Chapter 93: Willing
The conference room door behind him was opened. Deng Xi heard the sound and couldn’t help but look back.
Has the little mute come out?
What entered his eyes was a figure in a black cloak. The other party seemed to have also noticed his gaze and slightly turned his head to look over. His old, wrinkled face and his cloudy, sizing-up eyes.
The Elder paused for a moment and narrowed his eyes.
This was the merman who could help the military improve the potion?
He leaned on his cane and slowly walked towards the golden-haired youth who was sitting alone in the sofa.
Deng Xi was stunned in place. He glanced at the adjutant who was still standing by the French windows in the distance, biting a cigarette, not knowing what he was thinking. William had his back to this side and didn’t notice at all that the Elder was approaching Deng Xi.
Deng Xi couldn’t help but hug the pillow and shrink into the sofa, extremely scared.
What did the bad guy want to do to him?
“Young man?” The Elder stood in front of Deng Xi. “I remember you. We’ve communicated.” He extended his hand.
Deng Xi looked at the other party warily, lowered his head, and pretended not to have seen this bad guy.
Seeing that the youth did not shake his hand, the Elder naturally withdrew his hand and did not care at all about the other party’s attitude of ignoring him. On the contrary, he smiled and said, “Don’t be afraid. They must have said a lot of bad things about me to you, right?”
“But have you ever thought that by listening to one side of the story, you might be wronging a good person and also be deceived yourself?”
Deng Xi finally couldn’t help but say, “You’re not a good person.”
The Elder said with a chuckle, “Oh no, young man, I don’t care what you think of me. I just think that you are too pitiful.”
Deng Xi was stunned for a moment, not understanding what this bad guy meant. He scrunched up his little face and said back, “You’re the pitiful one.”
The Elder smiled and said, “Am I not? You saved him and even gave up that communication with me for him. Such a large sum of star coins, you said you didn’t want it just like that. I admire your courage.”
“But in the end, didn’t the Marshal abandon you? Three years, how many three years do you have?”
“Don’t you want to know why you were abandoned at that time?”
It took Deng Xi a while to react. He subconsciously asked, “Why?”
The Elder said with a deep meaning, “Because the Marshal should have seen that communication between me and you and mistook you for a merman that was created by a human experiment. You don’t know, right? You worked so hard to save him, but at that time, he had always thought that you were the one who had harmed him.”
“So when he left, he did not hesitate and never thought of going back to that planet to find you. If it weren’t for a coincidence, you would have died forever in the hands of the star pirates.”
“Do you still think he is a good person now?”
“Look at you now, the last merman in the entire galaxy. You could have been the object of everyone’s admiration and pursuit, and you could have had whatever you wanted. But now, you have become a plaything tied to the Marshal’s side.”
He had inquired. The Marshal liked this merman very much, almost to the point of taking him wherever he went, and had even installed a tracker in the other party’s comm.
As long as one was a normal person, one would not be able to tolerate such a suffocating environment with no freedom at all.
The Elder, as if he had victory in his grasp, said slowly, “If you want to leave the Marshal, you can come and find me. I will help you, and I will not ask for any reward.”
“Do you want to go back to the ocean? Lonely merman.”
“Or what do you want? Money? Power? Freedom? I can give you all of them.”
As long as he left the Marshal’s side and let that damn gene-suppressing drug stop.
“But, I already know everything you’ve said.” Deng Xi was a little baffled. After a long while, he said, not understanding.
The Elder froze on the spot. He coughed a few times, holding his breath. “What did you say?”
Deng Xi said slowly, “Why do you think you know each other better than we do?”
The Elder’s lips trembled a few times, and he couldn’t say a single word.
“You also said that we’ve only met for the second time.” Deng Xi muttered, “What a strange old man. Can a human really be so ugly?”
The Elder’s eyes widened in anger. “What did you say!” His hand, which was holding the cane, was trembling.
Deng Xi was very disgusted with the other party’s self-righteous appearance and was a little angry. “And it’s not like that, it’s not like what you said at all.” He clumsily denied, one sentence at a time, “He was the one who saved me from the star pirates.”
He had rushed into the enemy camp alone, regardless of everything.
Although Deng Xi didn’t quite understand, he had memorized every single bit.
“And we deliberately slept late this morning. You must have been waiting here for a long, long time. You must also find it very strange. Then why do you think that a person who works so seriously and so hard every day would take the initiative to bring me to this kind of place to cause trouble?”
“It’s because I can’t leave him, and I need his care.”
It was clearly him who couldn’t grow human legs at the beginning and couldn’t leave the little mute’s care. This person was so good at turning black and white. He must not be led by him.
“You’re the one who wants to trick me.” Deng Xi said, word by word, and hummed, “I won’t go with such an ugly human like you.”
The Elder coughed violently, raised his cane and pointed at Deng Xi, his arm trembling. He took a few deep breaths, then resentfully put it down.
On the military’s territory, he still couldn’t openly attack the Marshal’s people.
From the trembling cane and the other party’s expression of being angry but not daring to speak, Deng Xi inexplicably saw his weakness. He didn’t know why, but he suddenly became not afraid.
His clear and bright blue eyes met the other party’s cloudy eyes without any fear.
Deng Xi knew that humans would all become not beautiful after they grew old, but this person was very strange. The merman’s sixth sense made him subconsciously reject the other party and subconsciously classify him as ugly.
It was as if his instincts were sending out a dangerous signal, telling him that his words could not be believed, and that he had to get away quickly, to run away.
