Xing Nuo smiled, his eyes crinkling into happy crescents.

“Yes. I no forget anymore.”

Lu Qi, happy that Xing Nuo remembered him, didn’t question it.

Xing Nuo, glancing at the people around them, pulled Lu Qi to a more secluded spot under a tree.

“Xiao Qi, how you come here?”

Xing Nuo, remembering his summer break was starting soon, no more school during the day, thought for a moment.

“How ’bout tomowwow morning? We go see!”

He was also curious about this “gap between worlds.”

They exchanged updates about their lives. Xing Nuo was busy with elementary school, while Lu Qi was traveling through the horror world, stealing energy, and was now a wanted criminal.

Xing Nuo’s eyes widened in alarm. “That’s dangerous!”

With so many monsters after him, Lu Qi must have been desperate to escape the horror world, which was why he had come to find him.

Lu Qi, unfazed, shrugged.

Lu Qi nodded, remembering their past, and sighed.

“We were. Like now…but worse. But it’s over now. I can steal energy myself.”

Xing Nuo, speechless for a moment, then said softly:

“You…be careful.”

Lu Qi hummed and waved.

“I go now. Xing Nuo go home. I wait for you here tomorrow!”

Xing Nuo wanted to take Lu Qi home with him. He had no one here and would have to sleep on the streets.

But Lu Qi shook his head, not wanting to face Xing Nuo’s terrifying monster family.

“No need. I go back to…gap between worlds. More monsters passing by…can steal more.”

Lu Qi is really obsessed with stealing energy, Xing Nuo thought.

He asked Lu Qi the next day.

“When in danger…energy comes out…can be used.”

Xing Nuo, understanding some of it, nodded.

Lu Qi, after thinking for a moment, hummed in agreement.

“Similar. But flying…not realistic. But with props…can fly.”

Xing Nuo, not quite understanding, but not wanting to ask more questions, said:

“Let’s go see…gap between worlds!”

Lu Qi, taking his hand, nodded and led him towards a wall.

Xing Nuo, thinking they were about to crash into the wall, but trusting Lu Qi, closed his eyes and walked forward.

The wall shimmered like water, and he stepped through it, into a dark, narrow space.

It was pitch black, and he couldn’t even see his hand in front of his face.

Lu Qi’s cold, mechanical voice sounded beside him, his hand gripping Xing Nuo’s tightly.

“Xing Nuo, don’t be afraid. We’ll be there soon.”

Xing Nuo felt like he had walked down this dark path before, searching for his dad, but his memory was hazy.

They walked in silence, Lu Qi’s blue eyes the only source of light.

Xing Nuo, his gaze fixed on Lu Qi’s eyes, followed him.

After a few minutes, they reached an open area.

Their surroundings, once dark, were now brightly lit.

Jagged cliffs, a smoking volcano in the distance, a deep chasm at their feet, the landscape desolate and dangerous.

Xing Nuo, feeling the heat from the volcano, took a step back.

“This volcano?”

Lu Qi nodded.

“Edge of monster world…border with human world.”

Dangerous and treacherous, difficult for both humans and monsters to cross.

Lu Qi pointed.

“That volcano…always erupting before. Hot lava…flowed into cracks…powerful energy…no one could approach.”

Xing Nuo, sensing the danger, asked:

“Now?”

Lu Qi, thinking about his investigation, turned to Xing Nuo.

He pointed.
