Chapter 123: Confession
The day of the college entrance examination was so hot it could melt a person.
Fei Nuo sat in the examination hall, holding his pen. Small beads of sweat appeared on his nose, and his back was tense as he stared at the question in front of him without blinking.
With the ringing of the bell, Fei Nuo threw the pen in his hand and leaned back in his chair with a sigh.
All the students who had finished the exam had smiles of relief on their faces, but Fei Nuo, who was being carried out by the crowd, still felt a heaviness in his heart.
In the jostling crowd, which smelled of sweat, Fei Nuo stood on his tiptoes and looked forward. Not surprisingly, he saw Gu Ze, who stood out from the crowd.
Gu Ze, who had left the examination hall a step earlier, was holding a large cardboard box filled with popsicles and ice water. A group of students, so thirsty their throats were smoking, gathered around his stall, almost like stars surrounding the moon.
Seeing Gu Ze, who hadn’t forgotten to do business even during the college entrance examination, Fei Nuo couldn’t help but let out a light “hmph,” thinking to himself, Money-grubber!
He’s been running around since he was a child, buying and selling. What’s the use of holding a pile of bills?
In the end, didn’t it all turn into the little cakes on Fei Nuo’s dining table?
Fei Nuo still remembered the time when he had gone out to sell stationery with Gu Ze in primary school. He had mistakenly sold a fountain pen worth one or two hundred yuan for ten yuan and had even held up the money to Gu Ze with a happy look on his little face.
When he finally learned the truth, he had cried so hard his little shoulders were shaking, and he had even had Gu Ze buy him some gummy bears to comfort him.
With a light “tsk,” Fei Nuo felt that he had too many embarrassing black histories from his childhood!
I can’t even think about it!
Just as he was lost in thought, Gu Ze’s searching gaze also fell on Fei Nuo. His eyes lit up for a moment, and then he quickly looked away, pursing his lips as he walked towards him with a cream popsicle.
Just as Fei Nuo squeezed out of the school gate, his wrist was grabbed by Gu Ze, who pulled him to a corner of the wall by the flower bed.
“What are you doing?”
Fei Nuo had always been a person who couldn’t hold onto things in his mind. He would often still be sad, only to be coaxed away by something delicious. His little temper came and went quickly.
But this time, he had been angry with Gu Ze for a full week.
In their eighteen years of life, this was almost an astounding event.
Even Lei Yan had shaken his head in shock these past two days, saying that the sun must have risen from the west.
With his arms crossed and his back against the wall, Fei Nuo wrinkled his nose and looked at Gu Ze in front of him with a huff.
Gu Ze stuffed the cream pudding he liked into his hand. The cool fingertips touched Fei Nuo’s soft palm, and as if he had been electrocuted, he immediately retracted his hand.
“You eat it quickly. It’s too hot. Uncle Fei is waiting for you at the intersection. You go back in the car first.”
Fei Nuo, who had originally wanted to end the cold war upon seeing him bring him food, suddenly saw Gu Ze’s action of turning his back and his round eyes widened in an instant.
Alright, so now he’s disgusted with me!
The anger stuck in his chest made Fei Nuo’s chest ache a little. He couldn’t spit it out or swallow it, so he could only turn his head with a huff and run through the crowd.
Fei Zhiyan’s car was an extended version and couldn’t be parked at the school gate, so he could only stand at a slightly further intersection and wait for Fei Nuo to come out.
Seeing a lively figure running over, Fei Zhiyan took out a towel with a little yellow duck printed on it and handed it to Fei Nuo to wipe his sweat.
After wiping his face, Fei Nuo wrung the little yellow duck on the towel with his fingers and sighed heavily.
“What’s wrong? You have worries at such a young age?”
Fei Jing was also wearing sunglasses in the car, his fair face as if it had been illuminated by a layer of light. He reached out his finger and flicked Fei Nuo on the head.
“Second Brother!” Fei Nuo pouted and looked at him with a light “hmph.”
“Look at you, your pouting lips could hang an oil pot.”
Fei Jing had teased Fei Nuo a lot since he was a child. Seeing his angry look, his mood became extremely cheerful.
Fei Nuo pointed at him and turned to Fei Zhiyan. “Papa, brother is wearing sunglasses! He definitely came back without removing his makeup!”
No matter how long it had been, Fei Zhiyan still didn’t like Fei Jing being in the entertainment industry and had even explicitly forbidden him from wearing makeup in front of his family, lest he teach the children bad habits.
And so, the moment Fei Nuo’s words came out, Fei Zhiyan glanced at Fei Jing with cold eyes.
Fei Jing felt a sudden chill. He ran a hand through his golden hair and, with a very perceptive look, opened the car door and said, “I still have an event,” and slipped away with a swoosh.
A few girls’ gasps came from outside the car. “Fei Jing!!”
