Chapter 98: Utilization Value
Outside the mine.
The sky had completely darkened.
The stars, millions of light-years away from Planet T27, hung in the black-purple night sky like a patchwork painting with sequins.
Thanks to these celestial bodies, the desert at night was not so dark that it was impossible to walk.
But the natural brightness that these celestial bodies could provide was still very limited. If you wanted to see some distant things, you still needed some professional equipment with night vision function.
One of Charlie’s subordinates, let’s call him No. 2, was at this time, holding a long-range night vision telescope provided by the financial backer behind Charlie, Joseph Hall Biotechnology, and was patrolling the situation outside the mine.
Not long ago, they had had a gunfight with two robbers who had occupied this place in advance, but the gunfight did not last long, and the two robbers ran away.
This was very common. Before receiving financial support from Joseph Hall Biotechnology, No. 2 was also like them, a desperate man who wandered in the desert at night, occupied territory, and robbed passing pedestrians or caravans.
Although they were called desperate men, they actually cherished their own lives the most. They just didn’t care about the lives of others, so if they couldn’t win, they would run. This was also the law of survival in the desert.
No. 2 continued to patrol with the telescope. He saw several other of Charlie’s subordinates, holding guns, wandering near the entrance of the mine. Apart from that, he didn’t see any other abnormalities.
No. 2 smacked his lips. At this moment, his craving for cigarettes had struck.
After getting a financial backer, their lives had become much more comfortable. He used to be able to smoke a pack of cigarettes for several months, but now he could finish a pack in three days.
Just as No. 2 was about to put down the telescope and take out a cigarette case to start smoking, a movement entered the field of view of the telescope and caught his attention.
“What the hell?” No. 2’s hand gripped the telescope tightly, and he said in surprise.
He saw a sand motorboat speeding by, and finally crashed into a not-so-high sand dune. Then, a person covered in fine sand stumbled out of the sand dune.
The person might be a little injured, but it was not a big problem. No. 2 saw that the person could at least still walk.
The person patted the yellow fine sand off his body, and No. 2 was able to see the person’s appearance. It was actually an Omega woman. No. 2 felt that this woman looked a little familiar.
After the woman had patted the sand off her body, her features were contorted, and her mouth was moving non-stop. No. 2 couldn’t read lips and couldn’t hear what she was saying, but he could tell from the girl’s facial expression that she was very angry. She must be cursing, and cursing very filthily.
“What the hell?” No. 2 had even forgotten about smoking.
This intruder didn’t look like a villain. No. 2 figured it was probably a straggler from some caravan.
But that didn’t matter. No matter who it was, he could just kill them. So No. 2 raised the gun in his hand. He held the telescope and calculated in his mind how to kill this Omega woman with one shot at the most precise angle.
However, the second before he was about to pull the trigger, the woman, who was still cursing, suddenly turned her head. She seemed to have sensed the danger, and her sharp, fox-like gaze instantly passed through the telescope and met No. 2’s eyes.
No. 2 was actually startled by her stare. In that one second of distraction, his hand holding the gun shifted a little, and his finger subconsciously pulled the trigger.
The bullet flew out of the muzzle and hit the sand by Claire’s foot.
“Damn it!” No. 2 cursed angrily. He put down the telescope, regretting his mistake in his heart. He rubbed his eye sockets and put the telescope to his eyes again.
Just as No. 2 was about to kill Claire again, he found that Claire had disappeared in the blink of an eye.
No. 2 cursed again. He no longer hesitated and turned to find another person.
His boss, Charlie, called this person Qiuyue. This person was also an Omega. No. 2, as a big, burly Alpha tough guy, naturally looked down on this Omega who looked a little pretty and had a somewhat ambiguous relationship with his boss.
But Charlie had said that this Omega was the contact person from the financial backer’s side, and Charlie had even let this Omega come to the battlefield and be in charge of commanding the ambush outside. No. 2 couldn’t throw a big Alpha tantrum at him.
No. 2 told Qiuyue what had happened. Qiuyue looked calm. He took the telescope from No. 2’s hand and looked in the direction No. 2 had indicated.
Soon, Qiuyue said, “I don’t see anything.”
“Impossible,” No. 2 said anxiously.
Qiuyue did not refute, but just handed the telescope back to No. 2. No. 2 took the telescope, and this time, as Qiuyue had said, he saw nothing. There was no overturned motorboat, and the footprints on the sand had also disappeared.
No. 2 had been active in the desert for many years and quickly realized what was going on. The wind in the desert was strong, and with a single blow, the traces on the sand could easily be covered by the flowing fine sand.
“If it’s as you said,” Qiuyue said, “this person doesn’t seem to be a threat. You can just kill her the next time you see her.”
No. 2 was silent. It seemed that was the only way.
But for some reason, No. 2 looked up at Qiuyue, and he felt that something was not right.
