Chapter 58

The Alliance Admiral’s private flight vehicle, even after serving as a camping dorm for over half a month, still retained its excellent performance. A city thousands of kilometers away was reached in just over an hour at the flight vehicle’s speed.

If not for the required slowdown on flight paths near the city suburbs, Mu Chenxing had no doubt they could have gotten there even faster.

The zero-gravity sensation was a bit intense.

Fortunately, he’d undergone two weeks of zero-gravity training and slept on a Hover Bed for over half a month. Otherwise, he would’ve puked everywhere today.

Feeling a slight discomfort, he followed Pei Yao as they wound through the streets and finally arrived in front of the rented house.

The contract had already been signed online, with the deposit and two months’ rent paid. The landlord had sent over the access code—they just needed to reset it.

Mu Chenxing fiddled with it according to the instructions and registered his fingerprint.

He’d already checked the house details online, complete with videos and photos. The real thing matched perfectly, and he was very satisfied. After circling the place twice, he started shopping along the daily living routes.

Two sets of bedding, two sets of toiletries, two sets of dishes, daily necessities… He kept adding items to his cart all the way to the entryway, tossing in two pairs of indoor slippers last. That pretty much covered everything.

Mu Chenxing glanced at the bill totaling over a thousand, mentally calculating his expenses and potential future costs. He frowned. He couldn’t rely on just these tens of thousands. He needed to find ways to make money—at least enough to cover living and tuition for the next few years.

He pulled up the options he’d eyed before and pondered their feasibility one by one—

Huh?

Where was Pei Yao?

Mu Chenxing turned back in confusion.

Hadn’t he just been chattering in his ear about wanting one too? Where’d he go?

Circling back through the entryway, he spotted the tall, long-legged Pei Yao leaning against the dining table, staring blankly at the Holo-Screen.

“Ge?”

Pei Yao instantly broke into a smile, shut off the Holo-Screen, and rose to greet him. “What’s up, baby~?”

The smile switched seamlessly, almost imperceptibly unnatural.

Almost.

Mu Chenxing’s expression cooled. “If you’ve got something to do, go handle it. No need to force yourself.”

Pei Yao’s smile didn’t falter. “What’re you thinking? It’s New Year’s. What could possibly come up?”

Mu Chenxing stared at him. “You’re not going home for New Year’s?”

Pei Yao feigned shock. “Am I not spending New Year’s right here?”

Mu Chenxing: “…My dad will kill you.”

Pei Yao gave him a pitiful look. “Little Star will protect me, right?”

Mu Chenxing was cold and ruthless. “No.”

Pei Yao’s face fell as he hugged him. “Little Star, how can you be so heartless—”

Mu Chenxing clamped a hand over his mouth, expressionless. “One more chance—what about your family? Where are you spending New Year’s?”

Pei Yao pulled his hand down, kissed the back of it, and grinned. “New Year’s is for spending with my baby, of course~”

“…Dodging the main issue.” Mu Chenxing shoved him away and turned to leave. “Since the Admiral won’t say, you must have a packed New Year’s schedule. Our humble home can’t host you. You’re on your own.”

Pei Yao: “?!”

He grabbed him, spinning him back around. “Star? You mad?”

Mu Chenxing paused, frowning.

…Why was he mad?

Pei Yao leaned in close, brushing a kiss to the tip of his nose, chuckling lowly. “Really mad, huh? Because I didn’t mention my New Year’s plans?”

Another kiss to the corner of his mouth. “I’ve been on the Border for over a decade. I really don’t have New Year’s traditions. Wasn’t on purpose.”

Mu Chenxing slowly exhaled and looked up at him. “What about your family? You haven’t gone back for New Year’s in over ten years. Now that you’re transferred back for duty this year, you’re not even visiting?”

He hesitated, then asked, “Is your family situation… complicated?”

Like his own.

Pei Yao: “Not really.”

After a few seconds’ hesitation, he said, “Every time I go back, it’s a blind date banquet. New Year’s is even worse. Too lazy to deal.”

Mu Chenxing: “…That’s it? What’s there to avoid about that?”

“You wouldn’t get it.” Pei Yao’s hands settled on his lower back as he sighed. “There are plenty of unmarried Alphas my age, but no Admirals. The one time I went back after my promotion, I stayed three days and met nearly 30 Omegas in one.”

