Chapter 43: Hug
“Little Mute?”
Deng Xi was stunned for a moment, then rubbed his eyes, suspecting that he might be hallucinating because he wanted to see him so much.
It wasn’t until the low-pressure command sounded by his ear again, “Raise your comm and turn around.”
Deng Xi dazedly did as he was told.
Si Jisheng’s blue screen showed a boundless sea. After turning around, he saw the familiar manor of District A on the shore. He estimated the distance between the two sides and said in a cold voice, “Hold the comm and wait for me to come over.”
The silver Jiaoren dived into the sea and passed through the reef cluster channel in the abyss that led to the sea. From the surface of the sea, the black shadow was like a fierce and swift beast. In just a few minutes, the sea area he had swum through was marked by a white, turbulent line formed by the waves from his tail fin.
Deng Xi belatedly realized that the little mute seemed to be a little angry.
He felt as if he had done something wrong and waited uneasily for the silver-tail to come over.
The silver Jiaoren broke through the water, his soaked silver hair draped behind him. Only a few strands of silver hair, dripping with seawater, remained on both sides. He swam to the reef without a word and met the clueless blue-tail’s gaze.
The sea breeze blew through the gap between the two.
Si Jisheng asked in a deep voice, “Why did you sneak out by yourself?”
Deng Xi pursed his lips. “I didn’t sneak out.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
Deng Xi didn’t know how to answer and lowered his head.
Si Jisheng asked again in a cold voice, “Why didn’t you answer the communication?”
Deng Xi pressed his lips together tightly.
Si Jisheng’s chest heaved slowly once. He suppressed the surging emotions in his heart and repeated again, “Why did you hang up my communication?”
The cold questioning vaguely overlapped with the interrogation in the flying ship in the afternoon.
“Do you still want a hug?”
He was the one who had refused, that was right.
But Deng Xi’s eyelids trembled. He suddenly felt very wronged and bit his lip. “Why are you being so fierce?”
“Can’t I run out to play?”
“And Little Mute didn’t teach me. I didn’t know that was Little Mute. I thought it was broken.”
The damp seawater on his eyelids also made Deng Xi’s eyes wet. His voice was very small, and he stubbornly repeated again, “Can’t I come out to play?”
His throat seemed to be choked for a moment. Si Jisheng looked up at the blue-tail sitting on the reef. He moved closer and gently wiped Deng Xi’s wet chin with his fingertips.
He mistook the residual seawater for Deng Xi’s tear stains.
“I’m sorry.” Si Jisheng frowned and, as if letting go of his strength, said, “You can.”
“You can come out to play by yourself.”
“But next time, you have to tell me in advance. I’ll be very anxious if I can’t find you.”
“If I also suddenly disappear—”
Because he was not wearing mechanical gloves, the touch of his fingertips was cool when he wiped. It seemed to have also touched Deng Xi’s eyelids from a distance, wiping away his wronged emotions.
But Deng Xi still seemed very angry. He interrupted, “Little Mute has already disappeared once. I didn’t get fierce with Little Mute.”
The little merman pouted.
Si Jisheng’s words paused for a moment, then he continued, “Then in the future, I’ll tell you wherever I go. Deng Xi has to tell me too, okay?”
Deng Xi pursed his lips and nodded his head.
Si Jisheng asked again, “Why did you suddenly run out to see the ocean?” He paused, softened his voice, and asked, “Did I make you unhappy?”
Otherwise, the blue-tail would not normally leave without a word.
Deng Xi became quiet again. After a while, he shook his head. “No, Little Mute didn’t make me unhappy.”
“I came out to see the ocean because I couldn’t sleep.”
His silver eyes met his blue eyes. Deng Xi’s breath hitched, and he quickly looked away. Si Jisheng said quietly, “You can’t lie.”
He could tell that Deng Xi was not telling the truth.
Deng Xi gripped the reef under his hand. His rounded, pink fingertips were white from the force. He really wanted to say it, but he didn’t want to make the little mute feel awkward.
His silver eyes quietly looked at Deng Xi. Under the quietly waiting gaze, it suddenly became not difficult to speak.
“Because I want to sleep with Little Mute.”
“I don’t want to be alone.”
Deng Xi clumsily gestured with his hands. “It’s so big there.” It was as big as when he had been sleeping alone in the ocean in the past. He continued, “And it’s so dark.”
As dark as the deep sea.
“I want Little Mute to accompany me.”
Si Jisheng nodded slightly. “Then why didn’t you come and find me?”
His gills seemed to be choked for a moment, and his nose was also blocked. Deng Xi took a difficult breath before he said in a muffled voice, “Because we’re not mates.”
He seemed very troubled. “We seem to be too, too close.”
So close that Deng Xi’s world was left with only the little mute.
So close that a third person could no longer fit between the two of them.
So close that every day, when he opened and closed his eyes, it was the other person.
They were stuck together every day and couldn’t accept not seeing each other.
Si Jisheng also seemed to be about to suffocate. His lips trembled for a moment before he asked in a hoarse voice, “Then do you want to be this close?”
Deng Xi’s eyelids curved. “Yes.” He said seriously, “I want to watch the ocean, count the stars, and feel the sea breeze with Little Mute.”
Si Jisheng learned Deng Xi’s words. “Only watch the ocean, count the stars, and feel the sea breeze?”
Deng Xi shook his head. He opened his arms and looked up at the vast night sky with its few stars. “And many, many more.”
