’re really getting old. Move to Kunlun and live here. If you go back to Yaojin Palace, in a few years you won’t be able to walk.”
“Or maybe you should just forget it?” Yuzhou said earnestly.
Chaosheng said, “Xiao Kun probably hasn’t gone far yet. We’ll find him later. I’ll stay by his side, and if anything goes wrong, he can send me back anytime. Is that okay?”
“I’m sorry, Big Brother,” Yuzhou said as he placed one hand on Pi Changge’s shoulder and the other on his forehead.
Pi Changge sighed and said, “What must come will come. Chaosheng, I’ll pack some things for your journey.”
“But inside Kunlun Mountain,” Yuzhou said, “it’s a place of immortality and no aging, an undying land. Chaosheng will return eventually, so don’t be too sad, Big Brother.”
“Enough!” Pi Changge said gloomily.
Xiao Kun rode the Golden Dragon out of Kunlun Mountain and headed south alongside the high-altitude clouds. The glow of the Dragon Soaring Jade weakened, meaning he could no longer sustain prolonged flight—after all, he hadn’t truly rested for days on end.
He needed to find a place to land before nightfall, seek lodging, return to areas with people, and then switch to riding a horse toward Chuan-Shu.
As he flew at high speed, a golden light appeared in the distance, accompanied by a loud shout:
“Xiao Kun—!”
Xiao Kun turned abruptly and froze.
A massive, gleaming golden auspicious beast—a Pixiu—rode the clouds toward him, followed by the Azure Dragon Yuzhou riding the mists.
Riding atop the Pixiu was none other than the Master of the Kunlun White Jade Palace, Li Chaosheng.
Xiao Kun quickly pressed down the Golden Dragon’s head, not daring to fly level with it. He saluted toward the elevated Pixiu, assuming there were instructions, and said, “Yes, what orders does Your Highness have?”
The Pixiu slowly descended in height, and Chaosheng jumped down from its back.
“I’ve decided to wander the mortal world,” Chaosheng said, “and help you out along the way. With me here, no one will dare bully you again.”
Xiao Kun was shocked. After just one meeting, he was willing to help to this extent?
“Take good care of Chaosheng.” The Pixiu opened its mouth, its voice booming. “My lifespan is nearly exhausted. I cannot leave the White Jade Palace lightly.”
The Azure Dragon hovering in midair said, “Chaosheng, while you’re away from Kunlun Mountain these days, I’ll stay in the palace. Remember to wash your hands before eating. Add clothes when it gets cold. The mortal world has spring, summer, autumn, and winter—nothing like Kunlun Mountain…”
“Got it. You two keep each other company. Wait for me to come back!” Chaosheng waved to them, then boldly wrapped his arms around Xiao Kun’s waist and said, “Let’s go! To Chengdu now?”
Xiao Kun: “………………”
“Departure!” Chaosheng thought, carried by this beautiful man as he set off to experience the red dust of the mortal world—he was exceedingly excited!
Xiao Kun asked, “Why the sudden whim, Your Highness, to come to the mortal world?”
Chaosheng, full of curiosity with laughter brimming in his eyes, gazed at the vast mortal lands revealed as the layers of clouds parted, and replied:
“Because I’ve developed a mortal heart!”
