Chapter 28 Part 1

Xia Xifeng tilted his head back, looking at the Sanctuary’s dome.

The structure of the Sanctuary’s dome was similar to that of the church where he had awoken—both were stained-glass domes.

With a loud crack, the stained-glass dome shattered, but the broken glass didn’t fall.

The shattered dome turned to powder and drifted skyward.

Several more cracking sounds echoed as the Sanctuary shattered from top to bottom, turning to powder.

All the walls and roof of the Sanctuary vanished.

A full moon hung in mid-air.

It seemed to be descending towards the earth, growing larger and larger until it occupied half the sky.

A silhouette appeared in the center of the full moon, as if a deity were gazing down upon the mortal world.

Behind Xia Xifeng, a harrowing shriek erupted.

Turning, he saw Qin Lang had finished harvesting the last drop of Nightingale’s HP.

When the Blood Moon descended, Nightingale ceased all movement, raising her hands high in a posture of prayer.

Dwarf Jim dropped his axe, clutching his head with both hands as he crouched on the ground, groaning in pain.

And Qin Lang—he seized this output window where the BOSS wouldn’t move, finally unleashing all his reserved burst damage skills in a fluid combo.

A full chain of skills, every hit a critical strike. The BOSS fell at the player’s feet.

Qin Lang sheathed his twin swords and drank a potion.

Although her HP was depleted, Nightingale was not dead.

She lay on the ground, continuously murmuring words meant to entice Qin Lang.

But unfortunately, Qin Lang habitually ignored all story dialogue when fighting monsters.

Nightingale spoke many things, but they all slid right past Qin Lang’s ears without a single word entering his mind.

Without this ability to filter out dialogue, how could Qin Lang have cleared a single monster hundreds or even thousands of times without being driven insane by the repetitive story lines?

It was still a little noisy, though.

Reality wasn’t like the game where you could mute the sound. Qin Lang could only treat the story dialogue as white noise to relax his mind.

As Qin Lang drank his potion, the blood-red light grew even brighter, coating the entire dreamscape with a red filter.

Dwarf Jim’s eyes were vacant, like a stone statue.

Xia Xifeng glanced at Dwarf Jim’s status, which prominently displayed “Terrified.”

Ordinary people, when facing a God, would be so overwhelmed by the divine pressure they’d lose their senses, appearing demented.

But he and Qin Lang felt nothing at all.

Discovering that its pressure had no effect on these two mortals, Blood Moon increased the power output.

The pressure became so intense even Nightingale couldn’t endure it. She finally stopped making noise.

Qin Lang flipped her over and found her stomach had deflated. Only then did he leave the Nightingale—who was either dead or unconscious—and walk to Xia Xifeng’s side.

Qin Lang: “Any discomfort?”

Xia Xifeng: “None. You?”

Qin Lang: “None.”

The two of them looked up at the moon together.

After staring for a while, Xia Xifeng complained, “How much longer until It comes down? My neck is sore.”

Qin Lang thought for a moment, then took out two deck chairs. “Let’s sit and wait.”

Xia Xifeng stretched his neck and also brought out a small low table, placing it between the chairs.

He set drinks and snacks on the small table. Together with Qin Lang, he lay back in the deck chair, looking up at the Blood Moon, as if admiring the moonlit scenery.

While lying down, Xia Xifeng didn’t forget to top off Jim’s HP and Mana, who was still crouching.

Hopefully, Jim’s legs wouldn’t go numb from crouching.

Even if his legs went numb in the dream, there would be no lasting effects in reality, right?

Just as Xia Xifeng thought this, he suddenly remembered that Jim was already dead and couldn’t help but sigh.

Xia Xifeng: “Even redder.”

Qin Lang: “Mm.”

The two waited, bored out of their minds.

No helping it. The Blood Moon hung high in the sky. If It wouldn’t come down, Xia Xifeng and Qin Lang couldn’t do anything about It.

Xia Xifeng put his hand to his mouth and shouted loudly, “Stop shining that red light! It’s really useless! Hurry up and come down here, fight us!”

Qin Lang listened to Xia Xifeng hurling trash talk at the Blood Moon, raising his drink for a sip.

This Outer God was truly losing face.

Qin Lang didn’t stop Xia Xifeng’s arrogance.

If the System’s backing was the Heavenly Father, and the world hadn’t been destroyed yet, the Heavenly Father saying they’d be fine meant they definitely would be.

