Chapter 41: He is the Person Who Treats Me Best Part 1

Lin Chuyun had never been this frightened in his entire life.

He sat rigidly perched on a stone. The cat ears on top of his head had practically vanished from sheer terror. His cat tail was wrapped tightly around his body, and his fur was slightly puffed up, standing on end.

Around him… no, to be more precise, towering over him, was a circle of Fierce Beasts.

Just as he started preparing his own epitaph in his mind, the nearest Giant Python suddenly spoke. “Little Red, is this the little Cat Demon you mentioned?”

Feng Wu instantly exploded. “Don’t call me that name! This King is called Feng Wu!”

“Alright, alright, I got it,” the Giant Python replied dismissively, leaning in closer. Its forked tongue flicked out slightly, practically swiping right in front of the little black cat’s eyes. “Is this really the little Cat Demon you talked about?”

Feng Wu had previously gone out for a spin and came back saying he’d met a particularly clever little Cat Demon.

Feng Wu pursed his beak. He knew Gu Jingshan had warned him he couldn’t reveal Lin Chuyun’s identity to anyone, so he could only answer with clear displeasure, “Yes, this is the one.”

The Giant Python’s serpentine pupils studied the little black cat, and its voice carried a hint of doubt. “Is it really a Cat Demon… it feels a bit…”

“Ah, Old Crawler, you talk too much.” A pair of giant hands pushed the python aside immediately. The little black cat’s view was replaced by a Giant Ape.

The Giant Ape bent down, leaning in close to the small creature. Its beast pupils scanned the little black cat, its tone tinged with utter contempt. “Why is it so small?”

But no sooner had the Giant Ape steadied itself than it was shoved aside by another Demon Beast, this one with giant ram horns atop its head. Watching the atmosphere between the giant beasts grow increasingly tense, the little black cat silently backed up two steps… and bumped right into something.

Lin Chuyun turned his head back bit by bit, millimeter by millimeter.

First, he saw a pair of razor-sharp, hooked talons gripping the stone tightly, so powerfully they had already carved several Rifts into the rock. Moving upward was a wide expanse of brown bird feathers, then a cruel, hooked beak, and finally a pair of savage, piercing eagle eyes staring right down at him.

What he’d bumped into was the Eagle Demon’s bird claw.

The little black cat carefully crept two steps forward again, terrified of provoking this beast.

Just then, a beautiful, Colorful Butterfly fluttered down and landed at the edge of the stone. Its wings shimmered faintly, scattering motes of rainbow light. “Little one, hello there! You can call me Sister Colorful Butterfly.”

“Already part of the grandmother generation, yet still calling yourself ‘Sister’…” the Giant Ape grumbled in a low mutter.

The butterfly’s wing-fluttering paused for a single second before resuming its rhythm. The Colorful Butterfly flew up and landed on the Giant Ape’s head. Streams of multi-colored light cascaded down from its body. Within moments, the Giant Ape’s body was covered in blotches of red and purple.

“What are you doing?!” the Giant Ape roared, its massive hand swiping furiously at the top of its head. Unfortunately for it, the butterfly’s reaction speed was incredibly fast; with a slight shimmer, it dodged the attack completely.

“All of you, shut up!” Feng Wu’s head was throbbing. He yelled out an enraged command.

The surrounding Demon Beasts finally quieted down. However, when they thought Feng Wu wasn’t paying attention, they were still sneaking glances at the little black cat. After all, they were all beasts who’d cultivated for thousands of years, and it had been a long, long time since any of them had seen a Little Demon Beast this tiny.

“This is a little Cat Demon belonging to someone else. It’s just staying temporarily at Spirit Beast Peak for three days,” Feng Wu said impatiently. “Alright, now all of you, scram.”

“Someone else’s? Whose?” the Giant Python asked.

“Why only stay three days? Can’t he stay for a few more?” the Colorful Butterfly protested.

“What’s the little Cat Demon’s name?” the Giant Ape asked curiously.

Feng Wu only answered that last question. “His name is… Little Black.”