But he hadn’t had time to think much of it when a sound of gunshots and cracking rock layers suddenly came from inside the mine.
He frowned and looked at the half-collapsed entrance of the mine, which was emitting various strange blue lights. It was a flashbang, which could blind the enemy for a short period of time.
“Calm down,” Qiuyue, behind him, said. “I believe in Charlie’s strength. What about you?”
You’re his Omega. Of course you have to believe him, No. 2 thought, but what he said was, “Of course I also believe in the boss.”
“Get down!”
Wen En heard Romeo’s shout in his ear. The next moment, an impact knocked him to the ground.
Then, the rock behind Wen En was as if it had been hit by a bullet. A part of the rock was blasted to smithereens, and the rubble even got Wen En’s face dirty.
“Are you okay?” Romeo said.
“I’m fine,” Wen En said, pulling off the burlap sack on his head.
It was just that being hit by an Alpha who was nearly 190cm tall was no less lethal than catching a missile with his bare hands. Fortunately, Wen En was strong and well-trained. If it were an ordinary office worker Beta, he would have probably fainted on the spot.
“Go to hell,” Charlie’s voice sounded again in the darkness.
“Close your eyes!” then Tara’s angry shout also sounded.
Wen En did not hesitate. He knew that Romeo was right in front of him, so he grabbed Romeo’s head without hesitation and pressed it to the ground.
“Wen En, the sand is getting in my mouth!”
“Shut up and close your eyes,” Wen En said, closing his eyes and lying on the ground.
The moment he finished speaking, a bright, strange blue light suddenly exploded, and a few miserable screams came from inside the mine.
Wen En opened his eyes and at the same time, released the hand that was tightly pressing on the back of Romeo’s head.
“Cough, cough, cough, I almost couldn’t breathe,” Romeo said, spitting out the sand in his throat.
A painful groan came from the direction of the entrance, “My eyes, my eyes…”
Obviously, that voice was not Charlie’s, but another person Wen En did not know. Wen En guessed that it was probably one of Charlie’s subordinates who had been injured by the flashbang.
Wen En did not speak, but just frowned slightly, briefly glanced in the direction the sound was coming from, and then grabbed Romeo’s hand and, under Tara’s instructions, fumbled to hide in the mine tunnel behind him.
“My eyes are bleeding… boss… save me…”
Charlie’s subordinate kept making painful sounds.
And Charlie just “tsked.” He took out a lighting tool. The light lit up, and all the subordinates’ faces were reflected in the light.
Including the subordinate whose eyes had been blinded by the flashbang. In fact, his eyes were not bleeding, but the whites of his eyes were red and swollen, and a sticky discharge was covering the corners of his eyes. His dark, dull pupils also looked very abnormal.
This time, Charlie did not answer, but just removed the silencer from his gun and pulled the trigger at the head of the wailing subordinate.
The other subordinates were all shocked by this scene. Red blood mixed with a milky white pulp splashed on their bodies.
“Are you… crazy?”
One of the subordinates said in disbelief.
“Do you expect me to drag this hindrance to the hospital?” Charlie said without a care. “Even if he survives, he’ll just be a poor blind man for the rest of his life. This is the most efficient way I can think of.”
The subordinates were speechless, but their faces were filled with fear and shock.
“Put away your weak and useless expressions,” Charlie put the silencer on the muzzle of the gun and said:
“Hurry up. We’ll continue to kill that Scotch brother.”
With that, Charlie walked away without looking back.
The other subordinates looked at each other, and then, their gazes briefly lingered on the subordinate whose head had been blown off by Charlie’s shot.
Finally, they looked at Charlie’s retreating back, and their legs unconsciously followed behind him, heading deeper into the mine.
“I didn’t expect our enemy to help us get rid of another enemy,” Tara’s teasing voice came into Wen En’s ear from the Bluetooth earpiece.
“Don’t you think this action is very in line with Charlie’s character?” Romeo squeezed the back of Wen En’s hand and said, “But I still want to say, this guy is really a lunatic, a sanctimonious lunatic. As long as he thinks someone is useless, he can kill them with one shot, even if they’ve followed him for so many years.”
No wonder Charlie and Peter are connected. Charlie and Peter are like two pieces of dog shit attracting each other, Romeo thought silently.
Seeing that Wen En was not speaking, Romeo blinked and said in a low voice, “Are you scared?”
“How could I be?” Wen En laughed. “I’m just thinking about the next step.”
“You pretty boy wouldn’t know shit. Wen En has probably seen this kind of thing a lot, right? Not just his own subordinates, but when they were at their craziest, they didn’t even spare the old, weak, women, and children,” Tara said. “Do you know about human bombs? After those robbers hijacked some young children, they placed…”
“Shh…” before Tara could finish, Wen En interrupted him.
“Let’s not talk about this nonsense,” Wen En said. “Charlie and the others are coming. Let’s ambush them first, and then act according to the situation.”