Besides, before the Sun fell, the Outer Gods operated in the shadows, not daring to appear openly.

After all, they were “Outer” Gods. On someone else’s turf, they had to keep a low profile, only able to secretly cause trouble.

Silver Moon was still there, and the Twin Suns still shone upon the land. Even within a dream, Blood Moon wouldn’t dare project too much power, lest It be discovered.

But we’ve discovered It already, so the Twin Suns must have discovered It too, right? Qin Lang pondered, then gave up thinking.

He’d rest his brain for now. When Blood Moon couldn’t hold back any longer and projected a divine body down to test them, then he’d use his brain for the fight.

The Blood Moon’s light grew denser and denser, so thick it seemed as if a vat of blood had been poured onto the ground, soaking the entire dream in gore.

A faint white light first appeared around Xia Xifeng and Qin Lang, and then a faint blue light enveloped the outside of the white light.

The blue light connected first, and then the white light expanded, enveloping the blue light within.

Xia Xifeng and Qin Lang were covered by two layers of shields, and the colors within the shields returned to normal.

Afterwards, the two heard a cacophony of whispers.

Xia Xifeng said, “So this is the God’s indescribable whisper… Ah, I can understand it!”

Xia Xifeng’s expression turned strange.

Outer Gods were incompatible with the Dream World, so everything about Them was “indescribable” and “incomprehensible.”

It was only after the Doomsday Era began, when the Dream World’s rules were twisted and the Outer Gods gained physical forms within the Dream World, that people of this world could communicate directly with Them.

Yet he could clearly hear that the Blood Moon was cursing very filthily.

The Apocalypse hadn’t even descended yet!

Qin Lang got down from the deck chair and prepared for battle. “Maybe the System’s translation function is just too powerful.”

Xia Xifeng nodded. “Right. The Heavenly Father is the Creator God. Strictly speaking, He doesn’t belong to this world; this world belongs to Him. So it makes sense He can understand foreign languages and provide automatic translation.”

The two didn’t know the true reason, so they just guessed randomly. It didn’t matter anyway.

They put away the chairs, table, and drinks, and applied their buffs.

Xia Xifeng yelled at the sky again, “Stop cursing! Are you coming down or not?! If not, we’re leaving!”

Although he didn’t know how to actively log out of the dungeon, he could at least put on a tough front first.

The Blood Moon’s cursing halted abruptly.

[What exactly are you? How can you understand Our words?]

Xia Xifeng: “We’re your daddy!”

As he said this, Xia Xifeng ducked behind Qin Lang.

Qin Lang’s eyebrow twitched.

Spewing the harshest words while performing the most cowardly actions. Xia Xifeng, don’t you feel any shame?

Xia Xifeng didn’t feel any shame.

When he taunted the Blood Moon again, the Blood Moon finally could endure no longer and projected a divine body down to teach these insolent mortals a lesson.

In Its view, if It wished to probe the secrets of these two unusual mortals, It could first try to “capture” them.

The shadow within the Blood Moon descended. A God with a body like tree branches and a face too beautiful to describe, Its eyes half-closed, extended a hand towards Qin Lang and Xia Xifeng.

Then, Its hand was struck by Qin Lang’s blade.

Blood Moon: “…???”

It was in the middle of casting a mental charm. Why were these mortals completely unaffected?!

At this moment, mortals should be recalling their most beautiful and most painful memories, tormented by them, unable to move!

But Qin Lang was thinking of nothing; his mind was entirely filled with combat.

After waiting so long, the final BOSS had finally descended and revealed Its health bar. Qin Lang had nearly fallen asleep waiting.

Xia Xifeng crept stealthily backward, hiding behind the Sanctuary’s tables and chairs, which hadn’t vanished. He even dragged the crouching Jim with him.

Jim’s name was still green; he was still in the party. Xia Xifeng trusted the System’s hint. Jim in the dream definitely posed no danger.

To prevent the Blood Moon from raising the already-dead corpses for reuse, seeing that the Blood Moon had no attention to spare for him for the moment, Xia Xifeng dragged the corpses to the cliff’s edge and threw them all down.

There were many corpses, and his efficiency in clearing them was low.

Xia Xifeng muttered, “Ah, when we were lying down watching the moon earlier, I should’ve thrown the corpses down with Qin Lang then. Why am I only thinking of it now?”

He hadn’t expected these mortals to be completely immune to Its bewitchment. The Blood Moon changed Its plan, deciding to kill the mortals within the dream so they couldn’t escape and report to the Dream World’s Gods.

