After much deliberation, Le Qingping reluctantly gathered some fine items and visited Xie Linlang.
Xie Linlang adjusted pill formulas in his quiet chamber, planning to tweak the simplest ones step by step into versions suited for Demonic Cultivators. After all, Li Pinghu awaited his demonic substitute for the Immortal Feather Pill formula.
“Senior Sister Le?”
Xie Linlang was slightly surprised to see Le Qingping but quickly guessed her purpose.
He smiled. “Senior Brother Zheng only notified me yesterday that Martial Uncle Fang‘s side on Flowing Firefly Island was off-limits for now.”
Le Qingping chuckled awkwardly. She entered Xie Linlang’s quiet chamber and quickly scanned the room, noting its spotless emptiness—like no one lived there.
“Yes, before joining the sect, my senior brother and I agreed to have you assist on my master’s side. Now that Martial Uncle Fang met with mishap, come with me to Senior Brother Zheng and transfer directly to my side.”
As she spoke, Le Qingping produced a Storage Bag. She hemmed and hawed: “Actually, during the Purple Radiance Mountain Secret Realm, I coincidentally met a cultivator skilled in commanding Demon Beasts. I teamed up with him to revisit the abandoned Nine Spirits Sect grounds…”
Xie Linlang looked at Le Qingping in mild astonishment. Heavens, had Le Qingping gone back for another round of looting?
The woman in the pink dress seemed embarrassed, lowering her head slightly as her fine bangs fell, obscuring her view.
“With that cultivator, I accessed the three hidden mustard seed spaces you found and retrieved the items inside.”
Le Qingping nudged the Storage Bag forward. “This is your share.”
Xie Linlang gave Le Qingping a meaningful look.
So that was it. Fang Cui‘s death must have frightened the girl into promptly delivering Xie Linlang’s portion.
Xie Linlang accepted the conciliatory gift and said coolly, “I got along splendidly with Senior Brother Fang. He even gifted me his tamed Red-beaked Sparrows.”
With that, he beckoned, summoning one Red-beaked Sparrow.
The Red-beaked Sparrow naturally perched on Xie Linlang’s shoulder.
Though still grieving, the Sparrow‘s nature was pure. After two days of sorrow, its focus had shifted from Fang Fang to Xie Xie, and what to eat today.
Le Qingping stared in shock as the Red-beaked Sparrow nuzzled Xie Linlang’s cheek, a deep surge of admiration welling up once more.
Heavens, this big shot was incredible—not only did he dispatch Martial Uncle Fang in a day, but he tamed and won the loyalty of Martial Uncle Fang‘s Demon Beasts? How did he do it?
Le Qingping feigned sorrow: “That’s truly a pity. You and Martial Uncle Fang shared a bond, yet he fell—such a great regret in life.”
She pushed the Storage Bag closer. “Perhaps you’ll find something here you need to lift your spirits.”
Xie Linlang smiled faintly and accepted the Storage Bag. “I’ll borrow your auspicious words.”
Seeing Xie Linlang take the items, Le Qingping breathed a sigh of relief inwardly.
Le Qingping and Xie Linlang went together to the sect’s mission assignment office.
Senior Brother Zheng seemed irritable but didn’t deliberately make trouble this time. Per Le Qingping’s request, he assigned Xie Linlang to the Rune House under her.
Xie Linlang seized the chance to inquire about the Pill Room‘s location. He subtly expressed his desire to refine materials into pills and asked if Le Qingping had a recommended pill master.
Le Qingping recommended Hong Kui but added, “I hear Uncle Master Lin has returned. He might gather disciples to teach pill formulas. Not sure if he’s free—I’ll ask for you.”
Xie Linlang only needed a suitable pretext to approach Shen He, so he said, “Thank you for the trouble, Senior Sister Le.”
Contrary to Le Qingping’s expectations, Hong Kui quickly replied via transmission that he was available. Thus, she brought Xie Linlang straight to the Pill Room.
The Pill Room remained as before. Under Le Qingping’s introduction, Xie Linlang met Hong Kui. Upon hearing Xie Linlang wished to refine basic pills, Hong Kui recommended Shen He.
Thus, Xie Linlang finally had ample reason to seek out Shen He.
Shen He was delighted too. Suppressing his excitement, he bid farewell to Hong Kui and Le Qingping before leading Xie Linlang back to his own Alchemy Chamber.
After they left, Hong Kui’s expression darkened. He said to Le Qingping, “Something major happened in the sect last night.”
Le Qingping blinked in confusion. “Wasn’t it just Martial Uncle Fang getting drained into a husk by Demon Butterfly in an accident?”
Hong Kui slowly shook his head. “Not quite. My master urgently messaged me—the sect’s Merit Jade Tablet cleared the accounts of seven cultivators in total.”
Le Qingping jolted in alarm. “Seven dead in one night?”
She suddenly recalled Martial Uncle Fang‘s master and the other two Nascent Soul Cultivators, lowering her voice involuntarily. “Were they… from the former palace lord’s lineage?”
Hong Kui fell silent for a long moment before nodding. “Correct.”
At that very moment, deep within Silent Night Palace, Lin Yu sat cross-legged beside the Crimson-red Tree Branch Throne.
He gazed with a headache at the Kill Matt Baby Bird on the soft cushion, muttering, “Ancestor, please wake up soon. Does Demon Butterfly Senior‘s dream hold such power? The Tribulation Transcendence Realm elders and seniors all awoke—why are you still sleeping?”
If it kept sleeping, he couldn’t hold out much longer!
As Lin Yu fretted in circles, the Kill Matt Bird‘s eyelids twitched and finally opened.
Lin Yu rejoiced. “You’re finally awake!!”
The Kill Matt Bird ignored Lin Yu, lingering deeply in the prior dream, reluctant to face reality.
In the dream, he was still that free-spirited sword cultivator, soaring alongside his beloved—carefree and blissful.
“Do you remember what happened last night?”
“I do. Last night, my love came to find me.”
Lin Yu: “…”
