Chapter 4: This Kitty’s So Majestic Part 2

Li You graciously went up and rubbed her one free hand, meowing twice.

The late-night explosion was just a minor interlude. Everyone seemed to know what it was about and wasn’t overly surprised. Soon, the noisy voices outside quieted, and the cats calmed down too. Everyone returned to their beds, but Li You couldn’t sleep.

He was certain that noise was related to the pollutants—maybe the Imperial Military cleaning them up.

Otherwise, how to explain the villagers’ lack of surprise?

So, his brother might be there too.

He couldn’t sleep, absolutely couldn’t. Li You was wide awake.

Not sleepy at all—his brain was hyperactive. In the end, he boldly made a decision.

He was going out.

The kitten stealthily slipped out of the cat bed, looked left and right, and surveyed the surroundings.

The windows were sealed with fine mesh, and the door was closed.

“…”

Great, he couldn’t get out. Li You turned back and burrowed into the bed.

He really wanted to check the situation outside, but he couldn’t get out. No choice—he’d have to stay put. Opening that door would be too easy for him, but he couldn’t close it afterward, which might let the other cats escape too. That would be dangerous.

He could wander and survive in the wild, but the other kitties couldn’t go through that.

Li You curled into a ball, lying on his own tail, and continued staring out the window with wide eyes.

Suddenly, a human head appeared outside the window.

“………………”

The shock of this scene. Li You could compare it to the terror when he’d once learned his brother was a monster—hell, this was even scarier!!

That head was pitch-black and slowly moved outside the window. The next moment, it pressed against the glass, a pair of eyes gleaming dimly staring straight inside.

Sa-save…

Li You feared nothing in heaven or earth except ghosts. He shrank back into the bed, nervously peeking at the window but too scared to keep looking.

About ten minutes later, a light flashed outside. The shadow dodged, the beam only catching black hair.

“What are you doing? Why aren’t you home so late?”

“Ah… sorry, I couldn’t sleep and came out for some air.”

The voices outside faded, and Li You only caught the first two sentences clearly.

Probably a night patrol’s light.

So… that guy outside the window earlier wasn’t a monster or mutant species—he was human?

Li You breathed a sigh of relief, his anxious heart settling a lot. Gradually, sleepiness came. In his drowsy haze, he realized another issue.

Why had that guy stood peeking at Little Wan Sis’s shop window for so long while out for a stroll?

So weird…

Puzzled, Li You fell into deep sleep. Not long after he started snoring, the black head reappeared outside the window. A pair of wide-open eyes stared fixedly into the room, using the faint starlight to gaze intently at the Ragdoll in the cat bed.

The next morning, the sun shone brightly. Li You slept until he woke naturally.

A house cat woke to food. He ate his fill, politely nuzzled Little Wan Sis in thanks as usual, then began his daily claw-sharpening ritual.

Every kitten here had its own scratching board, and Li You got one too. He stood on the scratching board, crouching his fluffy body, and diligently sharpened his claws. Getting into it, with the scritch-scritch-scritch sounds, he let out purring mews from his throat.

Before long, Little Wan Sis came in with a leash and a kitten sunhat. She looked around and spotted the Ragdoll industriously scratching away among the room full of cats. She went over, squatted, and watched the little cat work with a grin.

“…”

Li You felt a bit embarrassed being watched. He looked up at Little Wan Sis. “Mew.”

“Has the kitty master finished work?” Little Wan Sis picked up the item in her hand and shook it gently. “Come walk with Little Wan Sis. We’ll go to the pet hospital. There are good big brothers there and delicious cat strips.”

Li You leaped down from the cat scratching board and came before her.

Little Wan Sis lifted the chest harness and dangled it in front of the kitten. Li You obliged by raising his front paws toward it.

“Aiyo, what a smart kitty!” Little Wan Sis marveled at the Ragdoll’s high intelligence. She deftly fitted the chest harness on him, then put the yellow sun hat on him, arranging his two cat ears through the holes in the hat. Only then did she stand up and tug on the leash. “Alright, let’s head out.”

Li You didn’t walk fast. He swayed lazily. He walked ahead, leading Little Wan Sis through the town streets as if patrolling his territory.

Little Wan Sis wasn’t in a hurry to take the kitty to the pet hospital. She believed this couldn’t be rushed. A kitten would absolutely develop a fear of the place after one visit. Even though this Ragdoll was very obedient and well-behaved, she still worried, so the preliminary soothing work had to be done properly.

Li You strutted forward boldly. He curiously observed the town’s environment while Little Wan Sis chattered nonstop beside his ears. He understood Little Wan Sis’s concerns, but he wasn’t afraid of shots at all. After all, he wasn’t an ordinary kitten.