The little black cat at the side tried to refute this, but was instantly silenced by a single, sharp look from Feng Wu. He could only aggrievedly flick his tail. Unfortunately, the tail accidently brushed against the eagle talons behind him, causing him to tuck it right back in with a cowed, scared movement.

After a great effort in chasing away the crowd of gawking beasts, Feng Wu looked at the little black cat beside him and felt he had likely brought back a major headache.

“I’m warning you: no causing trouble, no running around wildly, and your name right now is Little Black. Do you hear me?” Feng Wu told Lin Chuyun in a tone that left no room for argument.

Lin Chuyun didn’t particularly care. He wasn’t the type who liked to run around wildly anyway. He nodded obediently upon hearing this.

Seeing him so well-behaved, Feng Wu’s expression finally softened slightly. He brought Lin Chuyun back to the cave he usually used for cultivation—which was really just his den for sleeping—and told Lin Chuyun to stay put inside obediently before leaving.

Lin Chuyun poked his head toward the deeper interior of the cave and discovered it extended a very long way inside. He didn’t venture further in, though. Instead, he found a spot near the entrance, settled down quietly, and began cultivating inside the cave, following the method Feng Wu had taught him.

Perhaps it was because the Demon Qi on Spirit Beast Peak was more abundant, or perhaps the cultivation method was correct, but Lin Chuyun could feel the Demon Core inside him forming at a rapid speed. He estimated that in another month or two, he would be able to form his Core Formation.

When evening came, Feng Wu returned from parts unknown. Seeing that Lin Chuyun was still in the cave, his tone actually improved quite a bit. He reached out and handed two Spirit Fruits to Lin Chuyun.

“Eat up quickly. After you eat, it’s time to sleep.”

Lin Chuyun wasn’t really hungry, but having Spirit Fruits to eat was still immensely satisfying.

Feng Wu sat leaning against the wall to the side, watching the little black cat eat with obvious delight. His expression carried a hint of confusion.

The Spirit Fruits were actually given to him by Feng Xixing. The fact that Lin Chuyun was afraid of the dark was also something Feng Xixing had reminded him about. Do human disciples really take such good care of their masters? He had never looked after Little Demon Beasts with this level of attentiveness.

Puzzled by these human ways, Feng Wu changed back into the little red bird, found a random spot in the den, and immediately went to sleep. Lin Chuyun, on the other hand, after finishing the Spirit Fruit, wiped his face with a bit of unfamiliar awkwardness, then lay to the side, sleepless.

He wondered… how his little disciple’s Spirit Sword was coming along.

The next morning, Lin Chuyun was once again the only one in the cave. He didn’t really mind; he simply planned to continue cultivating. Just then, he heard voices coming from outside.

“Are you sure it’s in here?”

“Of course! That kid Little Red usually just sleeps in whatever random spot he finds. He specifically came back to his cave to sleep last night, it’s gotta be because the Little Demon Beast is staying here.”

Lin Chuyun carefully edged back into the shadows. Taking advantage of the ones outside not paying close attention, he quickly poked his head out for a peek and discovered two Demon Beasts he hadn’t seen before.

Though the beasts here all seemed quite friendly to him, Lin Chuyun didn’t dare be careless. If one of them actually decided to make a move against him, a kitten with almost no attack power like himself wouldn’t even be enough for a single gulp.

Before the two beasts could walk further into the cave, Lin Chuyun darted deeper into the darkness of the cavern. His little toe beans padded across the ground without making a single sound. By the time those two Demon Beasts entered, all they saw was an empty den.

Lin Chuyun carefully made his way deeper and deeper into the cave. He was lucky he was currently a cat; even in such pitch darkness, he could see everything clearly. The sounds of the two Demon Beasts behind him gradually faded into the distance. Lin Chuyun hesitated and stopped, wondering if it was safe to go back now.

Just then, he heard a very soft call from not too far ahead.

The sound was deeply familiar, but he couldn’t for the life of him remember when he’d heard it before. Lin Chuyun paced in place, hesitant, for a moment. Finally, he followed the direction of the sound and continued deeper inside.