This person must have done many, many bad things.
Deng Xi thought, the things that William had said, the other party probably couldn’t escape responsibility either.
Deng Xi asked curiously, “Have you been to see them?”
The Elder subconsciously asked in return, “Who?”
The golden-haired youth’s speech was slow, and his blue eyes were like the ocean, as if they could make people immersed in them. His clear voice seemed to be able to strike the heart directly. He raised his head and asked with great sincerity and curiosity, “Those who died three years ago.”
He was speaking the merman’s language.
The Elder was suddenly startled. He looked around and found that he was sitting on a flying ship, and the final destination on the blue screen was the martyrs’ cemetery on the imperial star.
This was not the route back to the Council of Elders.
The Elder’s face was strange. He suddenly said angrily, “Didn’t I say to go back to the Council of Elders immediately?!” He remembered that he had said this before he had left the military. How could the flying ship be heading to this damn place!
The pilot of the flying ship was also confused. “Elder, you did say that you wanted to go back to the Council of Elders before you boarded the flying ship. But you were staring out the window for some reason in the middle of it, and suddenly told us that you wanted to change course and go to the cemetery.”
The Elder suddenly looked at the white clouds that were rapidly passing by outside the window, and the blue sky that was as boundless as the ocean.
He did not speak for a long time. After a long while, he sighed heavily and knocked his cane hard.
·
“Marshal, I really didn’t smoke. I was just looking at the scenery for a while, really!” The adjutant had almost chewed this excuse to pieces. The moment he turned his head, he saw the Elder standing in front of Deng Xi, the two of them talking about something, and the Marshal was standing in front of the conference room door, his gaze cold as he looked over, his gaze meaningfully landing on the cigarette in his own hand.
The adjutant wished he could swallow this cigarette whole. He braced himself and, without another word, immediately saw the Elder and the group of bastards from the Council of Elders out.
And then Deng Xi watched as the adjutant lowered his head in annoyance and stood straight by the side of the sofa, constantly admitting his mistake.
Deng Xi was pulled up by the little mute.
Si Jisheng: “Turn around.”
Deng Xi obediently turned around.
He was fine, and there was no sign of any injury.
Si Jisheng completely ignored the adjutant behind him and asked in a low voice, “What did you talk about?”
Deng Xi secretly met the adjutant’s gaze behind the little mute. After receiving the other party’s pitiful cry for help, he couldn’t help but extend his fingertip and poke the little mute’s hand, letting the man respond.
Si Jisheng said concisely, “Extra training for ten days.”
The adjutant’s face was ashen.
Deng Xi tugged at the corner of the little mute’s clothes with a soft heart, stood on his tiptoes, and whispered in the little mute’s ear, “He didn’t do it on purpose either. I was the one who didn’t call him over immediately. Little Mute, just forgive him.”
Si Jisheng paused for a moment, then finally relented and changed his words, “Three days.”
The adjutant looked at Deng Xi with gratitude, as if he were his savior. Afraid that if he hesitated for a second, the Marshal would change his mind again, he directly turned and left, leaving the Marshal and his boyfriend to their own world.
Si Jisheng asked in a low voice, “What did he say to you?”
Deng Xi “hmm”-ed. “That bad guy said a lot of bad things about Little Mute, but I didn’t believe any of it.” He raised his head proudly, his eyelids curving. “I even made him so angry he couldn’t speak.”
Super amazing!
Si Jisheng “hmm”-ed. “And?”
Deng Xi thought for a moment, then complained angrily, “He also wanted me to leave Little Mute and send me back to the ocean.”
Si Jisheng’s fingertips stiffened slightly. After a moment, he slowly hugged Deng Xi. After they had a new relationship, the active party seemed to have changed.
The mechanical finger that was pressed on Deng Xi’s waist was a little forceful.
He seemed to be nervous.
But his tone was as steady as usual. He asked, word by word, “Don’t you want to go back to the ocean?”
Deng Xi was stunned for a moment, then his lips curved in anticipation. “I do.”
Si Jisheng pressed his lips together tightly.
Soon, Deng Xi said again, “I really, really want to go back to the ocean.” He broke free from the little mute’s embrace, and then, he held the stiff mechanical finger and ran to the side of the French windows.
Deng Xi looked at the sky outside. The floors of the human world were very, very high, so high that it seemed as if he could touch the blue sky and white clouds with a single stretch of his hand.
“The ocean is very beautiful, but the sky is also very beautiful.” Deng Xi turned his head, and his crystal-clear blue eyes curved. There was a dimple at the corner of his lips. “What should I do?” he asked for help.
“Little Mute, I’m a little greedy.”
Deng Xi gestured with his fingertips.
Mmm! Just a little bit!
“I don’t want to have one and not be able to have the other. I want both the ocean and the sky. I can’t bear to part with either.” Deng Xi met the silver eyes that had been looking at him. “Can Little Mute help me?”
“Are you willing to go back to the ocean with me to play, and then come back here with me?”
Si Jisheng did something he had wanted to do for a long, long time. He bent down, lowered his head, and his cold, thin lips unexpectedly kissed the corner of Deng Xi’s lips.
He had wanted to, countless times, when Deng Xi was curving his eyelids and saying things that would make him unable to come back to his senses for a long time, to use a kiss to bridge this blank period of time.
“I am.” In the gap between the kisses, his deep voice said seriously, “No matter where you want to go, I will always be there.”