“I want to do all the things that will make us happy with Little Mute.”
“Including hugging?”
“Mmm! Including hugging.”
Si Jisheng’s voice was so low and hoarse it was almost inaudible. “Then does that include mating?”
Mating.
Deng Xi’s eyes widened in an instant. He withdrew his hands and frantically looked down at his own tail, then at the little mute’s tail, which was submerged under the water.
A second or two, in just a few breaths, the golden-haired, blue-tailed little merman was almost completely flushed pink. His breathing was so fast it almost made Deng Xi faint.
He bit his lower lip but couldn’t squeeze out a single word.
The silver Jiaoren’s words were undoubtedly asking the blue-tail if they could mate, have sex.
How could he ask such an outrageous question?
After a long time, Deng Xi finally said in a small, breathy voice, “We can’t have fish cubs.”
Si Jisheng parted his lips. “I don’t need them.”
Mist filled his blue eyes, and a pink blush, like a continuous, drunken haze, spread from his cheeks all the way to the corners of his eyes.
Deng Xi thought for a long time.
“Will this make Little Mute happy?”
The moment the words entered his ears, all the blood in his body seemed to have turned cold. Si Jisheng came back to his senses in an instant, as if he had fallen into an ice cave. He opened his lips with difficulty. After a long while, he said in embarrassment, “I’m sorry.”
Dr. Li’s words seemed to sound by his ear again.
“Your lover is still a child psychologically.”
“He will be very dependent on you.”
“This is a pathological, distorted attachment.”
Every word was like a sharp blade piercing into his mental sea, which had been unbelievably peaceful these past few days. His chest heaved heavily once. Si Jisheng suppressed the splitting pain in his mental sea with forbearance and took a deep breath. He asked in a hoarse voice, “Can you sing me a song?”
“That will be enough.”
A mental sea that would go berserk if not controlled had taught him the consequences of greed countless times. Si Jisheng closed his silver eyes slightly. His powerful emotional regulation ability suppressed all the words that were difficult to suppress in the depths of his heart.
The silver-tail flicked his tail fin and, propping himself up on the reef, silently turned over. “After we’ve watched the stars, we’ll go back and rest.”
It was as if the entangled attitude had instantly returned to a normal melting point, and the boiling emotions had calmed down again. Deng Xi let out a breath of residual heat. He patted his cheeks and nodded his head. “Alright.”
The crescent moon was high in the sky. Dark clouds had arrived at some unknown time, covering the few remaining stars. The night sky was pitch black.
The salty sea breeze swept over the surface of the sea.
Deng Xi looked at the silver-tail beside him, who had quietly closed his eyes. His tense, thin muscles seemed to be suppressing something, but his bright silver fish tail was sparkling under the moonlight.
It illuminated a small corner of the dark sea.
Deng Xi didn’t know why the little mute had suddenly asked that question and then quickly changed the subject, but he suddenly felt that the boundless sea seemed to have become smaller.
Deng Xi no longer felt that it was empty.
Deng Xi lay back on the reef, his cheek pressed against his arm, squeezing out a soft, fleshy cheek. He asked softly, “What does Little Mute want to hear?”
The silver-tail did not make a sound.
Deng Xi had no choice but to think for a while himself before he softened his voice and began to hum softly with the merman’s low hum.
The merman’s soft singing, accompanied by the night wind, blew into his ears. It carried an irresistible peaceful aura, and his restless mental sea seemed to be enveloped in the gentle ocean.
The pain seemed to have disappeared in an instant, and his mental sea seemed to be able to remain calm forever, maintaining a superficial peace, with no one saying anything, no one breaking it.
Actually, this was also very good.
This was very good.
Si Jisheng slowly opened his eyes and looked at Deng Xi, who was lying on the reef beside him, humming a song with his eyes closed. He closed his eyes and allowed himself to fall into the gentle net woven by the merman’s low hum.
There were no more stars in the sky.
But neither Deng Xi nor the silver-tail said anything about leaving. The little merman hummed and hummed, and his eyes slowly closed and opened, and his singing also became soft and mushy.
Until it stopped without warning.
He had fallen into a deep sleep.
Occasionally, he would let out a soft mumble, “Mmm… Big Whale, don’t spray water anymore.”
“Little jellyfish, don’t stick to my hand anymore.”
“Little Mute…”
The position of lying on his stomach was a bit uncomfortable. Deng Xi turned over. In his sleep, his tail seemed to have touched something cool, with a familiar cold aura, which made Deng Xi couldn’t help but drowsily move closer and closer, and finally buried his head deep inside.
The broken mumble continued: “…hug.”
Si Jisheng held the little merman in his arms. After a long while, he suddenly pressed his brow as if letting go of his strength, and resignedly opened his comm. He hesitated for a moment in the communication list, skipped the adjutant, and sent a message to Dr. Li.
Dr. Li, who had been woken up by the message in the middle of the night, glanced at her comm and vaguely read it out, “Cultivate what view of love?”
This was the interstellar age. How could anyone still need…
She realized something and looked at the name of the person who had sent the communication. After a long while, she helplessly rubbed the bunny who was sleeping beside her.
She would just treat it as preparing a copy for her child in advance.
I’m glad that he is considerate of Xixi’s mental age. Other stories have the MC being childish and dependent. But the the ML here actually wants Mc to grow and have his own independent thoughts 💓
