Chapter 38 Part 2

He was dying of curiosity about that Master—not just that, but he hated being sidelined whenever the topic came up by his two childhood friends.

Li Yunkai had been very curious about Chu Yi at first, but the investigation materials left him speechless. What was this? Chu Yi was clearly just an ordinary guy, bullied miserably by his Eldest Uncle’s family. Was someone like that really a Master?

“Don’t spout crap!” Mu Jiajun irritably snatched the materials back. “I only told you to check on Chu Dazhi’s family recently. Why’d you dig up all this?”

Li Yunkai looked innocent. “Wasn’t I just trying to learn about the Master?”

Mu Jiajun glared, pocketed the extra materials, and left only what Chu Yi had requested. Finished, he called over a server for a coffee.

“I’ll have tea, thanks.” Li Yunkai winked smoothly at the waitress.

Mu Jiajun eyed him with disgust. “Last time’s lesson not enough?”

“Uh…” Li Yunkai paused, coughed into his fist. “Habit, you know? I’m working on it.”

Truth was, he wasn’t that heartless. After discharge, he had gone straight to Wei Xiaoxiao’s parents and sincerely apologized. Though awkward, they apologized too, and they shook hands. Later, chatting about Wei Xiaoxiao, the mood even turned pleasant… He had resolved to look after the old couple more from now on, as atonement.

Soon the tea arrived. Li Yunkai took a sip, but his gaze was drawn to a young handsome guy who just entered.

He wore a white hoodie, a crossbody bag, long legs in black pants—strikingly eye-catching. The guy glanced around, zeroed in on their table precisely, and strode over.

Li Yunkai inwardly rolled his eyes hard. Mu Jiajun had the nerve to lecture him? The side piece had tracked him here!

“Yi Ge!” Mu Jiajun stood and called out.

“Pfft—” Li Yunkai spat.

“What the hell…” Mu Jiajun scooted away in disgust. Luckily, he had just shifted next to Li Yunkai to make room for Yi Ge, or he’d have been sprayed head to toe!

“Ahem, ahem, he’s the Master you keep talking about?” Li Yunkai coughed messily while sizing up Chu Yi. He inwardly ranted about his dad’s staff being unprofessional—the photo didn’t match this handsome guy at all!

Chu Yi raised a brow. “From the look of you, seems you’ve recovered well?”

Li Yunkai nodded awkwardly. “Yeah, Mom and Dad said it was thanks to the Master. Haven’t thanked you in person yet.”

He quickly stood, playing the part fully.

Though the Master’s image didn’t match his expectations, he wasn’t an idiot. With Mu Jiajun and Ouyang Yuyuan hyping him up, and his parents drilling it in, only a fool would question him to his face.

Chu Yi took the materials and glanced through. The Chu Family had indeed seen a lot lately. After Eldest Uncle Chu’s legs were broken, Chu Xiangyong swiftly divorced his Little Wife and demanded a hefty compensation from Eldest Uncle Chu for raising their son.

The woman was forced out with nothing. After the divorce, she dragged the kid to Eldest Uncle Chu’s house and shamelessly stayed.

Wang Guifang was naturally furious, fighting and arguing with her daily, so Eldest Uncle Chu endured hellish days while recovering. Finally, the woman couldn’t take it, stole Eldest Uncle Chu’s money, dumped the kid, and ran off alone.

As mentioned before, Eldest Uncle Chu was that bigoted rural macho type—the family money was basically under his thumb.

Hospital bills and meds had already drained them, he couldn’t earn, and Chu Yi the free labor had quit. Luckily, Grandpa Chu and Grandma Chu had some savings, or the whole family would’ve been begging.

But they had some good news too: Chu Dazhi had hooked up with another rich heiress and was in the ambiguous phase.

Chu Yi got the picture—this must be the female classmate Liu Shengqing mentioned. But she wasn’t some goody-two-shoes like Yao Ke; she played the field hard. He wondered how long Chu Dazhi could last…

After reviewing the materials, Chu Yi didn’t linger. He gave Mu Jiajun and Li Yunkai each a Protective Talisman as thanks. Knowing they were meeting Ouyang Yuyuan that night, he entrusted one for him too, then left in a hurry.

Li Yunkai eyed the talisman dubiously. “This thing really work?”

“Give it here if you don’t want it.” Mu Jiajun reached, but Li Yunkai snatched it back quick.

“What’s the good stuff?” Then someone popped up behind Li Yunkai, snatching the talisman in one grab.

“Yuanzi? Didn’t you say evening?” Mu Jiajun said delightedly, then regretfully added that Chu Yi had just left.

Ouyang Yuyuan rushed to the door for a look but saw nothing. Still, getting a Body-Protecting Talisman handmade by Yi Ge was consolation enough.

Li Yunkai pursed his lips. “It’s not like you don’t have one. Had to steal mine? Gimme his—I don’t have one yet.”

Mu Jiajun smirked. “Weren’t you skeptical? Now you say you don’t have one?”

Li Yunkai snatched it back and glared. “I just don’t wanna be left out by you two!”

That evening, after the trio gathered, Ouyang Yuyuan—worn out from just landing—booked a room at the adjacent five-star hotel.

Card key in hand, dragging his suitcase through the lobby, a deranged man suddenly lunged out and knocked him flat.

“What the—!” Ouyang Yuyuan yelped in pain.

“Eldest Young Master, Eldest Young Master, are you alright?”

Another group emerged, surrounding the man, while hotel staff rushed to check on him. Ouyang Yuyuan paid it no mind, brushed it off, and dragged his luggage away.

He left dashingly, unaware that the man’s eyes cleared for an instant as he watched, before clouding over again.