“I never knew we had so many relatives.”

“Of course, my father and dad didn’t either.”

Mu Chenxing: “…”

He kind of wanted to laugh.

Pei Yao looked helpless. “Go ahead and laugh. My dad already laid down the law—no going home till I find someone. That trip annoyed him to death. Apparently, a ton of people started hounding them half a month early, driving them nuts.”

Mu Chenxing: “…Yeah, that does sound rough.”

Pei Yao gave him puppy eyes. “So, you’ll let me spend New Year’s with you, right?”

Mu Chenxing: “I’ll feed you, but no sleepover.”

Pei Yao’s eyes widened in genuine surprise. “For real? You’re not scared of your dad anymore?”

Mu Chenxing: “Scared of what? If there’s trouble, you’re the one getting beat. I’m just the fragile, bullied, taken-advantage-of Omega.”

Pei Yao: “…”

He couldn’t help but chuckle lowly.

But Mu Chenxing suddenly reached up and pinched his cheek. “That wasn’t why I got mad earlier, though.”

Pei Yao: “?”

“Don’t play mood-swing games in front of me.” Mu Chenxing released him with a glare. “I’m dating you, not acting in a play with you.”

Pei Yao froze.

Mu Chenxing huffed lightly, pried his arms off, and turned to find the cleaning robot’s manual. He started tidying the new place.

Pei Yao trailed after him like a shadow. As Mu Chenxing followed the instructions step by step to activate it, Pei Yao hugged his waist from behind and explained solemnly, “Baby, I wasn’t acting. I was just peacocking for you—y’know? Pure courtship display~”

Mu Chenxing shot him a sidelong glance. “Haven’t evolved yet?”

Still courtship.

Pei Yao grinned cheekily. “Depends if you’ve evolved, baby. You evolve, I evolve. You don’t, I don’t.”

Mu Chenxing: “…”

He was wasting his breath talking to this guy.

He activated the various cleaning robots, confirmed they were working, linked all the devices to his wristband, and headed out to eat with Pei Yao.

On the way, he didn’t forget to send the new home address to Luo Chen, who was en route through space.

Mu Chenxing had sent dozens of applications on Luo Chen’s behalf. According to him, four schools had accepted him. After consideration, he’d chosen a middle school in District 27 on Central Star.

Luo Chen had originally worked as a teaching assistant in research while doubling as an art appreciation teacher, so Mu Chenxing had applied for those roles.

Especially the latter.

Luo Chen had earned certifications in ancient painting appraisal, ancient crafts appraisal, and more over the years, making his art appreciation credentials top-tier. The new school hired him directly for that position.

Mu Chenxing had checked current middle school curricula—cultural classes didn’t factor into major exams, but this society seemed to value cultural literacy highly. Better schools had more specialized ones.

For Luo Chen to earn nearly ten high-value certs while enduring severe disability showed his character and ability…

Pei Yao said Luo Chen was a lot like him.

Mu Chenxing couldn’t help starting to look forward to getting along with Luo Chen.

Interstellar fixed-point warp tech made the jump from Galaxy Star to Central Star just four days, with the remaining voyage taking one more day. Port landing, transfers to District 27—another day.

So, Luo Chen would arrive in District 27 tomorrow.

Mu Chenxing and Pei Yao ate, then returned to school. They spent two hours in the empty campus mixing training with horseplay.

Early next morning, Mu Chenxing packed his bags and flew back to the new place in District 27 with Pei Yao.

He only had a few days off and hadn’t brought much luggage, but yesterday’s purchases had all arrived. After a quick tidy-up together, Mu Chenxing tried shoving Pei Yao toward a hotel.

Pei Yao sat at the dining table, unmoving, trying to play spoiled. “You had me pack changes of clothes. Wasn’t that for staying with you? How can you bear to kick me out?”

Mu Chenxing: “Not here—the flight vehicle’s a no-go too. No shower there. During New Year’s, if you get stinky, don’t even think of coming through my door.”

Pei Yao: “…”

Mu Chenxing: “Of course, you could go to the new place at school. Guaranteed comfy.”

