With his family’s approval and praise, Su Wenyu himself was blinded, now genuinely believing he had a gift for cooking.
Thus, early the next morning, before the sun was even up, Su Wenyu was back in the kitchen, continuing his studies.
Three meals a day. From irregularly shaped tangyuan for breakfast, to hand-rolled noodles of uneven thickness and length at noon, to the wontons at night.
Su Wenyu participated in and personally made every single one, pouring all his cooking enthusiasm into it.
Shi Pei, who always controlled her carb intake, ended up eating carbs for three meals in a row.
Finally, when the 2nd arrived, the household was at last free from the fear of being dominated by carbs. Su Wenyu and Zhou Xu went out to play!
The meeting spot Su Wenyu, Xia Yehang, and the others had agreed upon was the high-speed railway station for the 9 AM train.
After breakfast, Su Wenyu and Zhou Xu grabbed their suitcases and had the Su family driver take them to the station.
Around 8:15, the two of them arrived.
After Zhou Xu got out of the car, he took both of their suitcases directly from the driver—he didn’t let Su Wenyu carry anything.
The weather was sweltering that day. Su Wenyu wore a white T-shirt with graffiti art, light-colored jeans, and a green messenger bag slung across his body. Standing at the station entrance, he drew eyes like a magnet.
Especially with the tall and broad Zhou Xu behind him—the attention-grabbing factor was doubled.
Zhou Xu glanced at the signs and found the business-class lounge. “This way.”
Su Wenyu was momentarily confused. “Isn’t that the entrance to go in?”
Zhou Xu explained, “Shen Yi booked business class. We can go directly through the business lane and into the lounge.”
Su Wenyu’s expression turned to understanding. “Ohh~” He’d learned something new.
Going through the business-class security lane was much faster than the regular one.
After registering their ID information at the front desk, Zhou Xu pushed their luggage and led Su Wenyu to a spot on the sofas to sit down.
It was Su Wenyu’s first time in a lounge like this. He was a bit curious when he saw the snacks on the table.
“Can we eat these?” Su Wenyu worried he’d make a fool of himself by touching what he shouldn’t, so he quickly leaned close to Zhou Xu’s ear and whispered his question.
Su Wenyu’s breath was soft and warm, and it felt pleasant against his ear.
Zhou Xu pretended not to have heard clearly. “What?”
Su Wenyu pointed at the little snack tray in front of him and asked again, “Can we eat these?”
Zhou Xu was satisfied. He nodded. “Yes.”
Zhou Xu had ridden business class before, but he didn’t know what the lounge was like. However, he’d done his homework online, specifically watching videos like [How to Ride Business Class for the First Time]. He’d even learned how to use all the seat controls once on board.
But Zhou Xu found it a little strange that Su Wenyu didn’t know these things.
“You never took the high-speed train when you went out to play before? Or just never business class?” Zhou Xu asked.
Su Wenyu, still unaware he’d revealed another small detail, replied while opening a packet of crab-flavored sunflower seeds, “Never taken the high-speed train before.”
“Oh.” Zhou Xu thought it over. If traveling, short distances might mean a driver, and long distances a plane—that was possible.
Zhou Xu easily set the curiosity aside and reached out to open a bag of small crispy broad beans for Su Wenyu.
Su Wenyu munched on his snacks for about five minutes before Shen Yi and Xia Yehang arrived.
During this National Day break, Shen Yi and Xia Yehang had told their families they were going out to have fun, so they simply hadn’t gone home at all. This was to avoid any feather duster receptions that would prevent them from leaving again.
And their choice had definitely been the right one, especially for Xia Yehang. Father Xia had already purchased ten different types of feather dusters and, having nothing else to do at home, had been swinging them around to practice.
When Xia Yehang didn’t come back this time, Father Xia had fumed that the brat dodged it, but he’d make him pay during winter break!
Not seeing each other for a few days, Xia Yehang felt Su Wenyu had gotten even better-looking. His eyes were glued to Su Wenyu’s face, reluctant to look away.
Su Wenyu handed him a few packs of snacks. “Have you guys had breakfast?”
“Yeah,” Xia Yehang said, accepting his breakfast and happily taking a seat across from him.
Shen Yi placed his suitcase carefully and sat down on the single sofa next to Su Wenyu, asking how his break had been so far.
Su Wenyu immediately launched into a spirited account of learning to make dumplings, tangyuan, and hand-pulled noodles.
Xia Yehang listened, amazed. “How are you so talented?!”
Shen Yi asked, “Will we have a chance to try your dumplings sometime?”
Su Wenyu promised: “Absolutely. Next time there’s an opportunity!”
With the four of them just reunited, the atmosphere between Zhou Xu, Xia Yehang, and Shen Yi was maintained fairly harmoniously for the moment.
As boarding time approached, an attendant from the lounge came over early to check their tickets and then led them through the manual lane onto the platform.
The neighboring city wasn’t far from S City. Su Wenyu felt like he barely had time to finish his tea before they arrived.
At the destination, since they had four suitcases and several backpacks, they couldn’t fit in one car, so they hailed two taxis.
But because everyone wanted to ride in the same car as Su Wenyu, he ended up in the front passenger seat, with the three tall guys crammed into the back. Meanwhile, the suitcases rode solo in the car behind them.
As the taxi drove, Su Wenyu, for the first time, began to doubt the intelligence of the three men in the back.
They’d be spending the next few days together anyway—was it really necessary to squeeze into the same car now?
Even the suitcases were sitting more comfortably than they were.
The taxi’s back seat was limited, and the three guys were all tall and broad-shouldered, so their arms and shoulders were completely packed together.