Mortals immune to Its charm must have the protection of a Dream World God behind them.

Blood Moon felt a twinge of regret.

Its previous plans had gone too smoothly. The “Divine Heir” was about to descend, and It would soon be able to directly influence the Dream World.

To think, at the final juncture, Its scheme would be thwarted by mortals.

They had already usurped a portion of this world’s Authority. Any being of this world, even the Creator God’s favored, wouldn’t be completely immune to Its influence.

What exactly were these two mortals?

Blood Moon set aside Its contempt for mortals.

The blood-red color within the dream returned to Its projected divine body, and the projection’s power gradually intensified.

Its usable power was limited. To focus everything on killing Qin Lang, It could no longer influence the entire dream.

When the dream environment returned to normal colors, the shields around Xia Xifeng also vanished.

“I…” Dwarf Jim opened his eyes, plopping down onto the ground.

He looked around in confusion and found Xia Xifeng busily hauling corpses and throwing them off the cliff.

“Feng? What are you doing?” Dwarf Jim asked.

Xia Xifeng ran to Dwarf Jim’s side and handed him a calming potion. “Awake? Feeling unwell anywhere?”

Dwarf Jim drank the potion and wiped his mouth. “Everywhere feels terrible.”

He paused, then gave a bitter smile. “So I’m already dead.”

Xia Xifeng froze.

Dwarf Jim said calmly, “Just now I had a very long dream. I dreamed I was dead, that everyone in our entire caravan was dead.”

Xia Xifeng was silent for a moment, then said, “No, your daughter isn’t dead. You protected her. Do you remember her now?”

Dwarf Jim gripped the potion bottle tightly.

He stood up, not answering Xia Xifeng’s question, but instead asked, “Tell me, what should I do to truly die?”

Xia Xifeng said, “I don’t know. But we can first help Qin Lang defeat that thing.”

He didn’t know if he could say the word “Outer God” directly to Dwarf Jim.

Some NPCs would go mad the moment they heard “Outer God.”

Referring to It as “that thing” should be okay, right?

When Xia Xifeng said “that thing,” the Blood Moon’s projected divine body opened Its eyes and glared furiously at the blasphemer… the once-again blasphemer, Xia Xifeng.

Qin Lang seized the moment It turned Its head, slashing at Its neck and severing half of it.

It was forced to reattach Its neck and turn Its head back, no longer daring to be distracted.

Blood Moon was deeply puzzled. Even if It couldn’t project much power, Its abilities were mysterious and unfathomable. Why could this mortal, whose overall strength wasn’t high, always evade Its killing blows, actually fighting It to a standstill?

Blood Moon became tempted to recruit him, promising Qin Lang many benefits if he would become Its divine spokesperson.

Qin Lang… Qin Lang didn’t listen.

He filtered out the story dialogue again.

Xia Xifeng, however, did listen, and memorized it to share with Mr. Amuruo and Mr. Suer later.

Status: Completed Native Language: Chinese

Xia Xifeng and Qin Lang are neighbors, childhood friends who grew up together, and classmates—nemeses who have been bickering since they learned to crawl.

They transmigrate together into the Western fantasy game they just started playing. Wearing nothing but tattered shorts, the two shiver in the cold wind.

After transmigrating, both are stuck with incomplete game panels.

Xia Xifeng can only allocate points to life skills. In this dangerous world, he is nothing but a helpless little lamb.

Qin Lang's panel has combat skills that rely entirely on pay-to-win point allocation, but the pay-to-win only recognizes player currency.

The two lock eyes. Co... cooperate? They avert their gazes in disgust. ( ̄^ ̄)

Twin suns blaze, evil dragons beat their wings; elves leap among the forests, dwarves hollow out mine after mine; humans chant hymns praising the gods, as shadows flow through subterranean rivers of flame...

Pinching their noses and cooperating, the two hunt and gather, clear wasteland, plant crops and raise livestock, build workshops, become lords... They dare not slack off for a single day, much less talk about splitting up to go solo.

Because they have discovered—they transmigrated into the time before the game's launch storyline begins.

Five years later, the game's story officially begins—the world enters the Doomsday Era.

A traditional transmigration-into-Western-fantasy-game story. The little couple is locked together, displaying their prowess from beginning to end. A self-indulgent work of cutting off one's own thigh meat for food when cold and unable to find sustenance.