“Ahhh, my lucky day! I met Fei Jing after my college entrance examination!”
Closing the car window and isolating the sound, Fei Nuo returned home with a heavy heart.
The day after the exam, Lei Yan gathered a few of his regular friends and said he wanted to have a good time.
Fei Zhiyan had gone on a business trip, and Fei Nuo was very bored at home by himself, so he simply had the driver take him there.
But the moment he got there, he regretted it.
The colorful lights in the private room were dazzling, and the dark and bright atmosphere made Fei Nuo feel very uncomfortable.
And most importantly, Gu Ze was also there!
Fei Nuo sat on the sofa furthest from Gu Ze with a bit of annoyance, watching a group of people sing like wailing ghosts, the weight in his heart so heavy he could barely breathe.
Lei Yan knew that his two good friends were having a tiff. He held a glass of wine and bumped Gu Ze’s arm, saying in his ear, “You and Fei Nuo, why don’t you just talk it out? You’ve grown up together. Is it worth being angry for so long?”
Gu Ze’s gaze had not moved away from Fei Nuo since he had come in.
Hearing Lei Yan’s words, he just shook his head, thinking to himself that it was precisely because they had grown up together that he didn’t dare to gamble.
What if…
I really can’t control myself, and our future can only be that of strangers?
Gu Ze clenched his wine glass, the veins on the back of his hand popping out.
In the chaotic and dark private room, he looked at Fei Nuo, his eyes filled with a scorching passion.
Lei Yan scratched the back of his head and, seeing Gu Ze sitting on the sofa motionless, couldn’t help but feel a little anxious. “Go on. Fei Nuo has a big heart and doesn’t hold grudges. It’s just a matter of a glass of wine!”
Lei Yan was even more anxious than the two main characters. He simply grabbed Gu Ze’s arm and pulled him in front of Fei Nuo.
Fei Nuo was at this time looking at the fruit platter, trying to decide what to order.
Grapes were not in season recently, but he kind of wanted to eat them. His fingertips were hovering over the menu, hesitating, when he found that his vision had suddenly gone dark, and he couldn’t see anything at all.
“What are you doing?”
Fei Nuo looked up, and his eyes instantly met Gu Ze’s.
Frowning, Fei Nuo crossed his arms and leaned back on the sofa.
He was at a standoff with Gu Ze. If the other didn’t speak, he wouldn’t speak either!
Seeing Gu Ze’s still-silent appearance, Lei Yan pinched him hard.
“Fei Nuo, we all grew up together. You also know Gu Ze’s temper, he’s sullen and stinky. But we’re all friends, we should tolerate each other. There’s nothing we can’t get over, right?”
Having made his point, Lei Yan glanced at Gu Ze, then turned and left, leaving the space for the two of them to make up.
Seeing this, Gu Ze also sighed and sat down next to Fei Nuo.
It was hot in the summer. Even with the air conditioner on in the private room, with so many people gathered together, the air conditioner was a little ineffective.
Although there was still a fist’s distance between them, Gu Ze could still feel the slight heat radiating from Fei Nuo’s body.
Like a fire starter, Gu Ze felt that the emotions he had suppressed for so long were still ignited at this moment, and his breathing couldn’t help but quicken a little.
“Gu Ze, what’s been wrong with you recently?”
Fei Nuo was very annoyed by this matter and didn’t want to continue this cold war. He turned his head to look at him and asked decisively.
Perhaps because it was too dark around, and a group of people were celebrating their high school graduation, Gu Ze, in this atmosphere, was also influenced a little. He looked at Fei Nuo with dark eyes and shook his head lightly. “It’s just something on my mind.”
Fei Nuo wrinkled his nose, still a little unhappy in his heart. He reached out and took the iced red tea on the table and drank it all in one go.
Gu Ze stared at his rolling Adam’s apple, his heart itching. He reached out and pressed his own neck.
“Is there something you can’t tell me? Are we not friends anymore?”
Fei Nuo still didn’t understand. What could make Gu Ze ignore their many years of friendship and give him the cold shoulder for so long?
Gu Ze, on the other hand, took his wine glass and, imitating Fei Nuo’s appearance just now, drank all the wine in the glass.
His stomach burned, which suppressed the desire in his heart a little.
A hint of red appeared on his earlobes. With this bit of alcohol, his eyes were fixed on Fei Nuo. “But I don’t want to be friends with you.”
Fei Nuo was startled by Gu Ze’s gaze, which was like a beast staring at its prey. Then, hearing what he said, as if he had a premonition, his heart inexplicably began to feel guilty.
“What… do you mean?”
Gu Ze’s gaze swept over the people around him. Finding that everyone was immersed in their own world, he finally lowered his eyes, leaned forward, pressed down on Fei Nuo’s retreating waist, and bit the corner of his lips.
“This is what I mean.”
