Chapter 135
The lead player, a remote detonator in one hand and a teleportation prop in the other, was about to press the button
when a small child suddenly appeared, blocking his path. He looked at the child, then chuckled coldly.
“Is this your kid?”
His eyes glinting with malice, he took a step closer.
“Looks like you and your son will die here together! How fitting, buried in the snow, a family of three!”
Just as he was about to press the detonator, Wen Xingxue knocked it out of his hand and kicked him into a corner.
Xing Nuo, his face red with anger, his cheeks puffed out like a pufferfish, his eyelashes wet with melted snowflakes, yelled:
“You so bad! Burned our house…now want to burn Daddy and me!”
“I tell police uncle…awwest you all!”
He then turned to his dad, patting his hand reassuringly.
“It’s okay, Daddy. I pwotect you! They can’t defeat me!”
His face beaming with confidence, as if he truly was a powerful protector, capable of shielding his dad from harm.
Shen Wen’s heart melted at the sight of his brave little one, a warmth spreading through him.
“Zaizai so stwong. Daddy will have to rely on Xing Nuo from now on.”
Shen Wen, crouching down, not even glancing at the pathetic players, ruffled Xing Nuo’s hair and pulled him into a hug.
Xing Nuo, his ears turning pink, giggled and nuzzled his dad’s neck.
“Not that stwong…but bad men can’t defeat me.”
As they whispered to each other, Wen Xingxue, the murderous intent fading from his eyes, a soft smile playing on his lips, walked towards them.
Suddenly, his eyes narrowed, and he yelled, his voice hoarse:
“Shen Wen! Behind you!”
The player Shen Wen had knocked unconscious earlier had woken up and, seeing his teammates defeated, grabbed his only high-level prop, a gun, and aimed it at Shen Wen.
Everything happened in a flash. Shen Wen, unable to dodge, quickly covered Xing Nuo’s eyes.
Xing Nuo’s world was plunged into darkness, his senses dulled.
He felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if he had been in this situation many times before, adults shielding him from something gruesome.
But he wasn’t afraid.
He heard Shen Wen’s voice, hoarse and strained:
“Wen Xingxue!”
A heavy thud, followed by Shen Wen’s cry and the soft sound of falling snow, assaulted his ears.
Shen Wen, no longer covering his eyes, Xing Nuo looked up and saw, not the white snow,
but a splash of crimson blood on Shen Wen’s hand and Wen Xingxue’s clothes.
Xing Nuo froze, watching as Wen Xingxue lay on the ground, a gaping hole in his chest, blood pooling in the snow.
Wen Xingxue hadn’t said a word.
The high-level prop gun was too powerful, and Wen Xingxue’s strength, suppressed by the dungeon, hadn’t been enough to protect him.
He had also forgotten how to use some of his props due to the memory loss, and in that final moment, he had only thought of shielding Shen Wen and Xing Nuo.
He lay there, his eyes closed, his breathing stilled.
Shen Wen and Xing Nuo, their faces mirroring each other’s shock and disbelief, checked for a pulse, then quickly withdrew their hands.
Shen Wen wasn’t sad, but he didn’t feel any sense of triumph either.
And he realized that with Wen Xingxue’s death, the dungeon seemed to be ending.
The players received a system notification:
[Congratulations! You have fulfilled the dungeon clear conditions!]
Shen Wen realized that the way to escape this dungeon had been to kill Wen Xingxue.
It seems I really did hate him, he thought. Creating a dungeon just for him, his death the only escape route.
Xing Nuo, walking over to Wen Xingxue’s body, nudged him gently, tears rolling down his cheeks.
“Waaah, Other Daddy, wake up. So cold…can’t sleep here…”
The players, overjoyed, having thought they were doomed, eagerly pressed the confirmation button on their system panels, waiting to be transported back to Central City.
But instead of returning, the dungeon distorted, then reset.
[Notice! Core dungeon monster upgraded to SSS+ level. Dungeon recreating! Merging with Tulip Manor dungeon! Please clear the updated dungeon!]
The players’ eyes widened in horror as they turned to look at the golden-haired man, his hands covered in blood.