Pei Yao touched his nose and obediently pulled up the Holo-Screen to book a room at District 27’s top luxury hotel.

Mu Chenxing saw the price and winced. “You’re only staying a few days, just for showers and sleep. Why pick something so pricey?”

One night’s cost beat a month’s rent for the suite.

Pei Yao sighed helplessly. “Only these have the highest security. Personal info’s less likely to leak… I don’t want to make headlines for taking an underage Omega to a hotel. I don’t care, but you’d get flak.”

Mu Chenxing: “…”

He switched tones fast. “Only the best for our esteemed Admiral. This one’s perfect.”

Pei Yao laughed, pinching his nose. “Little money-grubber.”

Mu Chenxing huffed, checked the time, and said, “Dad should be almost here. He’s been transferring for days—probably exhausted. Don’t show up and rile him yet. Head to the hotel first.”

Pei Yao agreed readily. “No problem, whatever baby wants~ But if you’re kicking me out, gimme a little treat first~~”

He pursed his lips and leaned in. “Kiss.”

Mu Chenxing: “…”

How did this shameless guy become an Admiral?

Still, with few chances for alone time in the coming days, he didn’t play coy. He rose on tiptoe, capturing those puckered lips.

Pei Yao chuckled lowly, dropping the act. He took control, arms wrapping around him as he started devouring.

They’d shared a bed for over half a month, but Mu Chenxing’s training kept things tame. Pei Yao wasn’t one for much teasing either—just light kisses on lips or cheeks, very proper.

But these past couple days, no training for Mu Chenxing, new place sorted… They were having trouble holding back.

Pei Yao restrained himself, save for the firm hand on his nape and the large palm rubbing up and down his lower back—no further touches.

Mu Chenxing was young, after all. Pei Yao’s sucking in his mouth heated him up all over. His fingers couldn’t resist slipping under the man’s shirt—

Beep beep, click—

Mu Chenxing and Pei Yao froze.

The young man dragging a suitcase, backpack slung over his shoulder, scarf and hat bundled tight, stood rigid at the door—only his eyes visible.

Mu Chenxing opened his eyes, met Pei Yao’s bottomless dark gaze, and bit him.

Pei Yao: “…”

He released his mouth and hands.

Mu Chenxing withdrew his claws from under the shirt, wiped the saliva from his lips, and turned calmly. “Dad, long time no see.”

Luo Chen, eyes icy through the narrow slit, activated his Holo-Screen. “Hello, is this District 27 security—”

“!!” Mu Chenxing lunged. “Dad! I can explain!!”

Mu Chenxing met with an ambush and died while carrying out a mission. When he woke, a bizarre heat and dizziness overwhelmed his body. He spotted the shady figures around him and calmly grabbed a wine bottle. Clang! He smashed it and jabbed the jagged edge into his thigh before charging forward— By the time he pieced together what had happened, he realized he'd transmigrated into some bizarre world. The interstellar expanse stretched vast, technology advanced beyond measure, but humanity's classifications were downright strange. His kind was called Omega—weak as dodder vine, their lives seemingly revolving around nothing but marriage, popping out kids, going into heat, and hooking up with guys. Fuck! Pei Yao was notorious for despising Omegas—until he witnessed that spectacular showdown at the mouth of the alley. He caught the lingering scent of wine in the air and suddenly thought, Omegas aren't so bad after all. He couldn't stop thinking about that Omega from that night. When he attended his alma mater's celebration, he ran into that very same pretty Omega with explosive power from the alley. He immediately blocked his path and smiled. "Little beauty, looks like we're pretty fated. Wanna bond with me?" What came back at him was a vicious groin kick from the little Omega. Pei Yao: *Hiss... that's hot. At the University Arena Competition between interstellar universities, a pretty Omega burst onto the scene out of nowhere. He crushed a horde of Alphas and stormed into the finals. Online, the insults, mockery, and disgust began to brew into a storm of negativity. But then the Omega-phobic Admiral—judged doomed to a life of lonely widowhood—suddenly opened a Starbo account. His first post was just a single photo: A bruised-faced Omega kicking an Alpha opponent flying. @Pei Yao: *My wife—handsome, right? The entire net: *...* Mu Chenxing: *...*