The town was very clean, with a slow pace of life. Every household grew flowers and plants. It was beautiful and dreamy—the perfect place for Li You to spend his cat life.

The little cat, exuding a domineering aura, drew gazes from many residents. Li You held his head high and puffed out his chest, thoroughly enjoying it. But the next moment, his neck tightened. He splayed all four paws in an emergency brake and stopped, turning his head to look.

Little Wan Sis had stopped in front of a shop and was chatting with the owner.

With no choice, the empathetic little kitty sauntered back slowly, squatted beside Little Wan Sis, and stayed quiet and obedient like a meow-meow statue—majestic yet adorable.

Suddenly, the other end of the leash dropped beside his paw.

“…”

Li You lowered his head to stare at the leash, then looked up at Little Wan Sis. He saw her holding two large bags filled with cat food.

The considerate little cat buried his head and picked up the leash in his mouth, then, swaying unsteadily, followed Little Wan Sis.

Little Wan Sis carried two large bags and hugged two stacked boxes in her arms. She couldn’t bend down, so she called out, “Little Kitty.”

Li You stopped, released the leash from his mouth, and looked up. “Meow.”

Little Wan Sis smiled. “Let’s go home first and drop off the stuff before heading out.”

“Meow.”

He was a cat who responded to every call. After meowing, he picked up the leash again and continued following Little Wan Sis.

As they passed the town center square, Li You, holding the leash in his mouth while walking, noticed more people gathering there. He turned his head to look and keenly spotted a familiar face in the crowd.

The little cat’s expression changed abruptly. He bolted forward with the leash in his mouth.

Little Wan Sis, who had also spotted the crowd, suddenly saw a white blur dart past. Her expression froze, and she blurted out, “My cat!”

She quickly found a spot to set down her things and checked her wrist. Only then did she realize the leash on her wrist had come off at some point.

Li You pedaled his four legs at full speed, weaving flexibly through the crowd. He first spotted Peisengke among the officers.

Peisengke also noticed the kitty. After a moment of surprise, he squatted down and opened his arms. “Come here, little cutie.”

Li You made a sharp turn and bypassed him.

Peisengke: “…”

He turned back and saw the little cat had indeed run straight to Li Ye.

Li You released the leash from his mouth. With the little yellow hat on his head, he tilted his face up to look at Li Ye and placed a dusty paw on Li Ye’s military boot.

“Meow—”

The surrounding onlookers covered their mouths in surprise. “Ooh.”

Li You anxiously wanted to know what his brother had been up to last night. He patted his brother’s shoe urgently with his paw several times.

Li Ye glanced at his shoe, then at the cat. His gaze lingered on the Ragdoll’s bright blue eyes. Moments later, he bent down and picked up the cat.

With his four paws suddenly in the air, Li You was first surprised, then quickly calmed. He looked at his brother’s face up close and pondered how to extract information from him. Before he could meow, he suddenly felt a softness at the base of his tail.

Li You shuddered violently and hurriedly shifted his butt to tuck his tail underneath. He stared resentfully into his brother’s eyes and wailed loudly.

“What’s this little guy fussing about?” Peisengke stepped forward.

Li Ye didn’t know why the cat was yelling at him. He adjusted his hold on the cat and stopped moving. He saw the cat’s tail wedged under its butt and casually tried to pull it out, but his hand was pinned by that dusty paw.

Li You flew into a rage from embarrassment and let out a hiss.

How could anyone touch a cat’s butt casually?!

【Jerk!!】

“…” Li Ye remained expressionless as he looked at his hand pinned by the cat’s paw. He raised his eyes to Peisengke. “Did you hear anything?”

“What?” Peisengke, who was teasing the cat, replied. “If you’re talking about the candied hawthorn vendor, yeah, I heard that.”

Li Ye said nothing and continued looking at the cat. His gaze fell on the name tag hanging from the cat’s chest harness, where it read “Little Kitty.”

Confirming this was a cat with an owner, his eyes instantly darkened.

“Such a pretty kitty—gotta be a girl, right?” Peisengke suddenly said. “My friend is looking for a playmate for his bratty kid’s cat. Wonder if this little guy’s owner would be willing. I’d like to introduce my friend’s cat to this one.”

Li You, who was pondering how to pry information, was startled by this. He whipped his head around and stared at Peisengke in shock.

How could a kitty as majestic as him look like a girl??

Li Ye looked at the cat. “It’s a male cat.”

“How do you know?” Peisengke looked up.

Li Ye: “…”

Li You: “…”