He’s an SSS-level monster?!
Shen Wen, his clothes stained with blood, smiled coldly.
“See you later. I hope you’re lucky enough to survive until then.”
The players yelled in frustration, but they couldn’t stop the inevitable and were transported to the next dungeon.
The wind howled on the rooftop, the distant cityscape of the dungeon crumbling rapidly.
Faster than the collapsing buildings earlier, Shen Wen, seeing their own building about to collapse, picked up Xing Nuo, who was still crying, and gently wiped his tears.
“It’s okay, Xing Nuo. You still have Daddy.”
Xing Nuo, his face buried in his dad’s chest, hiccuping, his shoulders shaking, couldn’t stop crying.
“But…but Other Daddy gone…”
Shen Wen, looking at the disappearing dungeon, then down at Wen Xingxue’s lifeless body, his eyes lowered, murmured:
“Wen Xingxue, you were too foolish.”
Actually believing Shen Wen and accepting his challenge.
In a dungeon created by Shen Wen, he could never win.
But Shen Wen, the victor, didn’t feel any sense of triumph. He carried Xing Nuo and vanished from the collapsing dungeon.
Wen Xingxue had never expected to be dragged into a horror dungeon.
He was a quiet and reserved person, an orphan, and had just graduated from university when he was pulled into a newbie dungeon.
Despite his quiet nature, his handsome face and sharp features, he had performed exceptionally well, leading the other bewildered newbies to victory.
Several of the newbies wanted to follow him, and he hadn’t refused, thinking that, as fellow humans, helping each other increased their chances of survival.
But he hadn’t expected betrayal to come so quickly.
It was his first high-level dungeon, an A-rank dungeon, limited to the first floor of a castle.
He and the other players had been cautiously avoiding the monster servants, investigating the secrets of the castle kitchen, while also wary of the elusive butler.
Then, one night, during a fight with a monster, his teammates had pushed him towards the monster as a distraction and escaped.
The reason was simple: they had grown tired of him.
“If you die, we can live! Wen Xingxue, blame your bad luck and poor judgment!”
Wen Xingxue, watching helplessly as his teammates, who had already found the clue to escape, vanished, his heart sank.
They had already found the way out!
And they had kept it a secret from him!
He didn’t have time for anger or resentment. He raised his knife, fighting his way through the monsters, a gaping wound on his chest, his blood flowing freely.
He stumbled into a basement, seeking refuge.
The basement, strangely both eerie and cozy, seemed to be some kind of laboratory, a fleshy mass suspended in a transparent container.
But the mass seemed lifeless.
Wen Xingxue, exhausted, wanting only to hide and rest, stumbled inside, clutching his wound.
He tripped over something, and a few drops of his blood fell onto the fleshy mass.
Instantly, the mass seemed to come alive.
A strong heartbeat echoed through the room, and before Wen Xingxue could react, a powerful force slammed into him.
“Who let you in here?!”
Wen Xingxue, who had considered himself strong, was no match for this golden-haired monster.
A knife pierced his chest, and before he could even speak, his breathing stopped.
This was Wen Xingxue’s first death.
Unlike other players with natural element or physical enhancement abilities, Wen Xingxue’s power grew stronger with each death.
His power doubled with every death.
But the experience was excruciating, and after reviving, he had spent over half a month in Central City, recovering.
His body felt like it had been crushed and rebuilt, and after experiencing more and more horrific dungeons, his personality had become more extreme, his demeanor colder and more menacing.
He had wanted to find his former teammates and get revenge, but he learned they had all died in various dungeons.
Without his protection, their true weakness exposed, they had perished, their deaths unnoticed and unremembered.
His desire for revenge now focused solely on Shen Wen, who had killed him.
He started challenging Shen Wen’s high-level dungeons, their battles always ending in a stalemate, neither able to defeat the other.
Until he met Xing Nuo, sick and feverish, in the castle, and then the ugly little clown doll, his path of revenge finally ending.
Looking at Xing Nuo, he thought, This connection, this bond, will finally free me from this darkness.