Xia Yehang, stuck in the very middle, had nowhere to put his long legs and had to fold himself up pitifully.
When the car braked suddenly, Xia Yehang had to grab the two front seats to avoid tumbling forward.
The taxi drove for about half an hour before finally reaching Su Wenyu’s large flat in the city center.
As Su Wenyu had mentioned, the original host’s apartment here was designed with only one bedroom in a minimalist style. So if they stayed the night, they’d really have to sleep on the floor.
Luckily, there were plenty of spare comforters in the closets, and the weather had been pretty hot these days, so sleeping on the floor would be fine. After tucking their suitcases into a corner, the guys proactively took the comforters out to air on the balcony and get some sun.
“Let’s go rafting first, then get lunch. How about that?” Xia Yehang checked the map; it was about a forty-minute drive to the rafting spot, and the experience itself took around fifty minutes.
It was 10:30 AM right now. They’d definitely be done by 1 PM, which was perfect for lunch. Then they could visit the nearby zoo to walk off the meal.
Xia Yehang’s plan was reasonable enough, and no one objected.
Rafting required bringing an extra set of clothes and shoes, preferably a towel too. In the dressing room, Su Wenyu picked out a backpack belonging to the original host and packed his own clothes and shoes. For towels, the four of them went down to the supermarket in the building and bought four.
This time, Xia Yehang and the others had learned their lesson. To avoid getting squished in the middle again for forty minutes, Xia Yehang directly booked a seven-seater van through a friend.
Su Wenyu sat up front, and everyone in the back could have their own seat, comfortably spaced out.
To get to the rafting site without hitting traffic, they needed to take the highway for part of the way. After getting off the highway, it was another ten minutes to the mountain where the rafting was based.
The car could drive up and park halfway up the mountain. Xia Yehang paid the driver for the entire day, making him their private chauffeur. After the four of them got out, it was just a few minutes’ walk to the ticket office.
This rafting spot wasn’t the most popular, but during National Day, it still drew quite a crowd.
Luckily, the ticket line wasn’t too long. After buying their tickets, the four of them queued up for the minibus that would take them up the mountain.
The minibus came every ten minutes. When Su Wenyu got on, the bus was already packed, and they could only stand in the aisle. For taller guys like Zhou Xu, they had to duck their heads just to stand.
Sandwiched protectively among the three of them, Su Wenyu was kept in a little bubble of space and didn’t feel too cramped.
After the bus navigated several winding mountain roads and stopped at the rafting launch point, the people crammed inside collectively let out a sigh of relief.
Especially the tourists standing near Xia Yehang and the others—they’d tried to squeeze in, but Xia Yehang was a solid wall; he didn’t budge an inch. The poor tourists could only smash themselves together and finally breathed fresh air after getting off.
The rafting staff guided everyone into the queue to board. The rafts seated two per boat.
When it was Su Wenyu’s turn, the staff member casually asked, “Who are you sitting with?”
The three guys behind him raised their hands simultaneously. “Me.”
Su Wenyu: “…”
The staff member looked at them strangely and said, “Only two people per raft. Best if the two have similar weights.”
So Xia Yehang, Shen Yi, and Zhou Xu all declared their weights.
Xia Yehang, as a sports exam candidate who worked out constantly, was the heaviest of the three.
Zhou Xu came in second, just one jin lighter than Xia Yehang.
Ultimately, Shen Yi got the chance to share a raft with Su Wenyu. Xia Yehang was so jealous.
“Make sure you look out for Wenyu,” Xia Yehang told him reluctantly, silently vowing to lose weight as soon as he got back!
Shen Yi, in a rather good mood, nodded his thanks to the staff member and then reached out to help Su Wenyu board the raft first.
Zhou Xu’s eyes fell on Su Wenyu’s hand resting in Shen Yi’s palm, his expression none too pleased either.
Once Shen Yi was also seated, the staff member loudly reminded them: “Helmets on properly, legs out straight, and hold onto the handrails on both sides.”
Su Wenyu gripped the handrails and did as told.
But he and Shen Yi were sitting facing each other. Su Wenyu’s legs were somewhat awkwardly wedged between Shen Yi’s long legs, leaving him at a loss. “How do I stretch them out? There’s nowhere to put them.”
“It’s fine, just put them however feels natural.” The space inside the raft was limited. Fully stretching your legs was impossible. You just had to bend them. Staying steady was mainly about gripping the handrails tightly.
Su Wenyu could only bend his legs slightly, trying not to crowd Shen Yi.
Seeing they were secure, the staff member used a pole to push them off.
Su Wenyu turned back to wave at Zhou Xu and Xia Yehang. “We’re heading down first~”
Zhou Xu and Xia Yehang had just gotten onto their raft. Two big, tall guys sitting together made the raft suddenly seem rather small. The staff member had to put in some effort to shove them off.
The two couldn’t stand the sight of each other, their legs each keeping as far away from the other as possible.
By then, Su Wenyu’s raft had already floated with the current to the first drop point. The heavier person, facing backwards toward the drop, went down first. Su Wenyu watched as the staff member hooked Shen Yi’s end of the raft and guided them to the entry point.
“We’re going down, we’re going down!” Su Wenyu immediately tightened his grip on the handrails, even his toes inside his shoes curling up.
Shen Yi had his back to the drop. All he felt was a sudden sensation of weightlessness, followed by a bang as the raft hit the slope and swiftly shot downward.
“Ah—” Su Wenyu shrieked with exhilaration, enjoying the speed and thrill.
When Zhou Xu and the others turned to look, they couldn’t even see a shadow of the two anymore.