After about another quarter hour of travel, the cave ahead suddenly opened up into a vast, wide space.

It was as though he’d entered an enormous underground Stone Cave. The tunnel Lin Chuyun had emerged from was merely one of countless entrances dotting the cavern. The entire cave was so unimaginably huge that Lin Chuyun couldn’t even see the far wall, couldn’t judge just how vast it really was.

But what truly made Lin Chuyun freeze in shock was the beast sprawled upon the Stone Platform in the center of the cavern.

It was a White Fox.

The White Fox’s body wasn’t as enormous as the other beasts, only around three meters long. It was pure snow-white from head to tail, without a single trace of any other color. Behind it, five long, magnificent tails spread out across the stone floor.

So… so beautiful.

Lin Chuyun was utterly stunned. This was the first time he had ever seen such a beautiful Demon Beast.

The little black cat took a dumbstruck step forward, but completely forgot there was still a step where he’d emerged from. The misstep was immediate; his paw met empty air, and he went smack—face-planting onto the ground.

The White Fox’s ears swiveled slightly, as if it had been roused by the noise. Its closed eyes slowly opened.

Rebellious Disciple, Don’t Pluck Master’s Fur! [Transmigration]

Upon transmigrating, Lin Chuyun found himself in the body of a cannon fodder immortal lord in a cultivation novel.

To curry favor with the universally-adored protagonist (shou), the original host had drugged his own disciple, Feng Xixing, causing him to fall into the devil path. Ten years later, Feng Xixing became the Devil Lord and threw the original host into the Nether Ghost Flame, burning him alive for a full two hundred years.

Lin Chuyun thought: If you don't court death, you won't die.

And then Lin Chuyun—
Transmigrated right into the middle of the original host's death-seeking scene.

Staring at the spiked spirit tea in Feng Xixing's hand, and thinking of those two hundred years of burning, Lin Chuyun's brain went hot. He snatched the spirit tea away in one swift motion—and downed it in one gulp.

Feng Xixing: "..."

They stared at each other for three seconds. Then, right in front of Feng Xixing, Lin Chuyun transformed into a little black fluff-ball.

Lin Chuyun: "..."
Wait, can he apply for a redo?!

***

The disciples of Star Point Sect discovered that Immortal Lord Lin, who had always been deeply and unconditionally devoted to Junior Brother Bai, seemed to have shifted his affections recently.

Not only did he give all the spirit stones, spirit herbs, spirit tools, and cultivation techniques originally meant for Junior Brother Bai to Senior Brother Feng instead, but he also clung to Senior Brother Feng every single day, even sleeping in the same bed.

Watching Feng Xixing's face grow healthier day by day, the disciples couldn't help but sigh with emotion: Love truly is nourishing.

However, in reality...
Ever since Lin Chuyun turned into a cat, he felt incredibly hungry every single day and could only constantly devour spiritual energy.

Spirit stones—devoured.
Spirit herbs—devoured.
Spirit tools—de... devoured!
Cultivation techniques—de... oh wait, he couldn't eat those.

Lin the Little Black Cat Chuyun thought about it, trotted over to Feng Xixing with the technique in his mouth, and tossed it into Feng Xixing's arms.
Since he couldn't eat it, he might as well give it to his own unfortunate disciple.

***

Feng Xixing was reborn, waking up back at the exact moment in his past life when he was forced to flee the sect.

After his rebirth, Feng Xixing had lost interest in everything. However, his previous life's betrayal still had to be avenged.
This time, he would quietly and cleanly dispose of Lin Chuyun, leaving absolutely no trace of...
Absolutely no trace of...

Lin Chuyun [struggling desperately]: "Meow meow meow meow meow!" Rebellious disciple, unhand your master immediately!

Feng Xixing nodded with a beaming smile, then lowered his head and buried his face in the kitten's soft, fluffy fur.
He huffed the cat to his heart's content.
Mhm, rebirth is indeed wonderful.
